The absolute worst experience. My husband was in severe pain and was referred to ER by his orthopedic surgeon for pain control and CT scan. Triage nurse rated him with low acuity score, despite 10/10 pain, highly elevated vitals. Sent back to waiting room. I was strong advocate for my husband, and asked front office staff about why people were going ahead of him who very not in acute distress. They answered, “we’re just techs.” Asked to speak to higher level. A nurse came to speak. ( my husband could not speak because his pain level was 10/10, was grimacing in pain. She didn’t even look at him. I asked her to look at the patient. She did respond and we were soon brought back to a room. The nurse assigned was totally overwhelmed, barely greeted us, no eye contact. The PA came in soon to assess and was pleasant enough, but overall failed miserably with managing the pain. I had to suggest toradol, which she agreed to. Considering his pain as high as it was, I couldn’t believe she didn’t order a IV. It took over 5 hours to get pain under control, and would have been even longer if I wasn’t there advocating for my husband. Anyone would do the same if they saw there loved one scream out in pain and tears rolling down their face. It was horrible. Very slow and uncaring response received by the overwhelmed nurse who even threatened to call security and have me removed simply because my husband could not advocate for himself. I had to ask for nurse manager. She came and acted quickly and was very understanding, compassionate, and professional. She personally put in an IV and got the ball rolling while listening to frustrations and was attentive to the patient, received additional orders for pain med and moved us to a higher acuity bed and was assigned a wonderful nurse with awesome disposition and professionalism that I am more accustomed to. Nurse manager, Kristin, assured us we were in good hands. No doubt, I responded. With that said, pain management still remained poor… response times were way too long. CT came 5 times but pain was unmanageable — he couldn’t lie flat on table … PA returned to room and asked how it went. She had no idea what was going on. CT finally able to be done after I suggested a dose of IV dilaudid (I am a RN), which was ordered and given. He was taken to CT within 10 minutes of that dose. Took over 50 minutes before he came back to room. Finally seen a doctor, Dr. Burchette, who was began his shift at 6pm came in to explain imaging results..and we were to follow up with neurosurgeon in morning. He was very professional and attentive, although I had to suggest an additional dose of pain med after my husband said in his presence that he was becoming very uncomfortable again. Discharge was quick. The nurse like I said earlier was pleasant, professional, knowledgeable, a joyful spirit. Journey 1230 to 6:45 pm to get CT scan.. The reason I gave only 1 star is because it was terrible experience overall. Pain management was frustrating — to see my husband suffer unnecessarily and how horrific is this for the poor patient! As my last assignment in hospital nursing was served as a PACU nurse at Roper downtown for 8 years, I was very disappointed. My husband very disappointed too. Unacceptable… RoperSt.Francis West Ashley ER. Do better!

My mother is in the hospital and because she doesn’t have insurance the case worker wants to send her home when the doctor is saying she has to be in for another 6 weeks. Not to mention they “forgot” to serve her lunch and dinner tonight 10/30/23. 0/10 recommend. I will be following up with my lawyer😏 Also they have her in a room with no heat.

I gave birth here and the nurses and doctors and everything about labor and delivery was wonderful. Nurses were very on top of everything and always quick to come when needed. Loved this birth place. One star taken because I brought colostrum i pumped prior to delivery while i had a virus (some serious liquid gold) to store in nursery freezer and the nursery got rid of it… But otherwise very happy with the rest of our experience… just don’t trust them with your gold

AWFUL EXPERIENCE!! DO NOT GO TO POSTPARTUM UNIT HERE!!!! My wife gave birth here and the delivery was excellent. The labor and delivery staff were nice, attentive, and really cared for my wife and unborn child. However, when we got upstairs to the postpartum unit everything changed. The nurses are extremely rude and condescending. You can hear them talking negatively about other patients and even students, they give you attitude anytime you ask for help, they were rough with my baby, and talked down to me and my wife. I would never EVER have a baby here again because of how the nurses and techs on the postpartum unit behaved. Our nurse was Lexie and I hope she gets fired for how poorly she cared for us and how awful her attitude was toward my wife. She scolded us for wanting to supplement with formula and for using a pacifier (which they made us pay for in order to get because they don't offer them for free). I understand wanting to educate about the benefits of breast feeding, but they were belittling my wife to the point of tears for wanting to supplement and let our baby use a pacifier. It was a HORRIBLE experience and I wouldn't wish any parents postpartum experience to be like this one. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT A HAPPY AND HEALTHY POSTPARTUM!!!

I walked in at 345am. I was immediately greeted and asked what was going on. Within minutes, the doctor called me in, listened to what I had to say, and instantly knew what the issue was. Within 2 hours from when I walked in I was admitted, given IV with pain meds, put through the catscan, got results and discharged. Having spent many years running ems to many hospitals I was very impressed.

Yesterday I had hernia surgery at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital. It was an excellent experience from admissions to post operation. The staff, nurses, and doctors were kind, hard working, and very professional. I run a business and I expect excellence out of my business and, from this experience, I believe that Bon Secours St. Francis desires and achieves excellence too. Thank you to the staff, nurses, and doctors!

My 93 year old father was recently hospitalized at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and received horrible care. He was not physically able to feed himself and, according to his chart, was supposed to receive assistance eating his meals. Well, that hardly ever happened. On several occasions, I witnessed at least a dozen employees at the nurse's station outside his room having a "social hour" so I know it wasn't because they were understaffed. I will never let him go back to that hospital.

Roper by day Grim Reaper by night. Worse hospital care ever at night. Thought I was going to die. And very upset that my spine surgeon never never saw me after surgery or the next day. Never saw him at all and followup appts were with PA. I had to specifically request appointment with surgeon which took months, but getting a consult appt for surgery was instant. Surgery went went, but hospital care and post op care were non existent.

I just had surgery at Bon Secours St. Francis in West Ashley, and was admitted afterwards. This was my 7th surgery and 4th hospital stay. I have to say that my experience there was incredible. It was absolutely superior to any other care I have previously received. From the moment I walked in the door and was greeted by security, to the day I was wheeled out to our car when I left- every single person I was in contact with was very kind and friendly. The nursing staff was attentive- and when I called they came immediately to help me, and they did so with such compassion and friendliness. The nurses were simply amazing! Even the dining people who came to take my order for meals were friendly- and their meals were incredibly good for a hospital! The hospital was very clean, too and the room comfortable. I was also impressed with how organized the staff were. Meds were right on time, meals were right on time, and they seemed very well staffed. I had six surgeries prior at 3 other hospitals, and I’ve never seen such organization as I saw this week at this hospital. No one wants to be in the hospital, and I couldn’t wait to get out and come home. But, this hospital experience was very good and I was so impressed with them. My friends who were there with me each day were as well. If I have to have anymore hospital stays, this hospital will be my preference!

I had the best experience in this hospital. With God's grace and the medical team's work in the ER, the physicians and nurses from the second floor literally saved my daughter's life. I can not thank them enough for the amazing work they do. Great service!! Very attentive at all times! Thank you all! God always bless you all!

God help you if you try to pay your bill through payments. They're quick to give your information to a collection agency. EDIT: I just got one of those unsympathetic copy/paste responses, telling me they "regret" I had a bad experience, and to call one of their equally unsympathetic lackeys in the billing department. It's too late for that! Just by giving my info to a debt collector, you've already damaged my credit. It would have been just fine if you'd just accept the payments as I would have been able to make. Your response to my review is insulting.

I live closer to this hospital but after a year between my last ER visit I instantly remembered why I make the drive to MUSC. Almost 2 hours in the waiting room, I wasn’t the only patient who left. The wait time is always beyond what it should be for the lack of people there. Outside of the front desk clerk everyone here hates their job and it’s apparent. Unfortunately I’m here because I’m in pain not because I want to be. I don’t know why that is an hassle to even do my blood pressure. So unfortunately I had to leave the ER at almost 10 at night with my children so that I can drive to MUSC to receive care. I’m sure even with the drive and wait time it will be better than the care or lack there of that is always received here. Just skip this hospital trust me it’s never worth it- a year later it’s still the same. Might as well skip the trip here and head straight to the morgue in an emergency, that’s where you’re going to end up anyway with the level of care you’d receive here. Edited to add: upon reading the other reviews, having to leave to go to another hospital because you aren’t being seen and feeling like you are going to end up dead if you go/ stay at this hospital is a common occurrence. I don’t understand why this ER is even allowed to be open..

I previously had surgery at a different hospital located in Mt Pleasant that was miserable. (I won’t harp on them on this page). All of that to say, I was nervous what I was coming into. It was night and day difference. Everyone I interacted with was beyond kind and compassionate. If I called, they came to check on me within 5 minutes. If I didn’t call, they would still come check on me. They made sure I always had drink and food on time, even if they had to order it themselves. I had to get up and do laps and my nurse would walk with me every time. I have to give a huge shout out to Abbey, my day time nurse. She truly cared and did everything she could to make sure I was as comfortable as I could be. She was always so kind and explained everything. If I have to have another surgery, which I hope I don’t, I will be choosing this facility. No questions asked.

Came in at 4:45. Check with the nurse at 8:30 and they said there were 4 people ahead of me. 7 people later and an hour later I'm still waiting. Not to mention they are allowing people to let their children run loose in the waiting room. I've picked 5 fleas off me sitting here. I came in to have my knee and legged looked at after having it kicked and popped and got to the point my lower leg became overly swollen and my foot started to get cold and numb that I decided it was time to seek medical help.... I regret coming here at this point id rather just take my chances and let my leg get to the point of no return then to ever return to this place. Since I got here I've noticed elderly people look like they are dying and were here long before I was. You're better off taking the risk at trident hospital then sit here and wait and be ignored. Don't ask how many people ahead of you because they will move you further down.

Care has been great, hospital is beautiful and a peaceful, healing environment. Staff is very kind. Neill from Respiratory Therapy is kind, knowledgeable and overall amazing! What a great experience and what a great teacher and caregiver he is! The cafeteria, however, is another story! The man working the grill was very rude, and the prices are ridiculous. The salad bar is almost TEN DOLLARS PER POUND! I was going to get some watermelon slices, but they had them with the rinds on and it was 1.5 lbs which came to FOURTEEN DOLLARS for TWO SLICES of watermelon!!! That is ridiculous!

They have zero interest in your problems. They have zero urgency. The wait in the ER is ridiculous. The average wait time is about 4 to 5 hours. They don’t tend to patients needs. There was a man that couldn’t walk and when he asked to use bathroom the nurse simply threw him a urinal. This man can’t get up. This place is a joke and a disgrace. If I could give it zero stars I would.

Kia McDowell on the 5th floor was absolutely AMAZING! She was so patient and always came into our room with a smile and concern for my husbands well-being. Her heart showed so much compassion towards both of us. We need MORE KIA’S in this world! Unfortunately, the lab tech named Tammy came into my husbands room the morning of Friday, August, 25th at 6:02am with one of the worst attitudes I’ve seen since being in the hospital. She was very rude to my husband, myself and to Kia. Her manners are completely gone. To come on someone’s room first thing in the morning being very rude for absolutely no reason other than my husband asking if she could draw blood from his IV port since that’s the way it has been being drawn, ( he is deathly afraid of needles.) she was very snippy and had absolutely no manners. We were very grateful for Kia stepped in and took over the situation. Kia handled everything very professionally and effectively. She actually stepped in and did the bloodwork herself.

I stood in the lobby for 6 hours in excursive pain, waited a long time to get check in and check out took up almost my whole day. This hospital is not a great hospital to be at while in pain. I wouldn’t recommend. I’ll rather sit in trident before I ever come here again. I don’t know if its the unprofessional staff that’s being lazy or not enough staff to treat patients . It’s really sad that patients who came to get treated have to wait a long time In extremely excursive pain to not know whats going on, or what going to happen next . If I would rate it 0 stars I would it sucks to see a hospital full of medical professionals treat their patients like their life doesn’t mean anything to anyone …..

I want to thank everyone on the 5th floor for taking such amazing care of my sister, Barbara Winters. Everyone worked gracefully together as a team to ensure that she was given the best care possible possible. Bonus points for having a kindhearted chaplain to help us through our difficult time. I can’t thank everyone enough for the most professional, first class care ever!!! Hats off to every single one of you. Best regards, Michelle Wertan

Spent 12 hours in the waiting room of emergency dept just to have my gravely ill 70 year mother seen in the hallway in the back. My 72 year old father had to wait in the car since there are not enough chairs and security forced him to wait outside in the cold. I got to stay because my mom was weak and could not walk so I rolled her in a wheelchair (the last one available) to the restroom 10 times that night. Triage nurse needs re training. Finally mom was seen in the HALLWAY at 3:30 am and admitted for acute kidney failure, hyponatremia, and severe dehydration. I’m sure she will be billed like she had a room. The nurses didn’t realize she did not eat anything at all in there. I could not wait to get her out of this awful place. This experience was the worst. Absolutely ridiculous and beneath any standard of care. As a APRN myself I’m embarrassed for this facility. We have good insurance, but this facility was worse care than a free clinic. We will never ever go back there.

I cannot say enough good things about the great Doctor's and very professional nursing staff, but then there is Cariolyn. Carolyn was the person at patient checkin who had no interest in providing assistance only moving people along the process . I was going to be late for a blood test that had a specific window in which blood had to be drawn My fault I didn’t account for the weather and traffic on 526 but I was still there by 9:30 and had 30 minutes left in the window . She never offered to help me get to the lab in time in fact at 10 to 10. I went out to the checkin and asked if she could help. She looked at me a shrugged! She needs a crash course in customer service

Recently gave birth here and although my birth didn’t go as expected, the team I had made sure that I was very comfortable! Special thanks to Erin in Labor and delivery!! She had just became a nurse but you would’ve thought she’s been one her whole career! She was so loving and caring!! Also Dr. McCleeves, awesome Dr! Special thanks to Bria and Michelle in the postpartum unit, they were AMAZING!! Also a special thanks to the anesthesiologist on duty that day, can’t remember his name but he made my birth ALOT easier during my time in the OR. Last but not least my OB, Dr. Gleaton!! She’s amazing and very caring!! You are in great hands in any staff member here but these e people specifically made my experience amazing!

Checked myself into the ER for abdominal pain. I had seen some not so great reviews for this hospital, however after my visit I would highly suggest not listening to them. The staff was busy, yet friendly and compassionate. Joyce, Lindsay, Donna, and one other lady I wish I remembered her name (she helped me a bunch in room 27) were all wonderful. The wait times from initial intake, to seeing the doctor, having ultra sound and CT scans ordered and completed, was all extremely quick. Upon registering my information, I received a text with a link to create a patient portal account and could see all my test results as soon as they became available. The doctor even personally called the office of an OB GYN he recommended to see if they could squeeze me in for a follow up appointment. Shoutout to the CT scan team for the dad jokes to lighten my spirits! Ultimately, I thought everyone there today did a great job and I left feeling a whole lot better. It was a very positive ER experience if that’s a thing. Good job Bon Secours ER and thank you! 🙏🏼🎉
