Super cool! I was unaware that there were time slots for the tickets. After arriving to the lower station and waiting to buy tickets, we were told that the next available time slot was 4 hours later (3pm). Not a huge deal so we drive around finding other things to do until it was time. We came back and waited in line at 2:45 to board. Unfortunately it doesn't seem the time slots were followed by either the public or the employees at all. Only 40 people can ride at once, and it seemed like it was first come first serve. We had to wait for 3 full rounds of train cars to come and go before we finally made it. It was 3:20 by this time. Luckily it wasn't longer but I wish the time slots were followed more closely otherwise I would have just gone on when I originally bought the tickets (4 hours earlier). Apart from this, the experience was very cool, albeit a little terrifying (the steep grade almost made me slip from my seat belt-less seat). Views were amazing and the recording that was playing during the ride was informative. Once we got to the top, an Observatory deck was a couple of flights of stairs up. This was amazing to see and photograph from. All in all a good tourist centric location although I could see this as a genuine transportation type when trying to get up or down the mountain (if you live there).

We were trying to order online later in the day but didn't have availability. We decided to drive there anyway & but tickets. *NOTE: she said online buying cuts off 2 hours prior to last ride. We missed the train by a few minutes so waited for the next one, but they run every 30 minutes. It's an interesting & pretty, steep ride up the mountain. At the top is an observation deck for a panoramic view. It started snow flurries while we there & was bitter windy so we didn't stay out too long. There's old pictures to look at & the machine room. I was ecstatic to see the vintage advertisement sign for the incline is still hanging on a pole on the way down. You can only buy your tickets at the bottom, the top isn't open for tickets. Parking is $2 for all day.

I recommend going on a cool day! We went on a day it was 98, and there’s no air at all on it making it miserable. The ride down we sat in the humid cart for awhile before leaving. It’s a great experience and I would return, but only if cooler out. At the top there’s plenty of lookout spots with spectacular views & inexpensive snacks.

My family and I loved the experience! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. That incline is crazy steep but the view at the top is breathtaking! Nice gift shop with great keep sakes. The speed of the train/trolley is not that fast so if you are concerned about motion, don't worry cause it's not a roller coaster. You might feel your ears pop from the altitude and the incline and the tip will make you hold onto something but other than that, it was a great visit. I would ride again!

This attraction has more to it than you might expect. The incline railway is made of glass walls so you can enjoy the steep incline as well as the beautiful view of the city. The train ride is about 8 minutes long. At the top you have the option of viewing the city from 3 different levels. Train runs every 15-20 minutes so one can spend as much time as you want at the top. You can also get souvenirs from the gift shop. Parking costs $2 for the entire day and there is ample parking space.

Excellent local attraction. The views are incredible. Reasonable pricing. Cute gift shop. Very clean and well-maintained. There isn’t any air circulation in the rail cars, so I don’t recommend going on a hot day. There were deer and other wildlife right by the tracks. Parking is $2.45 for the whole day.

Loved the ride up the mountain!! It was definitely something fun to do and gorgeous views of the Chattanooga Valley. It wasn’t terribly hot while waiting today but if it was in the 90s or higher I’d wait till it was cooler. The trams don’t have heating or ac. Keep that in mind if your sensitive to temps.

We went there on a cloudy day and so going up, the view was full of clouds. But going down, we got a view and learned that the incline we were riding was built in 2020. Really cool experience when it is on its steepest. There is a small centennial exhibit located below the gift shop that shows how it looked through the years as well as more nostalgic and older pictures showing how it looked like before near the rest room. There is a gift shop that sells souvenirs and delicious fudge! Also it is a few minutes walk to Point Park and more gift shops about the Military National Park a few minutes from there.

Lookout Mountain Incline is an amazing train ride, we didn’t expect it to go up on top of the mountain which was surprisingly amazing. It is a well worth experience every penny pays off. Its goes straight up 72.7 degree. Up station have a gift shop, and eat in spot. You will have a great time.

We went in the summer, and the incline was a bit warm, but still fun. Once you get to the top, it's a bit of a hike to go anywhere. Most of the stores and attractions are at the bottom, so maybe next time we start at the top and ride it down and back up again. It's best to have a car for transportation around the mountain top. There is a battlefield park that was pretty empty, just a short hike from there. Great views, but not a whole lot to keep kids occupied, and it costs like 20 bucks to get in. It's should be no more than 5 dollars, honestly.

Really neat ride! But extremely hot ride in the summer! (They have heat in the winter but no AC in the summer! The views at the top are amazing! Breathtaking! Definitely worth it! Cost effective at $15/person and $7 for kids! Walk to Point Park while your at the top! Very interesting amd informative on TN history!

So awesome! I bought our tickets online and showed up a little early. I'd recommend going in the morning, it's less crowded and there's no AC in the train. The conductor was friendly and chatty, and we enjoyed the ride up. Took some good pictures at the top, there's a cute little gift shop up there, and then we headed back down. Not as scary as I thought it would be (but my palms were still sweaty)!

What’s good? In short, it’s a fun ride. This necessary mode of transportation turned tourist attraction provides great views along the way. The view from all seats are equally as good (I rode in both the front and back.). This is a great way to soak in a bit of infrastructure history. The views up top are three levels (upper and mid offering views of the city; a lower offering views of the drive engines and machinery; with stairs and an elevator). What’s bad? Not terrible, but the staff barely spoke… so obvious they did not want to be there. It’s work–I get it, but a small effort should be made to hide the displeasure.

After helping my daughter's get over their fear of the height, we had a very enjoyable time. The incline railway was a very fun experience. Lots of things to see. The view from the overlook at the top was absolutely breath taking. We also enjoyed walking to points park.

We had a delightful trip to Chattanooga Tennessee to see the changing colors of the leaves. One of our destinations was Lookout Mountain. This excursion did not disappoint! Staff was friendly and helpful. The mountain is amazing. It's hard to believe that one woman's dream has turned into such an amazing experience for so many people. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful scenery, the photo ops, the surprises around each corner. The view from the top is amazing. Put this on your Bucket List!

This place is absolutely beautiful! The line for tickets was fast and easy. The line for the rail car was ridiculous. If you have a large group plan for extra time for the rail car. You may have to wait for the next car if your far back in line. The ride up is scary and intimidating. You almost need a seat belt. The tree line got in the way but in winter I'm sure it's gorgeous! The view was amazing, best I'd seen in a long long time. Price was good, wait sucked but wasn't a reason to skip it. I recommend this for anyone that wants a great view of the city and mountains! The ride down was just as intense, but the line was better. The gift shop was great, but expensive.

This was a great experience. We had a party of 9 that road the train. It was a significant wait in line but it wasn’t bad overall. If you have a hard time with stairs this may be an issue. They do allow wheelchairs on board. You ride up to the top of the mountain and you can go into the gift shop and the overlook. I’m glad that we experienced this while in Chattanooga.

The view was awesome. The ride up was a little hairy. The ride down was much better. After waiting to pay for parking, we waited in line to pay for the ride. Then we waited some more in line to ride. Then, at the top, we waited to ride back down. If you have 2 or more hours to kill, it's not bad. It seems to me that they could include the parking in the price of admission. Also, the binoculars at the top of the lookout took our money, but they didn't work. Again, just charge a dollar extra and make those binoculars free.

This is definitely the worlds most steepest inclined train. You must try this at least once in life time. Great views. It goes nice slow and you can enjoy the views. Once you reach on top mountain in same building there is observation tower and you can see the top view and there is a gift and snack shop.

We enjoyed it as a unique trip up the mountain- but pricey if you have a full family- crumpies ice cream was a great treat after- enjoyed it but likely won’t come again! We walked few blocks to the point park - perfect half day trip while in area. Snack bar up top is literally just junk food . Still we enjoyed our morning!!

We have ridden a few of these in the past especially while we visited the mountains in Colorado and exploring Gatlinburg but this was a different experience. The entire railway has a steep incline inside the cabin which gives you a true depth experience when going up the mountain. It is non A/C ride so I would wear light clothing to avoid sweating to death. The all glass gives you panoramic views of the city when you reach the top which is something to see. The observations deck at the top of the mountain once you reach the gift shop is worth checking out. Parking is easy and the lines were not long. Highly recommend for kids or new couples who are out on adventures!!!

This train takes about ten minutes to get to the top and the incline is steep!! I was here around 3:30pm on a 94 degree day, the train was basically a hot box and literally 100 degrees and it doesn’t have air conditioning or even a fan. It’s uncomfortable, so I would recommend either a morning or a cooler day, but at least bring water and a fan if you can!! At the top is a store and several observation decks. Very cool experience with a great view!

We went during at 3:00 on a Thursday, so there was not much of a wait. I am not sure how busy it gets on the weekend. The trip lasts eight minutes and the cars pass in the middle, so there wasn't much wait to go up or down for us. The staff was friendly and helpful. There are two decks to view from up top and the view was very nice. I enjoyed being able to sit up there and enjoy the view and breeze. The have gift shops and ice cream at the upper and lower stations.

So much fun! The aerial at the top is just amazing and the large glass windows on the trolley let you see the entirety on the ascend and descend!! Just a pit stop on the way to Ruby falls which is my next recommendation!

This was nice, and the Incline/Decline truly surreal. I took alot of photos because I was TRYING to get the true intensity of the slope. I didn't nail it, but some of them give you an idea of what you'll experience. The view was beautiful Worth the small amount of money they charge 💰 On the down side, there IS NO AIR-CONDITIONING, So please be conscious of those with infants and elderly.

This was great! We went up a mile up a fairly steep hil. This was pretty cool because you're going up a fairly steep hill pretty slow and it's a pretty climb. When you get to the top, you can see for miles and the views are beautiful. I def recommend doing this if you're in Chattanooga.

We really enjoyed this attraction. It was our main reason for visiting Chattanooga on our way to Nashville. Very pleasant staff. Comfortable ride and awesome view from Lookout Mountain. You get a voice-over guide during the trip. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather. There is a nice souvenir shop and snack store at the top. Lots of historic photos on the walls of the Lookout building.

I’m afraid of heights so the ride up was a bit scary but I survived 🤪 the cabin was a bit stuffy since there wasn’t much air flowing, so that was about the only annoyance I had. Other than that we enjoyed ourselves. The view on top was spectacular! You could bring a picnic and just enjoy the view. Once you’re on top you can stay as long as you want until the he last train back. Parking is not free, I think it was under $5. The train did accommodate our baby stroller. You just park the base and then take the baby out in its seat. There are bathrooms on top and snacks and drinks and a gift shop. We walked around the neighborhood and checked out Point Park down the street.

I think it was worth the $15 for the ride, but I have no desire to ever do it again. There are homes basically the whole way up and the top is easily accessible by car, so it doesn't really take you anywhere special. The views are pretty at the top, and I am glad we rode the train up to the top.

  • 3/5 Ashley M. 9 months ago on Google
Unfortunately this didn’t live up to my expectations. The $15 that you pay is ONLY to ride up and back down on the extremely hot and oil smelly rail car. Everything at the top of the railway you can do by driving up. There’s a lot more to do at the top as well that’s three blocks from it. This would have been the first thing that I took off my list had I known more. You could even go to the rail car on the bottom and take pictures on the one in the yard. A fan or air conditioner would make this much more appealing. Perhaps the driver giving a little history discussion would have been nice also.

Experience in the incline railway is good, you have to wait for over 20 minutes in weekends. And it’s pretty hot now, carrying water is necessary. The view on the top is okay, temperature was really high when we went so it want great. The incline rail mechanism is impressive.

If you love trains then you will love this awesome experience! Yes you go up and then you come down! But it’s fun and really not scary. It goes slow enough to be relaxing and the gift shop with snacks at the top has some spectacular views. Highly recommend this awesome attraction!

The ticketing process of online purchase PLUS check-in when we got there was crazy. Not to mention the time stamp didn't mean anything. The ride itself was good. Have to pay money to get into the National Park Service area at the top. Also have to pay for parking. I would pick Rock City over this attraction.

"Lookout Mountain is a must-visit destination in Chattanooga. It is the home of a national park on the summit of the mountain. There are numerous trails and viewing areas, offering stunning views of the valley and many opportunities for exploration. It is a beautiful place with a rich history."

Nice ride, gift shop and amazing view! Highly recommended walking to the Point Park, walk around and make sure to look for Ranger Jeremy’s presentation!! He was amazing! I gave 4 stars because we have to pay for the park as well. With out Ranger Jeremy it would not have been worth the additional fee.

This excursion should be avoided in hot summer months because of the heat and crowd. The trolley card has no air conditioning or flow. We went on July 8 at 1 pm and waited for 55 minutes. The view is not that breathtaking as our cabin in mountains. Then you have to wait again to come down on trolley car. When we left the parking lot it was 3:30pm. So the whole process took 2.5 hours.

The Incline Railroad is an absolute must-visit attraction for anyone visiting the beautiful city of Chattanooga. This iconic railroad offers a one-of-a-kind experience that is both thrilling and educational, making it the perfect activity for families, couples, and solo travelers alike. The ride on the Incline Railroad is a truly unique experience. The railroad takes you up Lookout Mountain, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery along the way. The incline is steep, which only adds to the excitement and thrill of the ride. The views from the top of Lookout Mountain are simply spectacular, and you can see for miles in every direction. In addition to the amazing views, the Incline Railroad also offers a wealth of educational information about the history of Chattanooga and the railroad itself. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they are always happy to answer any questions you may have. Overall, the Incline Railroad is a fantastic attraction that is not to be missed. Whether you're looking for an exciting adventure or simply want to take in some breathtaking views of Chattanooga, this iconic railroad is the perfect choice. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Excellent experience! Lots of parking, buying a ticket was quick and easy, the bathrooms were clean, the photo people were helpful, the conductors are friendly, and we didn't feel rushed or anything. The day was clear and the overlooks were beautiful!

It was so nice ! There were many international tourists. The slope was very steep so I felt scared to climb up but I could see beautiful scenery from the train. Also the view from the top was so great.

  • 5/5 Nicole M. 9 months ago on Google
Make sure you reserve your spot ahead of time. There is no guarantee you will ride if you just pop up. We did wait longer than expected as we did get tickets for a certain time and didn't get going until about 15, 20 minutes later. However, this was an adventure, yet not too much that it was overwhelming. Going up the mountain was not too bad until you got to the steep part. That's when you may want to hold on a bit. A little nerve-wracking, how ever going down was a little more intense. You can really see how steep you are because you are now facing forward. It's a must do once in your lifetime you won't regret it because the view at the top is like nothing else. Beautiful!!!

An amazing ride stright up the side of Lookout Mountain! Safe and a fair price to enjoy this technology. Cars are clean and comfortable but, no AC! Great views from the top and a short walk to Point Park with great views of Chattanooga and the valley below.

  • 5/5 Miriam A. 8 months ago on Google
Wow! This incline railway was so great! It was a little scary at first going up we didn’t know the incline was that high but the views were amazing. It transports every 20 mins. Suggest to get there earlier in the day since we arrived at 4:00 pm and the park and other attractions up the hill closes at 5:00 pm we were short on time Definitely worth the ride ! Highly recommend it .

  • 5/5 Debosmita D. 8 months ago on Google
A must visit place!! Highly recommend this exciting train ride. There was a bit of queue to get in but otherwise it was a pretty smooth ride with the views of the beautiful mountains. Highly recommended to buy the tickets online early on your day of visit and grab physical copies of the tickets once you reach there. The train takes you high up in the mountain and has an observation deck and stores for you to buy souvenirs and munch something in case you are hungry.

  • 4/5 Barry K. 9 months ago on Google
10 minute backward incline ride up the mountain and 10 minutes back when you're ready. If you're going in the summer, be sure to go early in the morning because there's no air conditioning in that car. You're at the mercy of a breeze through the open windows. There's a nice gift shop at the top and snack bar as well. The views are great, but as one poster said, "they're much better at Rock City."
