Went 2x, two different locations. I had the Italian beef, extra wet with mozzarella cheese and sweet peppers and onion rings(pictured) the first time. Very good. I ate everything. My second time I had the Portillos Dog and a chocolate cake shake. Everything was amazing

My order JUMBO HOT DOG With everything ordered on it( that came correctly the 2nd time) came to me on the warm to cool side and hard to bite off, then I also got the ITALIAN BEEF Our own famous recipe with everything on it(that came just dipped with nothing else on it, when I ordered it with everything), FRENCH FRIES were probably the best thing there that I ordered along with the MINUTE MAID LEMONADE. Over all I waited for my food for a good 15-20min for the original order to find out the young woman calling out the counter orders asked for my receipt and she said the kitchen staff just left it sitting there and didn't even complete the order. So she had them remake everything I ordered again, and they messed up with the all beef dipped sandwich with everything and they just gave me a dipped beef sandwich with nothing on it. Overall probably waited close to 30min to receive my food, for what I received the food wasn't that great either. The place itself is cool I believe it's more of the hype or atmosphere then anything. But for my 1st time there, definitely NOT IMPRESSED. Probably the last time I will go there, I probably would have been better off at Buffalo Wild Wings across the way. I mean I'm nobody special just a paying customer, that's all. But when you can't get my order right the 1st time I ever visited and to top it off My hot dog was kind of cold and hard to take a bite from tearing off, something is definitely wrong.

Great place for a quick bite. Ordered the Italian sub, Portillo's hotdog, onion rings, and the chocolate cake. The sub is amazing with the side of gravy/dip. You can also add on some hot or sweet peppers, if that's to your liking. The hotdog is one of the best I've tried in the US. It comes with a large pickle, tomato slices, hot peppers, and some relish. The onion rings were also really crispy. Lastly, the chocolate cake, despite coming off a shelf and in a plastic container, was real good and perfectly moist. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

My chili dog was pretty good. The hot dog itself was juicy and I really liked the beans in the chili. The fries were hot and crispy. Nice and clean atmosphere.

If you visit Chicago-come here for memorable food and a great glimpse of the city. The Italian beef sandwhich is so so good and the cake shake is everything you are dreaming of. Whenever we visit Chicago we make an intentional trip to visit this Portillo. This one has a drive through as well! Wonderful food and such a cool vibe.

Portillo's in Chicago offers outstanding Chicago style hot dogs and shakes. The food and service are top-notch, even after 10 pm. The hot dogs are bursting with flavor, with all the classic toppings on a steamed poppy seed bun. The shakes are creamy and indulgent. The service is friendly and efficient, ensuring a pleasant experience. For an authentic taste of Chicago, Portillo's is a must-visit.

The beef sandwich from here wasn’t my favorite but it was pretty good. The Chicago style hot dogs are always very good. We also tried the 6pc chicken tenders and they were huge but they forgot to give me the Giardinara sauce. The soda tasted like water this time but the vanilla milk shake did not disappoint. I like coming to this Portillo’s cause it’s never too crowded and service it’s usually fast. There’s always parking and the people that work there are always super friendly!!!

Great food and great atmosphere. I got the beef with no bread because I am on a Keto diet- even without the bread this beef is worth the visit. 4 out of 5 because I got no peppers, it made me a little upset to be honest but life goes on. Would come back.

We love Portillo's. For me personally it is my favorite Chicago food. It is a comfort food. The best Italian beef sandwich (ask extra juice or dipped), delicious burgers, and you definitely want to try a chocolate cake milk shake. Yes, it's their famous chocolate cake in milk shake. Plus it is very affordable. An atmosphere here is amazing. Feel like you are back in time with all historical artifacts on the wall.

Portillo's is a chicago staple for a reason. They have really good food and atmosphere. I of course had to get the Chicago dog which was good, but I did notice that it was lacking sport peppers. That however did not dampen the experience and won't prevent me from stopping by when I have a hankering for a hot dog dragged through the garden

Great taste of Chicago, I got the burger because I'm going to give the street vendors some business for the Polish Sausage. Staff couldn't tell me about the beers 🍺 so I paired the delicious double bacon cheese burger with an Illinois IPA the Anti-Hero (6.7 ABV) from Revolution Brewing. Food is served in a fast food restaurant style so order, grab and go enjoy.

I went to this location on 7/1/2023 and I haven't had a good Italian beef in a while. It a good setting to come to get some good fresh hot food. I got the regular Italian beef with a side of fries and cheese sauce including a strawberry shake. I will definitely be back to order some food soon.

We ordered well done ribs since they take 25 minutes because it was busy, we decided to get Maxwell street polish hotdog which turned out to be a great appetizer. Then we decided to get Portillo’s Beef Hotdog, which became our 2appetizer. Once we finished, we decided to get the Chicken noodle soup which came steaming hot fit to sink the two hotdogs. Again we decided to get the dipped Italian beef and sausage sandwich which was juicy and tasty! Once the Ribs Came, it seems we ate a lot of other delicacies and they seemed to have forgotten the ribs on the grill, so they served them burnt. However, we talked to the staff and she was able to help us because what followed in few seconds was the TRUE AWARD WINNING RIBS! Going back to LA and I suggest having this restaurant there. To those visiting Chicago, we recommend this place for its kind staff, delicious meals and budget friendly unlike many places we’ve visited In Chicago over this week!

Busy and popular if you're into this kind of food. A bit weird how your order comes out piecemeal but I guess that's their system. They messed up our hotdog order initially but rectified it straight away when I went back to the counter. Plenty of space inside at 8PM to dine in. Food was fresh and tasty. Must try at least once.

Best fast food place I’ve been too. I had the spicy chicken sandwich and a large fries. The sandwich was crispy and the sauce had lots of flavor and enough kick but not to the point where it’s unbearable. The fries were a bit soggy but we’re still really good. They have lots of staff so the line moves quickly. Would definitely come back again.

Great atmosphere and food! We had lunch at Portillo’s on Taylor after visiting the Freedom Boat Club in Chicago. The food was true, authentic Chicago cuisine in a family friendly environment. The decorations make this a stop for the entire family! Check them out!

Typical Fast Food way of serving, my hot dog bun was crushed beyond recognisable and the food is extremely salty

I give more star to the atmosphere. The food can be good if they don’t burn it.lol. The place has lots of parking. Near to a good shopping mall. It’s a big portillo’s for big groups. The service is fast. Polite staff. Fairly clean bathroom. Clean tables. Tables are covered with thick plastic cover and they clean it almost after every seat. I can surly say that if there is no other option, portillo’s is known restaurant. Pricing is absolutely great. We got two burgers and drinks for $26. This is a big thumbs up 👍🏻. Give it a try, You may like it!

A great spot on the corner of Canal and Taylor Street in Chicago. This chain location features a drive-through and lots of FREE parking…both rarities in the world of Chicago restaurants! Super fun atmosphere with 1940s style music playing and decor. For whatever reason, the lighting makes it difficult to take photos in this place. The food is yummy. The service is quick. Definitely worth checking out this spot!

I live in a small city (26,000 people) in Ohio about ⅓ of the way between Cleveland and Columbus. I came to Chicago for business and pleasure, and my cousin took us to this restaurant for a "uniquely Chicago restaurant" experience. I was walking in completely prepared for the "big city coldness" that I have experienced so many times before, which I was ok with. Fortunately for me, that is as far from what I got as possible! The warmth and friendliness from every single staff member that I had an encounter with made me feel as though I was back home. The food was out of this world, and it was so good that I didn't even have a chance to take a picture of any of it! I had the #1 meal, the Big Italian Beef, and i was half tempted to lick the paper it came in. It was that tasty! Kudos to the manager of this place for having such amazing staff! If I ever make it back to Chicago, this will absolutely be one of the places I go to eat!

Traveled 2 hours from Michigan was one place we had to check out. The Good The chocolate cake shake is the best shake I ever had! The burger was excellent taste like a better version of burger king with the Char-Broil classic taste. My favorite! The Bad , the fries and chicken noodle was terrible 1/5 stars that chicken noodle tasted worse then caned soup didn't think that was possible I felt a little disrespected on how bad it was to be honest selling it for 5 dollars for a small bowl the fries was very underwhelming soggy, Luke warm CHEAP crinkle fries huge disappointment. Chicken tenders was underwhelming but decent I realized there may be a little over hype on this place but the chocolate shake and burger alone make it worth it they need a fry upgrade and take that chicken noodle off the menu but it is worth it if you HAPPEN to be near by.

In my opinion the Italian beef really isn't that good, it doesn't have much going on in the flavor apartment. The only way I see it being decent would be if dipped but that would make the bread soggy and gross which I did try the 1st time. Their fries are decent. Cake shake is a godsend for any sweet tooth but in my case it is way too sweet. I say the pricing is fair for what it is.

Let me start by saying, I love Portillo’s and have always been satisfied customer, even before I flipped vegan. When I heard that they would be adding the vegan Garden Dog to the menu I headed straight there to give it a try. For some reason this location left a bad taste in my mouth, ugh. I’ll start with the staff because that’s where the problem started. I asked the cashier TWICE if I could get a tray because I would be dining in. She said ok twice as so I’m sure she heard me. Not going to complain about the long wait because it’s expected, reason being, the food is great. After my number was called I noticed my food was in a to-go bag, so I politely asked if I could get a tray because I would be dining in. The first tray she give me was soaked and idk if she seen it when she give it to me so I asked if I could have a dry tray. She stomps away huffing and puffing because I wanted a dry tray. Well when she returned she slams the tray down on the counter and you would not believe it was STILL wet!! I asked if she could please dry it off because I would like to place my food on it, after she stood the for about 20 seconds, she walks away to get a towel mumbling under her breath and was just giving me all types of bad vibes!! The Chicago style vegan dog way a little over cooked but other then that it was fine. Will definitely think twice before I return to this location!

They were skimpy with the beef. Hot Dogs were good. Fries were fresh the onion rings tasted like they were cooked then maybe put in again to warm them. The chocolate cake was delicious very moist perfect amount of frosting to cake. Dining area was clean however the bathrooms were not. There is an outdoor patio which is nice. The decor is awesome. Alot of history on the walls. They offer catering and shipping options.

Most delicious hot dog I ever had, also the most expensive lol. But it's worth it. The place is huge with lots of memorabilia, but too loud and noisy to enjoy a meal. It's a place to grab a quick bite and get out.

I've heard alot about the Chicago style hotdogs and infamous portillos but I was disappointed. The Chicago dog was good and the pickle set it off but Portillo didn't do it any justice. The chill sog was even worst. I wouldn't recommend this place to any other out of towners

Food was not prepared properly and had missing items. I order a beef and cheddar on croissiant with fries. The ordered sweet pepper and there were none on my sandwich. I order cheese fries and didn't get the cheese. The sandswich barely had any beef or cheese it was mostly bread. And the food was cold.

Pleasantly surprised! Especially for the incredibly low prices, this food was stellar! Fast and accurate service, kind staff, delicious grub. Will be back whenever we are in Chicago!

After waiting 1 hour for my ribs because they forgot to make them, they were not the greatest. Do not care for burnt ribs. The young lady at the counter was very helpful to make sure I finally got my ribs. They gave me a complimentary piece of cake for the inconvenience.

One of the best locations in the Chicagoland! I’ve been coming here as long as I can remember. PSA: if your driving and want to go inside. Don’t park at any of the random lots nearby. There are spotters and your car will be gone in minutes.

I love Portillo's. Just not this location. 0/3 here. This time; cold fries, order wrong and took 45 minutes for a simple phone in order. It's a shame management can't improve here. Go to Ontario location where service and food is always perfect.

  • 5/5 Joshua T. H. 2 years ago on Google
Portillo's is one of my favorite go to place. They have great hot dogs, sandwiches, and desserts. I love the hot dogs and their chocolate shake. I usually go with a group of people and share a bunch of different items because they are all so good! The food is reasonably priced and the restaurant looks like a retro diner inside.
