The
absolute
worst
experience.
My
husband
was
in
severe
pain
and
was
referred
to
ER
by
his
orthopedic
surgeon
for
pain
control
and
CT
scan.
Triage
nurse
rated
him
with
low
acuity
score,
despite
10/10
pain,
highly
elevated
vitals.
Sent
back
to
waiting
room.
I
was
strong
advocate
for
my
husband,
and
asked
front
office
staff
about
why
people
were
going
ahead
of
him
who
very
not
in
acute
distress.
They
answered,
“we’re
just
techs.”
Asked
to
speak
to
higher
level.
A
nurse
came
to
speak.
(
my
husband
could
not
speak
because
his
pain
level
was
10/10,
was
grimacing
in
pain.
She
didn’t
even
look
at
him.
I
asked
her
to
look
at
the
patient.
She
did
respond
and
we
were
soon
brought
back
to
a
room.
The
nurse
assigned
was
totally
overwhelmed,
barely
greeted
us,
no
eye
contact.
The
PA
came
in
soon
to
assess
and
was
pleasant
enough,
but
overall
failed
miserably
with
managing
the
pain.
I
had
to
suggest
toradol,
which
she
agreed
to.
Considering
his
pain
as
high
as
it
was,
I
couldn’t
believe
she
didn’t
order
a
IV.
It
took
over
5
hours
to
get
pain
under
control,
and
would
have
been
even
longer
if
I
wasn’t
there
advocating
for
my
husband.
Anyone
would
do
the
same
if
they
saw
there
loved
one
scream
out
in
pain
and
tears
rolling
down
their
face.
It
was
horrible.
Very
slow
and
uncaring
response
received
by
the
overwhelmed
nurse
who
even
threatened
to
call
security
and
have
me
removed
simply
because
my
husband
could
not
advocate
for
himself.
I
had
to
ask
for
nurse
manager.
She
came
and
acted
quickly
and
was
very
understanding,
compassionate,
and
professional.
She
personally
put
in
an
IV
and
got
the
ball
rolling
while
listening
to
frustrations
and
was
attentive
to
the
patient,
received
additional
orders
for
pain
med
and
moved
us
to
a
higher
acuity
bed
and
was
assigned
a
wonderful
nurse
with
awesome
disposition
and
professionalism
that
I
am
more
accustomed
to.
Nurse
manager,
Kristin,
assured
us
we
were
in
good
hands.
No
doubt,
I
responded.
With
that
said,
pain
management
still
remained
poor…
response
times
were
way
too
long.
CT
came
5
times
but
pain
was
unmanageable
—
he
couldn’t
lie
flat
on
table
…
PA
returned
to
room
and
asked
how
it
went.
She
had
no
idea
what
was
going
on.
CT
finally
able
to
be
done
after
I
suggested
a
dose
of
IV
dilaudid
(I
am
a
RN),
which
was
ordered
and
given.
He
was
taken
to
CT
within
10
minutes
of
that
dose.
Took
over
50
minutes
before
he
came
back
to
room.
Finally
seen
a
doctor,
Dr.
Burchette,
who
was
began
his
shift
at
6pm
came
in
to
explain
imaging
results..and
we
were
to
follow
up
with
neurosurgeon
in
morning.
He
was
very
professional
and
attentive,
although
I
had
to
suggest
an
additional
dose
of
pain
med
after
my
husband
said
in
his
presence
that
he
was
becoming
very
uncomfortable
again.
Discharge
was
quick.
The
nurse
like
I
said
earlier
was
pleasant,
professional,
knowledgeable,
a
joyful
spirit.
Journey
1230
to
6:45
pm
to
get
CT
scan..
The
reason
I
gave
only
1
star
is
because
it
was
terrible
experience
overall.
Pain
management
was
frustrating
—
to
see
my
husband
suffer
unnecessarily
and
how
horrific
is
this
for
the
poor
patient!
As
my
last
assignment
in
hospital
nursing
was
served
as
a
PACU
nurse
at
Roper
downtown
for
8
years,
I
was
very
disappointed.
My
husband
very
disappointed
too.
Unacceptable…
