Checked in and was allocated a room which haven't been cleaned and the member of staff came running after us to inform us they made a mistake. These things happen so it wasn't a big issue for us. Once in our right room we headed straight out and then at this point I received an email stating that the restaurant was closed for the duration of our stay. Not great communication as I would have booked another Premier inn just down the road have known this before hand or even to be told of this as checking in might have been better. So not happy with this as it made us feel like they just wanted our money before telling us about what we don't have available. The bed wasn't the best as it dipped in the middle and creaked with every move so wasn't the best sleep we had. We normally like Premier inns because of the comfort of the bed and its always has a restaurant for something to eat. But guess both our trusty reasons for booking at a Premier Inn were not met. Other then that staff were friendly and location was good.

This is a clean, friendly and satisfactory example of the chain. Rooms are purpose-built and very clean. The lift was working and the room was clean and comfortable with functioning heating. Above all, the staff could not be more kind, professional, and courteous. I'm a fussy customer and I do present them with challenges and they have been faultless. My previous stay in January was the same. The only problem on this occasion was a long wait for food, but the staff were working extremely hard and we figured that the young duty manager was handling things as well as could be expected. If we had booked earlier, we would have been ahead of the rush. Or if we had gone out for food elsewhere, our stay would have been perfect for a budget hotel. Edge of city location means easy arrival and free parking.

We regularly use Premier Inns so have several to compare this with. Helpful manager and staff but the whole hotel needs an update and a deep clean although our towels and bedding were crisp and white. Too noisy to sleep with the window open which could have been a problem had the weather been any warmer. The environment around the hotel is not attractive and very close to the busy A12. We had not been notified that the restaurant wasn't in use (except for breakfast) so had to survive on a Mcdonalds meal at 3.00 on arrival and a M&S sandwich from the garage shop for our tea/supper. The manager apologised and reimbursed our meal deal costs and gave us complimentary breakfasts which were well cooked and swiftly delivered. She thought we had been notified of the restaurant closure before we arrived but we hadn't been.

Room was reasonably clean however our room was absolutely roasting and was 28 degrees all night which is impossible to sleep in especially with cheap polyester sheets. Only stayed here for convenience but wouldn't stay here again. Staff fairly friendly and helpful.

No air con in a room that cost over £100. Could barely sleep through the heat. Breakfast was fine and the staff were all great, I just get the impression they are spread a bit thin. The room was also quite tired and not sufficiently cleaned before arrival.

My dad stay there for one night when he came visit me, and he has register his number plate in the front desk, but then he recieved a fine from the car park which say the drop off time is only 10mins. Please avoid staying in this place if you need to park there. They will try to rip you off by getting you fine from car park. Maybe they have no business so they have to find another way to earn that money. My dad try to appeal but they have rejected him, so I have to come and leave a comment in here to avoid another victim from being rip off.

The evening staff, were 100 times better then the morning staff. The morning staff couldn't care less.. the breakfast was poor. Went to mention it.. and no one was interested But in contrast the staff in the evening were 100 times better, and the evening food lovely.

OK, the hotel is very tired. 4 star food and bar 4 star staff 1 star rooms 1 star breakfast service Food in general is good along with the staff, but the rooms are very tatty and tired. Also, the breakfast service is terrible. I don't want to order breakfast and have it served to me, I want to pick it myself from the hot plats.

Hotel was nice, staff were friendly, food was very good. Bedroom would benefit from air conditioning as it was very stuffy.

Not for me, I'm afraid. 2 staff members were banging on my door at 10 pm, then rudely told me that I and another had an outstanding bill, I was very confused as work has already paid for the stay and meal deal. We apparently picked one of the extra food items off the menu. My outstanding bill was for £6. They demanded I got dressed, come downstairs, and pay the £6 bill, be mindful though that I was still booked in for the night the very next day, so it's not like I was going anywhere.

This hotel is in need of refurbishment and air conditioning as room very hot. Bed clean and comfortable. Bathroom clean but no hot water whatsoever so had to shower in tepid water. Breakfast was busy but staff were doing their best and were welcoming and pleasant Premier you need to refurb and employ more staff

I stay in Premier Inns every week with work out of the 100 or so I've stayed in this is poor. Turned up at 6pm after work hungry to be told unfortunately the restaurant was closed so they wouldn't be able to honor the meal deal my company had paid for. Then went to my room it was red hot 28 degrees, considering outside was only about 20 degrees. And the widow barely opens. Couldn't cool the room down at all. No dinner no breakfast no sleep.

Great staff I think it’s the manager Brooke she is really kind and supportive to guests and staff! 5 stars for her. Only issue we found was the room was very hot even with a fan. The weather was not even hot so not sure what it would be like on a Hot Aug night. But I see prem inn have this covered in there good night sleep contract ie you can’t get a refund for this issue. So be warned!

I've stayed here multiple times with work now and felt the need to leave a review. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and there is always such a nice atmosphere when they check you in, as well as in the bar and restaurant area. It's all very efficient and the food is always speedy and delicious. I stay in a lot of hotels for work and I look forward to staying in this one the most.

All the rooms at the back of the hotel are next to a busy road. I was woken up at 4.30am by the first HGV driving past. The Duty Manager in the morning offered no solution apart from saying 'you should of asked for a room at the front'. Please note you have to pay an additional £5 to park in the hotel car park. I will not be going back to this Premier Inn.

Really disgusting and disappointing that every time you walk in and out of this hotel, you have to pass through the cloud from all the smokers. Why not move the smoking area AWAY from the main entrance? Doesn’t help that the parking payment machine is amongst it as well. Hotel would’ve been fine if not for this issue. Totally put me off staying here for work next time.

Service from the staff was helpful and friendly, and food in the restaurant was very nice as well as breakfast 🥞🍳. It nice to use the premier Inn restaurant rather than look for one near by.

The room was freezing when I arrived at 10pm as the window had been left open. The bed was very comfortable but the pillows were a bit thin and hard. The room was one of the older ones I think but very clean. The bathroom extractor was very noisy although it did turn off quickly. The fire alarm went off at about 6am which was a bit of a shock awakening😂 luckily it soon went off!

Good size room, mattress was really comfortable but pillows really hard and flat so ruined my nights sleep. Room very clean but no air con, just a very noisy fan. View from window was a brick wall which was literally 6ft in front of my window. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Room was ok but as pic of bed shows needs some upgrading. Breakfast was a fiasco, continental wasnt ever full, hot is ok but took a while. Service pretty rubbish. Ok for 1 night and definitely breakfast at McDonald's 1 minute walk away if we stay again.

Great for fire alarm lovers! Stayed here for 4 days and the fire alarm went off on 3 of those days. Early in the morning, in the evening it does it anytime. Almost seems like a dialy occurance judging by the staff reaction to it. The Chef slept in one morning so there was no hot breakfast even though everyone had paid for it. Pretty dated place, food isn't amazing, breakfast is pretty disgusting.

The most unbelievably hot room I've ever experienced. No air con, and whole upper floor is a sauna. Fan didn't change a thing. Window opening limited so almost zero breeze in evening, besides noise from traffic and nearby train track meant that was a non-starter anyway. 30º in room at 23:30 in late July. Would have asked for a room-change but sought alternatives for this trip so didn't need to stay another night in that oven. Avoid this hotel, find one with air con in the summer

I would never stay at this hotel again, the hotel is poorly run and a clear lack of management. The rooms, lobby etc are very dirty and very run down, they have a serious lack of staff resulting in poor service in all areas. We had breakfast this morning, all we can say is poor, incredibly slow service and from what we could see one poor women was trying to deal with the entire breakfast service all on her own with what appeared to be no help from anyone which we felt sorry for, where are the management in this hotel and why are the failing to deal with obvious issues. If there are actually management running the hotel which is questionable, maybe they should roll up their sleaves and get stuck in and help, alternatively take on some staff if you do not want to loose all your clientele. A internal refurb is desperately needed.

Heating not working yet again (stay here regularly). Fire alarm went off in middle of breakfast. Breakfast sat on counter for in excess of 5 minutes before it was serves stone cold with hard eggs. Last time I came, I'd paid for breakfast and yet kitchen closed for refurb to make it a buffet -still no buffet. Town centre Premier Inn serves a far superior breakfast but has no parking. Complained to premier Inn last time and they couldn't even refund the breakfasts we couldn't have due to closure. Staff always saying they're short staffed. Poor show premier Inn -support the staff you do have with proper training. Food should be served at at least 60 degrees.

I used to stay here often many years ago so this was my first visit to this hotel for a while. The room was freezing, eventually a member of staff found us a heater. We booked breakfast which on my last visit was in the pub next door. They now have a breakfast room which was manic, over packed, and oppressive. Sunday morning breakfasts should be enjoyed, I could not wait to get out, so a waste of money. Finally the beds were always very comfortable these were not; also the previous weekend I stayed in a Premier Inn in Norwich and the mattresses were also not as comfortable. Premier Inn used to be my go to hotels as you knew you'd get a comfortable nights sleep and a good breakfast. No more it seems

Exceptional staff, nothing too much trouble. But a tired hotel that hasn't had any money spent on it for a while, which is unfortunate. Beds as always comfy plus clean fluffy towels.

  • 4/5 J F. 1 year ago on Google
No air conditioning which we knew when we booked. Rooms unbearable but the staff were very kind and provided jugs of iced water all weekend in 38 degree heat! Room and bathroom a bit run down but bed very clean and very comfortable.

Not a bad thing to say about this Premier Inn We are here right now and please people don’t assume the worst with the bad reviews…I nearly did as I read them last night before we arrived today, but thankfully I’m so glad I ignored them…if you want 5 star service then book a 5 star hotel…honestly I think most people leave bad reviews hoping they might get a refund…get a life you rude people…we are absolutely impressed with this premier inn…when I booked 2 weeks ago it said no air con on their website which was fine…didn’t need it in October anyway ! No 5 star hotel would have coped with the hot weather we had in July so why people moaned is beyond me…it was weather this country doesn’t usually get so no one is ever prepared for it…It also said the restaurant wasn’t serving dinner which was also fine we were prepared to eat out, but to our surprise it had reopened and omg we had a fabulous 3 course meal reasonably priced within their meal deal with a few upgrades added as extra…the staff were absolutely amazing, first class service from all that were on duty…in my eyes they went above and beyond doing the bar, restaurant and reception…well done to all of you ! Remember this hotel is on a service area on the busy A12 in Chelmsford so yes there will be traffic possibly all night I don’t know we haven’t gone to sleep yet but we are prepared for that as we knew the location when we booked…for gods sake you moaners if you want a peaceful sleep go book a premier inn on the moon…can’t wait for my breakfast in the morning ! Thank you Chelmsford Springfield !

Tired hotel that needs some maintenance inside and out. Rooms smell a bit musty. The bathroom needs bleach in the drains. The good Samsung TV's are here though. Hot breakfast is made to order which is good. However the food takes ages to arrive, a really long time due to a lack of staff in the kitchen. Staff numbers are low causing slow service at reception and in the restaurant. Car park is big but fills up quickly. Staff are pleasant and helpful.

It was okay but it was a hot evening and no ventilation in the room at all. A fan was supplied but not very powerful to blow the hot air around. Also we had no idea but on arrival was told they weren’t doing evening meals! Plus side breakfast was lovely.

Even having backpacked remote parts of Asia, this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Where to begin... The rooms - look like something out of a motel-based horror film. Bathrooms unbelievably tired/worn and some questionable staines on the sink and baths. The rooms (again) - if you're staying outside of -10 degree weather, the rooms are unbelievably hot. Our room registered at 29 degrees through the night, even though it was 15 outside. The windows open roughly 2 inches so it's impossible to cool the room. Location - roughly 100 meters from the A12, set amongst the exceptional views of a service station. Staff - nowhere to be seen. The rest of premises - toilets in the foyer had bags of people rubbish just piled up. Restaurant was closed, although judging by the rest of the hotel probably avoided salmonella from the breakfast. Most importantly, the "Good night Guarantee" is an absolute scam. Read the T&C's and basically anything that would be a cause of a poor night sleep will not be covered. Internal noise from someone smashing about in another room, road noise, the furnace of the room - literally none of it will be covered.
