👍👍 The Dockyard Railway located within the grounds of Chatham Dockyard only runs on special events and the occasional weekend throughout the year. It is therefore quite the experience to see the steam engines in action. The railway is used by volunteers and does not take passengers. People often mention visit, tour, submarine,

Did the Call The Midwife tour, also went round the Docklands area. Went onto the Ocelot submarine, The Gannet and the war ship unfortunately cannot remember the name. A good day out. Tour was very informative and the roperie is well worth a visit. Didn't realise they still make ropes there.

Well worth a visit and seeing how things were. A nice tour around the submarine and the other ships. Loads to see.

Really enjoyed visiting with the family. You need a full day to get around everything. Particularly enjoyed the submarine tour, exploring the 2 boats and the food in the restaurant. The ropery was about to close when we got there so didn't see that in action, the video in the monster in the deep wasn't working, and there was a glitch on the website meaning we were initially unable to access the online prices. Overall good value for money and would visit again if back in the area.

It was great being able to look around the lifeboats and actually go inside them. Excellent place to take kids, they will love it.

Fantastic museum, lots to see and some unique attractions. Loved the rope making demonstration and submarine tour. Impressive collection of lifeboats. A bit of walking involved, allow plenty of time for your visit there's lots to see.

What a fantastic place. There is a whole heap of stuff to look at. Several interesting museums with various naval related items including a hug shed housing lifeboats, mines, tanks, a rocket... the list goes on. The architecture is breath taking, including the car park! Especially when you realize how old it all is. The dry docks are pretty awe inspiring in scale. There is a great audio visual tour explaining how wooden ships were made. They clearly knew there stuff, although this is hardly surprising given this is where HMS Victory was built. You can tour a submarine, a battleship and a sail ship. All amazingly preserved and then visit the ropery which I believe was the longest brick built structure in Europe when completed. There is loads to do for all ages. There is a lot of walking but nearly everywhere is accessible with lifts to most of the higher places and excellent pathways. There is a small cafe (it's pricey but no more than anyone else). They sell sausage rolls, sandwiches cakes etc and there is a small play area for the kids while you eat. It also happens to be in a railway shed with working steam locomotives which was pretty good too. While we were there the locomotives were moving backwards and forwards for extra theatre. I would recommend everybody see this place at least once. Absolutely amazing. 👍👍👍

We had such a great day on Saturday. We were really happy watching the dancers at the fairground stage also loved the singers. I was so pleased to see HMS MEDWAY the late ship to the fleet.

So much to enjoy at the Historic Dockyard. We took our 5 year old Grandson, it's the third time we've taken him here, lots to see and do. He especially loved the submarine (going into it this time!!) and the amazing ropery. Definitely recommend visiting and once you've bought a ticket it lasts for a year for return visits.

Excellent venue, well laid out with extensive exhibits and helpful and informative staff. Lack of appropriate disabled parking close to the entrance was the only drawback.
