It’s been said, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” In turn, when visiting Chicago, you try the deep dish pizza! 💕 Everyone knows that Giordano’s is iconic, but before I give them a try I figure it would be good to try all the other deep dish pizzerias in the game, right? I’m a New Yorker to my core and know many a well loved pizzeria in NYC for that coveted slice of NY Style perfection. But I’m in Chicago and word on the street is that Pequod’s Pizza rivals Giordano’s any day. Okay…challenge accepted. I’ve enjoyed pizza in Rome, Tuscany, Florence, & New York City. Pequod’s pizza is so dang delicious that I will be returning for another medium size pie with garlic, basil, and pepperoni. I will thoroughly enjoy it on my own instead of sharing it. It was quintessential Chicago deep dish and the cheese pull on this pizza is like watching a perfectly edited pizza commercial but it’s happening in real life. The feel of the restaurant is like a cozy dive bar with exceptional food and very okay cocktails. I ordered a margarita and could barely taste the tequila because it was drowned in Roses Sweetened Lime juice. As a bartender for a solid 5 years in NYC, I’m boogie about my cocktails. Sorry, not sorry. Overall I enjoyed the vibe and looking forward to one more visit to eat some deep dish pizza before I return to NYC. 🙏🏾💛

Legendary pizza. Unless you get there right at open, there will probably be a wait, but it is definitely worth it. Both the deep dish and thin crust are excellent. If you’re with a group, order both and the thin crust might come out prior to the deep dish and it’s like a pizza appetizer for your pizza main course. Friendly service and a very good beer list as well.

I can't get enough of this pizza. It is seriously the best Chicago Deep Dish. Yes Gino's East is also good but if I had to choose one place it is this place and it is out of the way if you are staying downtown Chicago. But well worth the trip. It is huge place with an upstairs but expect a long wait if you haven't reserved a table.

Edit: after much time to think more clearly about this pizza, i have decided it is only worth 3-stars. I forgot how watery my salad was. And honestly, when i have to *add* cheese to my pizza, ESPECIALLY, when I pay more to get extra cheese- There. Is. A. Problem. I was SO excited to try this place - but here are my thoughts about why it got a 4 (over a 5). 1. The pizza takes forever to cook- allot 45-1 hour time to sit on this baby. (wait time to sit is even worse) 2. Got extra cheese BUT the pizza is mostly sauce and bread. 3. 3 stars alone for the ranch- it’s bomb- but all sauce (sides) start at $0.75, kind of a bummer since it’s a tiny cup. 4. Pequod salad was good but nothing special. Won’t get again 5. This pizza is so saucy be VERY careful transporting it!!! - like cheese and sauce all over the box (it gets super saturated with grease!) FYI.

Truly the BEST Chicago pizza I’ve ever had. I tried the others, they’re too cheesy and doughy. Pequod’s was spot on PERFECT! See the photos. Customer service was great and the time from order to eating was short as well. I will be returning for sure.

This is hands down the absolute best deep dish pizza in the city of Chicago. I had family in town from Houston, TX a few weeks ago that wanted to eat something authentic. I couldn’t think of a better place to take them. The food was top notch, the service was excellent, and the drinks were never empty (beer that is) lol. I have been here many times over the years and it’s always consistently great.

Me and my party and I decided to come to this pizza parlor after spending some time together. Man, were we lucky that we were even able to get a spot to sit as this place was packed, and honestly, I understood why after eating their pizza. We had gotten the large pan pizza to split between the three of us, and we had devoured that thing. The staff was extremely friendly and we even got to talk to the manager, which was quite nice. All in all, I have to make sure to make it back out here again, hopefully.

Had to stop in here and see what all the fuss was about. This place was recently rated The best deep dish in the country? Being a Chicagoan born and raised I know a thing or two about deep dish pizza. Is it the best deep dish I’ve ever had?? Absolutely not!!! On a scale of 1-10 I’ll give this pizza a 9.5.. the burnt crust on the outer edge sent me over the moon.. very delicious and it was ready for pick up sooner than they said.. I’ll be back again.. soon.. thanks so much

Quite an interesting place to say the least. I'm sure dining in would've an even wonderful experience. I got a 14 inch large pan with cheese, a 7 inch pizza with sausage, and mozzarella sticks all for $50. I thought the pizza was good. A little doughy to my liking but good. The sausage was my favorite with the flavor and compact fullness of it. Would love to come back here for an experience.

Ordered one 12” Pan Pie with Italian sausage, mushrooms, green bell pepper and onion on a Monday night around 6. The wait was said to be about 45 minutes for takeout. I got there at 6:45 and it wasn’t ready yet, as the place was packed. I overheard the host mention it was a 2 and a half hour wait for seating for walk-ins. To be fair, inside is very small, featuring a bar and a few tables, and seems it’s by reservation mostly. We got the pie at 7 and of course i didn’t check it because I was so hungry. We get home and it was the wrong pie but thankfully it was pretty much what we asked for (there was pepperoni on it instead of mushroom). Regardless it looked absolutely delicious, as it was loaded with toppings and had a nice charred crust. The crust was so dense and pillow-like with each bite. The sauce to cheese ration was perfect, and the sauce was seasoned nicely. The toppings were fresh and the meats tasted of high quality. The pizza wasn’t too greasy and did not have a lot of excess moisture. Overall, even though we got the wrong pizza, I was very impressed with this place. It’s not traditional deep dish but it’s like if deep dish and Detroit styled pizza had a love baby. It incorporates all the best aspects of deep dish and ties closely to traditional Chicago pizza. If you aren’t a fan of this style pizza, im not sure if this will be for you. I would still recommend it if you are on the fence. Even with the mistake, I still uphold the 5 star, as the pie speaks for itself.

This is some good pizza! We each got a personal deep dish. Mine was a pepperoni/sausage/mushroom and the other was a combo. This was my 1st time here, wow!! The crust on this pizza, amazing. Sausage is perfect! We also got wings and they were good but I forgot about them when the pizza came out, haha. It was busy but thankfully we got a seat. We were on the 1st floor and I think there is more seating upstairs. Employee are helpful and friendly for being so busy. A rude customer came in while we were paying upset about wearing a mask, ugh. I commend the manager for having to deal with this more times than not. I want them to be open so I can enjoy some good pizza, do what you gotta do. Menu on QR code. Parking on the street, pay the meter. Picked up some pizzas a couple days later to travel back home with. My new favorite. Thanks Pequods!

We traveled all the way from Florida to try this pizza. We were greeted by a rude cashier/hostess. She told us we could not have any one of the empty tables, despite closing time is in THREE HOURS! So we decided to order takeout. She was rude taking our order and not explaining our choices. There was no paper menu and we were instructed to scan the code to see the menu digitally. Wait time was supposed to be 45 minutes but we waited outside in our car for over an hour. My husband decided to call them. The same girl rudely told us that our pizza isn't ready and that we will get a text when it is. Within two seconds, we got the text. Did she forget about us? Uncut deep dish to go for out of state visitors and we were not even provided with silverware to cut and eat this. Finally!!! We tried Pequod's. The crust is thick and hard like a rock and the toppings are on top, cheese and sauce are under it. The crust is thick and salty with no flavor. The sauce was bland. The burnt cheese edge around the crust was absolutely disgusting. It was not a great thing to eat at all. Very disappointed in such poor customer service and in the quality of their Chicago Deep Disp.

I've visited this place a handful of times. To begin with, I ordered for pick up through their website. It's simple and easy. Also, they text you when your pizza is ready. Lastly, this is some of the best deep dish pizza I've tasted. I like the dark edge around the crust and how crispy it is. Also, the pepperoni has a robust flavor and they put a good amount on the pizza. The sauce also has a fresh taste and I didn't notice any chunks in it. Overall, I highly recommend to visit this location, it's worth the drive. Photos below: 1. Deep dish pizza: large pepperoni with 1/2 sausage 2. Inside view of pizza 3. Outside view of location

We were in Chicago for a marathon event and stopped by Pequod's Pizza for dinner. We ordered a large deep dish pizza with Italian sausage, meatballs, and onion. Our server advised us that our pizza would take about 45 minutes to prepare, but it was worth the wait! The sauce on our pizza was full of flavor and delicious, the toppings tasted fresh and high quality, and the cheese was gooey and creamy. These fantastic ingredients topped the tasty breading that made up the crust of the pizza. This was the deepest deep dish pizza I have ever eaten! After two slices, I felt full and satisfied. The service is a bit slow, but the staff is friendly and they have a lot of customers to attend to. But all things considered, if you have a little patience it will be rewarded with a truly superior Chicago-style deep dish pizza.

A great place to dine. They serve some of the best deep dish pizzas in Chicago, the reason why this joint is very popular. The place is usually crowded. The pizza tasted great with lots of cheeze. This makes the pizza very heavy, we couldn't finish more than 2 slices each. They have both dine in as well as take away options. They have plenty of craft beer options, close to 300 is what they claim. The prices were reasonable. The staff is very friendly. However, the service could be a bit slow during the weekends, understandably due the the rush. All in all, a great experience. Would surely recommend the place.

Authentic deep dish pizza with caramelized crust. Great choice of toppings. Garlic and basil was a tasty combination. Pequod salad and a 10 inch were plenty for two. Affordable wine selections and super friendly staff. Will definitely return soon.

We were in town for a friends birthday and she wanted some Chicago Deep dish. We searched all over the internet and got the usual main 4 pizza places. We hit up a friend who lives in town and they recommended Pequod’s. It was a little drive north of downtown but totally worth it! We’re not from Chicago and aren’t versed when it comes to deep dish but we all enjoyed our experience and even had a person in our party who didn’t care for deep dish but even they said it was great and changed their view on deep dish. We sat upstairs and had a reservation. Not sure how busy it can get but to be safe grab a reservation. We started with fried zucchini and the garlic cheesy bread. The zucchini reminded me of fried pickles without the tart zing of a pickle. The breading was nice and crunchy with a tender center. They were super good! The cheesy garlic bread was good as well. It came with a marinara sauce that I assumed is used for the pizza and it was some of the best marinara I’ve had. Slightly chunky with a sweet after taste, and a flavorful tomato punch! The bread was super soft with gooey mozzarella on top. We ordered 2 medium pizzas for 5 people and we had a lot of leftovers. The sauce is on the bottom with the toppings on top. Like I mentioned we’re not experts on deep dish but my goodness was it good! A crispy crust with a nice crunch, “burnt” cheese on the back of the crust that touched the pan that was an extra flavor shot! One of our pizzas was just cheese and pepperoni and the other was sausage, pepperoni, green onion, fresh garlic, mushroom and onions. Be careful when adding toppings because each additional topping is an extra charge. Veggies looked to be $2.95 per additional and meat was $3.95 per additional. Our “deluxe” pizza was $50! Well worth it but FYI. The medium pizzas have 6 slices and the large have 8 slices. Like I said we had 5 people and got 2 medium, I believe we had 5 slices left. Come hungry and you might be able to eat 2 slices, they’re super filling! Go grab a piece!

We wanted to experience Chicago but only had 2 hours and time for one stop… Pequod’s Pizza delivered the Windy City on a plate and it was incredible! This is deep dish authentic Chicago pizza in an authentic Chicago pizzeria. Nothing fancy about this place, just a bar like atmosphere with dated tables, amenities and sports paraphernalia. Customer service was direct but pleasant as well. Call ahead if you want to eat in, or you can take it to go. They even ship! I’m so glad I ordered enough to take leftovers home.

This is my first time to Chicago (I'm from California)! Never had real deep dish pizza.........OMG! Absolutely the best Pizza I've ever had, every where (even Italy) period! This pizza kills all pizzas! It's made in a skillet and brought to the table piping hot 🔥! And the wonderful thing is that it stays hot throughout your meal! The delicious crusty crust is remarkable! The pepperoni is crispy! Lots of cheese! just can't say enough! Try it, you won't be disappointed! These are filling! So don't over order 😁! Local beer goose Island 312 was bomb! Enjoy!

Always great pizza ! I'm not a fan of deep dish I grew up in NY , so I like my thin crust. But this is one of the best deep dish I've had to date! We got there at 11:30 on a Friday and got a seat , but if you get there at 12 or later you may get turned down Really like this out of the way place !!

The pizza is so good. I knew it would be good looking at it but man in person it was just ridiculous. I recommend getting a reservation they were booked full at 8pm on a Wednesday. They said the pizza would take and hour and it maybe took 35 minutes and the awesome waiter was super attentive given how busy they were. It’s an astoundingly good value, a two inch thick deep dish 12” pizza with one topping and two drinks for less than thirty bucks at one of the places that’s consistently voted top 5 pizza in Chicago? Yeah I’ll take that any day. I live in the suburbs and I’d drive twice as far to get this. Ridiculous.

Pequod's distinctive pan pizza at the heart of Chicago is a game-changer. Unlike the traditional deep dish, its caramelized cheese crust is the star of this pan pie—an irresistible edge that elevates the entire pizza experience. With each bite, you're greeted by a perfect blend of textures and flavors, a testament to Pequod's mastery in pizza craft. It's not just a meal; it's a ritual, a must on every Chicago visit. The restaurant's departure from the deep-dish norm adds a refreshing twist to the city's pizza scene, making Pequod's a standout. If you're seeking pizza perfection beyond the conventional, this is your haven.

Pequod's Pizza is a gem with its delectable offerings. The famous burnt cheese caramelized crust is a game-changer, complementing the delicious sauce perfectly. The service is wonderful, but given its popularity, reservations are advisable for a smooth experience in this bustling spot. A must-try for pizza enthusiasts!

Did not expect that place to be that big. Looks like a renovated apartment but where we sat, the cold air passed through. Started with wings (half buffalo/half bbq). Deep fried and saucy. Decent but they were just wings. Got a half sausage/half cheese deep dish. Great cheese pull, limited amount of sauce. Was slightly under cooked with that doughy taste. I personally don’t like their whole cheese crust but my friends did. Two slices were very filling. Overall, fast service and solid food. Not my favorite deep dish in the city but definitely middle of the pack.

This is an off the beaten path spot to get to but the opportunity to get traditional Chicago deep dish from one of the foremost spots is certainly worth it. We split a standard 10” pan pizza, which was more than enough for two people. This pie has a very thick crust, with a healthy layer of cheese and sauce layered on top. It is quite tasty, although I do wish we had ordered some toppings to add some diversity to the meal. One other thing to note, the wait to get a pizza can run 45 minutes or longer so if you are in a rush be sure to order ahead so it is ready to eat.

This is the place to go to for some deep dish pizza! We had reservations and were able to get seated immediately on arrival. We ordered a small pizza, and that was perfect for two people. Pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, and basil were the toppings on our pizza. Our server did tell us that it would take about 45 minutes for the pizza to come out. As we were waiting, our hunger kicked in so that when the pizza came out, we were ready. The pizza itself is just amazing. From the outer crispy edges to the wonderful combination of flavors from the toppings and the cheese. This satisfied my deep dish craving for the year.

Our favorite deep dish in Chicago. TBH the crust is a bit more chewy than the crispy pie crust at the other places. What we like most is the cheese that goes all the way to the edge of the pan and crisps up. Do yourself a favor, plan ahead and make a reservation or face an hour plus wait. Staff is wonderful. Take care of them.

Definitely over the top real deep dish pizza with chunks of sausage that were huge! Great taste...kills the competition! Just wish we could have dined in. Drove 2 hours from hotel just to eat here and found a 3 hour wait on a Monday night! Definitely make reservations way in advance...maybe even days in advance. Had to place order to go just to experience it...but so worth it!

Our visit to Chicago could not be complete without trying some deep dish pizza. We asked the locals and was told this was the place for deep dish. We got a sausage and pepperoni topping and it was spectacular. Make sure you have some time to wait to be seated. We decided to take out because the wait to be seated was too long.

Quick service. Great food. This is the Chicago taste. I asked our waitress what toppings would go on a Chicago pizza and I admit I was skeptical of her suggestions. But I went with it and we were surprised by the bold flavors that worked so well together. Toppings: garlic, giardiniera, green pepper, onion, sausage. Highly recommend. Depending on the group, could split one personal pizza and an appetizer. The pizza is as deep as a soup bowl! Love the mascot.

I liked the pan pizza a lot. More than enough in portions. The only problem was that my wife who is gluten free had a tough time finding anything to eat. They were out of gluten free crust is what the waiter said. The quality and taste were spot on. Wings could have been better and need to have an option were they aren't breaded.

Must try. Top 5 pizza in USA. BEST deep dish. Kind of a hole in the wall, low key, paper plates and plastic utensils but they make a damn fine pizza. Bring proof of vaccination and boosters to dine in.

Lives up to the hype! While I am not a deep dish lover myself, I had to finally try the pizza everyone is raving about. This is definitely the best deep dish I’ve had in Chicago. With the right ratio of sauce and cheese, you still get a filling and decadent experience without it being sloppy or wet. The caramelized crust was buttery with just the right amount of crisp. We split the appetizer sampler (onion rings, cheese sticks, fried zucchini, and jalapeño poppers) to tide us over before the pizza came (45 min wait told to us upfront by our kind waiter) and it was delicious! We will be returning to try the thin crust pizza next!

If you forgot your mask they will sell you a disposable one for $1. They donate that money to a local charity. 4 stars for the cheesy bread. The wings were also very tender. The pizza was okay. I do have to say I was expecting deep fish as opposed to pan pizza. The toppings were great as was the sauce and cheese. The pizza itself tasted pretty burnt on a lot of areas. I did get a frozen one to bring home. If my opinion changes I will update my review. There is seating upstairs as well as downstairs. The chairs upstairs are not comfortable at all. I will say that the restaurant industry is under staffed so we need to be patient. The staff was friendly.

1/16/22 carryout order was disgusting! Pizza was not fully cooked - soggy crust - falling apart- not caramelized- prego or ragu unseasoned tomato sauce - raw pepperoni mozzarella and sausage! Longtime customer and native Chicagoan - totally disgusted and disappointed. Pics are attached.

Very well done, crunchy, crispy and greasy. I enjoyed a pepperoni and fresh garlic personal pie. The sauce was delicious, and the pepperoni was full of flavor. I am from Now York, so eating a round, uncut pizza was challenging at first haha. But the flavor and caramelized crust made a lasting impression. Definitely recommend.

The pizza and mozzarella sticks were exceptionally tasty, making this establishment a standout among the many pizza places I've visited in the city. However, the service experience left much to be desired. On a day when the restaurant was fairly busy, with about three-quarters of the seats filled, there seemed to be only two servers attending to guests. It took an unusually long time—approximately 25 minutes—for our drink orders to be taken, and by that point, we were ready to order our entire meal. Our appetizers were initially overlooked, which the staff apologized for, and oddly, our pizzas arrived before the starters. After placing our order, our server became virtually invisible, necessitating communication through the food runner for any needs. Our server reemerged only when we were seeking to pay the bill, having been absent for check-ins or refill offers throughout our meal. Despite the service challenges, the quality of the pizza compels me to consider returning. Should the service improve on a future visit, I am open to revising my review.

This pizza is definitely the best around Chicago. If you are looking for authentic deep dish pizza you mistakenly try this place, feels more homemade and the flavors are exquisite. I ordered the pepperoni and all I can say is I need to go back and have more!

This is the true Chicago deep dish. I'm sure I'll get some hate from that but my opinion stands. This is a must have if you are new to Chicago. Pequod's has everything from amazing food to a great atmosphere. If you get a pizza from here you have to get the burnt crust.

The pizza, deep dish, was fantastic. I highly recommend getting sausage as a topping- it was terrific. The other toppings were great as well (mushrooms, pepperoni, olive and jalapeños, for nice spicy kick)! The crust, was awesome and had a crispy cheesy edge that was just phenomenal. The pie itself was loaded with wonderful string mozzarella, as well as toppings! The pizza gets 5 stars hands down. We also got a couple appetizers, the wings and mozzarella sticks. The wings were pretty standard breaded wings. The Buffalo sauce was super tasty though. The mozzarella sticks were good but nothing super special. The beer selection, while small, had some very good options that went magnificently with the food. It was a little noisy, but the service was great. Would definitely go again!

Loved this little place for its fantastic deep dish pizza. The staff is extremely friendly and are able to accommodate you even during peak hours. Our pizza did take about 40ish minutes to come out (during the peak hours) which I suspect is pretty standard, but it was very delicious! Definitely give this place a try if you want to attempt a very flavorful deep dish!
