Do not use Google Maps to get you to Gator Beach. It's going to get you driving through a naval military base on Tarawa Rd. That's the entrance to a naval base and has an mp checkpoint. Go east and enter on Avenida Lunar on foot! To get to Coronado beach.

an amazing base beach, a little tricky to find from the main road but so worth it in the end. it's 5% of the foot traffic and population of coronado beach, there was so much room to relax and play, mini nex a walk away to get drinks or snacks and huuuuuuuge cabanas free to use and even to grill at! the water and sand's quality was amazing, and there were so many little clams and shells in the sand. highly recommend to any military family.

Beautiful stretch of beach, uncrowded due to limited access. Must have military or DoD ID or be a guest to get on. Right next to the Coronado beach condo towers and a chill surf spot. Might have to dodge Navy SEALS in their BUDS training program on the beach.

This beach is always less crowded than other beaches, plus the parking lot is never full and it's close enough to the water that you don't have to lug all your stuff a long ways to get to the water. But there is usually a large sand dune you have to climb. It's a trade off, but worth it.

If you have friends in the military then this is the go too beach with few people to deal with. Good waves and pretty empty beach

Relaxing beach to take kids to play on the sand, hunt for shells and sand dollars, watch surfers, play volleyball or sun bathe. Located on Military property, you'll need an ID to get in.

Beautifully gold glittery sand and roomy private feel. Great for the kids due to shallow water for a good amount of radius.I found half a sand dollar & thousands of living tiny clams or mussels. Views of the storks hunting & feeding is a fantastic sight. Enjoy!

Out of the othet naval bases in san diego. This one has the nicest beach. People are distancing from each other. There is a lot of space for the amount of space this place has. Also doesn't have a bad smell compared to the other beaches.

Went here a few times. Must have a military ID to access this beach. The beach is pretty but there is always seaweed in the water. Last time we went, we were walking on tons of seaweed and it made the swimming less enjoyable. Other than that, it's great.

Best beach in all South Bay. Feels private because it’s on the base!

πŸ‘πŸ‘ The only downside,I lost my wallet with all my id and am still waiting for some to turn it in. I figured with it being on base I would have gotten in back quickly. I came out here to visit my family and enjoy spending time with them in San Diego. Update: The day before I flew out I was called by a...

πŸ‘πŸ‘ My husband and I usually visit this beach. One of the amazing beaches of San Diego which is relatively less windy. If one is looking to chill with friends around a camp fire, do some barbecue, this is the place. The shore is clean as well. Overall a great hangout spot! 🧑
