I've only trained off and on weekly for a few months here, but for somebody who only just started to dip their toe into MMA and BJJ this gym is sensational. The coaches will listen to any questions you have wether they be stupid ones or well thought out and give proper advice and feedback. Even though I myself missed a bunch of fundamentals, the core foundation of having a safe and welcoming enviroment encouraged me to keep turning up, and the knowledge flows down from the coaches with the more experienced members on the lower belt colors giving excellent feedback during rolls that helped bridge my knowledge gap. Honestly this gym has sparked an obsession with Jiu Jitsu and wrestling I didn't think I would have. Cannot reccomend enough.

Courage Training Centre is not like your average gyms. This centre is something else entirely. I’ve trained here for nearly six years now and I truly wouldn’t train anywhere else. The second you step in the door you’re made to feel welcome and if you stick around long enough you’re made to feel like family. For anyone wanted to try martial arts or fitness or both, walk in the door. I promise you won’t regret it.

I dropped in for a roll while on holiday. It was a great class and I felt very welcome. As a woman dropping into gyms can be a little intimidating and you never know of reception you will get. I had fun with the only other girl there, and then had some great rolls with the men. Wound recommend for anyone, weather dropping in, cross training or wanting to learn BJJ

Easily the best kickboxing gym I have trained at. From the gym itself, to the people training here, it is absolutely the best experience I have had training. Whether you are a beginner or professional, this is the place to be. Ian, Joe and Jack are extremely knowledgeable in all things MMA and genuinely care about your progression in the sport while making sure that the lessons are enjoyable and safe. I never once saw any form of laziness or neglect from any of the coaches here. The amount of knowledge, skills and memories I have gained training here over the year makes me sad to leave. If you are looking to train in Townsville, go to Courage and you will have no regrets.

Fantastic facilities with coaching that is second to none. The timetable is so stacked full of classes you can train every day regardless of your schedule. There’s a whole community of amazing people inside dedicated to self improvement with decades of combined experience in combat sports. The place to train regardless of your skill level.

Come for the martial arts training, stay for the most supportive room of people you've ever known, leave a better person mentally and physically. I've always been interested in martial arts, being Thai and having an uncle that fought Muay Thai. It took me clicking on the courage website probably 50 times over the course of a couple of years for me to finally find the time and the courage to actually book in for a trial class. Turns out it was the best decision I've made for myself in a very long time. From a martial arts/coaching aspect, Coach Ian, Joe, Jack and Steve are all masters of their crafts and have an immense amount of knowledge to pass on. I've yet to see someone come up with a martial arts problem or a strength and conditioning problem that they couldn't solve. Being a competitive fight gym you can be sure the techniques you're learning are pressure tested and proven to work in the toughest arenas. Of even more importance for me, having now trained at courage for almost 6 months are the relationships you build as part of team courage. Everyone from the coaches to the competitive fighters to the casual MMA/fitness enthusiast that trains has been so welcoming and supportive from day 1. Everyone is genuinely invested in seeing each other grow, improve and better themselves each day. Its truly an atmosphere that has to be felt to be believed and is a true credit the man that Coach Ian is that he's created an environment where people are punching and choking each other, pushing each other to the limit but at the same time a fun and enjoyable place to be. I've never left a training session without a smile on my face (even if the smile is a little bloody). I can honestly say I've achieved more than I thought possible in my short time here, picking up new skills and techniques, getting fitter, even pushing myself to do a Jiu-Jitsu competition and doing quite well which I never thought was possible. I can't recommend Courage Training Centre enough to not only martial arts and fitness enthusiasts but to absolutely everyone. The skills and traits you develop apply to life in general not just fighting. Everyone can benefit from being part of this team. See you on the mats!

If your looking for the best MMA/ BJJ/ Muay Thai gym in Townsville look no further than Courage Training Centre. I trained at Courage for nearly year and sad to leave due to moving away from Townsville. The owner , Ian Bone has vast MMA ring experience, the man has been there and done that in the MMA world in Australia. His coaches- Joey, Jack and Steve are also highly experienced in their area of expertise. Once you start training you'll be welcomed and embraced by the friendly community that exists at Courage. I found all members are always keen to help and encourage new students. I was amazed of how everyone seem to know my name after a couple of sessions. The sessions are intensive but rewarding and after a couple of months I felt more than confident to do some hard sparring on the Saturday sparring sessions. Saturday's soon became my favourite day of the week, due to the comradeship. Courage Training Centre caters for all levels, from the raw beginner to pro-fighters. It's truely a family-like environment with everyone getting behind and supporting team mates when they have a fight or event. Often BBQs are held at the club to watch events or celebrate events. In-club tournaments were a great chance to come together and to test your skills against your mates. The Centre is multi facet, with a large amount of classes for children in both stand-up fighting and Brazilian Jiujitsu, the adults Muay Thai/ boxing sessions are always filled with a great bunch of people. The BJJ at Courage is second to none in Townsville with many participants, and also with a large amount of females on the mats. I was always surprised at their dedication and abilities in a male dominated sport. For me, the best part of Courage was the amount of classes at varying times. No matter what the schedule I could always find a class to train in. This is would be a great asset to a shift workers or people working unusual times. I wish that I could find a gym half as good as Courage Training Centre. It really is special.

For years I wanted to start some form of martial arts but never had the confidence to just walk in and give it a go. It took a bit of a push from my brother to bring me along to Courage one Saturday and the following week I was a member. The coaches and members at Courage really do make it a great positive place to train for both adults and kids. I’ve watched my son gain so much confidence in himself as a result of learning jiu jitsu at Courage and I love that I can share that with him. My only regret is not starting sooner. I highly recommend courage training centre!!

Both my kids were training at Courage and I use to watch them from the sidelines having a great time and learning new skills. I thought I could use my time better and decided to join as well. It’s a no nonsense gym with very supportive coaching staff who have help me gain new skills, lose 7 kg, improve my fitness, improve my cognitive skills whilst under pressure and have fun along the way. I’ve made new friends in the Courage community who also provide encouragement and assistance along the journey to being better. It’s a great place to train.

Although I've only been training here for about two months now, I can't express how much this club and the people here have had a positive impact in my life. From the coaches, Ian, Jack, Joseph, the staff Karen and Linda, to every member training here, I immediately felt welcomed and supported since day one, stepping onto the mat (with no prior experience in any martial arts or self defence at 23). Their embrace and love for BJJ fuelled my drive to pursue this art to the best of my ability, motivating me to come in and train as much as possible. The learning environment always feels safe, something I greatly appreciate as no one wants to get injured. I'm truly thankful for CTC and to have taken this leap of faith and signing up, being part of this community has given me a lot to look forward too outside of university life, I find myself always yearning for the next roll! See you on the mats! Olivier

I joined Courage this year and i absolutely love it. Its a great facility, filled with great people and great coaching. The training options are unmatched in townsville because of the CTC schedule, you can train morning and night in a range of striking and grappling arts. The teaching is structured and well thought out by coaches that have lots of martial arts experience. Highly recommend. -Jesse

This centre has totally benefited both my daughters with their confidence and discipline. They love training at Courage and all the coaches are extremely supportive and very professional. Thanks to all at the gym, fantastic family environment for all levels of experience.

Courage Training Center (CTC) is an excellent facility with great people. The coaches are highly professional but also extremely approachable. It does not matter if you want to be a professional fighter, learn something new, or lose some weight; CTC has everything you could ever need for both children and adults. The hardest part is mustering up the courage to walk through the gate, but when you are through, you will be greeted by a group of happy and positive people that will make you feel right at home.

Both my kids trained here for two years. If you’re into participation medals and showing up certificates then this is not the place for you. But if you want a place where your kids will learn the importance of discipline, persistence, and positive social interaction then you’ll battle to do better.

One of the best mma / BJJ gyms out there. Very professional coaches who set a high standard and provide genuine support and development along with a welcoming and encouraging environment.

Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to start a new hobby or to compete in martial arts. I started training here at the beginning of the year with zero martial arts experience and have since competed in 5 in-house sparring comps and 1 amateur comp. All the coaches are super encouraging and will help you smash goals. The structure of classes is well thought out and focuses on a specific skill each week and how to set it up in sparring. Saturday sparring sessions always have a great turnout with heaps of people with a variety of skillsets to practise with, it is non-intimidating for beginners as everyone is friendly and looks after each other. I received so much feedback not only from the coaches but everyone I have sparred with. It’s an amazing environment to build skills, friendships and confidence no matter your skill level.

Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The kids classes are amazing, it has given my shy 6 year old self confidence and a bunch of new friends. The coaches and equipment are second to none. No matter what your goal is, to just lose some weight, go on all the way to becoming a pro fighter or anything in between the team at Courage can help you achieve your goals.
