The Inferno's Mouth is well dubbed. Around sunset, what looks like a few jagged rocks with mild waves, starts swelling and rising and crashing, pushing into the tunnel that has been created after thousands of years of erosion. The energy that the ocean has is palpable and minute by minute it gets more and more aggressive. It is awesome, in the purest form of the words definition. There are plenty of safe places for people to stand to watch this incredible performance. A distance away there is a peninsula with a pier that starts signaling its light -- posing some incredible scenes for picture-taking. Although it was the end of June, the place was not packed and it was easy to walk around to find scenic photogenic angles. There is no cost associated with attending this fine show and plenty of places to park. It is also surrounded by multiple restaurants and is a skip and a hop to Cascais. Beware of those selling souvenirs - they are bad quality and four times more expansive than in other places. If you're in the area, I definitely encourage you to visit Lucifer's jagged mouth. Also, if you look closely at my pictures, you will see a dragon (or is it just me) herding the waves into the mouth!

(Translated by Google) The fascinating Boca do Inferno is a unique formation in the rocks by the ocean and is one of the most famous visit points in Cascais. It is believed that in the past this place would have been a cave, whose exuberance results from the union between its natural beauty and the rough sea. Currently, Boca do Inferno is an open pit, with a kind of arch through which sea water enters. The name given to this place is due to the morphological analogy and the frightening and tremendous impact of the waves that are felt there, even rising in a white foam with tens of meters.

Guarded by countless laughing seagulls, the „Mouth Of Hell“ is one of the most beautiful landmarks near Lisbon. Completely designed by nature with its infallible hand, the area is presenting itself with a rough charm which is created when the sea and the wind as bride and groom come together to meet their best man, the rocks of a coast line. Over millions of years the natural forces created the shapes one can see today. The waves keeping on coming restless and powerful, pressing through the mouth into the basin you’re looking into when standing on the edge of the cliff. When you get lucky, the weather will be just fine. With a deeply blue sky of a color you will find nowhere else around the world. And bright sunshine, which lets the foaming water look like dusted with countless little gems. Look and take in this endlessness of the ocean. Breathe deeply and get a sense of what it is like to inhale the sunlight. Then close your eyes. And just listen: what the flooding and ebbing waves got to tell you. Whatever it may be, the seagulls will keep on laughing. At all of it.

If you are in the area, it is worth a visit but I found the walk from the Citadel to this spot more interesting. Make sure to visit the Casa de Santa Maria and the lighthouse. The river/see along the way is also stunning.

Stunning and very picturesque. Beautiful view and cave formation. The small town is also very nice with other things to see there. We use bolt from lisbon and back, which was affordable and saved time. A must-see if you are planning to to visit lisbon.

Wonderful natural landscape! Magnificent wild beauty! It is worth visiting and admiring the wonder of nature. Very expensive area with a few shops nearby. It had toilets near the road but you paid.

Stopped enroute to Cascais Town. Brilliant place to stop and view coastal erosion. Steps going down quite steep and slippy so be mindful. Good views out to sea 🌊

Beautiful place to visit. Nature was very generous to build something like this. It's easy to access the rocks, has stairs to help the walk to where you can take some good pictures and sit to enjoy the sunset. And you can walk just a couple of minutes and find interesting restaurants. The parking is public in the street, it's paid but very accessible.

What an amazing place! Wow! One of the best experiences you will get in Cascais. The magnificence of nature, the power of existence, pure fearful feeling. It's you, and mother nature there to remind you how strong she is. The best sunset experience you will get. It's beautiful and scary at the same time. There was one guy playing saxophone, so it was even more touching. The moth of the Hell. It can be slippery on the rocks, so watch your steps. I recommend this beauty to all who want to se something extraordinary.

Great place to see Cascais waterfront view. If you managed to visit during high tides or rough sea, then views will be more beautiful. Very easy walk, weekdays are best. Not too far from Lisbon, take train from there, then a small walk from town, we really enjoyed our walk around Cascais city. It’s a good place for taking photos, try to come early to skip the crowd

Really cool spot to watch the waves. If you’re visiting you gotta spend an hour here for sure. There’s bathrooms and little spots to shop around close by. Parking is pretty accesible along the main road as well.

Very cool place, we came back here a couple of years ago, and I also came here when I was about 1 or 2 years old. You can get very close to the water (be cautious) and see the waves hit the rocks. In the wintertime, it's even more crazier, I even think they close it off due to how dangerous it can be. None of the less area is cool and nice to visit.

Within walking distance from Cascai. You can also take a bus there. We walked both ways. The sound of the crashing waves is interesting to hear and watch.

A good spot to take pictures of the sea and the rocks. It's a 15-minute walk from the city center. Since it's well located, people tend to rent bikes, take the bus,Buscas for example, and walk to get there. There are a couple of restaurants, a café and an ice cream place right next to it.

If you are in Cascais, you should visit Boca do Inferno. Beautiful place, and amazing sunset!

  • 5/5 Kasia S. 4 years ago on Google
Interesting place to see. You can really see the power of the ocean here. Unfortunately, as in such a place, there are usually a lot of people. In close proximity there are toilets and a few pubs - but no revelations. There is a bus stop nearby, and there are parking spaces for private cars. If you are close you should come and see!

  • 5/5 Joel N. 4 years ago on Google
Beautiful natural site on the coast in Cascais, a short walk from the train station. The waves come rolling in from the Atlantic unabated and are funneled into this natural open-air grotto, which creates quite the kinetic and frothy scene as the waves hit the rocks. There are a few amenities (snack bars, restaurants, and gelato) on site if you want to stay a while and watch.

  • 3/5 Lee A. 4 years ago on Google
People flock here for sunset which is fine but you can't really get down low as its too dangerous. You are really better off going a mile or two further west and watching the waves smash against the rocks which is far more exhilarating. Im probably too old - judging by the youngsters we saw it's probably a good place to snog your girl/boys face off.

  • 5/5 Alina G. 4 years ago on Google
Rocks and ocean make a great impression. You feel freedom and love there. As for me one of the best places to visit if you are in Portugal.

  • 5/5 Dawn A. 4 years ago on Google
What a place to watch the sunset. Amazing ?There is a little shop there and a bar and restaurant but lots of people take a bottle and air and watch the view. Can get a little crowded so if you just want to see the sun, head down the road a bit where there are less people.

Drove all the way out here to find that this attraction is only worth it if the right tide and wind is in place. We came here when we could and it was low tide with basically no waves. Not worth it.

Really cool spot to visit. Due to covid19, there is a maximum amount of people allowed on a platform to see the entrance of the water through the rocks, but I think that it could be better seen from points close to the road, instead of close to the ocean.

Baco do Inferno is easily to reach by foot from Cascais. It’s a nice walk and not that far. Free natural attraction about a 25 minute walk from the city center, which is picturesque all on its own. The formation is very cool, would have been even cooler if it was high tide. Plenty of beautiful pictures of the formation and sea to be taken, also some cafes to eat and drink at as well as shops to wander

It’s Portuguese name makes it a curiosity that cannot be avoided ‘The entrance to hell’ - in reality it really does play up to its name when the ocean is angry and the tide is high. It’s at this point that you see it come to life. Definitely a place worth visiting in the Cascais area. Plenty parking and food and drinks available too.

  • 5/5 Gareth T. 1 year ago on Google
A spectacular beauty spot, on the coastal rocks just outside the center of Cascais, past the fort and Marina. When the sea is a little rough the waves crash up inside the natural cove and provide a wonderful flume and spray display. Well worth a nice walkup the coastal road.

It’s definitely one of my favourite places in Grande Lisboa area - one of 100 beautiful places in Portugal! You can stay here for hours, watching the ocean and waves fighting with rocks and creating beautiful patterns on them. The nature is absolutely stunning here - you can spot some cute birds and plants as well Sometimes you have a lot of people here, but you can always walk along the edge to find yourself a place of peace and quiet It’s possible that the site was an ancient cave With all of its unique characteristics, Boca do Inferno is a place where you can enjoy a divine landscape and magnificent sunsets It’s interesting that even Portuguese wiki says that it’s a magnificent place that can be “overshadowed by not rare suicides committed on its dangerous and unprotected cliff”. It sounds not very romantic, but it’s true Anyways, the site is absolutely beautiful here and I love this place

Okay view of cliffs near the coastline. There are also some shops and bars near for shopping and relaxing. For people looking for an adventure, you can swim to some great spots. Ofcourse, this is on your on risk... While the location is fine, due to the close proximity of Cascais, it's might be worthwhile to drop by.

Boca do inferno is a must-see in Cascais. It is easily reached on foot (about a 25-minute walk from the train station) along the coast, so it is absolutely pleasant. The best time to go there is from January to April, when it is not too crowded and you can enjoy the beauty of the place. There are bars and restaurants around there at moderate prices. Even if you are afraid of heights, don't worry, the place is very safe. Absolutely recommended is the sunset. Use suitable shoes, especially if you choose to go all the way down, the rocks are always wet and therefore slippery. Enjoy!

Mostly a well organized little sea side resort with amazing views of the North Atlantic. Weather was amazing and quite a good variety of places to eat and drink. Small down point though was lack of cash machines in proximity- not all the vendors took card payments.

Beautiful place to visit if you are naturistic and love to watch the ocean waves. You can take a train fron Lisbon to Cascias, from there you can either take a bus or walk for 20 minutes. I recommend walking, the streets are super nice and peaceful. The only downside is it can get crowded.

It's a stunning natural place, they call also the "Mouth of Hell." It is a rugged coastal formation consisting of cliffs and a narrow chasm where the Atlantic Ocean crashes with dramatic force. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the turbulent sea and take in the natural beauty of this awe-inspiring location. Boca do Inferno is a popular spot for tourists and photographers, offering a unique and picturesque experience along the Portuguese coastline.

  • 5/5 Albert A. 7 months ago on Google
Nice place to relax and take in the scenery, watching the local fisherman enjoying the day fishing. Nice place to take in a few pictures, enjoy locals (expats) showing their art and jewelry display. There is a small restaurant and also a small shop for drinks or ice cream and other trinkets. Be careful with the cliffs of you have little ones or unstable adults.

About 30 minutes walk from the centre of Cascais. Head towards the Citadel and then follow the coast road. Interesting natural wonder... Good spot for photos. Coastal views. Tourist cafes if you need refreshments. If you plan to visit the Michelin star restaurant nearby then you will need to book ahead.

Love this historical place just outside Cascais town centre. Beautiful walk/bike ride there and back and the scenery is amazing. Free to visit but do be careful in adverse weather as the rocks/steps can get slippery.

Bucket list item. This place is amazing, the sound of the crashing waves against the rock, is amazing, hypnotizing. Nature's strength at its best. Is little far from town but worth the walk.

🫤 It was the worst bowling club I had ever been. Tracks had a lot glitches, one of them counted virtual ball throws, another didn't count any throws sometimes. They didn't give bowling shoes. The kitchen didn't work.

👍 It is a beautiful place, but a bit dirty. The wind blows a lot of leaves and such into the oceanic pool so it is kinda unpleasant to go in. Still, very pretty and there is a beach right by.
