Bedbugs.
Avoid.
[Amended
2023-01-29:
The
hotel
director
contacted
me
after
I
posted
my
review
and
feedback.
According
to
them,
the
pest
control
company
reported
that
they
believed
there
was
not
a
long-term
infestation
of
bedbugs,
but
rather
an
isolated
incident
that
they
had
caught
relatively
early.
i.e.
that
my
mother
and
I
were
unlucky
enough
to
be
the
first
victims.
At
the
director's
request,
I've
removed
the
word
"infested"
from
the
subject
of
this
review,
and
added
this
note.]
I
took
my
elderly
mother
to
stay
at
New
House
Country
Hotel
over
Christmas
2022,
as
a
treat.
The
location
and
the
18th
century
building
are
lovely,
and
exactly
the
kind
of
thing
she
likes,
and
the
staff
seem
nice.
Unfortunately,
none
of
that
matters.
Our
stay
was
completely
ruined
because
my
bedroom
had
a
serious
bedbug
infestation.
I
woke
up
in
the
middle
of
the
night
due
to
painfully
intense
itching,
to
find
my
skin
covered
in
bites,
to
the
point
where
I
looked
like
a
smallpox
victim.
Throwing
back
the
covers,
I
managed
to
catch
one
of
the
bugs,
which
I
showed
to
the
night
manager
who
immediately
arranged
a
different
room.
I
encountered
bedbugs
when
I
lived
in
Africa
as
a
child,
so
I
had
some
idea
what
was
happening,
and
recognised
the
bug
when
I
caught
it.
When
we
checked
out,
I
found
that
the
hotel
had
discounted
my
room
for
one
of
the
two
nights
we
stayed.
After
I
showed
the
receptionist
the
bites
on
my
arm,
she
looked
horrified
and
immediately
discounted
my
room
for
the
other
night.
As
far
as
the
hotel
bill
is
concerned,
this
is
fine.
But,
as
I
told
the
receptionist,
what
I
wanted
more
than
the
money
was
an
apology
from
the
management
of
the
hotel.
She
took
my
details
and
told
me
the
director
would
be
in
touch.
This
has
not
happened.
All
of
the
front-line
staff
I
dealt
with
were
lovely,
and
very
eager
to
resolve
the
situation.
That
doesn't
alter
the
fact
that
whoever
actually
runs
the
place
has
allowed
a
serious
infestation
to
occur,
presumably
by
not
paying
enough
attention
to
hygiene.
Although
we
thought
at
first
that
only
my
room
was
affected,
my
mother's
skin
also
erupted
with
bites
after
we
had
checked
out,
so
at
least
the
adjacent
room
also
has
bedbugs.
At
no
point
has
anyone
from
the
hotel's
management
contacted
me
about
this,
either
during
my
stay
(which
was
over
Christmas,
so
this
can
be
forgiven),
or
afterwards.
