Large, spacious pub in the center of the town. Food menu is reasonable and there is a good selection of drinks. Sadly let down by a few of the clientele and the robust language.

Daily bus trips out to local places are our vacations currently, so a day trip to Chester le Street. We just had breakfast here today. Full English for him and Eggs Benedict for me, reasonably priced and plenty on the plate. Pool table available if you take teenagers. Good selection of beers, cappuccino was delicious, served with a smile - staff friendly and helpful. Would visit again.

Just moved into the area so trying the local pubs, 1st 2 bars less than £5 for 2 pints, popped into this pub £9.50 for 2 beers. I got a I.P.A. more than £5 couldn't believe it. If you want to pay a decent price for a decent pint avoid this pub proper rip off

For the avoidance of doubt, this review relates to a Sunday lunch. I booked a table the day before, asking for a table suited to someone with restricted mobility, which was duly provided. There's a good pub menu with a broad selection to choose from, and the prices were very reasonable. You had to go to the bar to place your order and make payment. When it arrived the food was hot, tasty and the portions were generous. The service was not the fastest, fortunately we were there to enjoy a slow meal - indeed the meal took two and a half hours. Still, we'd recommend the meals here.

Big pub, great staff, decent prices. Rooms aren't exactly the greatest but you get what you pay for and for nigh on 50 for 2 people per night it a great pub to get your head down. Breakfast isn't included but for £9 you can get a big english breakfast which is very nice and surprised us on how much you got. Fair warning though, the room we stayed in was ridiculously hot due to it actually being sunny outside.

Having visited a few times over the past few months, there seems to be some consistency in the poor levels of service. The staff behind the bar often ignore waiting customers while they chat amongst themselves or whoever walks up starts a conversation. You feel invisible. The staff are friendly but they are not attentive or efficient even when it isn’t busy. Waiting five minutes to be served when there are three behind the bar, one customer is being served, and you are next in line. This has happened on more than one occasion. Tables remain uncleaned forcing customers to shift glasses and rubbish to other tables. The place has potential if they up their service levels. They can then justify the expensive prices for drink.

Came here on business and the rooms are clean and well laid out, beds comfy and went downstairs to eat , great variety of menu and deliciously cooked burger , met Ian the assistant manager and Josh the bartender … great Welcone and service also the two female team members were very nice ( forgot there names ) but I can only say I’ll be back. Well done to #Blackrose pubs #premiumpub #greatfood #greatservice #comfyrooms #hotel #newcastlehotels Room was value for money and very clean and comfortable

Had lunch in the bar with Boyfriend and Brother. Boyfriend (who is a chef) was very impressed by the burgers as they were made with steak and not just mince. Good vegetarian choice.Good quality food chips were a tiny let down as just standard frozen chips and some were hard. Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. They can leave ingredients out of a dish to suit your tastes. Love the decor very stylish and welcoming. Would be happy to drink on my own there without being bothered.

5 star service great selection of beers food 5 star all staff were superb and very friendly had a live band on was Brill, would have been a 5 star across the board but rooms are very dated and in need of a make over , how ever price does reflect this, 12 o'clock at night the staff even went out and got me a pizza. Thankyou all very much

Had Christmas lunch with 2 different groups of approx 18 on 2 days last week. Staff brilliant, very welcoming. Different chef each time - both days meal cooked to perfection. Will be back next year for our Christmas lunches, and with smaller groups during the year. Love it.

Friendly staff, very clean and furnished. Good prices. That's a great place to stop for refreshments. I'd rather of stayed at hotel instead of overpriced Lumley castle.

Lovely pub, comfortable hotel room upstairs. Location is prime for bus travel for either Durham City or Newcastle City Centres. Excellent location for a home base for a weekend out.

Bar and food were great but the rooms need a little TLC. Absolutly fine for what we needed it for

  • 2/5 Chris B. 6 months ago on Google
Staff often ignore customers whilst chatting amongst themselves, signage for car park says you pay then get refund but refused refund at bar then told I was wrong about sign, walls and curtains are paper thin in the rooms so good luck getting any sleep. Staff need basic customer service training, car park signage needs updating and rooms need bringing out of the 70s

Conveniently close to Durham cricket ground. Large comfortable room, warm & quiet with a decent clean bathroom. Plenty of hot water. Great breakfast too. But take your own shampoo & hair dryer

No breakfast on a Friday. Shame. Apparently no fish either...ended up with the most expensive sausage mash and peas I've ever had and it wasn't that nice as never had Cumberland sausages for years and now I know why

Called for food and a drink food was nice but over priced for what we got and amour we got wasn’t good for the price charged & the price of a drink was a bit over the top for where it was on a run down high street wouldn’t visit again

Went in with a few mates to watch the Sunderland game as we had been drinking through chester, went in the back entrance to be greeted by a Newcastle crest on the wall.with Magpies underneath had the Newcastle game advertised no mention of Sunderland, so we went further up the road to watch it, I don't know why places try and alienate people you'd think they'd be glad of the custom.

My daughter was in the Lambton last Tuesday and was served with a cola from the pump thar tested like it had came out of a bottle of Roller Cola. I do understand that the Lambton is trying to get a better type of clientele but should start with Quality. The Lambton lacks any sort of atmosphere and will need a dedicated bar staff and a change from the old Lambton bar of the past.

Lovely pub found drinks expensive, Did not eat but looked good It's a shame drinks as expensive Pub would get more trade ,if 20p cheaper, but I do know rates in Chester le street not the best.

Regular haunt in my youth, but seems to be a big old place to fill these days if its not a weekend with cricket on. In here on a monday night, must have been no more than 10 other folk in. Beer decent enough, live football on, which was just as well because it was no atmosphere. Staff were pleasant enough, just a mighty place to look busy
