Lush green forest and all the red Colubus you could hope! It was a bit crowded so be prepared to be in a larger group, but it was still worth it. We loved our guide and all he said about life. He was so knowledgeable on medicinal herbs which was cool as a doctor. The mangroves were amazing too and a wonder to behold

If visiting Zanzibar, it is well worth the time spent walking through the forest. The vast array of plants and vegetation is quite remarkable. Also land crabs and huge snails. The guide was very knowledgeable with loads of information. We also saw the Zanzibar Red Colobos monkeys. Colobos refers to the fact that they only have four fingers on the forearm and no thumb. They are quite lazy and don't move much. The forest is quite humid so take some water as you will be sweating.

Great experience. The best way is to get there by yourself and pay the entry in shillings. You will get a tour guide and then you will go to explore. That was my first time ever experience to see monkeys in the nature. Also at the end of the tour, you need to tip the tour guide.

Took a long cab ride out here. You NEED a vehicle in order to view this area as a tourist. You pay for a guide. Our cab driver would communicate with the guide where to go for each section of the tour: "monkeys", mangrove, "forest". We came off a ship so it was packed with busses, taxis and people. After the first stop, where we did see some blue and reds, most of the people sharing our guide departed. The most impressive stop was the "forest" were we walked maybe a half km and were surrounded by red colobus. You are able to get very close to these chilled out primates. Very memorable

So happy to see a nature reserve! Always a positive sign of a community realizing the importance of nature and all its inhabitants. We had a great guide with us , BabuShebi. Loud, proud and a funny guide for sure. Very informative about the local Flora, fauna as well as all the local medicinal and non medicinal uses. Great to walk through the dense forests, and we got to walk through in pouring rain, which was certainly a highlight of mine; and to my surprise , my partners also. We walked quite a bit to see the local ‘poison monkeys’ and after quite a wait, we got to see so many of them. Young, juvenile and old. Definitely recommend the visit! We missed out on the mangroves, but I hear that’s part of the visit as well. Have shared some photos and videos of our walk through.

Nice thing to do when you are in Zanzibar. You don't need a tour operator for this one. Just drive up there (or get dropped off) and pay the entrance fee (24 dollar for 2 persons). You get a pricate guide as well. You do 3 things: - go to see the monkeys, which was adorable!we saw a lot of them - walk through the forest - walk through the mangrove The tour lasted about 1H

Beautiful experience because we went at the right time (08:40) we had a private tour because there were only people there, we saw animals and plants our guide Amur was very informative and patient, the money from the entrance ticket is used for the maintenance of the forest and for protection. The duration of the tour varies, it can be up to two or three hours for those who have a lot of questions and want to know everything.

We walked through the forest with a guide in a small group and got lots of information about the trees and other aspects of nature, like little critters. After the first part of forest, we crossed a street and went to the monkey forest. Be careful of vervet monkeys, they try to steal things from your pockets. The red colobus monkeys are more relaxed and can be observed up close, but please keep a distance of at least 2 meters! The forest feels like another tourist destination where many visitors are quickly moved through without much time to appreciate its beauty. Before the tour, we informed our guide that we want to skip the mangrove tour and therefore go through the forest slowly and peacefully, without any pressure.

There are so many monkeys and such a beautiful mangrove forest 25,000 =/ per person for entry including the guide fee. It depends on your luck if you get a good guide or not Fortunately, we had an amazing guide so we had fun There was an obvious tourist trap after the mangrove forest, it was people were singing and dancing with a tip box or donation box that was uncomfortable for me but in general it was a nice tour

Jozani Forest is definitely worth a visit. Our guide was very diligent in helping us find lots of monkeys to observe. They came very close and we even saw many babies. Wear good shoes for walking through thick brush.

The place is beautiful, it’s a real forest with lots of greenery and narrow pathways among the trees. There are several options of the length of the tour available. We had a short tour which lasted around an hour. There was a group and a guide, who took us around and explained the things. First we walked through the forest, and saw centipedes or milepeds and some of the palm crabs. After that we approached a big tree where the monkeys were resting. They didn’t express any interest to us whatsoever, they were just chilling and living their monkey lives, people were watching, taking photos. After monkey encounter we walked through the mangrove forest, and that was very beautiful and unusual. As for me, I would like the tour to last longer, as sometimes I had a feeling that the guide is rushing us, just to bring us to the finish faster. Other than that - no complaints, the place is beautiful and definitely worth the visit.

Worth visiting but try to be there early to see all the animals. We got there at around 5pm and were able to see the monkeys and mangrove only.

The good: We were taken around for a short loop walk in the forest and saw a few monkeys, another loop was in the mangroves short drive away (beautiful place). The not so good: The whole "tour" lasted about 40 mins and with little information about the forest and animals within. The last drop was when the guide very openly demanded a big tip- not sure what for. Overall I found this disappointing and money making business... only giving a star as I truly hope they do take care of the animals and the forest's wellbeing. Perhaps do the long walk option and your experience might be better 🙏

Most tours that you can book at Jozani Forest via the hotel and travel desks in the city visit two sites. At the one you can walk through the forest and see some monkeys at some locations. In general the forest is very clean and you won't see many other animals. We noticed that there were so many tourists walking around with their guides that any animal would actually run away. Additionally we were only walking very close to the road and not that far into the forest, which was disappointing. Next we drove to the mangrove part of the forest. Nice walk but again so many tourists and hardly any animals. As another minus: the toilets at the 2nd spot were quite something. Only two toilets/holes in the ground for so many tourists.

Oh boy, was I pleasantly surprised. If you decide to visit the Jozani forest, make sure you tip your guide at the end of your tour (they are volunteers and do the tours for free, what you pay for the trip is not reflected in their paycheck). I highly recommend that you visit the forest during the morning hours, there is way less people and you might actually feel as if you had a private tour.

Knowledgable guide! Inclusive and very considerate, despite rainy weather he made sure we would walk to places where we would have the highest probability of seeing the animals! He went above and beyond to ensure we all had enough time for questions and he didn’t hesitate even once to answer any questions regardless how dumb they might’ve been. 10/10 guide!

A very short walk through the forest. Beautiful monkeys. If you're looking for a hike, this isn't it but if you want a little time to connect with nature, here's the spot. It is expected that you use a tour guide from the jozani forest reception. The guide explains different parts of the forest, trees, mangroves, monkeys behaviours (I don't want to tell you too much and spoil the experience!) You pay around £8 dollars (I think that's the conversion) and then expect to pay a tip at the end. You can just turn up to the site, there are a few refreshments, toilets and other necessities. I enjoyed the experience but then again, I love nature.

Section in 3 parts if taking 1 hour tour. First - see red zanzibar monkey (they are very used to tourists). Second - walk through forest Third - 1.2km drive to see mangroves. Price - USD$12 for 1 hour tour . Enthusiastic guide however what you actually see during the tour is not really worth it.

  • 5/5 Mohammad A. 2 years ago on Google
Excellent experience. The guide was amazing. Walking through the forest while it was raining is parallel to none. Watching the black and red monkeys in groups, families is like watching NatGeo but live! The mangrove location was amazing. All in all it's worth every penny.

Jozani forest is well worth a visit, our guide knew all about the flora and fauna and was very nice. The monkeys are probably the stars of the show, clearly used to people so you can get very close. They have a strict no feeding policy, which means they aren't jumping on you or harassing you. Just get to see monkeys being monkeys. You get taken through the small forest, the mature forest and mangrove forest.

In two words: too touristic.... We were lucky and had a group of just 4 tourists. The guide was more like a comedian than a ranger. So just a bit of information about conservation, ecology etc and lots of jokes, funny sounds etc. After the short tour (45 minutes) the guide asked for a hefty tip, which we didn't give him. To be honest, he took it sportingly. You can see the colobus monkey and the blue monkey from very close range as they are habituated. So mixed feelings.....

Nice trip and fun to see all the monkeys up close and learn about the trees and natural medicin. Our guide (included in the price of aprox 11 usd pp) seemed a bit tired but expect to give tips in the end of the tour no matter what :-)

The short guided tour was okay, we saw a lot of monkeys! But the guide felt like he wanted to get the tour over with, he talked and walked really fast through the forest (and its not so much of a real forrest, on your tour you pass by village houses and the restaurant) mmagroves are cool to look at too. Guide expects a tip after the tour. He looked a little disappointed at our 5000 TSH tip.

We walked a bit to see the local 'columbus monkeys' and after a long wait we saw many of them. Young, baby and old. It is very important to protect these endangered animals I definitely recommend a visit! Seeing the mangroves is also part of the visit. aYou can go to another region by vehicle and it is very beautiful. A total of 2 hours of activity that does not take much time

  • 5/5 Ben T. 7 months ago on Google
Guide was knowledgeable and happy to explain things in detail. Saw the two types of monkeys. Highlight would be a baby monkey playing on the ground and running right past our feet!! Sadly didn't see any other animals and it is MAD humid - out of their control really so doesn't effect the review!

My god, what a fantastic place. Just myself and 2 other people with a brilliant tour guide. As a monkey fanatic, naturally I absolutely loved it; getting to see the monkeys in their natural habitat, as well as so up close and personal was such a dream of mine. Monkeys seem to be very relaxed around humans too. The mangrove tree forest afterwards was also so unique, and your guides takes some photographs for you. Just such an unplanned yet magical day - one of my highlights of Zanzibar.

This place seems overrated. You have a short walk through 3 forests. They look nice, but guides walk so fast (eventhough we had a lady with baby and one person with healing broken leg). We had one stop for monkeys but it was on crowded Road, so not comfortable for photos and monkey observation

the Jozani Forest National Park in Zanzibar is an incredible experience that left me in awe of the natural beauty and biodiversity of this unique ecosystem. Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided us with a lot of interesting information about the different species of mangroves that grow in the area, as well as the various animals that call the mangroves home. We saw a variety of crabs, and even some monkeys swinging through the trees above us. The walk itself was quite easy and took us along a boardwalk that wound its way through the dense mangrove forest. The trees were tall and majestic, with their roots stretching down into the water below, creating a labyrinth of tunnels. One of the highlights of the walk was spotting the rare red colobus monkeys that are endemic to the area. Our guide was able to point out several of them to us, and we were able to watch them foraging for food in the trees. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Jozani Forest National Park Mangrove Walk to anyone who loves nature and wants to experience the unique beauty of a mangrove ecosystem. It's an unforgettable experience that will leave you with a newfound appreciation for the incredible biodiversity of our planet.

(Translated by Google) Monkeys are very cool, but watching and photographing them from the road is very risky. you are most likely to be detained by rangers in cars, the car will be arrested and forced to pay a large fine. There were several such cars at the reception and one frightened couple tried to pay off so that they would be released. You cannot stop on the way through the park at all. By the way, the entrance ticket does not include the services of a guide, and without him they will not be allowed (Original) Обезьянки очень прикольные но смотреть и фотографировать их с дороги очень рискованно т.к. вас с большой вероятностью задержат рейнджеры на машинах, машину арестуют и заставят платить большой штраф.
