I have been to a lot of hostels, but this one was the worst! Honestly, I didn’t mind sleeping next to homeless looking people in the 8 person dorm, but the staff was rarely around, and made mistakes like saying I hadn’t booked there when I did, messing up the number of days, and placing someone in my bed part way through my stay. The bathroom floor tiles sink down and brown water flows up from them after you take a shower. But, worst of all, when they switched me to a different bed after someone was placed in mine, there were BEDBUGS! I had to throw out all of my clothes and bag because when I realized, they were crawling all over my stuff!

A mail "renter" who hadn't paid refused to leave the 6 bed room designated for women only. Management didn't handle the situation well so cops had to be called. To top it off no air condition and bed bugs. Still waiting for reimbursement. Dissapointing since the location of little Italy was high end

This place is absolutely disgusting. While at first it looked okay, upon closer inspection I saw how gross it was. #1 issue, BEDBUGS! After laying in bed for a few minutes (luckily not under the covers) I felt them crawling on me. I quickly gathered my things and left. I was able to get a refund but this is ridiculous. The shower I used was also not clean and communal along with with the toilet. The rooms were also small and shared among 4 people. Not worth a penny, you are better off sleeping in your car. I should have read the literally writing on the wall (they have a wall near reception where guest write comments) that said "Warning Bedbugs!" DO NOT STAY HERE!

Bed bug infested, terrible customer service, no receptionist, they don’t answer the phone. Haven’t been able to speak with anyone regarding my issues at the property.

Staff is very helpful, always cleaning. Kitchen is open in the morning and again in the evening to cook your own food. Large rooms, large showers, plenty of bathrooms. The vibe is quiet relaxation and lots of laughter. The hostel is located on the free downtown Circuit route, so you can get free door to door rides to grocery shop, laundromats, etc. Just download the free Circuit app in Google Play. Bring a towel and an extra sheet or blanket. This hostel is great for older guests, with a large back deck to relax outdoors.

I stayed here for a week while in transition to my new house. I had never had a bed bug encounter until I stayed here. Upon waking up on the forth day I began to notice welts all over my body. Initially, I thought nothing of it as we slept with the windows open. That was until I actually saw a bed bug on my bunk!! I was out of there so quickly!! Thank goodness I had very little personal belongings with me at that point as I had to deep clean and disinfect everything that touched down in this dump. Management and owner alike were unaffected by the complaints and displayed a complete disregard for the health and safety of their customers. Would not wish this place upon my worst enemy.

Please, clean or replace carpet, clean hair from sink, floor, and shower drain in shower room, need new and cleaner mattress, need furniture cleaner, turn lights on, push bed closer to wall instead of unevenly near the walls.

R.K. Hostel isn't a terrible chamber of horrors like Lucky D's hostile hostel on skidrow. It's small and informal, apparently most popular with older guys, possibly the same men who'd be renting the old SRO -- single room occupancy hotel -- that Lucky D was lucky enough to snatch up and rent to airy-headed Europeans too oblivious to realize they're paying top dollar to live in a slum. The guy who runs the desk here -- he opens around 7 pm -- is nice, unssuming, and a life-long player in the US experience. This is in contrast to the people they've apparently snuggled in from the remote planetary corners to snap at us at Lucky D's. I started my R.K. Hostel experience with a young, well-educated and possibly terrified guy. He was my only roommate. After talking with him a while, I went to sleep. A few hours later, I awoke and noticed that the guy had packed up and vanished. Possibly he is unaccustomed to sleeping near a cow. I need to know what drove him away. Maybe it was my knowledge of the airport? Maybe I snore? I need to know. A log should be mandatory at the hostel: "I fled this room because...." Keep in mind: if you can't get into that hostel on 6th near University in Hillcrest, come here to RK in Little Italy. If everything is full except at Lucky D's, consider sleeping free with the others living on the sidewalk out front by Lucky D's door on 8th Street. Skidrow in San Diego is known by many pretty names. My favorite is The East Village (of the purely destitute). Another is The Gaslamp Quarter, a name that references the minimum that a panhandler will accept. Stay in Hillcrest if possible, the ITH or something Balboa Park (they don't want to scare the homophobic in advance). Then, if that's full, stay here. Little Italy is just as expensive as Hillcrest buy not as enlightened.

The roo.s are very simple, which is fine but the second day in the hostel after sleeping in the bed, I managed to find that I was being bitten by some kind of bug. I received number bites on my arms, shoulder head and chest. R.K. HOSTEL seemed clean to the naked eye but I feel it should fumigated . The quality of customer service differ from person to person. Justin who help me to my room was very professional and kind. The other fellow that walked with a limp was very rude and not very friendly.

This hostel definitely stands out from others in that the rooms actually have single-deck beds. Even though the hostel is located right underneath the landing path of the airplanes landing into San Diego, you don't hear the noise from inside at all. It has a kind of log cabin feel to it because the floors are wooden. Absolutely would stay in again. Location is also next to plenty of convenience stores and Italian dine-ins you can just walk into.

Shout out to Yoshi for recommending some amazing restaurants. This hostel is in the heart of Little Italy and could not be better. It's one block away from India street and all the action. The farmers market on Sundays are the best in San Diego!

Had an early flight into San Diego, called the hotel to ask about an early check in possibility and if not, to ask if could the front desk could hold our bags until a room was available. The clerk was very rude during that phone call. After taking a Lyft from the airport, he did take our bags, but was again pretty rude about our inquiry as to a time frame when we could come back and check in. Later that afternoon when we returned, the room we were given was in the most simple terms just gross. Paper thin walls, dirty furniture, and a disheveled shared bathroom was all we needed to decide not to stay. The only good part was that they did refund our card for not staying, we were lucky to find another place close by.

There were problems during my stay but mostly with things I couldn't change like the rooms being crowded, hot and dirty and the staff being unprofessional. The location is fine though because it's near a transit stop and the harbor which makes it beautiful.

The price is why. The rooms was like a dorm, 6 bed for women. Privacy is imperative and I certainly got that.Very laid back. Got bit up by fleas.

This place is nasty and goes against all health policies. My first night in this room, I was laying down and I see something passing me by in the mattress. It was a bed bug! My first thought was they must be all over my belongings now, and so it was. I spoke to the property manager and denied ever having a problem about it, she was rude and negligent. Next couple of days I go to the bathroom at 1 o’clock in the morning, I see bed bugs walking on the walls, I check the shower cause I started to get paranoid. I found bed bugs on the shower floor and the walls as well. I even spotted eggs on the corners. Property manager kept denying it, as if it wasn’t enough, you would think that because this hostel is located in Little Italy, it would be a nicer experience, but no. The kind of people that live there rank between homeless and people with mental issues, you can tell due to the cursing and drama, I couldn’t use the kitchen to cook my breakfast because the stove is old and burns the food. Please be careful with your belongings because they get lost easily. DO NOT STAY HERE, IF YOU’RE READING THIS, REPORT THIS PLACE SO IT GETS SHUT DOWN.

I'm so angry at this hotel!!!! 😠😠 I cannot believe this place! My children (7-10) are so traumatized from this place! First of all, when I checked in I was RUDELY! welcomed by the desk agent. She told me to wait 20 minutes for my room because it was being "cleaned" then she sat on her phone the whole rest of the time. 35 MINUTES later! They finally said we could go through. We finally got to our room and the bed was still not made, the walls were so dirty! There was hair all over the bathroom walls and the towels had very clearly not been cleaned. The trash was still full as well!!! The showers barely worked there wasnt any water pressure at all! I did not end up taking a shower that night. I was severely disappointed in this hotel. Later that night while I was in bed with my two children i felt something in the matress. Automatically I assumed that was my 7 year old however it was too small to be him. it turns out IT WAS BED BUGS!!!!!! 😡😡😡😭😭😰😰 I was so horrified!! I immediately got out of bed and we slept in the car that night.
