πŸ‘πŸ‘ I love running from Newlands to the blockhouse. Once you're up there it gives you a beautiful view and if you run further you're able to go to the Woodstock Cave and further you'd find tafelberg road where you can exit onto from the mountain . People often mention views, view, hike, walk, Blockhouse, Cape, Great, Rhodes, mountain, city,

Stunning views from here. It's a pretty steep walk up but it's not too long to get up to the Blockhouse. Park at Rhodes Memorial Restaurant/Tea Garden and take the road on the left going up the mountain. It's a good path but a lot of stones and rocks so wear good hiking boots. Its about an hour up for slow walkers.

Although the climb looks daunting when you stand at the bottom of the hill, it is, in fact, not that difficult! There are a couple of steep stairs, but they are separated by many flatter pathways! Once you reach the top, you'll be amazed by the fantastic view over the whole city! It is really worth it! You can access the King's Blockhouse via different trails. We started at the entrance of the Rhodes Memorial Monument parking lot (at the bottom), walked in the forest, along the dam, but you can drive all the way to the monument and park there. You can also start from Newlands or at any other entrances along the Table Mountain! Enjoy! 😊😊

I finally at the age of 47 decided to take up MTB and cycled from Southfield to Kings Blockhouse, what a trip, climb was fairly tough but worth every pedal stroke.... If you have not it is a add to bucket list destination.

Getting there is quite easy. The view from there is remarkable overlooking the CBD and Cape Town harbour as well as the Cape Flats

Interesting monument/building. Somewhat creepy (haha!) But do walk up to it and explore the King's Blockhouse !

Stunning views on our cycling trip! Pretty steep ascend and decent, make sure you have enough air in your tyres, lots of sharp rocks that could cause pinch flats! We had no issues, but on advice we inflated our tyres more before the rideπŸ˜ƒ we saw lots of people hiking and cycling early morning, but the weather was amazing, one local guy said it wind can get strong it'll blow you off your bike! But today there was no wind at all!! The cannons and historic buildings where cool to look at, pose for pics.πŸ“Έ just keep to the left side of road , that way its easier and safer, when ever passing people, as the same road is shared between cyclists and hikers going up and down... carry enough water with you, there is no water point on the route. Enjoy!!🌞🌞🌞

Beautiful views of the city and the harbour. There are many ways to reach the King's Blockhouse. I Would say the easiest is to park on Tafelberg road at the last parking spot before the road is closed for public cars and walk the flat path. You can also start from deer park, from Vredehoek Quarry or even Rhodes memorial. Actually all the Table Mountain paths are connected somewhere. Going alone is not recommended at any time.

Very beautiful view from the blockhouse, but nothing much else, no info about the blockhouse and not much other than the humming coming from the structure. The views are a good reasons to take the hike, so I would definitely recommend it.

This spot has a wonderful view of the bay, it's a quiet spot to sit at and relax. There is a cool tablet giving credit to Mr Jarhead, the Forrester who planted many trees on the then barren hills of this mountain. There are many mountain bike trails to explore in this area too.

One of my favourite views on the mountain, also the easiest to get to. Hiking from Newlands takes about an hour, 100% recommended if you like the outdoors and looking for something quick and easy.

This is one of my favourite places to hike. It offers views of the South, North, and Cbd. There are options to get here also. You can start from Rhodes memorial, kirstenbosch, or tafelberg Road. This route also offers easy access to Woodstock cave along a contour path. All routes are pretty moderate and have gentle climbs

It's a cool hike, not too difficult. You're also able to cycle this one. Make sure you plan you're route and bring lots of water and sunblock.

The King's Blockhouse is a massive stone structure 7m square, located on a prominent point on the Devil's Peak. It was built in 1796 during a restructuring of the Cape Town defenses by Major General James Craig This site is a perfect walk up from Rhodes Memorial to get the heart points going. The view is fantastic with a large panorama of the city bowl and Table Bay stretching across to the Cape Flats with the vineyards in far distance. The Blockhouse is easily visible from many parts of the city’s suburbs.

Very uphill hike. If you're not fit take it slow. It's spectacular to see the view from the blockhouse. Well worth the hike.

Such an incredible view of the city and when the waterfall flows over the entrance you get you look out over the city through the waterfall. Great place to stop and have a snack or little picknic. Its a little sandy and high traffic, so might not recommend a long lunch style picknic.

Great bike route up for a hill climbing leg session. View is incredible. The blockhouse itself is average but the cannons are good to see and cast one's mind back in time.

Old British colonial fort or blockhouse. Still in good condition. Internal repurposed, locked and out if bounds. Beautifull small old cannons relocated there

The bockhouse is a part of our history and so many locals don't take the time to go and visit this historical place... great views and an absolute must and if you want to spend a little extra time in the mountain you can also go visit the Woodstock cave which is not to far from there just a pity that the cave is starting to smell a bit foul due to some people making misuse of it... A great disappointment since i was there last... Hope the munisipality can do something about it
