This club has gone down hill tremendously over the last year. Months ago, I pointed out mold in the showers. I feel like the club is so bad now, it's a health hazard. And operations manager doesn't seem to care. I wasn't trying to be a jerk - I tried to point out the black mold in the showers (black mold is dangerous!!), a brown hot tub - literally brown, and the mold, mildew, algae in the pool. I'm the showers, its clear where the cleaning crew can't reach the higher tiles. Below ~6.5ft it's reasonably clean. Above ~6.5ft... the tiles/grout on the walls, columns, and ceiling are black with mold. Regarding the pool, a staffer said "it can't be that dirty, we just had it cleaned 3.5 weeks ago." 3.5 WEEKS AGO!?!? My friend works at LSAC, and he said theirs is cleaned DAILY. The staff was certain that the brown hot tub was open, they all thought it was closed due to its unhygienic nature. Yet it was open and people were in it (GROSS!!). When I tried to speak with the ops manager, she refused to engage with me... she seemed offended that I pointed these out in front of other members. I sent the pics to the HQ in Cali, and they're engaging the regional manager. But for now, this club is unusable to me. Attached are pics from today, trust me… it’s much worse/grosser in person.

Staff and manager are legit. Very busy but small gym. Oddly there is not much waiting. Occasionally you get the narcissist who has a conversation while leaving their items at a station not using it for 20 minutes plus. But that's rare. Protein shakes bar!? No prices listed (sus). Awesome one of few remaining. Sad as people don't go back for predatory pricing. Probably won't last long. Gym? B+ Mostly new equipment. Crowded but oddly not much waiting on equipment. The pool is small, murky and busy. You will have to share a lane likely. Hot tub is hot with really strong jets. The sauna? Forget it. Packed always packed. Free parking. Club engineer? Weight rack is way too close to the benches. In order to get weights you have to stick your butt in other people's faces literally inches away. Besides the fact it's difficult to walk and even dangerous since you're carrying large weights near their faces.

"How many sets of texts do you have left bro?" Clean place and good equipment but to much real estate is taken up by treadmills and machines. There are not enough squat racks and benches to account for the folks turning their workout into an Instagram story. It's a really busy place especially after 5pm.

I’m a regular at this gym, but only because it’s the closest to me with a great selection of equipment. If it’s over 72° outside, you can bet you’ll be working out in a sauna that day. The humidity in this gym is always intense. I walked in today for example and before I could even begin my workout, I was covered in a thin layer of sweat. No matter the amount of times the staff are asked to turn the temperature down, there’s never a change from day to day. Here’s to hoping someone higher up in their corporate system sees this review AND ACTS on this ongoing issue. I’d be happy to change this review after something is done and noticed on a regular basis.

I enjoy the benefits that come with membership to LA Fitness. However this location and generally all LA Fitness locations seem to be very poorly equipped for barbell and cable machine attachments, cushioning for squats/ hup thrusts, and even safety catches for the barbells. Surely you can afford to buy a full set of attachments per machine?? The staff at this location also felt more decorative than anything. Update: still insufficient clippers for the Barbell stations. During peek hour half those stations weren't usable

I have been a member for 3 months now. One thing that needs improvement is oftentimes, I go in and have to search around the entire gym for paper towels to clean the equipment with. It's a little frustrating when you see plenty of staff. With that being said, the gym is usually clean. While I do believe it is the job of the last person to use the weights to re-rack, again, there is a staff there that could be going around making sure things are cleaned up and put up. The lockers are always clean. The staff was friendly. The equipment needs a good wiped own. I went in Saturday and the machines were full of dust and grime. I guess I didn't notice it before.

Always packed, impossible to get a decent workout if you're looking to go after work. They intentionally make it extremely difficult to cancel your membership. "You have to come in between 9-5 when the manager is working" or physically print out a form and mail it to California.

The wifi pretty much never works at all even though they promise it everywhere. And if you don’t want to use it, the signal for phones is spotty as well. The cleanliness of the place is not the best. Upon entry you’re greeting with a pretty potent smell. I honestly thought every gym smelled bad until I went elsewhere. Also I’ve seen many paper towels in machine cup holders that stay there for days at a time (telling me how often they’re cleaned beyond members wiping it down). Furthermore almost all of the equipment is due for some heavy maintenance. Weights are rusty as all and the cardio machines are rickety and also rusting. I would also warn that it gets extremely crowded during hours after work. I went today and saw every treadmill (about 30) filled. It’s also pretty typical to have to struggle to find a space to work out in the weight room or have to wait for a machine. Finally the trial membership is weird. I brought a friend for a week trial that comes with my membership and was informed 1) it’s not a week since it’s the “busy time” of winter 2) it’s not free, they have you put money down and get a refund you if you don’t pursue a membership. I’m definitely going to investigate the other LA fitness locations in hopes I’ll fair better.

Its all about the cell phone, I don't think people actually come here to exercise, I think they come to sit on the equipment and stare at their cellphones. It's impossible to come to this gym for a quick workout because every single machine is filled with people just looking at their cellphone, not using the equipment, not exercising but instead looking at their cellphone. If your life is so important that you cant take 2 minutes away from your phone why are you even at the gym? Of course management does nothing about this issue.

Abe was helpful in setting me up with my trainer, Jimmy. He's knowledgeable and flexible with this schedule to accommodate my weekly availability. I enjoy my sessions and feel good after a good workout. I'm seeing great results and just renewed for my second six months!

Been going here for 6-7 years. Fairly new machines that aren't broken for too long. There is a good amount of cardio equipment and free weight sections. It all works fine for me and my needs of a gym. For overall feedback on how this gym can improve their experience for guests: The men's locker room needs an exhaust fan, or at least a working exhaust fan. Humidy builds up and can be a cesspool for bacteria/mold if it isn't frequently cleaned and people walk barefoot in there as well. I am not a fan of the new wipes but it seems like that was a corporate move so it might not entirely be in their control. I along with others would have better peace of mind if we saw staff more frequently wiping down equipment since some guests do not cleanup after themselves and practice good gym etiquette, same with re-racking weights if careless guests don't put their free weights back. It would be great if they opened earlier on the weekends so the early risers could get their workouts in. By having it open at 8 AM, it just overly saturates the amount of people working out which will leads to a more crowded and less satisfied workout experience with more (negative) reviews complaining about capacity. Thanks,

It has always been hot in this gym since we started in December, things were especially bad today. As soon as I walked in it was so hot and so smelly because there was no air circulation. I’ve been to other LA Fitness gyms and this is the only one dedicated to no air. I’ve noticed it several times when working out on the treadmills. During yoga class a couple sundays ago, I felt heat (actual heat) from the vents above. The instructor even commented on the level of hotness in the room. It was almost too much. Same with the cycling room, no air, no circulation. We have complained to staff at the front about it - to no avail. Today I held my breath from the front entrance to the locker room, it hurt so bad to breathe in my nose because of body odor and I was already hot without working out. It really is a shame. I appreciate what the custodial staff does for the locker rooms, it seems she is always in there. But I honestly do not recommend this location except for the occasional lovely yoga class and a good sauna. You are better off going to one a few miles away because they have cool air/circulation and it smells fresh. And there’s always announcements that announce the gym is closing and it rarely matches what is online and correct, so don’t be fooled by those, they just haven’t bothered to make them accurate.

The club is a nice option for a slightly lower budget than CAC. Personal trainers and group classes have good instructors and the equipment available gets the job done! As a member for a few years, who prefers swimming for my workout, my only wish is that the club would put out an email or notification in the app when the pool is under maintenance.

Absolutely absurd process to cancel on top of the place being overall pretty dirty. You cannot find the disinfectant spray anywhere so most the equipment is pretty dirty. The equipment is also broken on a regular basis. Honestly I can look past that somehow. The cancellation though, holy hell. You cannot cancel on the weekends because the manager is not there. You need to come in during the week 9-6pm with a manager on duty to cancel. Your other option is to fill out a form online. Easy enough right? No, if you even click on cancel online it will give you the form but automatically freeze your membership which is a $10 charge. So just trying to cancel you are charge another $10. Before this I tried to call to make sure the manager was indeed in and that consisted of the worst hold process you have ever heard. It's several rings then "Thank you for calling LA fitness please stay on the line" and it repeats every 20 seconds. I was on hold for five minutes, I cannot express the torture hearing that dozens of times over. Finally a guy answers the phone and when I started to say I wanted to cancel he put me on hold immediately and then disconnected the call. This is why I even tried the online form which cost me $10 to even attempt to do. I cannot express enough how much I despise LA Fitness and nothing would make me happier than seeing this place go bankrupt.

I called to get few info over the phone and their sales rep literally was the definition of unprofessional, he wouldn’t give me exact figures, insisted that I should come to the gym to get the best price, poor negotiation and customer service... quick tip, when you answer the phone you have no idea who you speaking with? If you wanna work in sales you need better closing techniques, and you can’t get rude and upset at customers...people will buy from you simply because of YOU, let that sink in Ethan.

Decent enough gym. Could be cleaner. Make sure you allocate plenty of time out of your day if you ever wish to cancel, their only options are to mail a letter to California or wait for one of their fabled “general managers” to finally get off break. You’re better off going with the letter.

Basic but huge. Swimming pool and sauna there. No steam room. Bring your own towel and locks for the locker 🔒 free parking available Some things to improve: Some Bros just carry their damn bags around, didn't see enough mat cleaning at all, machines are quite occupied and cable machine attachment handles are all not visible in eye sight. Otherwise for the price I think this gym is appropriate.

Their Covid protocols are lacking and their cancellation policy is predatory and evil. I tried going when gyms reopened in early summer, but it quickly became clear that they were not taking the mask mandate seriously, as tons of members would take them off to catch their breath or if they thought no one was around. I resolved to freeze my membership, til the pandemic ends, but they charge you $10 a month for "freezing" it, so I decided to cancel. To cancel a membership here you have to dig around their website to find a cancellation form, then physically mail a cancellation form to California OR you have to take the form to the gym whenever the GM might be there and talk to the GM personally to drop the form off. It is insane that members cannot cancel online, especially due to the pandemic. I'm sure that they only make it so annoyingly difficult to steal additional undeserved money from people who are already hurting financially due to the pandemic. I had planned to renew post pandemic, but I absolutely will not be due to this cancellation practice.

I generally like this gym. It is always very clean and all of the staff are friendly and helpful. However there are quite a few downsides. The biggest one for me is just how incredibly hot and humid it is in here. Without moving at all I am dripping sweat because it’s about 20 degrees hotter in the weights area. I asked about why that was happening and an employee let me know the manager shut the AC off by the weights. Unfortunate that for the price you pay to workout here they are still cutting costs on something that makes people so uncomfortable. The other big problem is that you have absolutely no service at all. They have Wi-Fi but it’s hit or miss on getting not to work. Fixing these alone would make this gym 5 stars for me.

This gym does what it needs to, but is a bit of a mess, both literally and management wise. Literal: To wipe down equipment, wet wipes are provided, but not apparently restocked often, as they were all out the three days I attended last week. Weights are not in the correct area (free weights stacked up next to machines), and there is no encouragement to re-rack weights once finished. Management: I spoke with an individual who provided me a handwritten list of LA Fitness facilities which had racketball courts. Upon calling some of these clubs, it turns out that they are actually DIFFERENT gyms, who were highly confused about why an LA Fitness employee was telling people that an LA Fitness membership covered attendance at their gym. This same individual advised me that my special offer (29.99 per month) would be valid for a awhile, and that I could take my time while I considered joining the gym. However, when I went to enroll a few days after my free trial, the rate had now increased to 39.99 per month. Upon calling, the manager told me that "they are unpredictable....and may offer 29.99 later on to entice members). When using my free trial, I was pulled aside each time I went in, and taken to a desk to talk through the same information I had provided the day before, wasting around 10-15 minutes of workout time at each visit. Make your own choice when choosing a gym, but just keep these cons in mind.

Make sure that they not gonna charge you after you cancel your membership, they charge me twice and when I called them they said they will refund, lately when I came manager Jess was so rude and disrespectful, she started to blame me , seems like she doesn’t know her responsibilities or just doesn’t care about customers. She even didn’t try to explain what was the issue, instead she was arguing with me. Most of the stuff nice and helpful but not the manager Jess.

The gym itself is big and has many amenities, but... Staff is rude, can't be bothered with customers and lets club fall apart. No one even looks at you, much less greets you when you come in. Op Mgr Jen is the worst. She clearly doesn't understand customer service. And sadly she sets the mood for her team.

Every time I tried to cancel my membership (I had to relocate out of Chicago due to Covid), I get transferred and put on hold for extended periods of time only to get hung up on. The staff don't take COVID precautions seriously. Trainers high-fiving guys who don't have a mask on. Plus, if you want to end your membership, you can't cancel online - you have to print off a form and mail it to the corporate office. Use the money you'd invest in this into a home gym or find a smaller local gym.

I like to come here. They don't play obnoxious music. The music is kept at a very comfortable level. I like the fact that this is a nice big open area with different types of rooms with different types of things you can do. The locker rooms are clean. The staff at the front desk is clean. I mean they're friendly. They have the little juice bar if you want that. They have paper towels and spray and sanitizer all over the place. They have a pool and bikes and treadmills and weights and all kinds of stuff. it's just all around nice period and you can go to Mariano's or Starbucks when you're done. So you can take the Lawrence bus to this place and the Damon buses nearby. The metra is right there also. So it's just a good place to go to period it's just clean and quiet and comfortable.

the trial membership is weird. I got a free trial on the website that says 6 days free and wasn’t even informed that it isn’t valid at this location since they’re “busiest LA fitness in the city” until the third day when I got there. They said guest passes are not free in this location and that I have to get a membership to keep coming here. They basically made it seem like I’m in the wrong and that they didn’t make a mistake when they didn’t tell me on the first day. Anyways, the staff doesn't know how to communicate and explain, and they should remove the free trial from their website if it doesn’t apply to this location. I will get a membership but I won’t come to this location again.

Went on a first visit 7 day guest pass, which the clerk didn't want to honor. He finally did, then wanted my personal info to allow me in. Why? I was there to workout with a friend. I didn't feel welcomed, more like an intruder. This location was much too crowded on a Saturday morning for me. They have a lot of machines, so the chances of getting the machines you want are good. But there's absolutely no chance to social distance because the machines are so close together. With so many people there, I'm talking hundreds, I did not feel medically safe. With this number of people coming everyday masks should be required. Very few people wore one. I was there 2 hrs. I enjoyed that there are machines for every body part. I got a really good workout. It's a huge space but inadequate parking.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR PERSONAL TRAINING HERE I’ve never left a 1 star review ever in my life. The personal training is essentially guys following you around telling how how much to lift with minimal form advice and essentially NO NUTRITIONAL ADVICE. They also WILL AUTORENEW YOUR PERSONAL TRAINING CONTRACT EVEN AFTER IT IS OVER. You have to go into the gym and cancel it yourself. I was never told this and I wasn’t notified until after they had billed me an extra month and they called me about an issue with my card. Completely ignored by management (when Paul was in charge) for months while I tried to reach out about cancelling my membership. Untrustworthy place.

I been seeing Danny D ( master trainer) For 2 months as my trainer for twice a week. I see changes in my body. My muscles are more defined and I am much stronger. My arms definitely has an attractive relief now while my legs looks elongated and firm. My posture improved significantly and my back pain from my sedentary job disappeared. I do recommend him as he has the right energy of pushing you working harder and motivate you.

Friendly staff and thankfully not an intimidating crowd. I haven't found the super busy days and hours so it's been nice not running into the issue of machines not being available. My one complaint is how rusty the equipment is, I get it wear and tear happens. But be prepared to bring WD-40 and ready to get a tetanus shot. It's so hard to change the weights on the machines or adjust anything. The gym membership is getting expensive and the equipment is becoming archaic

Been going to this gym for some time now to follow a trainer I've been working with at another location. My trainer, Jimmy, is amazing, knowledgeable, and very helpful that's why when he got promoted and moved to another location, I started going to Lawrence so I can continue training with him. He definitely helps me reach my goals and pushes me to do better at every session. I'm grateful for all of his guidance and support in my journey towards good health and fitness. As for the gym itself, it's spacious enough, well kept, and tidy. The staff are all friendly too. I just wish they have a basketball court but despite that, this is a great LA Fitness branch.

TL;DR: The most I've been ripped off in my life. They lied, ignored/didn't return phone calls, used fine print technicalities to steal around $1000 for services I am no longer entitled to do, and in order to cancel, there is a one hour window that you have to come in person to utilize so if you work at 1pm on Tuesdays you better call off work or just keep paying. I signed up for a trainer and it was fine for a month or two until my trainer's scheduled shifted and I had to find a new one. After a month of calling and trying to schedule a new one with 0 of my 11 calls returned, I tried to cancel my $260 monthly payment. I was lied to about it being frozen so they continued charging me. I had to leave town for a month for work and when they charged me again I tried to cancel again but this time they told me that I had to come in person to cancel. I couldn't do that being out of town but the next month I drove to the gym to cancel. Surprise, surprise I was told I wasted my time because only one person could cancel my membership and she was only able to do it between 1-2pm on Tuesdays. When I took off work to come in for this highly specific schedule she was very apologetic and said not to worry because I could still utilize all of the sessions I had paid for after I cancel. Just call to schedule a time with a trainer. I called 5 separate times on 5 separate days where I would be transferred to the personal training department and either get no answer or be told to call back at another time when they could find someone to schedule me. Then surprisingly I was charged the full $260 again despite being told it was canceled. I called to complain and was told my plan was not canceled as they had said before. After getting stern on the phone and threatening legal action they magically gained the power to cancel my plan over the phone. After a few weeks of them still not calling me back I decided to go in person to schedule the training sessions I had accumulated. It turns out the fine print says I had 30 days to redeem those sessions and they were "sorry" that no one mentioned it but there was nothing else to be done. So that's my story. This gym stole a thousand dollars through fine print shenanigans, never called back, made it as difficult as possible to cancel, and never cared in the least about anything other than money.

Ibrahim, the general manager, was extremely helpful. He helped me and my partner resolve the issues we had, and we ended up saving money which was our major concern. Definitely would recommend talking to him with all questions administrative!

I’ve been a member at this location for 13 years. Clean, well maintained, courteous and addressed my concerns quickly. I use a personal trainer, Danny, for the past 3 yrs and have made huge changes in weight lifting and boxing 🥊. Highly recommend!!

The consultant (coach) deceived me and took advantage of the fact that I don't understand him. I made a contract (for one year) for personal training once a month and paid $ 195. And to make a cancellation, I need to pay more than $900. And their administrator does not care whether I was deceived or not. And at the same time they guarantee me the achievement of my sports goals. It's funny and funny. Thank you for a good experience. Good luck to everyone.

I've been working out at this gym regularly for about a year now. The location is excellent for me, and it's for this reason I would not visit a different gym. I have, however, noticed quite a few problems over the past year. Cleanliness: The gym recently switched from paper towels and sanitary spray to little cloths that resemble drier sheets. They are inferior to simple paper towel and spray. As a result, I'm sure the machines over all will tend to remain dirtier. The cleaning power of the cloths deteriorate rapidly once they are removed from the container and begin to dry out. This seemed like a cost cutting move to me--I can't think of a time when I've seen the gym invest in, rather than cut corners on, quality. The showers often have bits of paper towel or bandaids floating around in on the floor, and the water pools quite a bit rather than being carried immediately down the drain. There's frequently visible black mold in their and on occasion drain flies are perched on the walls. One week, the men's bathroom smelled like feces for a couple days straight. I emailed management about it, and they said it was as a result of an unfilled position that was about to be filled. The bathroom was indeed cleaned after the email, but in my view, a health club bathroom should never smell like poop--somebody *must* do that job. The showerheads are hit or miss--at least one of them sends water flying more horizontally rather than vertically, and last I was in, one of the soap dispensers just didn't work. (It's a kind of industrial detergent that you'd be better off skipping if you have the forethought of bringing your own soap, anyway.) There's never less than one aspect of the gym that's broken. Crowds: During peak hours, you may find yourself waiting for a while to get on the equipment you need. Outside of peak hours, it's not too bad. As of this writing, they're making a big push to add more members. I'd rather they raise the cost slightly and focus on providing a better service to their current members rather than add on more. I think the quality bleeds into the mentality of the members also: a lot of people will not do simple things like rerack their weights or even wipe down their machines--those little drier cloths often end up on the floor (they lack the necessary heft to easily find their way into a trash can). I once put my hand on somebody's booger, left on a bench. Equipment: It definitely gets the job done. On occasion a machine is broken down or has some sort of malfunction. It's usually just a matter of getting access to the equiment you need during peak hours that can be the problem. It'll definitely get the job done if you're looking to get a workout, but file this gym under "no frills."

Great gym, nice staff that do their best to keep it clean. Usually has a good amount of people working out at anytime, has plenty of parking as well. Wish this place had a basketball court!

I like to go here and work out on the machines. They've got all kinds of machines. The pool looks okay. I've never been in the pool but they've got tons of machines here they got a huge section of free weights and other things in the back. And you know they've got a juice bar in there. And they've got other like vending machines if you want to buy pop or juice or sports drinks or whatever. But they have the hand sanitizer in the paper towels and the sanitizer that you can use to wipe down the equipment. And it's located right off of the metra Union Pacific northline stop at Lawrence avenue. And the 81 Lawrence bus stop there.

Awesome gym! Did you know that there's much less gun violence inside this LA Fitness than elsewhere in Chicago? In fact, I don't want to jinx anything, but I've never witnessed any illegal activity here. Check out this LA for sure! Clean locker rooms & a large selection of machines/free weights await you!

Everything is good, not perfect , but good enough. Just sometimes I can see people ( looks like without experience ) doing very dangerous for their health mistakes and there is no trainer on duty who's watching this and can give an advice. It might be very very dangerous! And also some equipment needs fixing

Huge Fitness Centre with options galore in the cardio, cycle, machines and free weights. The pool can be crowded at times, but with a short waiting time. There are several options and timings for the live classes (Zumba, Yoga etc) The Kids Klub is a useful option for those with kids,

While visiting my family in Chicago I noticed an LA Fitness in their neighborhood, and decided to try and set up workouts during my visit. I spoke with Nick, he was phenomenal in getting things set up. This facility is very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I noticed several clean stations throughout the fitness center with wipes and spray bottles. I was also impressed that the members were taking advantage of the cleaning stations and wiping down their equipment after each use. I work out routinely in Texas and will definitely return to this LA Fitness when visiting again and will recommend to others

I arrived at the gym and found parking right away. As I walked in, I couldn't help but notice just how clean it was. It was not overcrowded and the gym was filled with more than enough machines to avoid having to wait. I got in a great workout, sauna time and some swimming. They had sanitary stations with paper towels and sprays for everyone to wipe their equipment with but I would recommend a few more sanitary stations. Great gym experience.. I definitely recommend it.

I've been a member here for over a year, working out in the mornings. For some background on me, I have several years of experience working at gyms, management and front desk. There's rarely a day here where I don't have to waste time hunting down equipment. No one puts their weights back, the staff certainly doesn't care to have their gym in order so that people can work out quickly and efficiently. Salespeople chill at their desks, personal trainers shoot dirty looks at anyone trying to better themselves without their help. No one takes pride in their work and so everyone seems miserable, go figure. The cleaning staff work hard but don't seem appreciated, probably expected to do too much. A single cleaning lady is the only one I've seen picking up weights, breaking her poor back alone. The maintenance guys are good, they fix things quickly. The management that I've seen treats the members nicely when they're there. His staff does not seem to follow suit, besides the front desk they barely acknowledge people. I think this gym could easily be better if there were any sense of teamwork, no one wants to be in a miserable environment when they're trying to show up consistently.

A company of this size, who soaks you for initiation fees and annual fees, plus the monthly fee should not have this many problems. Hot water heater broken for 4th consecutive day. You can’t know how much of an inconvenience that is for people who work out before going straight to work and suddenly cannot shower. I spoke to manager and he told me the $1900 quote was not approved by corporate. I’m pretty sure a day’s worth of membership from every member could’ve satisfied this. Unacceptable. I also think the music over the PA should be background music, not blasting. I couldn’t hear my own music through my headphones. Really want to give this gym a chance, but they aren’t making it easy.
