Very cool to see some of the old machinery still intact! Hike was strenuous, but beautiful and completely worth it. For those that want to skip the hike, you can rent a dingy and beach it on the shore, from there, the mill, petroglyphs and waterfall are all fairly accessible (the falls and petroglyphs have a short but steep climb up tall steps, at least twice the height of regular stair steps.

Enjoyed seeing the history and liked that many pieces of equipment from the steam era are still in place. Hike down was good, heading back up after exploring all day, a little tougher, especially last 1/2 mile or so. Saw many types of birds and trees. Interesting to see the change in flora from sea level to mountain top all in one hike.

Great excursion to see a cool historical site. Make sure to check out the ruins and petroglyphs! Also, watch out for the giant beehive in the ruins - absolutely massive!

If you are going to do a hike in the park, I would recommend the Reef Bay Trail, which leads down to the Sugar Mill Ruins and a lovely beach (dont forget snorkel gear, there is a reef to the right). The trail is quite hard, more so going back, but well worth doing. If you look carefully there is so much wildlife. The mill itself is interesting but just a basic ruin, though you can get an idea of how it worked.

This was a strenuous hike down to the beach and back. We saw all kinds of wildlife along the way... Deer, spiders, centipedes, hermit crabs, etc... The trail was well marked and the sugar mill ruins had lots of signs describing the process used to make the sugar and what each section was for. A great hike overall and would recommend to anyone who is up to the hike.

One of the best ruins on island to visit. Take the Reef Bay Trail from Center Line Road and enjoy the sights and sounds of the tropical jungle on your way. Don't forget to visit the petroglyphs. Bring plenty of water and wear sturdy shoes.

It’s quite a walk to this and a bigger walk back up. Hour and a half each way. But the ruins are quite magnificent, with many details of its history and function. You need to have some interest in history and technology, but lots to look at.

Fascinating look at a Victorian-era steam powered sugar mill. You can walk around the ruins and explore the different stages of production. Doesn't evade the complex history of the space; hard not to reflect on the lives lived by the workers at this mill and plantation. Very neat to see the steam engine still there in situ. Plaques were informative but could definitely use a reprint; some of the information was hard to read because the plaques were damaged or sunfaded. Got here as part of the Reef Bay hike. Moderately difficult hike but definitely worth it! No cost to visit whatsoever, just a somewhat challenging hike (the way back uphill is the hard part!)

These were amazing! The hike was wonderful and to end up at the ruins was a special treat. Highly recommend them on your travels to St John

πŸ‘ Beach is absolutely amazing. The underwater park trail is cool, but because there is no map it wasn't very clear how many plaques I should be looking for and how far out or around the trail went. Online it says the beach has a life guard which isn't true. When the water is calm its a super easy snor...

πŸ‘πŸ‘ This park and the trails are wonderful, especially right now in the middle of summer. It is thick and beautiful. Great river views. Great exercise trails. Please! Keep it beautiful and garbage free. Do not invade the wildlife either and stay on the trails.
