Chicago’s hidden gem. Popular beach for locals, but it’s a must visit for one-of-a-kind nature experience: a dog beach, a human beach, a couple piers that jet out into the lake, a natural dune, bird sanctuary, butterfly sanctuary, bike trails, hiking trails, long lakefront views, boating dock, fields of grass to just relax and people watch, bird watch, nature watch and more. The stewards, Chicago Parks, the Nature Conservancy and everyone that has worked hard to conserve this beach should be congratulated on a great job. It’s doing so well, that the locally famous couple of endangered Piping Plover’s, Monty and Rose call this home.

The beach here offers much more parking and way fewer people than the beaches closers towards downtown. Always a police presence, which is very nice to know and ensures the surrounding areas are safe. Walkways are well maintained and trash free. Numerous ladder access points to enter and exit the lake!

Awesome and huge! The Dock makes it even more attractive. If you like sand beaches, great! If you prefer to lay down on the grass in the shadow, you will also find such space in the park next to it. Don’t forget to walk into Bird Sanctuary, so many unseen birds made their habitat there. Overall A+++++ and absolutely amazing place to go to!

Lots of syringes and beer cans but only here and there. Views are great! Pull up FlightRadar24 on your phone here in the afternoon and watch the planes come in

Incredible place to watch the sunrise.

Great beach with a large dog-friendly area that is fully enclosed, a fun eating/music venue called "The Dock", good picnic and soccer areas, parking, and a fairly well kept bathroom facility. Plus there are the rocks to sit on, and good views of the city. Montrose is a busy beach, but because it's so large, you don't really notice. It's one of my favorite beaches in the city!

Montrose Beach is windy

Parking was tough but drive more north in the parking lot from where google maps has you go and it's less crowded with the same nice beach. Realized this on our way out. The sand is fine grain making it soft to walk on and looks imported. Bring your own stuff for activities.
