Great city centre location for the new theatre, shopping even a few bars and restaurants within a 30 second walk! or even if you are a government worker (building is opposite) or winter wonderland when its there. Rooms are huge. Impressively high ceilings give the sense of a lot more room, clean and seem well kept. Tea coffee and even biscuits. Friendly service and fresh cooked breakfast. Pool is in the basement not sure if it was a car park with huge columns in the pool which will cut down on the use if its busy. Overall definitely stay again.

Amazing hot stones massage but facilities didn’t impress. The steam room didn’t seem to be working. My spa robe had holes in. The pool was quite cold. The staff were really nice though. Apart from massage the experience just didn’t seem to be worth the money we paid.

This is a gem of a hotel, restaurant and bar. Original menus for food and cocktails all served up in a welcoming and stylish environment. The rooms are very nicely styled, comfortable and well appointed too

Very comfortable one night stay. Some late night noise from the front of the hotel, maybe ask for a room at the rear. Discount code welcome to reduce parking in NCP across the road. Clean and good facilities in the room. Late night room service slow and limited choice. Would recommend for its good location and comfort.

Stayed here for my wife's birthday, booked a superior room with birthday package and flowers in the room. Check in was easy and the room was big and clean. Would recommend staying here but would not recommend adding extras to the room. The flowers I paid £35 for were the smallest bunch of flowers I've seen, and to add insult to injury still had the £13 price tag still on them from M&S. When questioned the receptionists words were 'we need to make money to go to the shop to get them'. I understand they need to mark them up but nearly 200% seems a bit steep.

Don't stay here if you want any service. After calling the front desk multiple times on the evening of Mon Sep 26 about a faulty air conditioner, no one helped us at all. The next morning after complaining again along with being locked out of our room before checkout, we were told the phone calls never happened and were offered a paltry $50 refund. Definitely won't be staying again, and definitely don't reccomend. Attached is the error code from the air conditioner any idiot could Google.

Very nice city centre hotel. Staff polite and friendly. The hotel was a little tired however very clean with nice decor. The standard double room we stayed in was a good size with a comfortable bed and pillows. The room was a little cold despite turning up the heating for a good few hours. It was a ten minute walk to the motorpoint arena via the city centre making ut ideal for food, shopping and attending that venue for events. Overall I would stay here again.

We visited for our anniversary. While the service was great and the staff were friendly and welcoming, we were disappointed in the room. The air conditioning does not go below 19 degrees. It should therefore be renamed realistically to temperature controller or something along those lines as an air conditioner is supposed to reduce the temperature of the room. The staff member entered the room and recalled it was warm and therefore offered and gave us a fan which was very kind. The bathroom sink overflowed which maintenance fixed and the shower room floor remained wet when we returned at the end of the day which again maintenance looked at. The room was advertised as a superior room with an extra large double bed which we booked thinking we would get a nice big room however we weren't aware that it was a disability access room as this was not stated. We thought we were just booking a bigger room for an extra cost which we paid. We would have settled for a normal room in that case. The breakfast options were nice, again the staff we really friendly. The options were the same as you would expect anywhere there wasn't anything different for the higher price tag. The spas steam room was out of action therefore it was swimming and jacuzzi only which was disappointing as we booked the venue for the sauna which we thought was working. I have been on spa days before and when one item is out of action they have provided a free pass to return when everything is up and running again however noone apologised for the lack of sauna. I booked the hotel for my wedding anniversary and other than the service there was little positive feedback on the room. I would recommend booking elsewhere because for the cost the Park Plaza is not worth the price.

Room was lovely and the bed was huge and so comfortable. A little let down by the view from our room (scaffolding) but the lovely lady Sara on reception tried to help with a move but unfortunately they were fully booked for the night. Sara even hand delivered a birthday card and cake to the room to wish me a happy birthday which was incredibly thoughtful of her, thank you!! Breakfast was also amazing with so much choice. Will definitely be returning.

Terrific night's stay with family. The service was exemplary. The restaurant offers a lovely wooded view with a good offering at breakfast. There's a swimming pool with jacuzi and steam room. Room service available all day and the onsite Laguna bar and restaurant for evening meals. There's no parking but immediately across from the hotel is a multi story NCP park and if you park there currently the hotel gets a 25% discount.

We booked the Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Sunday Spa Break. Had a lovely time using the swimming pool and steam room. Unfortunately the jacuzzi was out of order but the facilities here are excellent. The staff are very polite and friendly. Then had a lovely massage and used the relaxation room which overlooks some lovely trees. Then it was time to go for our three course dinner, included in the package, which we both really enjoyed. We then had a stroll around the city. Cardiff Castle is very impressive and only a 5 minute walk away. The room allocated to us was incredibly spacious, peaceful and excellently equipped. We would highly recommend this hotel and spa.

First of all the staff were amazing, they went above and beyond with a request to make the room romantic adding petals and brownies as well as swapping out our coffee for hot chocolate. The view wasn't great with the multi story car park opposite us but that was expected. The hotel itself was beautiful, very cosy atmosphere. The pool was salty as mentioned in other reviews and quite busy but we still had a lovely time.

We went for mother's Day Sunday lunch, the wait time for food was extremely long even for mother's day. It didn't seem like there was any structure to the management of tables. We missed our third course as we had to leave to travel home. A good hour between each course.

I had afternoon tea at Laguna with my daughter for Mothering Sunday. Fantastic service and lovely food. Toilets were very clean and checked regularly.

Just stayed in a superior, tree lined room. Huge bed & room. Great staff. Fab location for New Theatre. Used 12 O clock check out to go early shopping before leaving bags with concierge then collecting with car later. Spa is a good amenity. Great breakfast. Do go

I took a corporate room and it was 4.5/5. However, the breakfast was too dry. The beacon was dry and the food was not impressive. But the bed was king size and comfortable.

Fantastic from start to finish! I accidentally booked a room for 1 instead of 2 and with fantastic humour they sorted my error out. The spa facilities are gorgeous. We didn't eat there but the bar was open until late so our catch up with friends only ended when we were ready. Already booked a return catch up for next year!

Really nice hotel in a perfect location to explore Cardiff. Plenty of pubs and restaurants near by. The hotel itself is lovely, the rooms are clean. The only downfall was our room was right across from a nightclub which stayed open until about 4am, so if you like sleep I wouldn't stay here lol.

Called in for the Hendricks Afternoon Tea, which was decent enough, but nothing particularly special. The scones were tasty and the gin cocktail was refreshing, but the sandwiches were a little bland and the sweet selection was underwhelming in terms of quality. The staff, however, were friendly and helpful. We were sat in the busy bar area rather than the restaurant/terrace area, which took away from the experience. It all felt a bit rushed and casual. I don't think it's particularly good value given the setting and the quality of food.

Okay hotel in the centre of Cardiff. Useful for the Castle, Museum etc. The rooms are okay but nothing special. The public areas are beginning to get tatty with cracked floors in the lift, faded please pictures and all a bid dowdy. The service could do with some improvement. A tray from room service was in the corridor when we arrived in the afternoon and still there after we left. The breakfast is reasonably priced at £12.50 for such a hotel, it is a buffet style. The bar food is also reasonably priced and okay quality. Drinks prices are not too bad, about £5 per pint.

Love this hotel. Location is great and staff very friendly. Can be a bit noisy due to the clubs nearby until early hours, so don't book if you plan an early night! Bit we didn't so it was great.

A good hotel I booked a room but upgraded to a junior suite upon arrival. A decent suite; it came with both a lovely bathtub and separate walk in shower though the shower head was fixed to the side wall and could not be tilted which was a big let down for me, If it had tsunami shower it would have been much much better, cubicle could also have been a bit more spacious. I also noticed the drainage was blocked a bit as water pooled in the shower floor quickly and I used my fingers to clear it a bit which in hindsight was a bad idea health wise. I really enjoyed relaxing in the bathtub. I also called concierge to let them know, though on my first call the phone was picked up and then put down without saying any thing. I called again later and it was answered, I explained the situation and they promptly sent someone to fix it but by then I think my hand done most of the work already. The guy who came to have a look with a plunger aka unblocker in his hand was a friendly and professional guy. I also got myself locked out of my room by mistake and the lovely cleaning lady who was there helped me back in. Lovely quiet air-conditioned suite with beautiful mirrors though my comfy bed made a bit noise on occasions. Also I wished my suite had a river view not the high street view. Overall staff were friendly and professional and service was good. Hotel itself was a good hotel with spacious rooms and halls. I do recommend this hotel.

Highly recomend afternoon cream tea with family. Staff so friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and great value. Staff really amenable for the kids ' tastes. Restaurant manager is a great guy, always very welcoming. Love it. Definitely going again, especially around the Xmas build up

Stayed a few times now, great sized rooms even the "smaller" ones, plenty big and bathrooms are generous size as well. Recent stay I was upgraded to a suite, they are huge, I was travelling solo so rattled around in the room. Room was spotless and clean, minor issue in bathroom but overall 95% room service clearly looking after the rooms. Let down by the shabby looking corridor I had to traverse which was littered with hotel paraphernalia, walls that could use more than a lick of paint and doors that I likely need a tetanus shot after touching (I alcohol gel cleaned afterwards)....real shame given the room was so clean and tidy. Reception were great as well, super efficient, pleasant, polite and professional at check-in and check-out. I didn't grab photos but I would stay again as the location is amazing for sure.

I only stayed one night but would definitely stay again. It’s a lovely welcoming atmosphere . Great rooms and breakfast. The staff were extremely helpful and kind. I particularly wanted to mention Daniela Tone and her male Co worker on the night shift. Apologies I didn’t get his name. They were helpful when I had managed to lose some belongings. All turned out ok thanks to them and their patience and understanding.

Enjoyed our 2 night stay here. We were considerately put at the back of the hotel to avoid the nightclub noise and the room was really nice. Clean, high ceilings, quiet, with a comfy bed. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and food and service were great. Highly recommend the Lamb rack. My only criticism was that the Aircon wasn't working in the room but there was a fan supplied which was quiet. Otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to return.

To see my partners face light up when the staff told her the breakfast is an entire gluten free buffet (her first since being diagnosed as coeliac) was great. They take extra care of your allergen sensitive customers, have proper drills in place to prevent cross contamination and so forth its really good. On top of that the hotel itself is a very relaxed vibe, great rooms, lovely pool/spa, quality stay.

We had a great stay with friendly staff. The breakfast was delicious, and they serve hot chocolate, but you do have to ask for it, but its available. The spa facilities were lovely and I enjoyed the swimming pool.

Brilliant hotel, with nice rooms to offer. Late check-in too, which makes it easy to rock-up for whenever. Lovely breakfast, with polite staff. Location is convenient, for it both being not right on the city centre, so it's loud, however it's a casual 5 minute walk, to St Davids.

We really enjoyed our stay at park plaza, the room was spacious and clean, we especially loved the pool facilities and how close the hotel was to the shopping centres. The only downfall was that we spent over half an hour trying to check in as there were no clean rooms for us- in the end a lovely trainee checked us in, however we did find that some of the other receptionists were being quite rude to the trainee when he was unsure and asking questions, which we found quite unprofessional. Without the bad start I would definitely leaving a 5* review- great experience overall.

Family celebration. Meal was excellent and the staff were very friendly. Only down side, hence the 4 stars, was the lighting in the room. It was a little too dark for me. I dont like overhead lighting to be bright but this was too dark for me. I would have scored 5 starts but for this.

The best hotel restaurant in the city, always delivers whether it's afternoon tea, Sunday lunch or a Saturday night out. Great cooking and excellent service. While it is annoyingly and unnecessarily gendered, the Gentleman's afternoon tea is the best on offer - good range of cakes and savouries. Worth a visit just for that. Sunday lunch is generous and great value for three courses. The bar is good for cocktails too.

This gets a 3 star because that is what it is, a 3 star establishment. Whilst it's marketed as a 4 star it has the look, feel and service of a 3 star but a 4 star price tag. Beds were comfortable, rooms practical but decor dated and worn. Staff were accommodating. The pool was basic. Shallow at 1.2m throughout, extremely salty and crowded. Steam room was out of service... Jacuzzi was 8 person max but extremely crowded at all times. Changing rooms were in poor condition e.g. rusty or broken lockers. In summary, nothing majorly wrong but nothing majorly right. The price point brings the rating down. Average to the core.

10/10 for comfort, but if you have a room facing Greyfriars road forget being able to sleep. 2 night clubs opposite. It gets so noisy and busy they block the road off

  • 3/5 Ling L. 2 years ago on Google
Not a 4-star hotel, it was at best a 3-star hotel. The service at the reception was not friendly enough for a 4-star hotel and the staff looked disinterested in their jobs. You'd expect more than just the simple shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and soap for a 4-star hotel. Most of the hotel facilities were outdated. They no longer looked as nice and well maintained as shown in the pictures, especially the swimming pool and the changing room. The water also had a weirdly salty taste. On the upside, the floor and bed were not creaky and the bed was relatively comfortable, apart from the extremely soft pillows. Overall, we paid a good price for the hotel so it wasn't too bad. There's nothing too good or terrible about this hotel.

  • 2/5 Jeremy H. 2 years ago on Google
Room didn't match the booking sadly. It was nice enough but the booking promised a "tree line view" however we ended up looking in to a courtyard with great views, only for other guests - and in to our room. There seemed to be a breakdown in communication between the restaurant and the bar. By the time cocktails arrived (after we'd had to chase them) the ice cubes had melted. Disappointing when you consider how much we paid for a room and dinner. Sub-par.

Stayed 3 nights, couldn't fault the room itself, clean, tidy, spacious etc. However.... When we arrived to check in we were overcharged £50 and had a surprise spoiled for our honeymoon, this was subsequently refunded. The cake delivered in the room was also a happy birthday one rather than congratulations which did add some humour. I also had to ask the person in the room next door to stop playing his trombone this afternoon (half term woes) The real dissapointment was the amount of children in the spa and the total lack of relaxation for a spa hotel. Especially having chosen this one for a wind down break away. Wouldn't stay again.

My stay at the Park Plaza Cardiff Hotel was a relaxing solo trip. The staff were lovely and my Hotel room was comfortable. The bed was so comfortable and my room was quite. I noted stains in the carpet and there was confetti around the lamp area of the bed side, which meant it was from a previous stay. The breakfast was palatable, however the buffet presentation was dated, with serving utensils on slates. There is a 20 meter pool and a lovely steam room and hot tub. I rated my stay 3 out of 5 because, one of the lifts broke down, and two days of my stay, there was only one lift operating Otherwise, overall, an enjoyable stay

Brilliant reception staff and area. Very clean and well kept throughout hotel. Lighting always spot on. Breakfast always nice. Great cappuccinos. Top marks on swimming pool. Great cleaners only bad point is untrained bar staff, slow and unattentive, with poorly stocked bar. But still 5 star we can't wait to come back.

We went to the spa for an afternoon tea and for two treatments each, with use of other steam room/pool facilities. We were blown away by the awesome service. My facial and back and shoulders massage was by an incredibly talented professional, Rachel, she really took her time to ensure I was comfortable and helped my knots and found them straight away without me having to point them out! Facial was the most relaxing facial I've ever experienced. We visited for a Hen Weekend and what a wonderful surprise. Such top notch service at Laguna Spa at the Park Plaza. Thanks to the team for making it an AWESOME afternoon.

Our stay at Park Plaza in Cardiff did not start well. The room was not clean, there were coffee stains behind the curtains, the bathroom was dirty and it needed to be vacuumed better. The cleaners weren't available. We were promised that the cleaners would come at 09.00 whilst we would swim. Yet, they only came sometime in the afternoon. This was very disappointing. The pool and the steam room is lovely, especially for adults. The pool is quite cold for the kids though!! The highlight of our stay was the breakfast. Kelly was absolutely amazing, she was very friendly, sweet and absolutely went out of her way to make it a delight particularly for the kids! She is amazing and the reason I am writing this review and giving it a 4 star rather than a 3!

Really nice stay in Central Cardiff. Right by the shops and bars. Nice walk through the city centre to get your bearings. Room was clean, equipped, rubbish view but no worries. Restaurant was good for breakfast plenty of choice. Good staff. Can't really fault it. Well done PP!

Staff excellent. Helpful friendly and professional. We stayed in the superior room on the quieter side of the hotel. Rooms are on the basic side - no frills really but the bed was comfortable and slept well

The staff are very friendly and helpful the pool and spa area is clean and the staff are very attentive. Lovely restaurant and bar area with out side area. There is no parking at the hotel only drop off. But directly across the road is a ncp parking.

Stayed one night on a Friday. Nice comfy room and pleasant staff. One word of warning, if you have a room at the front of the hotel expect a lot of noise from the bar opposite and people on the street. Try to book a room at the back. Lovely bar with nice atmosphere. Parking is at the NCP car park opposite which is a great location but will cost you roughly £23 per day with hotel discount.

Comfortable. Nice and tidy. Little/no sound bleed from other rooms. Breakfast had spent too long under a heat lamp and coffee was pretty harsh instant, I'd say. Was also attending a course and staff were a bit slow to react.

The staff was incredible, in every department, and extremely polite. The room was very clean and the bed is very comfy. No noise coming from outside or from the corridor. Thanks for everything especially to the breakfast manager!

Great hotel. Large rooms with even larger beds. Very comfortable. Only limited vegan choices for breakfast. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Especially the breakfast staff.

Absolutely lovely hotel. Great room. Great room service! And the best bit? Plus size friendly bath and towels. Makes such a difference for a big bodied person to not feel like they’re drying off with a flannel. Will definitely be back.
