This place is a must try. A gem hidden right in front of your eyes. The food was excellent and the wine pairing was on point. The interior atmosphere was a bit rugged, but charming in the evening. You're going to love the food.

Rootstock always hits! We came on a Saturday night and the 2 of us were seated at the bar within 30 mins. We had wine while we were waiting and split all these amazing dishes when we got seated. The bartender and host were extremely hospitable and welcoming. We had great conversation and finished our meal with a digestif recommended by the bartender. Thank goodness we’re locals and will be going back again soon.

Haven't been here since they opened ~13 years ago and they are still on point. Attentive service, great variety of menu dishes. Food was delicious. Can't wait to go back.

I have a weakness for charcuterie and I am not ashamed about it in the least. It was my first time visiting Rootstock. We sat outside on the patio and had two glasses of wine and shared the charcuterie board. For the charcuterie, there is an option to pick 6 items from the cheese and meat selections. We went with 3 meats and 3 cheeses. ‘Nduja, Chicken Liver Mousse, and Black Garlic Salame were our meats. Wee Wolly, Tea Rose, and Everton were our cheeses. I started the night with a glass of their PetNat “la roué qui tourne” which was excellent.

Great service. Small but boisterous atmosphere. We enjoyed $500 worth of food and left nothing behind. Everything was exceptional. Take note though that the shrimps are MASSIVE.

Very cozy. Very delicious food. Great services. I wish more up to date beer menu on the website. It's too dark to read the menu. Pretty good shrimp cocktail sauce. Unique skate cheeks dish, so good. Picanha, here is something else, just the perfect balance of flavors. Great portion. Great for sharing.

Love this place! Tried for the first time randomly only because it was open late and I had to come back again because their pasta was soooo good, and wine choices were excellent and unique! Their menu changes constantly so when I came back they didnt have the pasta I was craving but they had a similar pasta that tasted pretty identifical but was interesting with green peas! Finally got to try the burger and it was soooo good. Love the ambient too!! Def a hidden gem in chicago!

I really like the ambiance. Mind you I arrived as they were opening, so not busy and the service was one on one. The burger is really good, just not the best I've tried for my personal taste. It comes with salad, pickles and jalapeños on the side. I usually don't like pickles, but these ones were really good. I totally recommend coming if you want to eat a great classic burger with a spin. But I would not order the fries again, they were crispy though.

Excellent little spot. Highly recommend. The owners are there most days and the service and food are world class. Small menu. Great wine list.

This place is a hidden gem. The best burger in Chicago hands down! We have a few places that we frequent that are on our rotation list and they have definitely made it. I would drive two hours for that burger!

Best around this area, honestly. There’s a reason they can’t take reservations, and you wait in the doorway if you get there after 6:15 on a Friday.

Smitten the first time I came here a few years back. Now my children are too. Not cheap but everything is well curated, from the charcuterie/cheese trays, burger, salads. This is firstly a wine bar. I had one of the best cab franc here and many others from a serious wine list. Small, simple, charming. Every neighborhood should have one of these.

Great ambiance and love going there for drinks! They have a wonderful wine selection that is reasonably priced for Chicago. Small patio area in the front that’s nice in warmer weather. Note: they don’t take reservations.
