The cathedral is located next to Castle Hill, on the site where the wooden Cossack Trinity Church, built in 1671, once stood. When it fell into disrepair, a new one, also wooden, was built in 1745. In 1863, it was decided to build a stone temple instead of a wooden one a little to the side, in the place where the Hill of Glory is now located. Services were held there during the Patriotic War. During Soviet times, the church was closed, and in 1961 it was completely demolished. So the current building is the fourth Holy Trinity Cathedral. It was consecrated in 1991. Today it belongs to the UOC KP. Services are going on in the church, I went to the evening service, it was warm and cozy.

The history of the cathedral began in the 16th century, when the first Cossack wooden church was built here. The building stood for almost a century until it began to collapse. Then a new church in the baroque style was built in its place. In 1864, the construction of a large stone cathedral and a parish school was completed. Despite the Soviet anti-religious policy and great pressure from the authorities, the church worked until 1956. When it was closed, the premises were given to one of the sports organizations. In a few years, the building was destroyed. The modern Holy Trinity Cathedral was built in the late 1980s and consecrated in 1991.
