My new husband and I were debating where to go on the last night of our honeymoon and picked Hyman's. Boy, did we make the right choice!! I got the combo dinner, with fried Chilean sea bass, crab cake, and mac and cheese, and my husband got the bourbon glazed Chilean sea bass, salmon and grits, and fries. We got fried pickles, hush puppies, and boiled peanuts to start. Everything was absolutely phenomenal. I'm normally not big on fried fish, but got the sea bass fried at the recommendation of Yolanda, our server, and it was so delicious! Yolanda was friendly and was just the right amount of attentive. The general store on the way out has some cool scrubs, bath bombs, and apparel as well. Such a wonderful experience!!

Had a great time at Hyman’s with my family! Prices were awesome compared to other places, food came out quickly and hot, and everything was delicious! My family usually eats a more bland palette in terms of saltiness, but we didn’t feel that the food here was overly salty. We ordered: - The Carolina Delight (amazing combo of grits, shrimp, and sauce with a nice buttery flavor) - Fried green tomatoes (great with the Cajun mayo sauce) - Gumbo (similar to other gumbos I’ve tried before, a little salty, but yummy nevertheless) - 3 platter combo (Chilean sea bass which truly “melted in your mouth like butter” as the manager told us, calamari that was tender on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside, and crab cake with great flavors!) - Complimentary hush puppies were delicious! The customer service was nice, albeit similar to other restaurants. The manager came by and gave us some recommendations, and our server Wanda was also quite attentive and kept offering us more hush puppies, which was great. My family really enjoyed seeing the different celebrities that have eaten at our table as well. It’s worth noting we saw a large dead roach-type bug (third picture) on the floor near our table, which was promptly cleaned up. Not a big deal though. Overall, lives up to its great rating! We greatly enjoyed eating here as a way to kick off our Charleston dining experiences.

What's more to say? Stop reading the seemingly endless amounts of 5 star reviews and just come! I did not regret a single penny I dropped on the best seafood restaurant I've ever been to! As always, I start with the service. 5 stars, with no doubt. Each server seemed like they genuinely enjoyed working here, with them accommodating me whenever I needed anything. They came, they gave me the food, they gave me my drinks, everything just was perfect. The moonshine flight was beautiful with no unpleasantness to be found. Not too spicy, lots of variety, good amount of booze. My date wanted the Bahama mama, and she said it was the best tropical drink she's ever had with that banana rum. So the drinks are top notch too! Not just the food. Where to start on the food, where all the other 5 star reviews have yet to cover? Well if this is not convincing, my date has never liked seafood in her life. After this day, she told me that she would only ever like this seafood, and expects it to be at least this good. So I guess, I will be returning over and over. The croquettes were divine, the hush puppies here make the competitors taste like boxed food. The sea bass croquette grit cake was fantastic, the boiled peanuts were a delight, she crab soup is creamy and delectable. Each and every bit of fried seafood was a proper amount of done-ness, not too overcooked, not too under-cooked, and everything was extremely fresh! It tastes so clean, and proper, no complaints from sea to shining sea. Not convinced by this or any of the other reviews? Just come on in, let your mind get blown yourself!

OMG the food was amazing!!! Clifton H was an amazing server. He was very attentive and made good recommendations. We’re here on holiday and it was worth every penny we spent. It felt great to be helped the way we were. The owner even came by and said hi. Didn’t expect that, it was a nice touch. Fast service and even better food. The drink was good too.

Fun place with good food. The seafood here was great. The owner greeted us and made sure we were taken well attended too. We had a party of 7 and they got us seated in 30 minutes. Appetizers were great and came out quickly. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The menu can be a little overwhelming but there are some great options. The gator sausage, sea bass croquettes and the famous Carolina delight are great apps. The shrimp platter and flounder were our favorites of the entrées. The hush puppies were fantastic as well. Highly recommend for some good fried seafood.

My wife and I tried this place last year and now it's a place we have to visit every time we visit Charleston. The food here is amazing! We had a server last year that we thought was amazing (sorry we cannot remember your name, maybe Clifton), recommended and suggested certain dishes that we ended up trying and they were amazing. This year we had Ansley and she was also great. Very attentive, friendly and also gave her personal suggestions. Once again this place did not let us down. Can't wait to come back! Everything we had was amazing, but we do highly recommend the fried shrimp, fried salmon croquette and the broiled Chilean sea bass croquette.

This restaurant is such a cool place. We were lucky and got there before the dinner rush, only waiting 15 minutes to be seated. They have a very large menu, so it was hard to narrow down what to get. Upon ordering our friendly waitress brought a small plate of hush puppies and boiled peanuts. I ordered the fried Oysters and catch of the day #1, Pollock, with the sweet potato souffle. Everything was delicious and their cajun mayo is great on everything!! Coleslaw and hush puppies came with both of our meals and were very good. Definitely a must-try restaurant if you have a chance!

The restaurant has a great vibe in downtown Charleston with excellent food and great service. This was a great find which we selected based on our desire for seafood and it had the highest google review score. Our server Ashley B. Did a great job explaining the specials, waiting on the table, and checking in on us. All the food was fantastic, the fried shrimp were particularly good and the hush puppies were amazing. Everything was priced fairly and I would be happy to return during my next visit to Charleston. Food came out quickly and our waiter dropped by at regular intervals.

Tummy doesn’t even begin to describe the food! Unlimited hush puppies, shrimp Carolina delight and chicken/waffles!! Our plates were clean, even though the portions were generous. Kate was an excellent server, very patient and very attentive!! The owner even stopped by to ask how everything was. We would definitely come back!

Hyman’s is the iconic restaurant of Charleston, being a family-owned business for 5 generations. Located next to a General store of the same name, in a renovated historic house, it evokes an aura of Southern sophistication, nuanced with antebellum charm. We had the Restaurant Week special (6 courses) and Captain’s Platter, preceded by Cole Slaw, Hush Puppies and boiled peanuts. The famous Chilean Sea Bass croquettes did not disappoint and the platters were flavorful and filling. Dessert was Key Lime Pie. We had a lovely Saturday evening dinner after a 1-hour wait. We highly recommend this place!

Love this place. Clifton was our waiter and gave us some great recommendations. The owner also stopped by several times to make sure everything was good.

Menu is quite big; thanks to the previous reviewers who made great recommendations and we were able to zoom in to the best items! - Margarita, she crab soup, seabass croquette, grouper (stuffed with crab at just additional $10!). All were delicious though a tad heavy on the salt. Service by the friendly and attentive Kate was excellent too! Would definitely revisit Hyman if I return to Charleston!

Last week, My wife and I took a quick vacation to Charleston. We were told neighbors & more that we had to stop by this seafood establishment. Oh, I didn't expect the fine attention and detail to extra ordinary customer service from the the hostess, the server, another service person, and even the 5th generation owner. All had a can-do attitude that every business should emulate. Besides the wonderful seafood,*** the best takeaway*** I can say is that I'm going to use some of their ideas on good attitude and positive vibes in my company back home. Thank you, thank you, thank you for a wonderful experience!

Very friendly staff and the owner who greets customers and checks on them at the tables. There are plenty, if not too many, options to pick from, but I would suggest to order She Crab Soup, The Carolina Delight, and then some fish (in my case it was Crispy Flounder). Everything that we ordered was very tasty, and very filling so there was no room left for dessert.

Ashley B was a wonderful server. This was our first time and had a great experience. I enjoyed the boiled peanuts to start. We got a Carolina delight and the Hyman’s classic, both were delicious! We will definitely return when we are in Charleston.

Food was incredible! Everything fresh! My new go to in Charleston! I had the trio with Calamari, Flounder, oysters and mashed potatoes. I don’t like hush puppies but they were so good I ate 8 of them 😂 ….. the froze flight is definitely a must have for drinks! The customer service was impeccable. From the manager to the servers. Thank you Victoria for making this a great experience for me. Coming back all the time! ❤️

This restaurant was wonderful in every way. The food was excellent! The raw oysters were cold, salty, and delicious. Our waiter, Alayna, was so sweet and did her job very well. I can’t say enough about them. I’ll be back when we return to Charleston.

The food was amazing the atmosphere was super fun. Oh, and you have to visit the ladies room. That’s all I’m saying about it— But I think our party walked out with eight jars from the store after visiting it! Richard was the BEST server. We had a pretty decent size group and every single person who took one of his suggestions love to their food – – actually I think everybody loved their food. He made our dinner. Fresh fun food for sure!

Fantastic seafood, the Carolina Delight was delicious and came with a ton of shrimp, not just 5-6 pieces like I feel is common with many places. They definitely put an emphasis on service here, our server Jayson was excellent. Even the owner came to our table and thanked us for coming. Overall a very great experience.

Clifton H was very professional and he knows this restaurant. He was prompt with answering all of our questions and concerns. I tried the signature Carolina delight and it was delicious. First time eating FRIED GRITS!!! Wow!! Some fried grits….. who would have thought. LOL. The crab cakes are very meaty and flavorful as well as scrumptiously delicious!!! Everything in this restaurant is very flavorful!! If you like flavor be sure to try them out. You will not be disappointed. Clifton H.
