I got tired of waiting for Elon Musk to send me to the red planet, so I went to Cherkassy. I mean, the Dnieper in Dnieper will be smaller than the Dnieper in Cherkassy 🌊🌊🌊 the views are incredible, a lot of water, a good embankment)) The city itself has a very pleasant energy, very calm, quiet, there is no unnecessary fuss, although it was the 31st. I still haven’t figured out where the center is, but I don’t care, the city suited me and the weather helped it. We looked into the largest cathedral in Ukraine - St. Michael's Cathedral, it can accommodate 12 thousand. a person at the same time goes 72 meters into the sky, and nearby the largest bell tower in the country is also being built, 134 meters in height, the cathedral is incredibly beautiful inside, the wall paintings can be studied endlessly. In general, the Cherkasy region is finally close to me in spirit - this is Ukraine-Ukraine, the cradle of the Cossacks, the land that gave us Shevchenko and Khmelnytsky, there is extraordinary nature, dense deciduous forests and constantly jumping hills and bald mountains, local views sometimes resemble Serbia. What is it worth? Kholodny Yar Nature Reserve, a rebellious atmosphere reigns here, because it was from here that the Haidamaks of Zheleznyak and Gonta went on a bloody campaign to Uman, where they massacred up to 20 thousand people, mostly Jews and Poles. A witness to these events has survived to this day; this is an ancient oak tree (more than 1000 years old) under 9 m. in girth, when the “Ukrainian Ent” began to wither before our eyes, cow carcasses were buried under it and, to our joy, the tree came to life. In general, it’s impossible to talk about this region, there are a lot of interesting places and attractions, which are worth the names of the localities alone: Verguny, Tsybulev, Baybuzy, Khudyaki, Moshny, Stepantsy - after all, that’s how we say it)))

The memorial complex “Hill of Glory”, on top of which is the famous “Motherland” monument, was built in 1977 in memory of the city residents who died on the fronts and during the defense of Cherkassy. A favorite place for citizens and guests of the city on weekends and holidays.

A monumental monument, already at the approach one feels that time is not wasted on it. At night, it is not as attractive as during the daylight hours. If there is no fog, you can see an impressive landscape, several kilometers away from the right bank of the Dnieper. It is cold in winter, it is difficult to stay for a long time. The favorite location of those who like to watch the holidays in the Valley of Roses :)

The Hill of Glory" is a memorial complex in Ukraine in the city of Cherkasy, built in memory of the city's residents who died during the German-Soviet war. The memorial perpetuates the memory of Cherkassy people who died on the fronts and soldiers who died fighting for Cherkasy. It was built in 1965 and reconstructed into a complex in 1975. The composition is designed in large monumental forms. The wide ritual square is completed by a mound-shaped mound with granite steps, crowned with a 10-meter-high sculpture of the mother of the Motherland. In the raised right hand is a cup with the Eternal Fire, the left hand is turned forward, towards the ritual square. A high-relief composition (dimensions 20.9x2.2 m) on a battle theme and engraved with the names of 904 soldiers from Cherkasy who died during the Second World War is mounted on the granite-lined retaining wall of a semi-oval shape. Terraces lined with granite blocks lead to the top of the hill, where almost a thousand soldiers are buried. The embankment part of the hill is framed by a memorial granite wall with engraved names of the city residents who died in battle. On the retaining wall there are 5 bronze bas-reliefs, which tell about the difficult times of the war. The first depicts the militiamen of 1941, the second depicts the battle with the fascists. In the center of the bas-relief is the figure of a young soldier who, hit by a bullet, falls into the wheat. The third bas-relief shows a bayonet attack by Soviet soldiers, the fourth shows how a comrade picks up the flag from a slain standard-bearer. On the fifth, representatives of all branches of the Soviet Army are immortalized.

The memorial hall of the Museum displays marble plaques with carved names of more than 11,600 soldiers and over 200 workers of the home-front honored during the war with the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union and the Hero of Socialist Labor. On the hill beneath the museum, traditional flower shows are held. The sword of the statue was cut because the tip of the sword was higher than the cross of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra.

The monument itself is a typical monumental statue of the Soviet era, part of the "Hill of Glory" memorial complex, which destroyed the old Holy Trinity Church in order to establish it. But despite the history of this monument, the place is beautiful, with wonderful views from the top of the hill to the "Valley of Roses" and the waters of the Dnipro.

(Translated by Google) Nice, but windy, it is better not to climb in bad weather. You can look at the Dnieper, when everything will bloom, then at the roses too (Original)
