Kalang (old spelling of “Kallang”) River Reservoir was officially opened on 26 March 1912 by then Governor John Anderson. For the event, a commemorative stone was specially imported from Aswan, Egypt, and laid at the reservoir near this location. Lower Peirce Reservoir, officially opened on 26 March 1912, is the second-oldest impounding reservoir in Singapore. Built at the lower portion of Kallang River in 1910, the reservoir was originally known as Kalang (Kallang) River Reservoir. A decade later, in 1922, the reservoir was renamed Peirce Reservoir in honour of the service of Robert Peirce, the municipal engineer who served in the position from 1901 to 1916. In 1970, the Public Utilities Board engaged Binnie & Partners (Singapore) to conduct feasibility studies for the construction of a new reservoir in the vicinity of Peirce Reservoir as well as to implement the project. The site was found to be suitable and construction started in May 1972. The works included the building of a 30-metre-high, 350-metre-long earth dam upstream of the existing dam, hence creating a new reservoir upstream of the existing one. This new reservoir was named Upper Peirce Reservoir, while the older reservoir was accordingly renamed Lower Peirce Reservoir.

I went on a cloudy / rainy day so the pics don’t show how nice it is. But definitely worth going. You can walk all the way to upper peirce and back which will be around 10km

It’s a very nice reservoir. The Boardwalk is built on top (along) the reservoir which is amazing. Very close up to the water ! The only complaint is : carpark slot are very limited. I guess can only park 25-30cars? And guys, bring your trash with u when u leave ~

Nice place to keep visiting. Views varies throughout the day but really try to avoid the evenings cos the mosquitos come out to play after sunset. Do arm yourself with mosquito repellent it will come useful and do watch where you walk as it gets darker the lights can be dimmed. I just saw a person tripped but luckily she’s alright.

One of the best place to catch a view of the sunset. Car park space is limited on weekends so it will be better to car pool if possible. The board walk is not baby pram friendly. Dogs are not allowed into the boardwalk. Do watch out for wild boars and monkeys. They would not attack you if you maintain a safety distance. Have fun.
