Absolutely Gorgeous, Historical and Elegant. For anyone who has left less than appealing reviews, I assure you that they didn't have the full experience or stayed in the other part of the hotel. We stayed in the towers, and it was exquisitely decorated, clean, inviting and, had an Amazing bathroom. Bed was comfortable, views were beautiful and it just made you want to stay longer! The hotel itself boasted the Silver Ballroom, beautiful sitting areas such as their bar, billiards room, library and beautifully placed nooks throughout the hotel for relaxing conversations or moments of silence. Their antique collection is overflowing and beckons you to come and enjoy their energetic energy filled with history and stories. Although I expected, but didn't know for a fact while I was there, they have reported ghostly encounters and a ghost tour (which I would have loved) as well as general informational tours. This is a must, and I will definitely be back to experience more.

I have absolutely no complaints our stay was awesome. We received an upgrade upon arrival because we were celebrating our wedding anniversary the room was very nice the bathroom was beautifully decorated. I love the nostalgia of the hotel. Had plenty of places to take beautiful pics. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The service was spot on. I would recommend this place and would definitely stay again!šŸ˜Š

Absolutely horrible. Service was atrocious. The bar closed early. And thereā€™s a stupid fee for dogs and animals when thereā€™s never been a fee before. This is outrageous. Iā€™ve been staying here for over seven years on our journey to the north. The bathroom is disgusting and for $300 a night. This is absolutely egregious. There has never been a fee for animals before and they sprung this upon me at 11 oā€™clock at night while we stumbled in your after a long car ride. Definitely needs new management.

At first the $24 parking fee for the Vallet parking seemed high, however it turned out to be a wonderful and fast service and worth every penny. After the Hampton had screwed up our reservations at a time there was not another room available in downtown Chattanooga, the front desk staff bent over backwards to get me a beautiful room. One of the last two. The fine dinning was the highlight of a wonderful weekend. Rooms were cleaned daily and to perfection. My only complaint was the water pressure or the shower head in room 813, it simply was insufficient. Every thing else was beyond expectations therefore, I could not in good conscious down grade the hotel. I can not address the room service, since I did not use it.

Gorgeous hotel, and affordable, restaurant is incredible, but, if you want to be 5 star, ACT 5 star. From the beginning, no one to take bags or check bags. Just 2 teenage valet parkers staring at their phones. They couldn't even tell us how to get to the interstate when we checked out. Also, try a dress code. Depressing walking into a very nice bar and all the other patrons are slobs looking for happy hour specials. Man up, have standards!

Immensely enjoyed our stay at Read House. Our room was spacious and well appointed. The bathroom was gorgeous with a huge walk in shower, elegant tile work and every surface gleamed. I donā€™t know what type of mattress they use there but it was like sleeping on a cloud! I would love to know what they use. Best nightā€™s sleep of my life! The hotel itself is just beautiful and the staff is so welcoming and inviting. The very definition of customer service! From the valet parking staff, to the front desk, and the bellmen Matt and John in their gold vests and bowler hats, everyone was so friendly and accommodating. And donā€™t miss the haunted room tour. It really is fun!!I would stay here again at the drop of a (bowler) hat! Loved it!ā¤ļø

Unfortunately, my stay at The Read House fell short of expectations. The front desk staff displayed a lack of enthusiasm and treated me as a second-class customer, which was disappointing. Additionally, the hotel seemed to be overrun with tweens, creating a noisy and chaotic atmosphere. Furthermore, the carpet in our Premier king room had noticeable stains, which affected the overall cleanliness. Regrettably, I cannot recommend The Read House based on my experience. The valet service was incredibly helpful, making my stay hassle-free. The hotelā€™s location was fantastic, with convenient access to nearby attractions. One highlight was having a Starbucks inside the hotel, which was convenient for my morning coffee fix.

Iā€™ve stayed in some lovely places in New York City, Chicago, Nashville, and others, but the Read House is far and away the most beautiful hotel Iā€™ve ever stayed in. I felt as though I was transported back in time to the glitter and glitz of the 1920ā€™s. The common areas of the hotel have been restored to the beauty of the Jazz Age. Make sure to spend some time admiring the small library with vintage books and a Phonograph, the shoe shine station, and the old telephone booths. You absolutely must take a walk around the Mezzanine and get a peep of the silver ballroom and elaborate chandeliers and the vintage mail chute. Hop down to the ā€œjuice jointā€ and get a couple glasses of champagne. The bartenders dress in ā€˜20s style with the women in heavily beaded flapper dresses and the men in sharp vests. We stayed in a King Suite in the tower and the room was absolutely the catā€™s pajamas! Lovely, plush furniture, and swanky style, restored to classic Art Deco style. The bathrooms were particularly gorgeous with black and white tiled floors. The room had modern comforts while still maintaining a historic feel. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Make sure to book directly with the hotel!

This was my second time staying at this hotel and this stay was even better than the first. This hotel is an experience. Its beautiful, full of history. My only complaints or rather wishes are that I wish there were more than two people checking guests in and more people working in valet. The lines can get quite long. Other than that, I still give 5 stars because it's almost perfect. This hotel is truly unique and I simply adore it. I would come here again and again and recommend it to EVERYONE.

Stayed on the historical side, the rooms were gorgeous and roomy. It matched the virtual tour completely. The privacy button was a nice little perk. Bridgertons restaurant was delicious and the service impeccable. The Starbucks was larger than most hotel options! Every employee I encountered from the time I pulled up to the hotel until the time I checked out was so kind, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. A great experience all around.

The Read House has provided by-far one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. After booking incredibly last minute due to a canceled reservation elsewhere for a girls' weekend, The Read House helped us book a room and a stay that far exceeded anything we could have expected! The staff was exceptional and incredibly kind, and the beauty and history of the place alone made it something we wouldn't forget anytime soon. I can't wait to come back again to visit, this time with my husband in tow. Thanks again for the best Chattanooga vacation experience! We won't forget it!

The Reed House Manor is much like any other 2-3 star hotel and priced on the high end. The atmosphere is fantastic and you're within walking distance to most things downtown as long as you are in somewhat decent shape and don't mind a 1.5-2 mile round trip. Our coffee maker did not function, a Keurigg but mechanically broken. We did not request a new one. We had mold in the bathroom and it felt small, aged, and dank. The beds were nice and linens clean. Must pay an extra $22 /night for parking but it included valet. Overall, not impressed for what we paid, something closer to downtown with a little more attention to detail would have been preferred. Again, this was for the "Manor" room, which is not the most expensive.

Stayed there for a girls trip and we had an amazing time! The Read House is such a beautiful hotel with so much history. Very close to different restaurants, shopping, and attractions. Everyone was very friendly and we loved valet, super affordable and fast. Canā€™t wait to book with them soon!

The hotel and room were both beautiful, with historic aspects preserved. The girl checking us in was such a snot; We watched her demeanor change between guests she was checking in. Paying $24 for parking really is a pet-peeve as well. IMO, a parking space should be included with the room with valet being optional. There was a fridge in the room, but no microwave. The bed was very comfortable. The location is great, with the free shuttle service right outside.

The room was spotless and beautifully designed for quiet movement coming in late while a companion sleeps (soft close drawers and soft pocket doors). Beautiful, clean, roomy bathroom. I have dined in the restaurant several times and had oysters in the bar twice. Great experience each time. Top notch service and all food executed *perfectly* every time. The cocktails are delicious, especially the signature cocktail of flavored vodka, raspberry, and seltzer. It seems to be a gorgeous, well-run historic hotel. So why do so many people who stay there not respect the place? If the servers are wearing white jackets, take off your ball hat in the restaurant. If itā€™s an historic downtown hotel, donā€™t walk through the lobby barefoot in a bikini. I donā€™t know the answer to this conundrum, but I sure hope this fine hotel continues to stand the test of time. I will be back asap for another cocktail and a restful stay.

We stayed from 11/10-11/13 for our son's 40th birthday. Our room was very nice, well appointed. Housekeeping was excellent. We used the valet parking since my wife has mobility problems. Those were hard working young men! Location to everything we did in Chattanooga was excellent. I would recommend The Read House to anyone.

Absolutely beautiful hotel! Stayed here for a business trip and couldnā€™t have been happier I did. The service was great and everyone was friendly and helpful. The billiard room is a great place to relax after work and have a few great cocktails. I will definitely make this my regular hotel when I travel to Chattanooga!

11/18/2023 DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 530!! When you walk in, there is a musty, moldy smell. At first site things looked OK, but when you are in the room, you begin to wheeze and cough. There is definetly something drastically wrong with that room! We had our pup so we had to stay in the Manor side. The bathroom was horrendous with rust on the bottom of the door, the shower curtain bar was sagging in the middle and barely attached to the wall where you could not even close the curtain, water would run out onto the floor and we had to mop it up with our bath towels. The bathroom floor tiles looked like they had never been cleaned and I would not walk in there barefooted. SEE THE PIC! Calking along the shower area was peeling and smudged where it appeared to be placed by a toddler. The Soap holder in the shower was missing screws, and falling off the tile. The shower head was disgusting with scum build up and some of the pin holes where the water is to comes out was blocked. Although the entry of the Hotel was beautifully dressed with Christmas decor, there was a sewer smell through out which caused nauseousness. We complained to the Front Desk Manager and all they would do is credit us partial for the room. We wanted our full refund, but they would not credit us! We ended up canceling our return trip because of all the health concerns!! DO NOT STAY HERE! DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 530!

The moment we showed up the staff was very nice! The valet brought our bags all the way to our room! Very nice man! Great way to start our vacation! I had a few to many at the bar and they actually helped me back to my room! ( In a nice way!) The staff overall seemed to love their job! Definitely will come back!

We absolutely loved our first time stay here! It was a beautiful location. The staff and accommodations were wonderful. Did I mention there is an attached Starbucks? Bridgemanā€™s was a great fine dining option - sit at the bar and let Alan order for you!

Amazing stay at the Read house with middle and high school aged kids. Service was great! Valet was quick and affordable. Great location to walk to restaurants and down to the river. So convenient to have Starbucks attached to the hotel for morning coffee and breakfast run. Would definitely stay again! We didn't have time to do the haunted room tour but it was fun to feel a little haunted during our stay! Only couple of things to mention: the indoor pool was very nice but cold. Kids could only stay in for a little bit. And the water pressure in our shower was non-existent. Showers took much longer for this reason, but the water was warm. All in all a great stay!

Stayed here during Thanksgiving weekend. Weā€™ve stayed at other Chattanooga hotels, but this experience was unique. This beautiful hotel transports you back to the 1920ā€™s, even the Manor side. The room was comfortable and the service from the valets to the front desk was friendly and efficient. One shout-out in particular-my son and his wife love a good ghost story (they used to host a Horror podcast) and were very interested in room 311. We asked if we could join a ghost tour but was told the last one was already booked solid. The desk clerk suggested we go up there to see if we could at least peek in. Well, John was just finishing up his tour and as he still had a few minutes before the next one, was kind enough to give us the ā€œcliff notesā€ version. We were delighted with this, so a BIG thank you to John!

My wife and I usually play it safe with hotels and find the nearest Marriott. However, on this trip we went outside of the box and chose READ HOUSE because there was a great deal on a room and it had excellent ratings. We COULD NOT have made a better choice. #1 - Customer service - Read House clearly remembers a time when customer service mattered. When I approached the front desk, I was regretfully informed that they were having issues with the elevator in the manor side and they actually seemed apologetic. They then offered to move my family to the tower side, into what I can only assume was an upgraded room. #2 - Quality Rooms -When my wife entered the room, she turned around and said something to the effect of...how the heck did you get this room?? It was clean, spacious, and dare I say luxurious? #3 - Theme - Read House is old...like 150 y.o. old...which means it has history. They have embraced that history, including playing to the haunted theme...which my family LOVED. They have historical "blurbs" written throughout the ground floor; the artwork throughout the building is spooky and meticulously curated to play to the murder that played out there; and they give tours of a beautifully preserved room where it happened. Finally, back to service, they generally give tours of said room at night, but when my wife asked for that information, the bell hop said that he'd love to give us the tour right then...a personal tour on our time? Who does that anymore? We later asked if there was a store nearby to buy some water and the front desk informed us that they provided it for free...and then asked how many and if we preferred refrigerated or not. Throughout our stay, they gave us ~10 water bottles...for free. My family now wants to return to Chatenooga...not to see the sights or hike the mountains...but so they can stay in the hotel again. 5 Stars!

Our stay at The Read House was excellent. The history of the hotel is rich and fascinating. We loved our room, the views of downtown and Lookout Mountain were perfect, plus the location was very convenient. The valet service was great as well. We wish we couldā€™ve stayed longer than just the weekend!

It was an interesting place to stay. The fancy in front and the "regular " in back. We're obviously regular people. The valets were polite and gladly parked your car for $20+ . The interior of the lobby was 1st class beautiful.

  • 3/5 Julie S. 11 months ago on Google
The lobby, bar, fitness center and pool area were spectacular. Truly a gem of national history and architecture. However, the rooms were NOWHERE worth the $300+ price tag. The window unit a/c was so loud, and the walls were paper thin. We could hear every door open and close and our neighbors arguing. The bathroom tub had chips all over it and looked dingy and old. Bar area was swanky and cool - very eclectic furnishings and historic pictures. The valets worked their tails off and were so kind. The best part is the location and proximity to riverfront venues, fun eateries and the highway. Come for a fun drink but maybe stay somewhere else.

I loved my stay! This hotel is so cool, ask the front desk for a free tour of room 311! The room carpet was a little dirty (mostly in between the bed and side table) and thereā€™s no microwave and the keurig didnā€™t work but everything else was amazing! All staff members were really great, super friendly! I do have to warn you thereā€™s some aggressive panhandlers especially after dark outside of Starbucks and near the trolley area so be careful! Speaking of the trolley, be sure to use it, the city offers it free for everyone and all the trolley operators are super nice and helpful! All in all I highly recommend this hotel, when you first step into the lobby itā€™s a whole different vibe! Canā€™t wait to go back!

The beds were extremely comfortable. The rooms were very nice. I had a room I booked with Travel Zoo, which put me on the manor side, meaning no view and an opportunity for them to upsell. We were in no way unhappy with the room. The restaurant was out of this world good. The vallet were expedient and courteous. All in all a nice stay.

Very cool atmosphere! The rooms in the historic tower (mostly one King bed) were stunning, very spacious, and carried the same atmosphere as the lobby area. Highly recommend staying in the historic tower if you go! The rooms in "The Manor" aren't as nice (I think they're mostly two double beds). But they were still clean, comfortable, and overall good. The Starbucks down stairs was convenient for grabbing a quick bite/drink in the morning.

This hotel is absolutely STUNNING. The immaculate detail put into this renovationā€¦from the music to the light fixtures to the wainscoting to the drapery to the artworkā€¦just wow. Riley at the front desk when we checked in around midnight was wonderful. A historic masterpiece with the air of 1800ā€™s still ever present throughout. Someone really nailed the vision for this gorgeous piece of art. Highly underrated. It is a pleasure to see a unique hotel like this exists amidst a surplus of generic, thoughtless hospitality. Austin was a wonderful tour guide for room 311. Most definitely a must visit.

One of the best hotels we have stayed in! This hotel was recently refurbished and is in excellent condition. They did an excellent job restoring its rich history. The room was one of the cleanest we have stayed in. Great temperature control, bathroom was huge, tile work and shower top notch! The staff is also very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay again next time we visit Chattanooga!

The building and decor is gorgeous and takes you back to the 1920s. We stayed in one of the towers. The room was spacious and clean. We enjoyed the ghost tour of room 311. The front desk was also extremely helpful offering tips about the area. The only negatives were that our phones could not connect with their streaming service and someone broke the charger in the room. We would absolutely stay here again!

I believe the hotel is beautiful. Our TV kept cutting out and coming back about every 10 to 15 minutes. I do not know why they show a girl drinking near the pool when drinks are not allowed at the pool according to their rules, so yeah. The pool was nice but a little cold. It would have been nice if heated, but that is only my opinion and not stated on their website. The food in the restaurant is goodish, but not great. The price is too high for the quality of the food. They brag about the quality of the steaks so it must be the talent of the person cooking the steaks. I prefer Texas Roadhouse bone in Ribeye. It has a lot more flavor and more juicy. My wife did like the mashed potatoes. I did like the hotel, but not the idiot that pulled the fire alarm at midnight that made all of us leave the hotel and stand on the sidewalk until all the firefighters said it was a false alarm and safe to return to our rooms. I never did get back to sleep and my blood pressure was through the roof, so not very relaxing.
