Really enjoyed it, very interesting, and friendly guides, although using the app as we walked around gave us so much information, thinking about doing the ghost tour if I dare seeing as it's the 3rd most haunted place in England!!! Well worth the visit, lively tea rooms too!!

Our tour guide sold this place to us, being so informative, knowledgeable and oozed enthusiasm. We paid for the underground tunnels extra which was a great addition to the tour. Cafe was lovely though I thought their offerings could be more extensive. Loved the teapot, and want one! Sell them! Next cricicism/plea ... you need a shop where I can get tea towel/bag/pencil, and that gorgeous big pink teapot!

Gorgeous building and gardens with beautiful views. We visited with family when the farmers market and craft fair was taking place. We bought our lunch from one of the many stalls selling locally made produce and ate it on the lawn which was good fun and the food was delicious wish we'd had more time to join one of the tours round this amazing place. We will definitely return!

Well worth a visit. We had a tour by Eric. A very informative, interesting and occasionally funny, tour. The gardens are certainly worth a walk around. The location is fantastic, with views across the Lancashire countryside.

Walked round the gardens while waiting for the start time for house tour including tunnels. Excellent guided tour with lots of info and somethings for children. Linda was a very good guide.

Excellent tour, beautiful gardens and house and the guide helped make it special. Lovely afternoon tea too. Not overly suitable for young children as the depth of the tour would make them bored.

Booked an afternoon tea for a 70th birthday based off the number of 5 star and positive reviews. While the food was lovely, it was a real let down. Given the grandeur of the setting; the entry sign 'closed to visitors' was unwelcoming/confusing and the tearoom itself incredibly dated. Given that we spent a small fortune on a special birthday treat, to be sat in a dingy room with decor from the 90s was not what we had expected. Disappointed family. This isn't to take away from the nice waitress who served us, but I could have gone elsewhere had we known it was going to be basically nothing like the swish images online.

We had a brilliant time on our half term family friendly spooky tour with Alan. He was really engaging and kept our two entertained and mildly terrified by his spooky tales. The walk round the gardens and the hunt for the letters to find the phrase and win a prize was also brilliant. We popped in to the tea rooms for coffee and cake too which was lovely. All in all a fantastic half term day out.

We visited the historic side of Hoghton Tower. We have been twice now and will go again. Each time we have taken the guided tour, you always find out something new. Amazing to find places like this virtually on your doorstep. This place is well worth the visit, set in beautiful countryside, as you make the turn into the long drive.. well, if first impressions mean anything. The little tea room is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend checking out their website to look out for events such as farmers markets etc

Actually went to see a classic car show being hosted here, but the place itself seems very nice and interesting, if this kind of thing floats ya boat! Gardens to explore too. Defo worth a visit.

We just did the tour, rather than staying (I didn't realise you could stay, but it would be worth it for the ghosts alone). The building is superb and in excellent condition. The guides are very friendly and knowledgeable and were effusive in their admiration of our little girl. The only downsides are that my dog couldn't come, and the cafe has a limited selection of food and the staff were somewhat odd (although friendly enough). I'd certainly recommend a visit.

The new free-flow tours give visitors time and space to fully absorb the atmosphere and beauty of this stunning house. Knowledgeable guides are present in each room but they allow you to explore at your own pace. Highly recommend.

My lovely Mum & I attended your Murder Mystery evening on Friday evening and what a fantastic night we had in such a beautiful building. The food was delicious, the staff were very attentive and the entertainment was great fun. To top it off, we shared a table with two lovely ladies who made our night even more fun. We hope you host another event like this in the future, as we'd definitely book again. Thank you for a memorable fun night xx 😊

I booked an afternoon tea for my grandma's 86th birthday and I couldn't recommend it enough!! My grandma has limited mobility so the steps surrounding the tower were a bit of an issue (this is because the property is a grade 1 listed building so they cannot build ramps to make it accesible) however, the staff were more than accommodating to make her experience as comfortable as possible. Natalie made arrangements for us before our arrival and gave me plenty of information regarding the accessibility. The afternoon tea was amazing and so tasty! Our server was Jack, and they were absolutely amazing from start to finish. Catered to every need and made the experience lovely for me and my grandma. They recommended a walk round the gardens (which I thought we wouldn't be able to do due to the accessibility) however, when I mentioned this, they radioed their colleague to take us on a mini tour of the ground floor of the house and also allowed us to get to the gardens without the use of steps. They even gave us a little history tour whilst they guided us to the gardens. Lovely VIP treatment! As we was leaving the older gentleman who originally greeted us and helped my grandma up the stairs came to wave us off and gave us some more history on the tower. All in all, the staff were amazing from Start to finish!!!! The only reason I knocked it a star was because I couldn't see information on the accessibility of the property straight away so it was a good job I asked but the staff more than made up for it. Big thanks to Jack again for making our afternoon tea experience so special- they are an absolute credit to the company ❤️

Did the ghost tour with family and friends. It was a great experience hearing the dark stories of its past , the building is amazing to see too. We all enjoyed it, and the good food topped it all off. Defo recommend.

Wonderful place to visit, the tours are full of interesting information, with wonderful guided tours from the volunteers and the staff in the tea rooms are very polite, friendly and well dressed!

Had a wander round on market day (third Sunday of each month). It's a lovely old, atmospheric building from the outside, and there's a small charge for the gardens.

There were no tours available so we did a house visit. All volunteers were very knowledgeable answered all of our questions and told us soo much about the history of the house. We had 4 children aged 7 to 13, the volunteers at the house were so friendly, the way they explained kept the children engaged. The amount of house and gardens we saw is limited, considering the building is vast, but it's definitely worth a visit. The tea rooms were pleasant too. Too attract more families they could have worksheets for children to spot items in the house and gardens.

I visited Hoghton Tower for the Farmer's Market on Sunday, May 21st. For a first time visit, but fairly experienced with this kind of event, I was impressed. Nice range of stalls and very friendly vendors. Apparently you can visit the courtyard of the main Hall for free while here, but better to check, because I didn't actually do that. I'll definitely return in the future but perhaps not every month...my waistline wouldn't allow it ha ha.

Lovely place to visit. Great staff (Linda was very helpful on the phone especially with our accessibility queries, Patrick gave us very good info when we arrived and Richard helped too). Jeff was our tour guide of the house and his knowledge was amazing. The tour is very comprehensive and you even go down into the tunnels. The gardens are small and pleasant. Cafe had a good selection of cakes and the cafe staff were warm and friendly. They also had afternoon tea which we didn't have but it looked great. It was lovely of Sir Bernard (the owner) to have a chat with us as we were leaving.

A lovely afternoon spent here ( more for adults than kids). Gardens are small but pretty and the tour(about 1hr 30mins) of the house was very interesting and informative, well worth the cost if you are interested in history. Coffee in the small tea room was very good

Had a lovely visit to the tea rooms for a gifted afternoon tea and house tour. The food was lovely and the staff there were so polite, friendly and chatty and made for a lovely atmosphere and meal. The gentleman on the main ticket office was very polite and friendly. The visit was spoilt by the older gentleman who was in the main house entrance who was very rude, abrasive and needs to learn some common courtesy and manners. We had a house tour included in the afternoon but has we had no tokens we were not allowed in. After speaking with the ticket desk he admitted he should have given us the tokens but said as our name was on the list we could show the email and that would let us in, however, the rude gentleman would not accept that. Lovely afternoon spoilt by a rude member of staff.

Lovely for an afternoon! The staff were great, full of information and very friendly! The tea rooms are lovely, with the tea being made just right and a lovely cake selection. The tour round the house with Christine was great, very informative, and lots of opportunities to actually stop and look, and ask questions. Will definitely be back

Really enjoyable day, the tour was very interesting. The afternoon tea was superb, staff could not do enough for us. Would highly recommend. You do need to book in advance unless going to see the gardens and having a brew in the tea room

  • 4/5 Chris C. 9 months ago on Google
Book online for the tour of the house but be guided by the info which indicates the size of the party, ours was massive and we were crushed into little rooms or unable to hear the guide at times. Very enjoyable although the grounds were limited and somewhat basic compared to other historic places of interest, this said; well worth a visit. DO NOT FOLLOW ARROWS OUT OF SIDE CAR PARK AS ROAD IS NOT FIT FOR USE - leave the same route you enter

Had a great afternoon tea a week ago. Catered for all dietary requirements, really well presented food, beautiful historic building and surroundings are stunning. Staff were friendly and attentive. We will definitely go back, one of the best afternoon teas we have had. Thank you.

Lovely place steeped in history, very interesting tour with great knowledge about the history and family from our guide Alan. If you have an interest in history you ll love it. Lovely garden and tea room. Added bonus today a farmers market every 3rd Sunday. £2 parking when market on otherwise free. Loved it

I visited the monthly farmers market and really enjoyed the experience. The buildings are wonderful and it really provides a taste of how people lived in the 1600s . If you enjoy history and architecture I would highly recommend we even had the pleasure of a very brief chat with the current owner of the building who was obviously very proud of his family home. I would highly recommend we plan to return to the market again and also book one of the tours

Went for festive afternoon tea, tour of house and coincided with market. The market was very poor with lots of extremely overpriced foods and little in the way of festive goods. The house was beautiful, the tour informative and the festive afternoon tea wonderful. The characters within the tour got better as we made our way to the main room. Special mention to Jack who served our afternoon tea. Their delightful manner made our day end on a special note.

Arrived for a ghost walk. Food was part of the tickets price. Excellent service and hot tasty food. Enjoyed the ghost walk. Informative guides who worked hard to develop the atmosphere. Unfortunately no ghostly action on this tour. I would recommend a visit.

This is a fantastic building with interesting history. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. We went on a quiet day and the staff loved to talk. Absolutely brilliant. Only downside, no photography inside the house. Fair enough as the family still live there. Tea room, facilities and you can buy souvenirs

I actually went to the motorcycle hillclimb event held on Hoghton Towers Driveway it was a great day with beautiful weather to add to the smells of bellray and castrol R from some classic and modern bikes

Gorgeous place to visit. Me and a team of students are using it as a film set in February and are definitely looking forward to filming there.

Went to the Motorcycle Sprint racing. A great venue for this and it was well organised. Houghton Tower is a great place. A couple more food outlets would have been good to cope with the lunchtime rush.

Had a wonderful day out with the family. The tour was really interesting. Linda our volunteer guide was extremely knowledgeable and really took care to engage us all. Our 7 year old granddaughter loved it. The gardens were lovely and the views are amazing. Before we left we sat in the sunshine taking it all in. Thank you

Lovely historical building in beautiful surroundings. Book ahead to ensure you can enjoy a tour of the house and also try and coincide with the artisan markets once a month, some fantastic produce on offer.
