Terrible organization, with small, overpriced rooms... Stayed there for two months just before the Corona crisis after which I suddenly had to leave. Afterwards, Rent-A-Room spent my deposit and now does not want to give it back. Furthermore, the rooms are overpriced and you have to pay a ton to get extra wifi. Would not recommend this organization to anyone.

I stayed at 89 station road biggest mistake I ever made! poor service these people only care about making money OVERCHARGING people for a match box size room they nice to you at the start because they want you to fall into the trap of paying a 1 and a half month + full rent deposit once you in they couldn't care less about you. I contracted Covid 19 in the house after informing RAR numerous of time about the big parties that were happening in the house students wrecking the house and kitchen very dirty and unclean couldn't cook food because always dishes were left to pile up woke up in the morning to a toilet full of vomit left buy students friends, having massive sleepovers had to wake up to a house smelling like filth and seeing random people drunk and passed out on the couches in the living room people who are not even paying rent they took no action to stop the house parties that I complained about. They make you sign agreements but they don't take action when action is needed. I absolutely would not advise anyone to rent through this company absolutely horrible!

I honestly don't know what's going with some of the negative reviews I read on here. I stayed in 73 Arnold St and have absolutely no complaints. 73 Arnold has a swimming pool and the kitchen and my room were clean. The location could have been better, but then again, you get what you pay for.

My stay with Rent-A-Room was a great option long term. They had a variety of houses to choose from and were very flexible with move-in and move-out dates. It allowed me to meet new people and form a community here in Observatory.

I had a great experience staying with rentaroom. They were very responsive when it came to fixing technical problems in the house. They made my transition to Cape Town very comfortable and straight forward. The houses were kept up nicely by the staff and communication was very good.

Rent a Room made my stay in Cape Town such a beautiful experience. Even before I arrived to Cape Town, I had no doubts I would be hosted well because the staff were very responsive every time I needed any clarification with regards to my booking. The staff are quick to respond and for that I commend them. I then arrived in CT and I stayed in Loft L7 and my room was very spacious and at a very secure location. The cleaning was done well and I can’t really complain on anything about Rent a Room services. The only thing I would want to mention even though it is not the fault of Rent a Room is that since Cape Town is very windy, room 5 in L7 can get a little dusty when it is windy but once I shifted the bed away from the small gaps that were bringing in the dust everything was excellent. But this is just a minor issue that can be solved by blocking those minor gaps. But all in all my stay was excellent and I wouldn’t mind staying in the same room again if I were to return to Cape Town. The apartment is also just 5 minutes walk to the supermarket and the area with many restaurants so if you don’t feel like cooking, you will not go hungry. All in all it was a wonderful experience and thanks Rent a Room for hosting me and for even allowing me to check out much much later than the usual time. That I appreciated. Thank you Patience and Keelan for responding to my WhatsApp messages at odd hours, that was very much appreciated.

Stayed with Rent A Room for three months, they made my stay in Cape Town very comfortable! They were easy to contact, quick in response and always willing to help. The house I stayed in (3 Bishop) was spacious, with all amenities included and clean.

I don't care about these terrible reviews by all these ungrateful, greedy people. I actually have low expectations when I live somewhere in a foreign country and RAR exceeded my expectations. I lived at 197 lower main road and it was the best experience of my life. RAR kept the house clean, constantly renovated it to make it look cooler, and was always available whenever we needed something. Sometimes the house wasn't super clean, sometimes there was too much construction in the house to handle living there, and sometimes appliances in the house didn't work but when you live in a foreign country for some time you have to be easygoing and deal with these types of things. All these people writing terrible reviews have no clue what they are talking about. Small rooms, parties, unclean kitchens, deal with it!! You are living in a foreign country!! Your living situation is going to be very far from perfect. Sounds like some spoiled brats to me. RAR gave me an experience that I will never forget. Thank you RAR!!

Worst organisation ever, rented a room for half a year and at the and of our stay we tried to organize a party (everyone in our house had parties weekly). We discussed with them if and how we could organize a farewell party and they told us it was okay. Then we had the party and we got evacuated out of our house 5 days before leaving cape town. It was not legally approved and they knew we would leave in 5 days so we couldn't do anything about it. I would recommend: please rent your room elsewhere.

I just arrived in Cape Town for the first time and came in the Milton Road 49 house. Unfortunately I did not like the house and observatory. This was mainly because it was very quiet at that time, because all the people just moved out unfortunately. I explained this to Rentaroom and they helped me very good with moving out the house and getting my refund back in time. Good service!

Overall my experience was great! We do have a problem with ants in our house which was annoying however it was not the end of the world. We also had a bunch of issues with our alarm which seemed to be a huge inconvenience whenever we would ask for help. However, overall I really enjoyed my stay. My housemates were super awesome and I’m super blessed I got the opportunity to come down to capetown!

Very nice place, and comfortable rooms. They have an inverter, so even with load shedding there is electricity (sometimes). It’s next to the number 1 pizza place in Cape Town, Ferdinandos! And the staff are very welcoming.

Nice home in a lively area of Cape Town, near stores and public transportation. Home was secure and kept clean. Any issues Rent A Room would address in a timely manner.

Renta-Room is a great choice for a short-term stay in Capetown. They have a great selection of houses/rooms to choose from which are fully secure. Additionally, all houses are central to shops, restaurants, and grocery stores. Also, the staff is really great and very helpful, they are always there when you need them. The only issue I had was the payment for electricity and the pricing of rooms (based off room size, compared to other rooms in the house). In all, my stay at renta-room was great and I enjoyed all of my housemates.

I had an amazing experience with Rent A Room! The room was clean, the house was nice, and the team was very friendly. They were always available to help and made our experience very easy. I would definitely recommend.

For a first time traveler, this was exactly what I needed. The team was responsive and always willing to help. The house itself was better that I could have hoped for in terms of cleanliness and amenities. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a quality company to assist them in securing housing for their stay in Observatory.

I loved my stay here! I loved the housekeeping staff and my roommates! Overall great experience. My one complaint is the price for the rooms is the same when some people get their own bathrooms and the rooms are such different sizes. Also paying for electricity is a bit of a hassle:(

Clean place to stay. Adequately sized rooms. Large kitchen space so that the whole house can keep food in the kitchen. Bathrooms are nice and there are enough for the amount of people who can live in the house.

The Rent A Room staff are so friendly, helpful, and supportive throughout the entire process of securing housing and through the end of your visit.

Loft F1 was a good location as it allowed us to easily walk downstairs to the VAC and Rent-A-Room (RAR) offices and participate in Culture Series Nights and easily leave for Friday Activities (as we always left from the VAC). The downside of Loft F1 was that it was particularly cold. Due to the brick structure of the building it was almost always colder inside our loft than outside. I would recommend bringing an extra blanket and warm winter coats. Additionally, one of the 10 rooms in Loft F1 acts as a storage unit for additional equipment for all of the RAR spaces (storing items such as TVs, washers, extra furniture, etc.). This means that several times throughout our trip people would come into our room, unannounced, to get supplies from that room. We didn’t particularly love coming home to people in our loft that we had never seen before, however, they were typically pretty brief and it was never an issue (they never went in our bedrooms/nothing was ever taken). RAR was exceptionally responsive and was always willing to check out concerns of ours in a timely manner (cleaning mold in the showers, checking on our fridge that didn’t get cold, replacing our dryer when it broke, etc.). They had a cleaning service that came twice a week (for our loft that happened to be Sundays and Tuesdays). On those days they would clean the kitchen (with the exception of dishes), sweep the living room, and clean the bathrooms. One of our cleaning ladies, Eunice, was exceptionally pleasant, hard working, and left the place clean and did so in a timely manner. Our other cleaning lady, Sybil, was also very friendly and did an okay job cleaning, however, every time she came she would sit on her phone for hours in the kitchen or in the bathroom. It was just odd that she would do that in our apartment and we felt that it was a bit inappropriate to be doing that at her job, however, we recognize that the work culture in South Africa is a lot more relaxed than in the United States. I wish we would’ve had access to a mop during our stay here, as the floors got dirty very quickly with 7 people in the same loft. We had access to a broom and frequently used it, however, the only time the floors were mopped was by the cleaning staff the weekend we all departed. I wish they would’ve have been mopped more frequently (which I would have been happy to do had we had access to a mop).

Good house, comfortable beds, great service. I luckily also had great housemates. The common areas are regularly cleaned and the staff was very responsive. The location isn’t very safe so you’ve got to be street smart.

Patience and the team at Rent a Room were so helpful and accommodating during my stay. They always responded quickly to any messages and addressed any concerns we had in a timely manner. I would highly recommend working with them and would happily use Rent a Room for my next stay!

Rentaroom made my stay in Cape Town very comfortable! They were easy to contact, quick in response and always willing to help. I stayed in Loft L7 during the winter months, and my only complaint is that my room got incredibly cold. Aside from that, the space was very nice!

Overall, great experience! Staff came in to clean and keep the place tidy every day. The accommodation itself was nice, large, and well kept, and there was a substantial amount of amenities, such as an abundance of bathrooms, dryers, washers, and more. The location I stayed at (197 Lower Main Rd.) was also perfect and within few minutes' walking distance of the best shops, restaurants, and cafes in Observatory. Overall, I would rate my experience a 10/10!
