Bedbugs. Avoid. [Amended 2023-01-29: The hotel director contacted me after I posted my review and feedback. According to them, the pest control company reported that they believed there was not a long-term infestation of bedbugs, but rather an isolated incident that they had caught relatively early. i.e. that my mother and I were unlucky enough to be the first victims. At the director's request, I've removed the word "infested" from the subject of this review, and added this note.] I took my elderly mother to stay at New House Country Hotel over Christmas 2022, as a treat. The location and the 18th century building are lovely, and exactly the kind of thing she likes, and the staff seem nice. Unfortunately, none of that matters. Our stay was completely ruined because my bedroom had a serious bedbug infestation. I woke up in the middle of the night due to painfully intense itching, to find my skin covered in bites, to the point where I looked like a smallpox victim. Throwing back the covers, I managed to catch one of the bugs, which I showed to the night manager who immediately arranged a different room. I encountered bedbugs when I lived in Africa as a child, so I had some idea what was happening, and recognised the bug when I caught it. When we checked out, I found that the hotel had discounted my room for one of the two nights we stayed. After I showed the receptionist the bites on my arm, she looked horrified and immediately discounted my room for the other night. As far as the hotel bill is concerned, this is fine. But, as I told the receptionist, what I wanted more than the money was an apology from the management of the hotel. She took my details and told me the director would be in touch. This has not happened. All of the front-line staff I dealt with were lovely, and very eager to resolve the situation. That doesn't alter the fact that whoever actually runs the place has allowed a serious infestation to occur, presumably by not paying enough attention to hygiene. Although we thought at first that only my room was affected, my mother's skin also erupted with bites after we had checked out, so at least the adjacent room also has bedbugs. At no point has anyone from the hotel's management contacted me about this, either during my stay (which was over Christmas, so this can be forgiven), or afterwards.

We recently got married at New House Country Hotel, and they help make it the best day ever. The whole process was so smooth and easy from initial contact, to menu tasting, to the actual day. We really couldn't have asked for more. Steve as Master of Ceremony and his team were great throughout and made the day run perfectly, they were so accommodating were needed and did everything they could to make our day perfect. They run a very well executed operation and you can tell they are experts in the process. The Hotel itself is stunning along with the wedding marquee, the food was delicious. We really could not have asked for more.

Had the best overnight stay here on a Sunday evening to celebrate my birthday. A member of staff called Tom was very helpful, professional and courteous throughout our stay. The dining experience turned out to be just ourselves sat on a table by the fire which was a beautiful touch and very atmospheric. The hotel was stunning and so was its view overlooking Cardiff. I felt extremely lucky and the stay couldn’t have gone much better. Would definitely come back here again.

We had a wedding here a couple months ago and it was just the best day. The beautiful scenery definitely won us over to book our big day here. The staff were super helpful and were all smiley on the day which made me feel happy. The timings were spot on and they accommodated us if we ever asked for something. The food tasted great and their drinks are reasonably priced. Just one minor thing, they unfortunately threw all our wedding cake away at the end of the night! We were devastated. Perhaps you could offer tupperware or mention to us about it so we were aware? Overall, great location for a wedding - definitely would recommend!

This is a superb place to stay set down a lane to where you drive up to beautiful views of the mountains on one side with the city directly in front with the sea behind that.rooms were very clean and spacious, the service was second to none the staff done a amazing job keeping everybody happy and going out off there way to help with no fuss at all. Breakfast was plentiful of choice. (This was a wedding event and guest spoke very highly of venue)would highly recommend for any occasion.

Lovely hotel. Fantastic room. The only issue was the shower wasn't very hot. The food was amazing.

Beautiful hotel & surroundings. However stayed for 1 night b & b in December for works party. Couldn’t fault the room, however Christmas dinner was very poor. Gin & tonic served in half pint madri glass, My husband also had his red wine in half pint glass. No lemon or limes!!! Breakfast was very poor. Had to ask for a pot of tea as no one came over, then had to get up to ask for cups & saucers, cutlery & butter. ( I had to get up a total of 4 times before I could sit and eat Service was shocking. I’m leaving review as I contacted the hotel twice regarding our stay but they have completely ignored my comments. Definitely would not go back.!!!!

We always stay for special occasions like Birthdays or Anniversarys, sometimes over Christmas or New year, the views are breathtaking and it's like a haven away from city life, if you want to chill out away from the world, with lovely food & a few drinks, this is the place for you, also an excellent wedding venue.

We have just had a delightful two night stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it. It is set in stunning countryside with incredible views from the terrace. The room we had was amazing, very large with every comfort and the bonus of french doors that opened out onto our own seating area with views of Cardiff bay. We ate in the restaurant which was very nice with a good menu. If we return to Cardiff we would definitely chose to stay here again.

I came here as a wedding photographer and was nothing but impressed with this venue. From the stunning grounds, to the really nice accommodation to the wonderful staff, this venue has everything to offer and as a wedding supplier, coming here was a great experience and I was made to feel very welcome indeed.

Amazing location, my Son and new Daughter-in-law had the full service there and we conot have asked for a more beautiful setting and grounds. My only down point is that the Marquee is uphill by steps and was a bit of a struggle for me but once I wS up there, it was definitely worth the effort 👌

Attended a wedding a short distance from the hotel so decided to stay overnight. Beautiful hotel with lots of period features and the views are amazing

Stayed from 26th June until 30th June. Lovely setting lovely hotel, but dated decor. The hotel is supposed to have parking for guests, but don't pick a night to stay if there are multifunctions. The car park becomes a free for all and guest parking is not available. Cars parked on grass verges. Large stones put her and there which become dangerous when trying to navigate. Taxis within an inch of your car trying to reverse out. Kids running about. Adults drinking and swaying. Bottles and glasses dumped under trees! A complete stressful nightmare. We paid for a superior room, but you had to stand in the bath to open the window. The toilet was free standing but was positioned so low you were squatting! The toilet roll was behind you and looked as though it had been pulled off! Continental breakfast selection poor. It was all about profit, the priority were the wedding guests and function guests. Will not stay again.

I stay in lots of hotels and this one ticks all the boxes, lovely views, great ambience and character, friendly and attentive staff, excellent food... and all this combined with value for money... 😁

Visited the hotel to meet friends for coffee and drinks etc. We were made very welcome despite not being residents.

Dirty windowsill and window frame. Corners on the bathroom floor were much the same. The breakfast was well below what was expected, had far better in similar hotels. Definitely won't return.

Went to a family wedding here and what a venue!! The grounds are gorgeous, and the rooms are lovely, spacious and very comfortable! We also had an outdoor seating area that was private and ideal for a chill in the fresh air. Truly, the rooms were excellent quality and not too expensive either. Staff were helpful and accommodating, and my partner and I had a wonderful time! I should also mention the view of Cardiff City from the front of the property - never knew such a view of the city existed! Ideal opportunity for photos, or just lovely to look at. The grounds generally serve well for wedding photos. We also had breakfast the next day, which was so needed after a day of celebrations and, let's be honest, drinking. Generous portions and tasty! If you wanted more, you got more. All round great experience

Beautiful hotel that we stayed at for a friend's wedding. The view alone is worth going. The staff was friendly, the rooms were nice, and breakfast was lovely in the morning. One of the most picturesque locations I've ever been to.

Stopped here for one evening had travelled 6 hours to get to Cardiff for an event. Lovely surroundings and staff very pleasant however the day was very warm . Our room only had two windows for ventilation and due to how wide the opening were we had to close the windows due to be relatively close to the ground floor and everyone could see in from the wedding venue above which one the curtains were closed made the room into a sauna. As we were on a tight schedule we we just got changed and ran out. Then we returned the window had locked up leaving one window all night for ventilation but could not leave curtains open as people were still awake on the grounds. At this point room was like an oven. Went to have a cold shower but the shower was set on hot and wouldn't allow you to adjust. We were only here for one day and that was sufficient. I'm aware the building is old and harder to fir Aircon however belive a fan should of been left in the room as was a hot and sweaty mess all night. Few pointers for management if they respond the windows need to be looked at and as much as the rooms are stunning would of benefited from a net curtain which would of allowed ventilation while giving privacy and the shower was just one setting. That was too hot. That been said sleeping was OK not the best but beds comfy and breakfast was really nice.

Due to the humidity of our room and the uncomfortable mattresses, we didn’t have a good nights sleep. The exterior of the property is beautiful and the views are lovely.

I went to spend a few days with real fires, great food beautiful rooms and a quiet getaway with my mum . The house looks very beautiful. The whole place is very clean and service with a smile was at reception the bars and the dining area. A special shout out to the housekeepers who were quick quiet and super . We had a standard room and it came with an outside area and an astounding view over the valley . The bathroom was lovely too. A shower and a bath in the bathroom of room 6 is of a really good standard. Beds were comfortable slightly firm. Plenty of storage and lovely dog inspired art as well as local art and a lovely glossy book about the local area Takes about 20 minutes to drive into Cardiff . Decent WiFi speed but you would have difficulty depending on it in some areas . Staff were able to have a little personality showing and looked out for each other. This was lovely to see and something above the corporate extra formal uniforms. Super professional reception staff they were always able to help. it was lovely to see the more experienced looking out for the newer staff when needed. My mum loves to ask questions and they tried their best to answer! The food was drop dead gorgeous. I loved the festive menu for dinner. The wines were well paired too. They kept my wine from one night for the next. You would spend more at the Miller carter down the road than here. Go hungry as the portions were great too!

Wonderful location with superb views. I must admit being somewhat disappointed with the welcome, the person who checked us in was somewhat sullen both on arrival and the next day. Other staff though were friendly and professional. Whilst the room was visibly immaculate, there was a 'damp' smell within, otherwise comfortable. Highlight was the food in the restaurant in the evening though breakfast was somewhat dry/overcooked, perhaps owing to the volume with wedding guests present from the previous day. I really wanted to love this place, not quite there sadly.

What a beautiful hotel, superb grounds. The room we had was huge, and value for money. Had issues with the radiator the first night (noisy) but it got sorted after reporting. Just be aware if there is a wedding on it can get a bit rowdy after hours. Other than that great place to stay and explore the Brecons

Our stay at the new house has been very special, can’t thank all the staff enough for everything they’ve done for us, such amazing people. The room was phenomenal! Nicest room we’ve ever stayed in, absolutely spotless. Food was exceptional, real fine dining experience. Will definitely return! Highly recommend staying here.

Rooms were clean and spacious. Bed was comfortable. Decor a little dated but not a major problem. Gym was small but empty so a massive plus for me. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of healthy eating (or not if you prefer that). We had one meal in the restaurant and both of us enjoyed our food. Staff were helpful and friendly. Parking is great. The outstanding location really makes this hotel stand out with amazing views and dining on the terrace to enjoy them. We would stay here again.

We had a fantastic stay at The New House. The hotel strikes the balance well between contemporary and traditional, and has far reaching views across Cardiff. The staff were perfectly attentive throughout and we left rejuvenated and keen to return. Well done team!!

We had our wedding reception at the New House 25 years ago so I admit I have a bit of a 'soft spot for this beautiful hotel. We stayed for three nights and all the staff couldn't do enough, even when we wanted to stay an extra night (there were no rooms left that could accommodate our dog) reception and housekeeping worked their magic and made it happen. Every day we were there a wedding took place and it just added a vibrancy and joy to our whole stay. Our son loved taking our dog for long walks in the grounds and we all slept soundly after an excellent evening meal. It's our first choice hotel whenever we return to Cardiff. You just can't beat it.

We received 2 vouchers from our goddaughter for 3 course Sunday Lunch and we were not disappointed. We both had smoked salmon to start and that was beautiful. Our server recommended the Blade of Beef as the main and that was one of nicest most tender pieces of beef we have ever eaten. Our dessert was one lemon tart with strawberry sorbet and one trio of different ice creams and sorbet - fabulous. We ate outside under a semi permanent gazebo and there was always a cooling breeze for a sweltering hot day. Thank you so much to everyone who made our visit to you so wonderful. Very posh and stylish. Not my cup of tea to be honest but fantastic place for weddings or other special events. Food was banging but not what I'm used to. However was nice for a change. Staff was friendly and polite. Think this place is a little out of my league when I'm used to the local rugby club. Would definitely recommend this place if you want to impress someone special.

Work event on anti racism took place here. Lovely grounds and environment. The buffet was fantastic the amount if vegan and vegetarian options and choice. This is the best vegan buffet I have ever had. Even the vegan bacon and cheese wraps. Excellent would return.

Beautiful hotel set over looking the city spectacular views, the hotel is very welcoming you notice this just walking up to the reception, grated by friendly attentive staff were nothing is too much to ask of them, evening menu is really nice food very well presented, breakfast is probably one of the best I have had in a long time, I'd definitely recommend this hotel and I'd stay here again.

After spending just a night at this beautiful hotel, I feel compelled to share my experience. What an amazing place. With views of Cardiff and the River Severn you can expect great photos for a start. The customer service is second to none. The food is outstanding. The rooms are luxurious and clean, the hotel in general reminded me of boutique hotels in London, quaint and warm, cosy and homely. It’s a must do if your looking to stay in the area. Will be back! Thank you.

Stayed here for a friends wedding and would 100% come again. A few reviews here make reference to old/dated rooms but ours was really modern, spotlessly clean. Delicious breakfast the next day. Marquee was really lovely and well stocked bar through the night. Very much worth the price.

Our Wedding Day Throughout our wedding planning experience, the New House Country Hotel was fantastic, answering questions and helping us to bring our dream wedding to life. Our day was absolutely magical, like a beautiful dream. And everyone loved the venue, especially the views! Our rooms were perfect and we can't thank the New House enough. What a perfect wedding venue!

Brilliant venue, huge marquee and such fun and friendly staff. We had the duck to start and lamb for main and it was to die for. Table service top notch and never felt like you were asking for too much. Drinks an extremely reasonable price as well.

Oh we just love it. Chosen wedding venue for August 2023. We stayed the night for wedding food tasting and wow. The room was just perfect. Spacious, decor fitted the venue. The view just wow. Waking up to misty surroundings and sheep in the field, perfect. So peaceful, perfect. The drive down to New house is spectacular, takes you away from the busy life that's not to far away giving views of surrounding fields and city in the distance. The whole venue is like something out of a fairytale, so calm and relaxed. No matter where you stand to take pictures it's perfect. Staff are so lovely, helpful and friendly. The food is amazing. Honestly. We are so so excited to have this wonderful venue for our wedding and to share it with our loved ones is priceless. Roll on August. Thank you all so much Natalie & Rhys X
