Life is better with coffee and breakfast under the trees at Starlings. This small restaurant is exceptionally popular, so don't be too surprised if there isn't immediately a table available. Good news is... it's worth it. Their aromatic brews and concise, expertly prepared breakfast menu has, in all our visits, never been a disappointment.

You can park at the entrance of the restaurant, but it's narrow and there's not enough space, so park by the side of the road. The food is delicious and plentiful. The coffee was good, too. The staff were kind. The bathroom was clean, too. There is also an outdoor table. All right, but there may be bird poo on the chair, so please take a good look.🤪 It's a good restaurant I want to visit again. There is no play area for children.

This place is 10/10. One of the best burgers I have ever had and the side salad was amazing. It is a great setting, good service, and great value. Highly recommended,

Had a lovely breakfast date Cute set up in the midst of a garden with lovely greenery scenic views. The eggs Benedict was amazing and the smash burger was so tasteful. Will definitely be back for more

Very cosy. The outdoor area is very relaxing with a mixture of sun & shade streaming through the trees. Indeed a charming place to meet for a cuppa & a treat. The salmon quiche and salad was amazing. Thanks to our server who was very friendly and so patient with us. I definitely recommend a visit.

We went to this place for lunch on a weekday. The service was pretty slow, our waiter was confused about what was and what wasn’t available. We ordered a chicken wrap and a chicken sandwich. Both the wrap and the salad were served with a small side salad garnish. The chicken wrap was quite bland. The chicken sandwich was delicious. But overall, this place is ridiculously overpriced at almost R300 for two sandwiches, and a coffee.

A secret garden with an idyllic setting and good food. If nobody told you about the place, you might not even see it. Perfect for a tea time treat or incognito rendezvous.

Well done to the owner and team. They’ve done a great job, customer service is awesome, a little bit slow. The look and feel is fresh. The quality of food was great. The Wi-Fi wasn’t amazing. It’s not kid friendly. Don’t know if it’s dog friendly.

Lovely vibe and great staff! Stopped by for a quick coffee catch-up with a friend and ended up having a super yummy chicken mayo toastie too. Perfectly cozy and a good spot for remote workers or for a quick business coffee. Highly recommend!

The atmosphere is amazing. I could listen to the birds tweeting and the environment is really calm and cosy. The service was absolutely brilliant. I ate French toast with blueberry compote and it was delectable. In my view the food was good value for money. I really was impressed with the restroom because it is completely quirky. The decor is spectacular.

Gorgeous garden area making for a wonderful little escape in suburbia. Good and coffee where great. There's no signage on the road so you going to need Google maps to find it. Definitely planning on visiting through summer.

Service was good and the food OK. My egg mayonnaise dish was not like the traditional smooth mayonnaise consistency and was lumpy with very little mayo dressing, somewhat disappointing. My wife's salad was enjoyed and was a large portion. It was busy as usual and there was no seating outside. My other disappointment was that the mince on toast was off the menu for lunch. I also thought the lunch menu was limited.

A nice place with an easy menu . Please not that they don’t serve alcohol heheh ..was hoping for a mimosa with my meal . The food was nice and the waiters were good . One thing they could improve is to laminate their paper menus so that it doesn’t get more dirty

Great experience all round! Loved the outdoor section under trees. Food was fresh and delicious. Great service. Great coffee. Will be back soon for the carrot cake! Back in April 2023 - even better than I remember it! Had the chicken wrap - world class.

Absolutely beautiful little hidden Gem. It feels like you are sitting in an enchanted forest. They were very accommodating to my diabetic needs. They didn't have low carb toast but my breakfast wasn't lacking at all. It was perfect.

The service was not so good, the latte was amazing, the food was ok I different like the sauce though smelled too much of eggs ,I think they should musk it with some vanilla extract, it would be perfect. The atmosphere is great when you are outside, but inside is too much traffic 😑.. but it's a cool spot I'd definitely come back to try the brunch menu🥰😱

An old favourite, a little gem in the suburbs with the shaded outside area offering the correct mix of dappled shade and sunshine, while you sip of your drinks and enjoy well prepared light meals. Great breakfasts and lunches - generously portioned. Service is friendly and never disappoints.

SHOCKING TREATMENT I've been here plenty before, and have recommended Starlings to MANY many friends and guests visiting Cape Town, but I have NEVER been treated so poorly at a coffee shop for being a remote worker in my life! When I arrived, I checked with the waitress to see if I could work at the counter until a table became available as I wanted to have breakfast at a table and not at the counter. She told me she would let me know as soon as a table became available. After working for quite a while, I noticed a few walk-ins who'd arrived after me being seated at tables. I spoke to a 2nd waitress to remind them that I was waiting for a table and was told they would let me know... Again, after seeing people being seated before me, I asked a (3rd person) gentleman if I could please be seated at a table. He asked if I was working, to which I replied "Yes, but I'd like to have breakfast at a table and not sit awkwardly at the counter and eat". I was told that because I am working I am not allowed to sit at a table - even though I am wanting to order breakfast. I politely paid and left. On exiting, I noticed PLENTY open tables available; also tables with people sitting on their own, no guest, not even eating, but on their phone simply having a single coffee. I can vouch for their food because, as mentioned, I've been here plenty times before. As far as service goes and how they treat people, absolutely SHOCKING. I won't be back, nor will I be sending anyone here ever again. There are plenty other brilliant coffee shops and restaurants in Cape Town with not only great food, but excellent service and friendly, lovely staff as well.

The only reason for not giving this place 5 stars is ... I don't give 5 stars (and I have zero clue how to give 1/2 stars)!! Had a fantastic breakfast here. The setting is to die for, the breakfast was great (I had curry mince and poached eggs on toast and my friend had poached eggs with bacon), the service was friendly and efficient. I am really happy we decided to venture from the normal franchised venues to here as I can only rate it top quality and highly recommend it as a breakfast venue. One word of advice, get there early because at 0830 we had the enough tables to choose from but when we left at around 1000 the place was humming ... well deserved success!

A beautiful hidden gem, started off with the berry smoothie, it was super thick and delicious and I ordered the French toast- there were two options, I ordered the one that comes with bacon and banana, and then my friend ordered the eggs Benedict with bacon, absolutely scrumptious but the service was okay a 2,5/5.

Love, love, love the garden setting at Starlings! Great coffee, smoothies, and baked treats 😁 Winter months spent indoors while the fire is going is also amazing! Attached are a few pics I took while building an app-based marketing platform for coffee shops!

This was a lovely surprise when we entered the green garden and sat down at a beautifully decorated table. The trees spend enough shade on a hot day and it all had a very relaxed atmosphere. People were working on their laptops, moms were meeting for a coffee with their new born babies and old ladies were chatting about life. The menu is not excessive, but you still have a great choice of things to eat. We had a burger and an open sandwich and both were absolutely delicious.

Set in an old house with a beautiful margin garden. Front of Starlings has an enormous hedge, so look for that, not a building with a higher Quaint decor throughout, including the gorgeous bathroom, and into the magical garden. Very shady, all range of seating options. There a fewer seating options inside and on the steep, but the amount of pretty outdoor seating names up for that. They do not have a wide ranges of cakes and croissants and scones, etc. What they have us extremely well made and delicious. I have mostly gone for coffee and a croissant. On a couple of occasions that I ate, the food was also great, especially the salads. I thoroughly recommend a visit to starlings for the food and the atmosphere. Not sure if you can book but if you can phone ahead and book a table for outside, they are taken fast.

This little gem never disappoints. Fresh food beautifully presented and decent portions. Whether you’re after a cuppa in the garden or prefer the cosy warmth indoors, you’ll enjoy the friendly service and the quaint setting.

I am a regular at this spot - I love the fact that it's a "hidden gem". For me it's a collective number of things: the menu, the ambience, the indoor vs outdoor option, the gorgeous garden and the stunning decor. There are some great gluten free options (the gluten free brownie is my fave).

You have to go beyond the trees to experience this. Starlings cafe is true to their name... Many starlings birds at home in their garden while you enjoy your meal. At first the atmosphere feels oddly not like a restaurant but more like someones home you visiting. Even better so. Spacious and popular. Good food, better coffee, a must must try.

Such a lovely hidden gem! A little sanctuary with amazing staff and delicious food. I only had the breakfast this time round but I'll be back. Update: Decided to head back to Starlings but unfortunately the incredible experience I had a few weeks ago was no where to be seen. Two staff members walked right passed while I waited to be seated. No warm greeting and waiting time to be shown a menu was 10 min. I was excited to have a breakfast again but decided against it for two reasons. 1. No one came to ask if I wanted to eat anything. 2. If the coffee took 10 min to get I wasn't sure how long breakfast would take.

Wholesome tasty meals in a cosy, secluded garden setting. Friendly staff and good value for money. A number of vegetarian and vegan options.
