Hans & Lloyd's feels like snuggling into the cozy embrace of a vintage coffee sack--if hessian weren't itchy, and premium coffee beans were cotton balls. They serve a rich, full-bodied brew that is high on my list of yummiest coffees in Cape Town. I can't comment on the entire menu, but if all of it is as good as Lloyd's Vegetarian Breakfast, you can't go wrong. The chunky mushrooms were incredible.

A really nice venue with inside and outside seating. The food was pricey for the quantity however still very tasty. The service was unfortunately very slow and poor. We had to leave our table to find a waiter on more than one occasion after waiting a while and not having any check in on us. We had seats right at the back. There is street parking as well as a small paid parking area (see times on the boards)

Lovely restaurant in Newlands. Great coffee, good service and scrumptious food. We had breakfast and chose the full breakfast, the vegetarian option and the avo on toast, served with cappacino. The food was well prepared and the portions are huge. I will definitely visit them again.

Tranquil atmosphere with full-body coffee that draws you into your company and the full flavours. Beautifully designed interior and the staff are exceptionally kind and delightful. Incredible experience.

Great spot for your morning fix once you have battled the Newlands school run. Wont be unusual to bump into a fellow member of the PTA, with SACS, Herschel, or Westerford within a good snack of 3 iron. Vibe is warm and friendly, coffee is good with a fair selection of roast, and pastries always fresh and waiting. I think there is Wi-Fi, but the 5G is reasonably good for hot-spotting anyhow. Worth a visit, even for a cup of Java for the drive home… Ciao ~ SB ☕️

This place is quite busy. It is nice but crowded, and the breakfast took forever. We suspected that somehow we were forgotten, but I'm the end of about 30 min after ordering. We got our food. The eggs with avo mash were good.... I would give it another chance, but mostly because I like the location

Great service from the assistant manager. I had the best side salad ever with my toasted sandwich. Generous with the feta. I will definitely be back.

Coffee is always on point. No frills or smart alec barristers...just straight to the point coffee. (updated 17 may 2022) Since you haven't taken my post serious wrt ur Muizenberg branch, I have decided to drop my review of you to 1 star. Only because 0 does not exist as a review.

Superb toasted sandwiches. Would recommend the chicken mayo on Sourdough, truly exceptional. Iced coffee is also great, nice to find a cafe that doesn't drown the iced coffee in water

I've been to the Muizenberg branch and had a good experience, this was our first visit to this branch. I don't know hey this branch just doesn't have a good vibe, waiters are not friendly (the guys behind the counter were welcoming but waiters could care less to even greet), food was average (we had eggs benedict but it was so overpriced and average). The only good thing was the coffee was. Very disappointing.

I’m updating my 1 year old review to say the same still applies….Excellent coffee, breakfasts, smoothies and more. Friendly service. Can get quite busy especially early mornings but worth a little wait for a seat. Cute courtyard at the back and verandah in front, both covered.

I’ve been searching for months for a coffee shop to work from, meet my clients or just pop in for a quick cappuccino. Hans and Lloyd in Newlands has ticked all the boxes for me and has become my ultimate favourite. They are central making it easy to travel to and from the southern suburbs. Their breakfast dishes are an absolute must and they serve a nice warm cappuccino for the coffee lovers. Also if you’re feeling for a ginger shot they got you covered. I’ve visited over two days to make sure I wasn’t dreaming! Definitely will be back 😁

Even if the food was phenomenal (it was average at best) it would not make up for the terrible service. The waiters were unfriendly and uninterested. It took more than 45min for our very basic breakfasts to arrive (and this was towards the end of breakfast not even during rush time) and in that time nobody came to check in or give an update on the food. We kept having to get up to find a waiter as they would walk past our table and literally ignore us trying to get their attention. The drinks are a bit overpriced but were at least good, the food was expensive for what you get (small portion size and average quality).

Truly one of the best places I've been to. The food was amazing! Let me tell you, the Bruschetta was to die for 😍. Cute little date spot. Best views when you're sitting outside.

Vibey little spot in newlands with decent coffee. I frequent this spot at least once a week and I have to say... The service is non-existent. No welcome, have to seat yourself and then chase down a waiter everytime you need something. I guess they're always busy so they don't really care much!

Didn't eat anything but did enjoy the atmosphere and the drinks we had. Had a meeting here and I will definitely recommend having a meeting here it is not loud and you can actually have a conversation. The menu items look tantalising I will try then next time

I didn't leave a tip today. I felt guilty because I always tip. The best way I can describe it is 'indifferent'. Perhaps suffers from being too busy - the coffee and prices are good. Indifferent: no welcome, find your own table - not a problem; had to ask for menus and service; the coffee arrived quickly; had to call for service to order food; omelettes took forever: second coffee almost done and had to ask a waiter to check; the food arrived - warm, not hot; mine was tasty (cheese and bacon) - no complaint; wife's spinach had grit (unwashed) and some unsliced mushrooms were too big for bitesize. The table clearer took the plates without a word or eye-contact - our comment about the grit in the spinach was misdirected as he didn't do anything with the information; we paid - I embarrassed my wife by not adding a tip - and we left. Normally I would just accept as is... with a 'typical when management is nowhere to be seen' thought. But today I didn't leave a tip and I don't feel any better about it.

So much more than just a coffee shop. Great light meals. Good vibe, friendly staff. I could not resist a slice of carrot cake. I highly recommend 👌🏼

Probably the best almond milk cappuccino I’ve had. Whatever coffee they using here. I love it. Vibe is awesome. Inside (don’t just stop outside, take a walk through, it’s quite rad) and outside. Food was good but I didn’t get what I ordered. Hate to complain so ate it anyway and it was still delicious. It gets proper busy in here 8-9 and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Best coffee spot in Newlands that’s for sure. Great food as well.

Had the most delicious hot chocolate and caramelized onion toastie. Very good value for money (especially on a student budget) and will definitely be going again. Sat outside in winter but the fire they had going kept things warm.

Stunning ambience, it has a great feeling. The coffee was good and the pastries delicious but, it was not busy and my coffee arrived cold. The pastries were delayed because they were being warmed but arrived warm on the outside and cold in the middle. Being on a tight time line before a meeting I went inside to find either of our servers for the bill. They were leaning against a table having a fat chat and seemed disinterested. Perhaps I was just unlucky.

For the second time, I’ve had to eat an ice cold breakfast - nothing worse than soft poached eggs, ice cold. My husband’s omelette was burnt - all after waiting 50 minutes since placing the order! H&L had totally lost the plot. The proprietor is never in the coffee shop to ensure standards are maintained and inexperienced staff cannot be expected to do so!
