The absolute best of the best. Asian fusion style restaurant situated in a hotel called the onyx in the CBD which makes it a destination type restaurant, and it is always busy which just shows how good it is. It attracts a loyal customer base. The staff are all friendly, well presented and know the menu very well. Most of them have been here for years, and they make a point to remember their loyal customers from year to year. I went with two friends and we ordered a variety of dishes , every single one was 10/10. Edamame beans, chicken wings, dim sum is the best you can get, sushi, short rib bao buns unreal. Our waitress Precious was amazing. Also the food comes very quickly. It is great to order a lot of small dishes and to share. Thanks to Yu for another amazing meal and I look forward to visiting again soon!

How can 100% fruit juice contain added preservatives, sucrose, water and flavorings? surely that is then not 100% Come on you're adding sugar and saying its 100% fruit juice? Its getting worse every time i read one of your labels! - EDIT - response - So you are adding sugar? And you are adding sucrose not fructose any way? and what about sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and filtered water? are they plant based to? Absolute rubbish mate!

Fine dinning restaurant. Expect to spend at least R200. I suggest getting different tapas instead of one main meal. Food is delicious. Portions are a bit small. Service is fast and friendly. Table lighting is great.

We tried Yu today and staff were friendly and attentive. The food was really good. I would definitely recommend the chicken wings, chicken and sriracha bao and the chicken fried dumplings! Those were our favorites. Everything was good aside from the seafood steamed dim-sum, it was a bit fishy for our taste! Will definitely be back! There’s so much more in the menu to try

Amazing food and staff. Nothing less than 5 stars. We had several different items to eat, from calamari, ribs, bar buns, prawns, zuchinni fries, butternut mussel soup, edamamme beans, it was all incredible. Fantastic food, great cocktails and always amazing. Yu, you never disappoint, thank you. The only thing I would ask for is candles on the tables to be able to read the menu.

Hats off to the entire team for giving us all a beautiful dining experience ans the most mouthwatering food. Compliments to you all! I enjoyed my visit here. 5star service with a knowledgeable waitor who offered us excellent options based on our preferences. He was able to educate us about the dishes on the menu, assist me with choosing the wine I liked and the food was delicious, filling and well presented. We waited a little longer than we had expected to between our starters and mains because we were very hungry but the food was well worth the wait. The table was a little dark though as it was located between down lights. We had to use our phone torches to see what we were served better. A candle or some sort of soft light on the table wud be appreciated. Yu, I'm looking forward to visiting You again 😃

This is the place. We didn't want the meal to end, but unfortunately we can only eat so much. The seared tuna salad with peanut dressing is 2die4, the Bao buns are hectic, and the sushi is top notch. 3 plates are enough for 2 people, don't underestimate the portion sizes. Highly recommended!

Has great potential but misses the mark on most dishes. Was lacking in the balanced flavours that Asian cuisine requires but since the flavour profiles of the core seasonings are already good it is a satisfactory dining experience. Skip the dessert - not worth it.

What an amazing meal We shared the meals between two of us. We ordered the chicken money bagd deep fried dim sum. This was the best. We also had the chicken boa bun which was delicious. And then we shared the Peking duck with pancakes which was incredible. Cheesecake and ginger crumble for dessert. The atmosphere was great and good selection of wine as well. The staff were really friendly.

They have the best Tapas in the city and their Sushi is better than so many of the so called Sushi places in Cape Town . They also have a great selection for vegans.

Just amazing! I cannot wait to visit again, as there are some dishes I want to try. The fried ginger chicken dumplings and sticky ribs were delicious! Sesame crusted tuna was faultless. Atmosphere and service was great!

My Favourite restaurant in Cape Town! Having enjoyed Chinese food in mainland China I have struggled to find any Chinese food to match that quality, the YU restaurant not only matched the quality and authenticity of the Chinese food but also had the best Sushi I have ever tried. Located in a far from scenic part of CPT this gem of a restaurant offers the best food and service I have experienced in this city. Despite the location the atmosphere is superb, and the food is surprisingly affordable for what you are getting... but don't be fooled, this is a high end restaurant. The YU restaurant gets a 5/5 from me!

A great dining experience. We enjoyed our seared, crusted tuna, though we would have liked to see all sides of the fish crusted as well as a better cut of fish. The bao buns were alright as well, definitely better than many other places, but still nothing too incredible. One of our party ordered the salmon and very much liked the sauce and the cut of fish. Biggest complaint is that there were way too many specials for an evening - keeping it to just 2-3 specials that the chef could do well would result in superior specials.

Yu has been on my radar for ages, but admittedly, the location did deter me for a while, but on Friday after a networking event, we headed into town. We called ahead to ensure they could accommodate us. Upon arrival, the restaurant felt moody and modern. The only negative and its really not their fault is the bright light from the Media24 digital billboard, which is like a torch in your face. Nonetheless, the service was wonderful and welcoming. Our waitress gave us some insight as to how to order and her suggestions, which we followed. We ordered the Chicken and Ginger potstickers, Chicken and Sriracha Bao Buns, Wagyu Beef Tetaki, and the Peking Duck with pancakes. Everything was tasty and delicious 😋. Potstickers fried, super crispy with a wonderful hum of ginger. The bao is soft and pillowy, the chicken filling crispy. The pancakes were thin and soft with Duck that was perfectly cooked (sorry, forgot to take pics). As there was so much food, we didn't have space for dessert 😔 but we have vowed to return, very soon!

Visited Yu for the first time and had a lovely meal. We also had a recommended special - cauliflower bao buns, which were packed with flavour. The atmosphere was vibey, good lighting and interior decor. The service and attention to detail was excellent! Definrely recommend!

Currently sitting in a very empty restaurant, not one waiter has offered me a wine menu, or a refill of the water I had initially ordered. Order a starter of hosin calamari, very tasty, now left with the 45min wait for the peking duck main... Still waiting for water.... Such a shame.... ***edit*** So I initially wrote this butwhat did happen after the review.. Surprised me..... The manager and waiters read my review. Now that in its self dosent make up for slow service but it speaks to the human condition, sometimes we get it wrong, sometimes we forget. I paid for my bill (in full because the food was delicious) and I'm sure after they have rallied "their troops" to ensure single diners aren't left to their own demise... I might be back for a 5 star review

Still one of the best places in Cape Town to enjoy date night downstairs and the game on the 4th floor with the bartenders doing what they do best, pouring magnificent drinks. The YU is special and sacred the Ayer room to detail that they have taken is exceptional. The Bao Buns, Sushi, Tom Yum Soup was so amazing. The Edamame Beans needed abit of help it was overcooked and soggy. The look and feel of the place is brilliant and has a unique feel. The staff were friendly and helpful some of them need a little bit more training. Well if you want some Asian Tapas go and give the YU fam a visit. If you a guest you can get the whole menu of food delivered to the pool area too which is nice. A litre disappointed with what they call room service as it didn’t feel special it just came in takeaways containers and they charged you R35 for the tray that was not great. Don’t call it room service if it’s in a takeaway. Freddy the GM was incredible and apologised for the lack of service.

Freddy makes it his duty to come around to the table and makes everyone at the table feel special. The combination of excellent tasty tapas and brilliant service is a winning formula. I ordered a salmon poke bowl take away and got home to find it was showered in chilli, which isn't mentioned on the menu, it's full of aubergine which isn't mentioned on the menu, it didn't have any mayo in it and was just a very disappointing and strange taste which I couldn't finish as I don't handle chilli at all. Put the ingredients on the menu and make note of things like chilli.
