Truth coffee is the best coffee shop in the world. The décor is simple and industrial style. It's very clean, the staff is super friendly and the service is just great. The menu helps you choose the coffee specialities and if you can't find what you're looking for, the friendly staff will help you. The coffee is extremely tasty and you can taste every single note in the coffee. You have to come here, try it for yourself and you won't regret it.

Probably the best coffee in town and especially the best decaf I’ve ever had (the first that actually had a taste). The croissants are delicious and the Avo on toast is really good! Friendly and professional staff and simply a great place. You have to visit Truth when you’re in Cape Town. If you have time book a coffee tasting or a barista class, it’s worth it!

Understand in 2016 Truth coffee had the number 1 spot for best coffee shop in the world. Visited them today and must say, if we were not accompanied by family that knows the history, I would have given it a miss due to looks and area, at first glance. What a mistake it would have been. Great service, incredible coffee's and cake selection. Understand why it is so popular to locals and tourists.

Not your average venue I guess, but if you willing to go downtown, you will be met by a vibey atmosphere, super energetic staff at one the finest day eateries and coffee roasters Cape Town has to offer. I love the raw energy of this place, from wee hours in the morning too. I have even ventured there in the wet and cold of winter for my coffee fix. Alas, the food is always consistent, and I write this review after frequenting the place for a few years, and the food and service is on point every single time. There is a plethora of breakfast options, but I stick to the Eggs Benedict's with either bacon or salmon (both or knock outs), or I opt for one of the morning fresh pastries (croissants are heavenly) that hit the spot. Recently I was in for brunch looking over some retail space int e area, and it was a worthy time for celebration, and I asked for a mimosa with my Eggs Benedict (no pic, I was too hungry), where the server happily accepted my order. Truly amazing - every time.

Got here by recommendation and decided to spread the world. The place itself is amazing not less than the coffee. Its like a real life mad max museum with so much to see. The atmosphere is very hype, lots of going on as you sip your coffee. The menu offers a vide variety of blends and there are great desserts as well. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed when we arrived (Friday at 4PM).

Interesting vibes, nice decor, yet the coffee is so overrated- the coconut milk tastes like yogurt! It was very sour and bitter. I waited 4 years to visit this place, had high expectations- it's overrated. There are much better places for coffee in Cape Town, it's just a hype.

Great coffee, wonderful interior design. The area might be a little off for tourists (in my experience), but it's absolutely worth a visit. Have some good coffee and a snack. (Visit March, 23, 2022)

Very original coffee venue, in 'steampunk' theme. Not only is their coffee really good, you can buy the coffee beans, or ground coffee too. I totally recommend their awesome carrot-cake, although their entire 'sweet-menu' is really excellent. Don't forget to buy their sourdough rye bread on your way out. It's also really excellent :) And then more recently, their music event was a blast, historic South African Swing . . . What a fun evening, and awesome musical experience.

I've always wanted to visit this coffee shop and today was the day we visited this coffee shop and oh boy what a treat the atmosphere is amazing the decor is amazing the staff is absolutely amazing and so friendly and helpful and then there is the coffee and oh boy so many options to choose from and its amazing one coffee is definitely not enough with a visit 😋 the food is so fresh and very tasty we had the beef burger meal and it was Amazing !!! We got some treats for dessert, and they have a wide variety to choose from, like chocolate brownie and carrot cake and even a vegan friendly desert called chocolate orange tart, we enjoyed the Lemon Meringue and Chocolate Brownie and a Caramel desert and it was a treat. The menu is so cool, and once again, i must just mention the vibe is amazing as you can sit inside or outside depending on your mood =) There is also a parking bay just across the road from Truth Coffee ☕️ Highly recommend 👌

Exquisite coffee experience … still beats all the coffees I’ve tried before … their breakfasts are insanely good and love the vibe and decor … Unbelievably they have been voted in the top coffees of the world … Truth Coffee Roasting has specialized in selecting and roasting some of the world’s most exclusive coffees. Named the world’s best coffee shop by the The Daily Telegraph for two years in a row, we strive to have you Taste the Joy of the Extraordinary and I dare say I do agree .. “Truth Coffee Roasting shop in Buitenkant street, Cape Town, has been mentioned by acclaimed UK news agency, The Telegraph, as being the very best in the whole world – and we agree they’re the cream of the crop! From a list of 13 unique coffee shops and roasteries in the world, Truth’s steampunk-inspired artisan coffee shop – a warehouse filled from top to bottom with metal piping and quirky, old machinery – surfaced on top, grinding out some of the top shops in France, Vienna, Singapore and Italy. “ Loved the eggs Benedict and French toast !

This place is probably the best coffee shop I've ever been to. I adore coffee and when I walked into this incredibly quirky artistic. The staff are incredible. Get there in the morning and smell the freshly baked pastries warm straight from the oven. Get there on a day where they're roasting it's loud but it smells divine. I have recommended this place to everyone I know who's gone over to South Africa. And I highly recommend it to you.

The best coffee shop in the world in 2017 and I think Truth Coffee still deserves the title until now. Their coffee is devine. Love the flat white for sure, but others were also excellent (sunrise espresso and mocha). I also enjoyed the pastries The staff were friendly and they ensure you know what you want to order. The steam punk decor is another highlight, I feel I was transported to Captain Nemo’s era. Even the menu reminds me of the era. I went there twice and will surely return to Truth if I come back to Cape Town.

I visited here 2 times in the morning, which means a lot for short term traveller! Coffee, food, bread All of them were beyond my expectation! I took DDT and Indian single origin long black. Both were 🤯 so good! I had their sandwiches and decided on buying one loaf of sour dough bread as a souvenir 😂 You won’t regret if you visit here :)

So I got on board the hype train and decided to go here for breakfast. The asthetic of the place was really amazing , it's like walking into a different world. The staff were Really welcoming and friendly . But down to business , I had 2 cups of coffee, a flat white and a black pour over. Exceptional cups of coffee, the best I've ever had. The food was good but not the best I've ever had, but you don't go here for food , you go here for the coffee. We did buy some bags of coffee to take home and the staff ground the coffee to my liking. Definitely take the time to go here .

Great breakfast and coffee, plus the deco has a steam punk vibe to it. There is free wifi connection and plug points should you need to charge your laptop. It does get quite busy and noisy, so it's not a great place to work from. Perfect place to visit to have a quick coffee and breakfast before you start your work day. Be sure to try out their croissants, they are fantastic.

An experience. Great variety of food, very good service(!) even if somewhat busy and great atmosphere. As in many places in Cape Town CBD, parking is a challenge. Kudos to whoever did the concept and interior design, down to WW2(?) music.

What an experience. I come here regularly when I visit Cape Town. Absolutely worth every cent. Amazing steam pump style decor and friendly staff. High quality food and the best coffee you’ll ever taste in South Africa. Unisex restrooms, work stations an communal tables where you can meet people from around the globe. Don’t wait, this is your first stop when arriving in Cape Town.

The Steampunk decor and atmosphere make the Truth Cafe one of a kind! The wait staff are all dressed to the theme and add to the experience. Service is excellent and knowledgeable, and the coffee is unrivaled. If you're looking for a unique experience in Cape Town, this is not to be missed. Our waiter, Chad, was absolutely amazing!

Had a fantastic brunch with the Truth Team! our server Roan was a champion, and helped us navigate the extensive coffee selection. The Eggs Benedict was spectacular! The thick cut bacon was a treat, with the Hokkaido Toast! Definitely will be back to sample their menu (more especially to sample their pastries!) Thank you Truth Team, we had a fantastic time!

False experience I visit the place with a very high expectations because the cafe ranked the best coffee in the world for a year. I ordered the following: 1- Cortado It was typical and had an average taste. 2-black coffee Not bad, and had little residue. 3-brownies It’s not bad but it’s a little bit dense and dry with a strong flavor of chocolate I didn’t like the texture and the taste. Overall, I didn’t like the place but the atmosphere is good the service is not bad the bakeries looks delicious maybe I will try it next time.

Great place, the coffee is so flavourful but not bitter. The food was also amazing, we had the smashed avo for breakfast. The portions were generous and worth it. They close early at 5pm. The service can be slow during peak times

Is this the world’s greatest coffee shop? Yes, yes it is. Expect to spend the better part of your morning here, grazing over croissants, maple pecan pastries, and espresso bacon jam. Spend some time in the bakery section to ask about what’s new and special today. Try a few different drinks and accept that you’ll have enough energy to solve world issues by the afternoon.

Heard about this place and decided to try it out. Without a word of a lie, it's the BEST coffee that I've had in years!! It was the Black Honey clever abid drip coffee - it didn't need coffee/milk, and was the SMOOTHEST coffee I've ever had! The BLT sandwich on sour dough was absolutely delicious as well. And to top it all, the service delivered by Louie and crew was absolutely spectacular and professional! This place had the decor and ambiance for a pleasant experience. I'd highly recommend this place and would visit again in a heartbeat.

Loved our visit here in Feb 2020, when we were visiting South Africa for a holiday. The food and coffee are amazing- not to mention the baked goods! An out of this world chocolate almond croissant (one of my favourites too). Great vibe indoors, where you can see the coffee facilities too. The cold press was lovely, as was a soy flat white. Both menu items delicious. I would definitely rush back next time I'm in SA!

The food was very average - I wouldn’t come back. Interesting interior (although dark inside) & good coffee. I had the avo on toast with eggs and it was literally a slice of bread with half of avocado on it & an egg. No spices no pesto no nothing (the pepper & salt on the photo was added by me) - tasteless.

A really great coffee. Great vibe. Very busy but thoroughly enjoyed the cafe. Loved the outfits the waiters wore. Very good service by the waiters. Finding parking in the street was a bit of an issue, however once we found parking it was ok.

Sheer perfection. My husband and I visited almost every morning we spent in Cape Town. If you grew up watching Treasure Planet, Atlantis, or anything similarly steampunk-y, you'll be sold on the vibe before they even bring you a cup of (the world's best) coffee. It's like stepping into another world. The staff were all attentive -- even during the busy brunch rush. We had the pleasure of being served several days in a row by Lennon, who greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel like regulars every time. Even their menu itself is an experience -- and well worth a read (it reminded me a bit of Trader Joe's Frequent Flyer for my fellow Americans). Over our various visits, I ordered their delicious riff on an eggs Benedict, a mouth-watering breakfast burger, eggplant shashuka, and one of their savory filled croissants, along with a multitude of flat whites (they can make them with oatmilk if you ask) and several sunrise espressos. My one and only regret is that I never remembered to save room to sample their sweet pastries!

Definitely, you need to experience. Good quality of coffee, but I would like to improve deserts and bakery. This is quite simple. Want to see it more crafted not a cheap stuff. And also! Shack Shuka going without eggs for me it was really strange

The place to go to for coffee! This place is worth the hype. I only ordered a black coffee and it was extremely good. Best of all… the place! So cool! Worth going there just for the decor! Even the staffs outfit were extra. Had cool and funny hats for example. And the menu were also something original and well thought of. Kitchen close at 16.00 which is good to know.

My experience at Truth Coffee was amazing. First, the coffee was great and I definitely would return there to enjoy it again. The ambience is also very beautiful. It is designed to look like 18th century America and almost everything reflects that. The table, chairs, ceiling, decor etc. I absolutely loved it! Would recommend 100% that people go there when they are in Cape Town.

I really enjoyed it in here. I had a hot chocolate (with oat milk) and mushroom and aubergine on toast, my friend had a coffee and eggs benedict. We both enjoyed our meals and ended up buying some cakes on the way out too. Inside was lovely, very unique with the items inside and I really loved the decor. The staff were also very pleasant and made sure each person knew what to order. There were plenty of options and if I go back to Cape Town I will be sure to pay a visit again!

Had a delightful experience at this highly recommended spot with a fantastic atmosphere and outstanding coffee + local breakfast. Although the service was slightly lacking due to a busy rush, it's understandable given the number of customers. Just exercise a little patience and you'll be rewarded with a table and a cup of deliciousness. Worth the wait!

  • 4/5 Gail M. 11 months ago on Google
Loved out experience @ TRUTH, the vibe, decour, hosts and the service cannot be faulted on any level. We arrived at a very busy time on a Saturday morning, and got the last available tables in one of the booths under the Pirate Airship. So we felt quite lucky with that. Loved our coffee, and delicious cakes. Serving size was perfect. However we found the caramel cheese cake and lemon meringue pie a little underwhelming. But the chocolate brownie slice thing was Divine!! So so good. They don't really serve much to drink that isn't coffee... or water... but they do have an iced coffee type drink (made with chocolate instead) for those that don't drink coffee. My 9 year-old had that. My 12 year old wants go go back as soon as possible....

In any tourist guide to Cape Town, a visit to Truth Coffee is recommened. The Neflix show Somebody Feed Phil also covered it. The Mad Max-style interior makes this certainly worth a stop. the staff is also dressed in a dystopian style. Luckliy they are friendlier than they look like :-) Although on my second visit (living next door in Airbnb), i went to the take-away counter and the service was really poor: uninterested, short of words, slow service (just for the guy to place the order took 3 minutes) and had to wait 6 min for a latte. The quality of the latte? It was ok. A bit too strong to my taste and the milk had no foam. TL;DR: go here once as part of your bucket list. But for real good coffee, there are way better options.

The truth is (see what I did there... lol), this coffee does not need any sugar, it's not acidic, it's not bitter it's wonderfully balanced. The decor & atmosphere is really stunning and the staff friendly and oppit. The variety on the menu is great. I had the Burrito breakfast which sadly, was very bland. I tried to have a chat with the Chef but he was too busy to visit my table for a few minutes. My hubby's Chuk Suka was amazing though and I simply had to steal some of his sauce to complete my Burrito. All in all a great morning with excellent coffee, but be prepared for the prices which I actually will pay again... It was that good!

Truth coffee has an amazing vibe about it! You walk into this steam punk world where you have so many coffees to choose from and can go wild on actually choosing a roast of your choice. When we were there, there was also an amazing artist named Chad, who was playing some great live music to add to the atmosphere. The one and only down side for me is that i paid 130rand for a croissant with ham and cheese, which I think is insane from a price perspective considering I can go have a rump steak somewhere else for that price. Other then that though, fantastic vibe, great service and spoilt for choice!

  • 3/5 Oliver M. 2 years ago on Google
It’s still a very good and unique place, but compared to other cafe & delis in Cape Town the high ranking is not valid any more for the given food quality. Croissant was shinny due to butter use and the bread had about four times the amount of avocado needed. Service and location is still nice.

No, it's not New York, but how similar is this building??!!! If coffee, chocolate, great food, friendly service, flapper music, steam punk, industrial interiors and anything "olde world" is your vibe, then you'll love the "TRUTH COFFEE" experience. Honestly??? I think I just died and went to heaven. The detailing in the decor to create this theme is brilliantly executed. Bravo!!!! Just incredible. ♡ (PS: there's a parking garage right across the road which is a great help.)

It’s on my bucket list for a bit long, went there in 2019 and it was crowded. So this time just stopped by after finished my paperwork in the town and grabbed some coffees. The waitress at the takeaway counter was very friendly and even showed me more details about the coffee shop, I am really impressed by the sounds of beans rolling and being roasted.

Good coffee, impressive decor and tools, mediocre customer experience. The coffee was good, service was friendly but cold. The place was very busy and the waiters were all busy as well. Overpriced desserts and coffee. I ordered the hazelnut praline and it did not taste like hazelnut nor like praline. Looks like the place is trending, but really not worth the hype.

Probably the best coffee joint in this beautiful country. It's just a lekker vibe. Epic theme complementing the era and style of the building, combined with superb quality coffee and food. Not to mention the fact that the service is superb not to mention the staff are dressed to impress. Definitely gonna be a repeat offender.
