This place is like old world charm I come to know that this place serves amazing dosas And it was really really good choice to have dosa here because it was out of the world. There sambar is fantastic and the plus point is the dosa they made in ghee. What an aroma I highly recommend this place

For those who want breakfast in good quality and taste can dine in here. Poori, idli, dosa, pongal, vada, Gulab jamun and a strong filter coffee in their breakfast combo is worth having with satisfaction for 200Rs. The food was tasty and also presented nicely. The restaurant is air conditioned but for a busy place like Egmore, to my surprise it was less crowded when I had my breakfast around 9.30 during a weekday.

A good friend turned me on to Mathsya, telling me it was the best place to great South Indian vegetarian fare. He was right! From the classic So. Indian breakfast, to great veggie entrees, to delicious Chinese Hakka Noodles...all fabulous! I also had their special Udupi Thali, which was simply amazing! The staff was friendly and helpful. The Owner told me the place has been there so long, you might see your best friend's grandfather at the table next to you!

One among the oldest restaurants in this area. Popular for their vegetarian south indian cuisine. The restaurant as such is dimly lit!! Not much of a crowd during the week day!! Limited parking facility is available! The service was good. The food was steaming hot when served. Taste is really authentic. We have visited here many times. Even on the Diwali night it is open!

Newly remodeled place with lots of seating and clean. Food is great if you stick to south Indian and their specialities. The Udupi thail was my favorite along with their dosa. The starters tend to be oily and over salted. The juices and coffee are great. Helpful and attentive staff.

Recently last Friday we crossed out one restaurant from our bucket list which was pending for a long time and it was one the best decisions made. This place is a Veg lovers paradise. Rasa Vadai and Curd vadai is the best dishes available here and oh my they were so hot literally burnt my mouth and throat. Aloo 55 spicy fry was super hot and spicy and made a great starter. Mysore Bonda was good. We had Butter Masala dosa and Mysore dosa and they were good. For dessert we had Gulab Jamun Cheese Cake and it was super Tasty (Must Try) Will we visit again? Definitely A big Yesss!!! We visited late evening around 9PM and the restaurant was packed. We managed to get a seat for two but there were lots of people who came as a family and had to wait for a long time so plan your visits early. Service needs to be improved. I understand the restaurant was packed and they had to take care lots of folks. We got lucky as we sat next to the bill counter and the staff in the counter assisted us.if not for him we wouldn’t have got our orders. Payments can be made through Cash/Card/UPI transactions

Currently under renovation. But still has access through side entrance. Quality of food and pricing remains the same. One of the trustworthy vegetarian restaurants. Overall rating : 3/5 Mushroom biryani : 3.5/5 Bisi bele bhath : 4/5 Dahi Vada : 3/5

The food was perfect and tasty. They were served with minimum wait considering the fact that the restaurant was pretty busy when we came in. The service was good but could have been better. I just saw one person shuttling around attending to all the tables. This can be improved by having more waiters to attend to the people.

Don't tell me this is the same Mathysa group running T Nagar and Adyar. The place is dingy. Parking is trouble. Food is tasteless. We had tried south Indian and north Indian dishes. It was not nice. We asked for lassi and got some very sour drink. The manager said they will renovate soon and the food is tuned for a particular group and that may the reason for different taste!

An old Udupi hotel which serves above average food and the service was too slow ... We need to tell them again and again to bring the orders but some of the attenders are too smart and serve better !!! We tried the following Madras meals 6/10 Special Mathsya meals 7/10 Paneer 7/10 Mashroom pepper 8/10 Rose milk 7/10 Buttermilk 5/10 Overall not worth the hype, just give a try once maybe you would like it

If you're a vegetarian visiting Chennai, you must visit the Mathsya Vegetarian Hotel in Egmore. The restaurant offers an extensive menu of vegetarian dishes that are both delicious and affordable. The restaurant's ambiance is pleasant, and the staff are friendly and attentive. The menu includes a wide range of vegetarian dishes, from South Indian delicacies like dosa, idli, and vada to North Indian favorites like paneer butter masala and chole bhature. I highly recommend trying the thali, which is a combination of various vegetarian dishes served on a banana leaf. The food is freshly prepared, and the portions are generous. The restaurant also serves fresh juices and delicious desserts. Overall, Mathsya Vegetarian Hotel is a great choice for vegetarian food in Chennai. The quality of the food and service is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

We had been to matsaya Egmore more than a dozen times and it's still one of our favorite places for delicious South and North Indian cuisine. Service was great and the ambience is good. Would appreciate if the management can improve the restroom condition as I feel it could be restored..

Rocket Masala Dosai – A 4 feet long Dosa painted for the gormandizers in Chennai; very crispy and soft on the inside with potato curry filling; some can finish it as a ONE-MAN ARMY. Raja Raja Cholan Dosai – Expected it to be spicy but still was good with Onion-Tomato curry on the inside; sambar in specific went well with all the Dosas. Methi Dosai – Herbal, healthy with Podi spread as raindrops all around. Special Masala Papad – Typical Papad but with the veggies on top it was almost like Nachos and Salsa. Sizzler Chocolate Brownie – The most sought-after dessert for its captivating look within the frame; soft, smooth and chocolaty. Blue Curacao & Pina Colada– Sweet minty mocktail with a kick in every sip; the latter was thick but couldn’t find that taste spike as in Curacao.

Mathsya Egmore is Udupi hotel. A wide range of items are included in the Special south Indian thali for Rs.250: starting from a Soup and it ends with a dessert Icecream. Or fruit salad. The main thali has rice sambar rasam curd soup, three veg sabji, a papad, a gulob jamoon, and what not All items were good in taste. But the taste of sambar was not good. Ambience is good. Waiting time during peak hours. Restrooms and wash rooms are available. UPI payments accepted. Walkable distance from Egmore Station. Parking facility available. Room Accommodation also available.

This is again a popular Dosai and South Indian place. I ordered the litmus test dish first : idli and sambar. It turned up well. So went on to order 7-piece uthhappam, rava Dosai and ghee roast Dosai. Good stuff.

I have been visiting this restaurant for ages but I never wrote about their excellent taste. If you are looking for Udipi cuisine in chennai, this is one of the must try places. Usually we order rasam vadai, curd vadai, idly and many varieties of dosa. I love their Lunch thali too. I don’t recommend you to try their milkshakes and beverages as you wouldn’t be excited about the taste. Rest for the food are guaranteed and I am sure you will fall in love with it. Decent space restaurant with less car parking facility.

It was a bad experience at Mathsya today. I went with family for dinner and ordered the following Soup: Manchow and Tomato Starters: Nachos and Vegetable Manchurian Main course: Rasam Vada, Dosa, mini idly, and Golkonda Biryani I'll come to service and atmosphere a little later. Review of food Soups were completely bland, it felt like we were having corn starch water with boiled vegetables Nachos were supposed to come with white sauce, the quantity was so less that we had to scrape for the sauce. Upon speaking to manager, no heed was given, this is what it is was their response. Completely disappointed. Veg Manchurian was good but quantity was less for the prices they serve it for. Rasam Vada was the star of the show. Dosa, Idly was good, no complaints but nothing great to cover for the disappointing experience. Golkonda rice was good but quantity again was not worth the prices they charge. Coming to service: Get ready to request repeatedly for extra chutney and sambar. Asking once will just not pull it off. Mgmt has gone down hill, I already covered the experience with Nachos. It was as if they were doing us a favor by just serving food. Atmosphere: We were 8 people, so they gave us a corner area, it was dark and gloomy. We requested for space in a comparatively better spot but it was denied (quite rudely) All in all a very bad experience from Service to food and atmosphere, would not be going back over here again. For those who cannot eat spicy food, this place is still not recommended as the quantity and service is terrible. I did not click pictures as we were thoroughly disappointed. Would rate this 1 because that's the lowest rating available.n

Dont believe the recent fake paid reviews listed here. This place is under construction since last one month and its not listed anywhere on the business. Its definitely a great restaurant no doubt about it. I had to face the inconvenience because of the fake reviews. But looking forward to visit next time I am here.

I expected a tasty food but all were just par. Don't know how it's maintaining 4+ stars, found hair to 2 items they served, gave a bad impression first up. Ambiance is ok. So overall 3 stars for not meeting expectations.

Very good Vegetarian food, South Indian & North Indian. The thalis or individual items are awesome tasting. We especially like the North Indian food as this is one of very few places that get the authentic taste correct. The starters here must be one of best in Chennai. Service time is reasonable. There is valet service for car, as parking space is limited.

  • 3/5 Subbiya A. 2 years ago on Google
I went with an expectation of good veg food. They served a half cooked uthappam, then they replaced that with another. Taste wasn't great but not bad. Poor ambience, very poor parking facility, valet parking was not available at 8pm on Sunday. Unimaginable. Lot many restaurants offer better food with a far better ambience and parking facility.
