We came here for our anniversary dinner. Can't fault anything. Service, food, atmosphere all excellent. A lovely hotel in a beautiful city

I was in the city with my son, who very kindly offered to treat me to dinner. Neither of us had dined here for some years, so decided to give it a go . We waited until after 5.00pm as the " casual dining " menu looked uninspiring, but the a la carte promised more. Without going into tedious detail , the surroundings, staff ,food and wine were wonderful. We shall be back .

This place was somewhere we always wanted to stay at. Been a few times in the past, but this was a treat for both of us. Had breakfast and snacks previously but we ate our dinner here. Excellent cuisine, perfectly cooked and presented. Friendly staff and very knowledgeable about all the dishes.

Tried to get in here on Saturday, but it was too busy. Who'd have thought, leading up to Christmas 😏 We returned Sunday and were welcomed in, so we got to have our coffee and cake. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait. The service was attentive, and the ambience of The Grosvenor added to the experience. I would highly recommend the paris-brest, chocolate praline vanilla OMG "Top Notch"

This is an amazing place, the food is fabulous. Special mentions for Manager Courtney who is exemplary in her customer service, a credit to this restaurant. Ben who is an excellent waiter looked after us so well all night. Many thanks we will see you again in 2024.

Sadly this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in many a year. What should have been a lovely anniversary meal for 4 was a disaster. I can only assume it was a staff training day but the manager did her best to rectify the admitted mistakes. We had to ask multiple times for the wine list and water for the table( which was plonked unceremoniously and unopened) Our starter orders were fine and tasty, the mains were another matter altogether. Steaks were cooked incorrectly with wrong sides, the halibut when it arrived was cold and tiny. It did not arrive back in time to eat before we had finished our mains(we took as long as we could ) It may sound like I'm being fussy but believe me that's not the case. Completely prepared to put it down as a one off but I always like to give an honest review. Again I have to praise the manager who did her very best to redeem the situation and am hoping for much better on our next visit.

It was a quiet day, but after a long journey we wanted to sit outside somewhere for a chat and some relaxing. The staff here were absolutely fantastic, the cheer and humour with which they spoke and worked really put a smile on my face. Many thanks. I only bought a couple of pints, but I left in a better mood. Would recommend. Will be returning next time I'm in Chester.

Had a porterhouse steak to share which wasn’t enough for one child. The next table had a huge one. Staff gave us a free port and were embarrassed about it but did nothing We were meant to see the steak before cooking but we didn’t see a thing. We have complained to the manager but as usual no one cared. We had the proverbial “ sorry this happened to you” . Thanks for that! They ran after us saying we owed them money because we didn’t tip. They add it automatically and we deducted it. Disgraceful behaviour from such an establishment

Was rather disappointed on our recent visit. The quality of the steak was not good and had a lot of inedible sinews in it. The service was also not up to the standard you would expect of such an illustrious hotel. Ordered a glass of red wine to accompany my main course which never arrived, yet they didn't hesitate to try and charge me for it along with a presumptuous service charge that I politely requested to be removed.

My family and I had a Christmas meal here. Overall it was pleasant with good food and nice staff. One suggestion would be not to make people wait outside before the booking time. We turned up at 11:50 for a 12pm booking but were told to wait in the lobby. This felt a bit cheap- especially as the restaurant was empty. You should let people in and get them a drink.

I had lunch with my friends on a weekday. The 12% tip will be included, so we were looking forward to receiving the great customer service, but there was none. We arrived at the restaurant on time of the reservation but no one took us to a table. It was not busy at all, and we had eye contact with some waiters and waitress, but they just ignored us, so we stood there for over 5 minutes. Other customers were served fine, so we felt racism. (We are Asian) After we got the table, we asked a few questions about some wine, but the waitress had no knowledge of it and couldn't answer anything. We were surprised to see the cheap quality water bottle which we can buy it from Wilko in the fine restaurant. We hoped that at least the food would be amazing, but the main plaice dish was very sweet. Even more sweet than the egg tart, which had no flavour at all. The champagne, the starter, and the coffee were nice. The restaurant is beautiful, so it was so shame that service and food weren't. I can't recommend this restaurant to my Asian friends because I don't want them to experience discrimination.

Top stuff. A beautiful environment to eat lovely food. A little more friendly and accessible than the Arkle and still very good.

What an amazing place. The staff, to begin with, are lovely. The atmosphere was beautiful. But the food, my word, what a treat! Totally worth coming here for any of the food. What a fantastic experience!

Very much enjoyed a sweet treat and fruit juice on my visit. The service was perfect and all the staff attentive and friendly. The surroundings; a little bit of old fashioned luxury. I was seated at 11.45am and the restaurant was really starting to fill up by 12.15pm so I would recommend booking in advance if possible. The caramel, chocolate and crumble tart shown was heavenly!

Disappointing experience. The service was non existent and staff were no where to be seen. It took over 20 mins to take our order and quite a while for drinks to be served. We were waiting so long for someone to come by the table to ask for the bill, we ended up having to walk around the restaurant to find one of the non-existent staff. Once the bill arrived, we again waited 15-20 mins for staff to come to collect payment with a card machine. We eventually gave up and paid on the way out, making sure to remove the 12.5% service charge from the total out of principle as I felt totally ignored. This is a place that charges £15-17 for a glass of Prosecco and £9.50 for a standard glass of wine in what is supposed to be the top hotel in Chester. I would get consistently better service in a Wetherspoons. The prices and service are totally mismatched and I wouldn’t care to return.

We enjoyed a delectable lunch at la brasserie. We ordered sandwiches, cakes & scones with cream. The service was friendly, polite and efficient. Would definitely recommend a visit as a treat 😊. For 3 of us including tea & bottled water & service tip was approx £60

Food remains delicious here, staff always exemplary, attentive and observant but never overbearing. Lovely atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.
