This is a favorite for my pup and I! The dog park itself is fenced in and very large, large enough to have some space for dogs to run and separate if your dog doesn’t do crowded spaces or just needs a little walk to reset. There is no separate fencing for large/small dogs but the fenced in area is large enough that smaller and larger dogs can both play in the park without even interacting if desired. There are two entrances which is soooooo helpful since the main one is often where the action is, the side entrance is probably preferable for dogs needing a slower introduction. The park is always clean (as clean as dog parks get) and there’s plenty of “terrain” for the dogs to run and play on. There’s a water fountain with a little dog bowl attached to it near the main gate…HUGE lifesaver! Our favorite part about this park is how close it is to balboa bridge and all of the other attractions that are right across the bridge, plus it’s near multiple trail entry points. Parking is usually free along the street if you don’t go at peak times, (and I don’t recommend going when they’re doing street cleaning…follow what the signs say…they WILL give you a ticket!) Overall 10/10 from my pup and I

Beautiful arrangement for dog lovers to take them out. They even have a swimming pool for dogs.

Large fenced-in park, lots of space for pups to run around freely. Dog owners are generally good at watching their dogs. However, there is very little grass or trees. Most of it is dirt. Last time we went in November 2021, the water fountain had no water due to pipe issues.

Came for the first time with my 2 labs and will keep coming. One of the few places left in SD with a large open space for dogs to play off leash. Other dog owners seemed fine. Only recommendation is make sure you bring your own "poop bags". All the bins were out so just a heads up!

Great dog park. It’s definitely overwhelming for some dogs. But overall it’s good cause it’s caged. The water fountain doesn’t work well so bring your own water. The other dog parks in the area seem to be open field. It’s a good thing this one exists.

Overall this is a very nice, safe, well fenced, open Park. There are plenty of poop bags and trash receptacles spaced all around the park on both sides oh, so that you never have to walk more than 40 or 50 ft to get one! Which may explain why there's not a lot of fecal matter left on the ground. The dogs can run and play and have a good time. There is a Wilderness just outside the fart so there are squirrels and bugs and birds and everything else that your dog needs to keep it interested. There's also a gate in the back if you want to take your dog out walking in the Backwoods. There are some pretty cool wood growth, some old trees, and then a little bit of a hill goes down and around on on both ends. So there is a lot for your dog to do, there are a lot of different kinds of people for you to watch, and it's in a beautiful setting. What more could you ask for? I do want to point out also, did I did find it a little odd, that they didn't want you walking your dog all the way to the Gated exit area before you put them on the leash? Bad sign that clearly stated well one said you had to put it on six feet before your dog got to the gate, the other one was in the middle of the park and an arrow pointing both ways and said that the leash-free area ended that side of the sign? So I'm not really sure, which for me, means I'm positive hahaha

Nates Point Dog Park is a great place to bring your furry kids to come and stretch out their legs and to socialize with other doggies. I’ve been coming here for years now and it’s a wide and long area for them to play and fetch the ball, it’s never to crowded and they have doggy bags for when your furry kids do their business. It has some great views of the bridge, the museum of us and it’s it’s located conveniently by the freeways. There’s always plenty of parking close by, they have water fountains for you and your furry kids. It’s mainly all dirt with plenty of trees scattered around the park. They have one picnic table but I wouldn’t recommend eating your meals on it , it tends to smell like urine around the entrance of the park but that’s expected at dog parks. It would be nice if they added more seating or a dog playground. I would definitely recommend to friends and family. The Haunted Trails is located close by in October.

Awesome space to bring your dog to get some exercise off leash. Yeah, there could be grass(It's pretty much all dirt), but it's a dog park. I'm just happy they get to have great time. It's totally fenced in, so that's a huge plus. And everyone seems to be real nice there.

This dog park is large and fenced. There is a water fountain inside at the front entrance. The best shade is further down under a beautiful tree that the kids love to climb. We have taken our dogs to this park many times and it is always enjoyable. I do not believe there is a restroom near though.

From what I understand there was grass here years ago but not since I've moved here 6 years ago. But still a wide open dog park. I love it. There is only one table with benches to sit on but behind them there are trees worn from time that can be sat on in the shade. Most, if not all, people that bring their dog(s) here are good about their dogs, attentive and nice if there are any altercations. Dogs will be dogs but 'Karens' will surprise you every now and again. I find it very safe. I have yet to have any issues.

This is a great place to bring your friends (doggo) and let them mix it up with others and make new friends. I love sitting by and watching how excited all the dogs get when they see, hear and smell the others as they approach the gate to enter the enclosed play area. Everyone has an awesome time running, jumping, barking and playing with all the other dogs. Double gated as you enter the play area which has a water supply and shade trees where the humans can socialize and watch their fuzzy companions have the time of their lives. Even after sunset it's great to watch dogs with LED collars play with LED frisbees and LED balls. Fun for all.

Great place just to hang our on a Saturday! Parking can be chaotic, but a fun place to hang out. Not to mention, the occasional live band comes there!

Great place to take your bigger dog as there is a really huge area for them to roam. Our dog is less than 30 pounds so we decided he won't be safe.

Love nate's Point, largest enclosed space for dogs. Plenty of space for your pup to run. Just beware from time to time mudholes pop up.

One of the bigger dog parks in San Diego, right near the West end entrance to Balboa Park. It's also next to the historic Cabrillo Bridge and walking trails that run parallel to the Scenic State Hwy 163. Nearby is the Banker's Hill neighborhood that has a great selection of eateries. In the Fall one of San Diego's best Halloween attractions, the Haunted Trail, is just a block's distance South.

Great open space that's fenced in. There is no separation of big and little dogs. There are a couple tables except one has no seats. There is a water fountain for the dogs to drink out of. It's a decent dog park and my greyhound loves having so much space to run.

  • 4/5 Patrick L. 2 years ago on Google
Decent Dog Park, they always have water and extra doggie bags if needed. Only complaint is that it’s mostly dirt, so it tends to get dusty when dogs run around.

  • 5/5 Caska R. 1 year ago on Google
It is a pretty big park. There are logs and such for the dogs to climb on instead of play-ground like equipment. It's a beautiful natural area right next to Balboa Park. It is also a well maintained park. There's enough space to throw balls and play fetch. There are always plenty of dogs there to play with or at least a few.

I love that it’s gated because my dog loves to play games with me when she’s unleashed. There’s always water available and poopy bags. This park is HUGE so your dog will have a lot of fun if they like to run and explore. There’s also some restrooms just a short walk away.

Convenient location within walking distance to the museums with a large fenced-in area and water fountain. However, there is no grass and not much shade with only one picnic table for seating while your dog runs.

Nice wide open off leash area for bigger dogs. A few tables to sit at and a lot of shade spread out thru the area by trees. Water fountain and poop backs provides at well at trash cans in different area of the park.

Definitely the spot if you want your dog to run around a bit w/o a leash. The day/time we visited, there was a woman there who was a police dog instructor. She instilled confidence in my brother-in-law who brought their young American Bully dog there. She encouraged my brother-in-law to let go and allow their young dog to socialize. Their dog loved it! Place got a water fountain for both humans and dogs. 😊

Wonderfully large dog park with tons of room to play. Fully fenced to protect your pup. Lots of areas to go to if there are any aggressive dogs you need to avoid.

By far the best dog park I've been to when it comes to regulars. You really get to know people and their dogs and just have a relationship with your own dog as well in the process. My dog Ellie has made great friends everlasting friendship here with people and other dogs.

I’m always walking by Nate‘s dog park on my way into Balboa Park and the zoo. My girlfriend has a dog and she loves it and her dog loves it to. I hung out waiting for her there went and watched all the dogs playing together and how spacious it is and how if I was a dog I want to go here there was enough space so they could all be really friendly or have their space. There’s parking nearby on Balboa Drive I believe and there’s gorgeous trees all around it’s just before the bridge that takes you into Balboa Park near sixth Avenue I went on a Saturday morning and it wasn’t even crowded. It’s a great nature space.

This is a great enclosed park for the doggos. I do wish it had more ground cover but I realize how difficult that can be. The double gate entry is a life saver; I've got a little pupper who we are working on recall.

This is probably the biggest dog park around the area which makes it an ideal place to start training leash-free. The location is ideal to go for a walk around the park if the dog has enough energy. There's a couple of picnic tables as an option for spending some time here. Place is clean since there's many trash cans and it seems bugs are not an issue. It is 24 hours but there's not those many lights so bring your own lamp if planning on going late.

Tucked on the southwest end of Balboa Park along 6th avenue is this really neat leash free dog park that allows pets owners to socialize while their furry kids play. We bring our dog here and have never had any issues with dog aggression. Most of the dogs are well socialized and friendly and with restroom facilities nearby, and the heart of the park about 100 years away makes for a perfect day at the park. There is a dog friendly water fountain and plenty of trash cans for waste if your dog drops a deuce.

Lots of room nature provides everything they need and man provides fence. In five years I've only seen one bad incident and that was the owners fault ignoring his dog. Clean, beautiful,

Excellent San Diego dog park located in the heart of Balboa park. Parking is ample and free within the park. Grab a bite to eat at The Market Place deli on 5th @ Nutmeg and grub down with your pooch in Nate’s Point dog park.

Hiked this weekend with my wife and two yorkies. The fur babies approves of it. They loved being off leash! Although it's a bit busy, people still maintained social distancing. The trail is clean too. I would definitely go back again! No wonder a lot if people that have dogs come here to hike.

I enjoy taking my dog here. Owners wear your gym shoes because there is no grass and you will get dirty. Expansive fenced in area but no separation between big and small dogs so if that’s what you’re looking for this space is not for you. Just like anything else keep an eye on your pup, some owners seem apprehensive to step in and reprimand dogs when some things escalate. Lots of sun, but there’s a water fountain for your pup and enough shade to find a place to sit if need be!

Its ok. Dirty. Enclosed, fenced in. Want to have a relaxing tine in a huge, beautiful dog park? Skio Nate's and trek the extra mike and go to Grape St. Way better. The only advantage to Nate's is its 24 hours.

This place is HUGE! I’ve never been to such a large dog park. There are always lots of dogs for your fur baby to play with. The only con is that it’s not grassy and wearing sneakers is a must. Also try to come before the sunset. It gets really dark in this area and it’s hard to see your dog.

Best off leash dog park in San Diego, in So Cal as far as I am concerned - and as far as my dogs are concerned! Nate's is located in Balboa Park the views are absolutely beautiful. The off leash area is huge. I walk my dogs around the perimeter several times in each visit. Plenty of shade trees and lots of dogs to play with in most days.

My favorite dog park in California and Nevada! It's huge compared to any others I've been to. It's well kept, people pick up after their dogs and are nice about holding the water fountain for dogs other than their own. Really peaceful place to bring your dog to run and play with other dogs. All sizes are in together and sometimes there is a small child or 2 so be careful if your dog doesn't like children. Lots of room to run or play fetch with your 4 legged friends.

Moved to SD a few months ago so I've been trying a handful of dog parks in the area. I love that this park is in Balboa Park, as it is so beautiful! The dog park itself is super spacious and fenced in, so it is perfect for dogs who like to explore and roam around on their own. There is a good amount of seating and tons of room throughout the park to maintain distance from others.
