This was an awesome stop on our travels for the day - got a little walk in at the botanical gardens and the flowers were in beautiful fall bloom. Very nice respite.

Fantastic park to visit with family and friends. Great playground, abundant wildlife and bird viewing. Paddle boats for rental was fun and inexpensive. The kids love going there.

My goodness how the lake of the woods has grown up. Guess that happens after 40 years.

Love the fresh air and friendly people. It was great to go walking with my puppy and get her used to the outdoors. She loved the waterfall at the garden and the lake further in 😊

What a beautiful fall way to get some fresh air and a gentle stroll. Lots of wildlife. Small game animals and plenty for bird watchers. Blacktop path is 1.5 miles out for a total of a 3 mile full walk. Take the time and enjoy walking, running or biking this wooded area. Even the covered bridge has a walking and driving area.

Always amazing. Staff is great with upkeep, its always clean. My favorite place other than my house to meditate. Lots of gorgeous wildlife. Only downside is sometimes visitors are a little disrespectful to the wildlife but they can't really control that.

This is a great park with a decent lake and access to the Sangamon river. A wonderful place to hang out and spend several hours. The pedestrian path through the park was great. Also the suspension bridge over the lake is not to miss!

Large enough to spend good hours exploring, small enough to not be overwhelming, always well cared for trails... Saw ten deer there this morning.

Loved this place! So many trails and animals and educational signs on trees and plants. Sat under a gazebo and wrote for awhile. Enjoy the views and the peace.

A simple park with a lake. We only experienced a portion due to time constraints, I believe our group would need 4 hours to take it all in. The swinging bridge was fun. Just walking around the banks and admiring the flora was enjoyable. Other visitors were smiling and friendly. I'd like to return early in the morning with binoculars for birdwatching and sit on the dock with a cup of coffee. Parking appeared adequate on a Saturday evening. We did not locate any bathroom facilities near the area we explored. Next time, I will scope those out.

Nice park for walking dogs, picnics or fishing. Don't climb the tower you can't see anything.

We have been comng here for generations. We held our family reunions in the pavillions. All the kids would play on the playgrounds, go out on the water, hike the woods and climb the Carillon. All served with some family cooking. Too bad the grandkids were not able to climb the Catillon today. It is closed on the weekend.

A beautiful park with plenty of dining space options from simple picnics to formal banquets and weddings. The park offers plenty of options for private, serene settings.

Has a little bike path attached nearby that takes you through the nearby town. Also had a cool pedestrian bridge that crosses the lake. Other than it seems like more of a spot for lunch or relaxation than hiking or views

We had a great time. The covered bridge was really neat. A hot day and we were still able to ride our bikes as the trail was shaded by big trees . Saw some deer. Climbed the tower. Did not get to the highly rated museum or the botanical gardens. People were very friendly.

During this covid-19 crisis it's nice to get away and enjoy the beauty of a local park. There were numerous people there however it was obvious that the social distancing was definitely considered. A lot of people fishing and there was a good distance between everyone. People walking the park stay quite a distance behind the other folks. Great day just to walk around get some fresh air and be part of nature. If you're in the area please stop by and enjoy this.

Whether you’re interested in exploring it on foot or doing a drive-through, you can’t beat the views in this park while you’re soaking in the sunshine and enjoying the fresh air.

We rented the Elks Lake Pavilion for an event and it was the perfect setting for it. There are swings next to it for the kids, the tables and chairs are provided inside the building, there are also picnic tables outside behind the building that are in between the lake. The bathrooms for the facility are outside, which I wasn't aware of when booking but it didn't matter. They are easily accessible and clean and even if it's raining there's an overhang so you stay dry. Overall I'm very happy with the facility and would recommend and use again. Also requesting it and communication with staff was easy and great!

Stopped on a whim on my way to WI because I needed a break and loved the name. So glad I did. Peaceful park with water and huge gorgeous trees. Great spot for lunch, a walk, or relaxing.

👍 We decided to check this place out because the website said you can see the night sky so beautifully here. Unfortunately there was a full moon so we didn’t get to see the sky as we had wanted to but it was still very stunningly beautiful at night as the moon illuminated the forest beneath it. The tr...

👍👍 It was a beautiful afternoon and evening! The water was calm and very few people were there. The fishing was a little slow, but I did catch about an 8 lbs. catfish that put up a nice fight.I released it after taking a picture. Very relaxing time overall!
