Great old pub. Decent selection of beers. Had an open fire, they've kept things really traditional. Even the lighting! It's quite moody in there, bring a candle or a lantern to see who you're speaking to.

I’ve been in Chester for 6 months and this place by far makes the best cocktails, the young lad who works here makes this an amazing experience and really brings the history to life. Not very often you see someone with this much passion. The lady working here was also made this such a present place to be. Cheers guys, be back soon

While the food menu isn't extensive, what they do serve is absolutely fantastic. My usual is the beef burger, its juicy and delicious. Served with a side of crispy fries and a coleslaw. Good selection of beer and honest food at reasonable prices. One of the best places in Chester to feed and water yourself.

Super traditional pub - something for everyone on the menu & great selection of drinks & echoing other comments - service was second to none, even after a crazy day day of rather tipsy Chester Race goers… Tom & other staff seemed to really care about customers, drinks brought to our table, piping hot food (so rare these days) & little touches like re-lighting table candles etc etc… well done - keep doing what you do so fabulously! Wish I lived closer! B.

Gorgeous sunday roast today. And they very kindly boxed up a child's portion to take to my mum, as her mobility is not good enough to get her to the pub. Lovely interior, and really helpful, efficient staff. Mum really enjoyed her takeaway roast. Thank you.

Unscheduled stop so my wife could use the loo which the young man behind the bar graciously allowed her to do. Decided to stay and have something to eat and we're both glad we did. The staff where friendly, courteous and efficient and the food was top notch, freshly cooked, hot and plenty of it!. We are so glad we stayed ( the roaring open fire on a sub zero evening might have had something to do with it too 🙂)

We visited as a family for lunch today and were greatly welcomed. The staff were very attentive. The atmosphere is homely. The food can't be beaten, it was excellent 👌 I highly recommend the hustler burger. We will be returning soon.

Excellent Olde Pub... Real Fire and Good beer. Staff all friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a visit. However.. the hanging plastic foliage and a Weird Doll in a case.... Just need to go. They add nothing to the experience.. #justsaying

Last 2 in pub, landlord came over all aggressive and tried to take our beers, explained we were finishing them, as asked by a member of staff. Then female staff member got all aggressive when we challenged manager about his aggressive attiude towards us. Spoilt a good relaxing evening in there. So make sure your not last in there, as staff want to go home, and become aggresive

Did nor read reviews and popped in as daughter likes scary stuff.. decided to eat as we were hungry. The staff member serving a very deep voiced bloke was very helpful and friendly. The food was was old school amazing and far better than the price would suggest and all home cooked. Menu is a treat to read in a haunted pub.. thanks for a great experience the staff were a credit to you. Please never paint & decorate... love the old world looks

Most excellent lunchtime thanks to Ross, who went above and beyond to give a sterling service! Cracking ales on tap with a most satisfying steak n kidney pie meal. The pub has a wonderful atmosphere, with many original features. 5 out of 5 from all 6 of us!

Loved the spooky atmosphere & stories. Make sure to ask for the folder behind the bar. Looked fab for Halloween with a themed menu. Not sure I'd brave staying though.

Great olde world pub you can feel the history of the place with the old oak beams if only they could talk.the staff are very friendly only downside is that the kitchen was being renovated at the time and would of loved to have had a meal here I'll be back.

The pub itself is a great building and the food is really nice. The haunted hotel side of it is fantastic. The experience is brilliant and staff and host are superb

Cannot comment on the rooms but came on here for a couple of drinks and two of the loveliest ladies from Liverpool served us so friendly and the pride they had doing their job was plain and refreshing to see they were fabulous what a lovely cosy pub

Lovely pub with friendly staff. Low ceilings with original old beams add to the atmosphere, well worth a visit. Very close to the heart of Chester.

What an amazing Sunday roast. Everything about this place was top notch from The moment I walked through the door. The staff behind the bar couldn’t of been more he if they tried. The food was probably one of the best Sunday Roasts I’ve had. I loved the old school feeling inside the bar area. My second visit here. Hopefully many more to come

Wasn't familiar with Chester tbh we stayed at The Travelodge and went for a wander ending up in this absolute gem of an Olde worldy pub we stayed right until we we're the last 2 there lovely ambience and we bumped into colleague's from work.

The King's Head Chester is a traditional pub nestled in the heart of Chester, boasting a cozy atmosphere and a generous selection of beverages. As a drinking establishment, it has plenty to offer for those looking to unwind with friends and enjoy a pint or two. While the ambiance and drink options at The King's Head create a welcoming environment, the food offerings are somewhat basic. The menu comprises typical pub fare, which, although satisfying, does not stand out as particularly memorable or creative. If you're looking for a more elaborate dining experience, this might not be the place for you. Additionally, during my visit, the service was notably slow, which might be a concern for those expecting a more prompt dining experience. However, for patrons who are primarily there to socialize and savor their drinks, this might not be a significant drawback.

Warm historic 1622 and absolutely beautiful. Very nice staff. I went in for the first time last week as it was raining. There was a lovely open 🔥 fire. The place has so much history. I think it's the nicest pub I have ever been to ! I had a look at the pubs YouTube channel My Haunted Hotel. It's very cool. A must visit place !

Went to stay overnight in a haunted room with my friend but beforehand spent a couple of hours in the Bar before we checked in. Had a really lovely meal, we both enjoyed it. Really well cooked and presented. Staff were really friendly and helpful too. The interior is so old and pretty too with a very cosy atmosphere.

Excellent, home cooked food. Generous portions, fresh, properly cooked veg (I.e not mushy!) & piping hot. Friendly service. Best pub grub I’ve had in ages!

Very nice atmosphere, some nice Fairy lights and greenary as decoration, which a bit more of that would look lovely... pets are allowed as there was a beautiful dog in at the time and portions of meals look more than adequate... we didn't eat but a table over the way had ordered fish and chips which looked wonderful... delightful little pub and quite quirky.

Another Chester pub with a wealth of history dating back to 1622! The architecture is a delight, as is the beers served. Plenty of real ale, supported by other beers, wines and spirits.

Lovely pub. Awesome history. And a lovely girl behind the bar who has so much local knowledge. Such a great find.

A stay to remember. Stunning listed building transporting you back in time. Ye olde pub vibes on the ground floor and the generously sized 4 poster ensuite bed rooms lack nothing. Be warned though the hotel does like to let you know that it is one of the MOST HAUNTED buildings in Chester. So we were a bit anxious getting to sleep the night we stayed but once we did we slept wonderfully. Be warned though, it is due to its timber construction, a creaky building. Breakfast was simple but fresh. Parking is available if you ask nicely.

Came in for a quick bite and a drink. Such a great sandwich and drink. Great value and would recommend it for a city snack. The beer was excellent as well. Service was excellent friendly guys running it.
