I was told they were going to open it up for tours which will be awesome. The boat ride out to it is very peaceful and you will enjoy it.

The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse is near Navy Pier at the mouth of the Chicago River and has been in use since the Colombian Exposition of 1893. This is NOT the non-profit Chicago Lighthouse for the visually Impaired. It is not open to the public.

The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse is an iconic landmark that serves as a symbol of Chicago's rich history and its significance as a major port city. Located at the mouth of the Chicago River, the lighthouse has been guiding ships into the harbor since 1893 and has played an essential role in ensuring the safety of sailors and their vessels. I highly recommend a visit to the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse. The lighthouse is accessible only by boat, but the stunning views of Lake Michigan and the city skyline make the trip well worth it. Visitors can take a boat tour or a private charter to get up close to the lighthouse, and some tours even include a stop at the lighthouse for a tour inside. The lighthouse itself is a beautiful structure, with its white brick tower and red lantern room standing tall against the backdrop of the lake and the city. The tower is 48 feet tall and is topped with a fourth-order Fresnel lens, which casts a bright, focused beam of light that can be seen up to 15 miles away. The lens and other historical artifacts are on display inside the lighthouse, providing visitors with a fascinating glimpse into the lighthouse's rich history and the important role it has played in Chicago's maritime industry. Visitors to the lighthouse can also learn about the dedicated keepers who served there over the years, many of whom lived on site with their families. Their stories provide a unique perspective on life at the lighthouse and the challenges they faced while performing their duties. Overall, the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse is a must-see attraction for anyone interested in Chicago's maritime history or simply looking for a unique and memorable experience. The stunning views, rich history, and fascinating stories make it a true gem of the city.

This lighthouse is by no means abandoned! It is listed as an active navigational aid. They don't allow access for that reason. It is completely automated unfortunately. What a job that would be!

Its a great place its a shame they don't let you in though but what they should so is what the North Breakwater Lighthouse in Ludington does and lets people in but still in a operational lighthouse.

Came out this year for the 113th annual Mackinaw sailboat race. Was definitely a great place to start off at such a piece of Chicago history. The view from the end of Navy Pier was great!
