Everytime we visit from Oregon we make it a priority to say hello to the Martinez brothers and their exceptional food. I would recommend the extra minute to get to this new beautiful location and try the WHAT I think is the best authentic Mexican food. In the state of Iowa you have to try the fresh made guacamole. I am not kidding they have over 30 plus different drinks and tequila.

Fantastic food, friendly staff, well made cocktails and all at reasonable prices! This place quickly has become a favorite in the area for my family. It a little out of the way to head to the airport and sometimes there is a bit of a wait due to the popularity in this place but it is well worth it!

Loved it! We had guacamole made at our table side. I drank a yummy paloma and had a chicken fajita burrito! My son had the super fajita. Portions were generous! We saw one large plane land and two small planes take off. Service was friendly and efficient.

We appreciated being served outside on a cool, cloudless Iowa evening! It was fun seeing small aircraft coming and going. We enjoyed interacting with our server, Curtis, who ensured everything was as-ordered. Our chicken fajita taco salads were perfect with our personal tweaks. The chicken was so tender and flavorful! We played with the frozen margarita ingredients a bit, and enjoyed the tasty results. We would definitely come back if in town. Keep putting the positive vibes out there, Curtis!

5 stars for their selection of Tequilas, I noticed several expensive top shelf bottles that we enjoy in our personal collection so this is great to see. Service was very friendly and it was very clean and the location is very unique. Flavor-wise on the meals, I’ll give it an OK. The table salsa is ok, guacamole needed salt and lime, queso was served a little cooler than what I prefer, the enchiladas verde was served as if the kitchen had run out of verde and the carnitas didn’t have enough flavor for my liking but I like the more fattier pieces. This was corrected with dipping my tacos in the side of verde that came with my meal though. Our margaritas were worth the price so I am looking forward in returning to try another and another.

This place is awesome! Excellent food, fast and friendly service, huge portions, reasonable prices. They make the guacamole tableside to order! Just the best! Will be going back soon.

We stopped here when passing through on I35. It was so so good! The margaritas were out of this world and the food was great too. I would definitely recommend you check this place out. (Don’t be deceived by the exterior…It’s part of an airport.)

What a great addition to the Mason City Airport! Avion Azul has a really unique dining experience overlooking the airport's runways. Delicious traditional Mex food, fresh margaritas (and other yummy cocktails), fresh tableside guacamole and excellent service.

Love airport restaurants! And this one has very good food. Had Carne asada tacos, simple but meat was good and plenty portion wise. They were a bit busy and got a little behind but caught back up while I was there. And, airplanes to watch!

All small airports like this probably has a empty lease just waiting for somebody to move in. Well AA did and I think they did a pretty good job. It’s not for the dozen or so travelers that fly in and out each day but for the locals to enjoy good food and maybe some airport action to boot. First the house margaritas were decent but just over yonder what AA calls a jumbo is just a regular and regular size here is a two sip kiddie cup over there. Margaritas are a racket just like everything else in America. My ‘jumbo’ = maybe an oz of rail tequila and 10 oz of pre-maid machine dispensed lime liquid was 12$….yikes. It tasted good but I never feel a drink should cost about the same as a meal. Chips and salsa were good enough but I often wonder why restaurants do give them more love as they kinda ate the opening act that sets the tone. Both entrees were good which in my case eased the true feelings of them being two bite tacos as they where so small. I guess I was pleasantly surprised by the location, ambience and service but the price per portion was a little off base in my opinion. Give ‘em a try and see for yourself they do a good and just maybe you’ll see a plan fly or ufo pass by. Enjoy!

Wonderful meal, highly recommend! Great restaurant developed by North Iowa locals in the Mason City airport. Food quality rivaled any Mexican I’ve had in Denver, and the birria tacos were the best I’ve had to date. Curtis the server was top notch; on a scale of 1-10 he was like a 12. The kitchen clearly has a passion for what they’re doing - every dish was made with care. We engaged the server about the menu and offered some suggestions, and the kitchen thanked us by comping a dessert (pot de crème - so good!) Lastly, it was great to have lunch with expansive views over the airfield. Great vibes!

Great food! It can get a bit slow and cramped, but go just before or after busy times, and you'll have a great experience. The food is amazing.

TLDR: Good food, worth the wait and price. My wife and I came out here for a date over our Christmas break. We ordered the Chorizo Brussels and Queso Avión for our appetizers. I also got the Código Cadillac and Margarita Flight with Mango, Watermelon, Passionfruit, and traditional; all were immaculate drinks. For our entrees I got the Carne Asada with Mojo Shrimp and my wife got the Chimichanga. Once again amazing dishes with distinct layers of flavors. Our service was slower than desired but that is likely due to the dining room being at near 100% capacity. Our server was also very busy but courteous about the wait. Over all great experience with a good atmosphere, moderate noise level, and kind staff.

Recently reopened with an updated menu and drinks, they were really busy for a Wednesday. We got seated right away, but didn’t have anyone come to our table for even drinks for st least 10 minutes. Finally the bartender checked on us and from there she was really accommodating and helpful. I ordered the Blackened Fish Tacos, they were delicious. Great prices for wine, the rest of their drinks are kinda pricey, but very tasty. I recommend the Paloma, one of the best I’ve had. Hopefully we’ll have better service next time, but still a great place! Have been back and had excellent service, they even brought me the drink I love on the house! Great people and a fun place to visit!

This was our first time here and we loved the atmosphere of eating outside and watching the plane activity. The food was excellent and the churros were out of this world. Will definitely go back

Cute Mexican food joint. Small but nice view of the airport. Kind of small menu. Ordered Ceviche which oddly didn't come with chips, although you are served chips and salsa when you arrive at your table. The Ceviche was the best I have ever had. The tortilla soup was amazing as well. The only downside of the soup is it had rice instead of the traditional beans in the soup. The volume of music was a bit too loud.

Always game for Mexican food so we hit the Mason City Airport. Avion Azul did not disappoint. The Fajitas are really good as are the Shrimp Tacos. The Margaritas hit the spot too. Guac made at your table!

What a great place! I had the best shrimp tacos! Watermelon margarita - Rico Suave (pictured) was good but not enough watermelon flavor for me. Strawberry basil margarita was delicious. Definitely will be back.

Wow this place was amazing! I’m very impressed on their menu options, their food and beverage quality was excellent. I’m new to this town and my experience here was great! This place is actually kid-friendly with menu options for them too. The drinks were great very refreshing, not too strong. I’ve been craving margaritas so I ordered the Margarita Flight, you get to pick 4 flavors. I ordered the Avión-Fajitas, it was delicious and very filling (by the time we paid, my fiancé might as well have rolled me back to the car lol!). For dessert we ordered churros to-go and they were made fresh to order. This restaurant is located in the airport and you can enjoy your meal while you watch aircraft’s land or taking off. They have a cute outdoor patio where you can dine outside as well. Overall, very satisfied with my experience here. I’m so happy there is an excellent Mexican cuisine spot right here in Iowa!

Extremely good! The salsa and tableside guacamole were excellent—we said yes to spice in the guacamole and it wasn’t super spicy just really well seasoned. Our table got the adobada tacos (pork and grilled onions), Camarones tocino fajitas (bacon wrapped shrimp), and shrimp enchiladas and they were all super good. For drinks we had a Paloma, the first class margarita, and blood orange margarita and they were also A+. The host and waitstaff were very friendly and provided great service tonight.
