This was a great experience staying here at the Marriott. My room was clean and cozy. We ate downstairs in the restaurant and the food was really good. My girlfriend is not really a drinker but Felicia made her a perfect drink that she really enjoyed. JD puts lots of Love into preparing his food. 👍And the front staff was very nice and ready to help in any way they can. If I'm in Newport News again, this will be where I will stay. Good job guys!!!!!

If your every in town of Newport News,VA. Do not waste your money on this Marriott. 1st the guest services at the front desk are the worst. No greeeting and i was the only one standing in front of two for 10 min before asking to help me. (I arrive in at 1:30pm) 2nd my room was not clean and the wallpaper pilling off. The bedsheets where dirty and there was something white on the headrest. 3rd on the same day of check in, i get a noticed telling me that the water will be off the next day from 10am to 2pm. And before i almost forget about the $50 a day that you pay up front for incidentals, which is not refunded to your card 14 days later. #wow This hotel would not be on my list to stay. Check out the other hotels in the surrounding area, which are way price friendly. Two 👎👎.

Love the area and location rooms are very comfortable staff needs work not very welcoming to certain people. The Concierge Kerry is what made the staff get an 4 she is awesome and the valets were extremely helpful. The front desk staff were not welcoming too much of anyone but much less to myself and my husband.

Friendly service, clean and spacious room, nice restaurant with delicious food (the edamame are especially good), and the Christmas lights were just going up around the pond and fountain - beautiful. I noticed shopping and food nearby as well, but we won't be here long enough to enjoy it. I did pay extra to have breakfast included in our booking.

The lady that checked us in needs a lot of customer service training and a huge attitude adjustment the rooms were ok a little snug the pool didnt look too good the gym was really nice and i loved the treadmills showers didnt have too much water pressure which was disappointing I wouldn't return to this one but I would say its a try and see for yourself

This is my first time visiting this hotel. I have to say that the customer service was amazing! The young man who completed my check in provided me with a great room with a view of the fountain. I was blessed with the opportunity to relax while watching the sunset. The room was very clean and organized. My only suggestion would be to add slip resistant protection in the tub. I almost slipped getting out. I am aware that there are no current hotels providing slip resistant in their tubs, however, it would be beneficial to prevent slip and falls. Keep up the excellent work otherwise Marriott employees! Note: I forgot to add that there’s no need to bring body wash, shampoo or conditioner because the hotel provides it along with a lavender pillow spray. The body wash is the best!! The smell of the eucalyptus once it mixes with the water will relax the mind.

The hotel itself is nice, staff is nice, over priced for what it is. The worse thing is after spending $300 for a room and thousands for an event that we didn’t even receive all the meal courses, you have to pay $23 for your breakfast. Very upsetting.

Not rating the rooms - but I'd like to point out that if they are similar to the rest of the hotel, they are likely very nice. I visited this Marriott for an event, and I can confidently say that based on the atmosphere, location, and wonderful service, I would recommend this hotel for any event you have -big or small. There is lots of parking, the food was good, and they offer different sized rooms for events/conferences. Plus, the bathrooms are spotless.

This location is great for food and shopping, Customer service was very good, although the cable went out the last day and no one came to fix it even though I called the front desk. Overall though, everyone was courteous and friendly. Rooms were very clean. Free coffee and bottled water in the lobby. I would stay here again.

No rating on the rooms - I only came to this hotel for use of the conference area to attend a Gala event. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The inside was decorated nicely and maintained. The room for the Gala was spacious, had ample seating and was comfortable. Overall, this was a very nice space for a larger gathering. And, I enjoyed myself.

The sign on the check-in counter says 8= 0.... I'd say this hotel is 8 on the best day... its more along the lines of 5-6 The AC was not working properly. The room was hot and muggy and I couldn't get much rest. It's one thing when you have a system fault but it is obvious that the AC is neglected. ( See photos) It was not an extremely hot day and I can only imagine how much worse it would have felt if it were ( I heard the same complaint from other guests while waiting to check out,) Breakfast was great , front desk manager was helpful to the extent of her abilities. The other front desk girl did not know how to make a photocopy of a document I requested ( this was a business trip for me)

08/03/23 Had a meeting here, food was fantastic. Italian theme. Really good. Parking in the garage was convenient. Big place. Great for events. Very happy with the experience. Did not stay so can't speak to the rooms.

Terrible - from check in to check out a disaster - mold in my shower, toilet handle broken, carpet filthy. When asked to add someone to reservation I was told by 2 adult humans at the front desk to " download the Bonvoy app" to make any changes I wanted to make. They could not help me. This is not customer service. Makes no common sense. No coffee available. Fire alarm went off in the morning so we all evacuated. Told it was ok to go back to our room when firetrucks were pulling up. However the alarm and flashing lights was still going off in my room and hallways. How are you suppose to get ready for you day when alarm is going off in your room.

First the good. SOME of the front desk staff are really friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the place is well decorated. Great location near a lot of restaurants. On to the not so good. First, the beds are not comfortable. You can feel the springs and if you're sleeping with someone, you feel every movement. The entire place is freezing; like 60 degrees freezing. We had to turn the heat on in our room to make it livable in the middle of summer. For some reason there's a strong police presence in the area which wouldn't have been a big deal but they would stare everyone down (even in the hotel lobby) like we were all suspects. Finally we had 2 incidents while we were there. First, we ran out of towels so I sent my 13yo daughter down to get more. They told her they were short on towels and then escorted her back to our room like she was a criminal. Second, this is not supposed to be a pet friendly hotel but a dog woke us up barking into a vent at 5:30AM and continued to bark until after 1PM. When we called down about it the first time they couldn't locate the dog. The second time they were "calling up to the room" but it continued. A manager was supposed to call me about this but never did. If you're reading this review - we're still waiting on that call. Overall I don't believe I've stayed at a hotel that cost well over $300 a night and was this disappointing.

Let me say that I am a Bonvoy member and have stayed at many of the Marriotts and the other hotels within the brand. I will say this is the worst Marriott I have stayed in. The front desk staff especially the manager that was there in the late afternoon/ evening was not very accommodating. There were a few issues I was unhappy about including an ice machine on my floor that had mold in the bottom of it. However, the issue that really upset me was the bed bug situation. I woke up early in the morning with the right side of my face itching and noticed my face had red marks that looked like mosquito bites. As I was getting out of the bed, I saw a bug on my sheet and naturally yelled and threw the sheets off. After I calmed down, I searched the sheets to find the bug to see what it was and I found a bed bug. I complained to staff and they stated they were sorry but did mot seem too surprised. I asked for a plastic bag from housekeeping and I placed all of my things in the bag and tied it tight. I had one more night to stay but checked out immediately!!!

4-star? Try 1-star. Save your money. This place has horrendous customer service. Kitchen staff (with the exception of one) will take out their disgruntled moods on you, they’ll show bias and favoritism for certain guests over others. They’ll tell you that you have sit up a certain way in the dining area (yes, I know) and overall the staff as a whole shoe complete distain for the guests they appear to loathe. The rooms are not well maintained and extremely dusty. I had a coughing fit and had to sleep on the far side of the bed due to the clear and evident dust on top of the bed light. I’d give this place a zero if I could. I haven’t encountered such subpar and terrible customer service in a very long time. This place should be $50 a night. I would advise you not to book for anything more. Stay clear of!

Don't stay here. Everything has been maintained from exterior to elevators to rooms. Wanted a quiet night sleep and got a room with damp carpeting that was just clean that was not supposed to be rented. Called the accounting person Karen, no callback from the voicemail I left. Called the Director with no callback after leaving messages. The night manager didn't even call to apologize. Lack of professionalism, elevators that barely function, and a staff that gives out rooms that are still being cleaned. This is not Marriott's standard or quality. The area has been gentrified, however, you don't want to walk around at night. I wouldn't want to walk out during the daytime either.

Great hotel and public areas. Staff is wonderful and very courteous. Had great places to walk and run outdoors. Very very safe area. Rooms just need a little refreshing to earn a 5 star rating.

I love this place, the staff is amazing starting with the door man who is more than helpful, Miss Ameshia at the front desk who was also helpful and made excellent recommendations that assisted with my stay for the weekend. I also bumped into the big boss Miss Gayle who was great! Everyone was very welcoming, helpful and made great recommendations of the surrounding area that is filled with everything that is needed for business or pleasure! The rooms were very clean and affordable. Great location with many attractions within walking distance or a short drive.

It was a very nice experience living in the Marriott for a week and a half... but the circumstances were really not that nice. I think the city could have handled the situation a little better.. it's not the People's fault... so why make the people pay for the actions that were placed upon the renters instead of the tenants... I'm just saying...?

Amazing stay. Mine was very short but the check in team was super nice and even gave me a birthday gift and hand written card! Location is great. Nice view of the pond. Nice breakfast. Decent little gym. Overall great service. Would definitely come back.

My honest opinion with my stay at the Marriott at Newport News City Center was above my expectations. Your hotel has the best staff, from checking in, to answering questions, refreshing the room daily, and I would be so wrong if I did not mention the staff during breakfast. All of this put together, made my visit awesome. I have stayed in several Marriott's in the past, but I have to say, was the best for me. I applaud you and your staff for providing your customers with a well-managed and maintained hotel. Please let your staff know, I thank them for all they did for me during my stay. I will be back! Sincerely, James Bullard

I’ve stayed here twice for business, and both times were very pleasant. Is it the fanciest Marriott? No, but it’s perfect for a work trip. The staff are incredibly friendly, the rooms are well equipped (both rooms I stayed in had a refrigerator which is huge for me- and they have a shared microwave down the hall you can use), and the facilities are well maintained. The gym has several well-functioning treadmills, other cardio equipment, and weights. They have coffee and tea left out, as well as bottled water. The buffet breakfast is perfect for travel - they have a healthy “cold” side and then the traditional hot breakfast spread. The location is prime for walking to other restaurants, and parking is easy. Will certainly stay here again!

Kendrick, the front desk attendant was amazing! All of the staff were very nice and. Kudos to the waitress in the restaurant, she worked so hard and she was really nice. I gave a 3-star rating because the elevators to the parking lot were broken. This presents a safety concern for a women arriving alone when it’s dark. The room was clean and comfortable, and the check-in process was smooth. The manager was very visible and interacting with hotel guests. This property is close to shopping and restaurants too.

The hotel is in a nice location. We were close to where we needed to go. All of the staff were nice and friendly. However, when we checked in the day before July 4th we were asked for a card on file and provided it without knowing my husband used another card to reserve the room. The lady who checked us in charged both cards for our stay and incidentals. We were not prepared to have that much money come out of our accounts at once. Now, we have to wait about 5 business days for our money back. This could have been avoided if there was more attention to detail.

My visit at the Newport News Marriott was okay until I woke up to bags of wet clothing due to a refrigerator running in the room. Our bags were sitting on the floor. We were in town for our teams basketball tournaments and had no other clothes to wear which was a huge inconvenience. I emailed Gail the operations manager for a resolution or even an apology...nothing yet as this was weeks ago & I have sent multiple emails. Rooms need to be upgraded, but that was fine, we dealt with that. We will not return.

Great hotel and meeting venue in the heart of Newport News. Rooms are spacious and well appointed and have a lot of natural light. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Parking is easy and reasonable. Coffee and restaurants are close by and short walks.

Breakfast is insanely expensive and it wasn’t even obvious how much it would cost. No one was around and I sat down confused and grabbed some pieces of honeydew and sausages, and it was $26. There are no water bottles in the hotel room, which I understand is good for the environment. But there was also no trash bags in the trash cans. That makes me feel weird about discarding anything that can’t be cleaned up very easily. A banana peel would already make it a bit gross. Does not seem like a good situation for the cleaning people.

This location threw away my breast milk that was clearly marked as breast milk after they did not mark my late checkout properly in the system. You would think this level of Marriott would at minimum call their guest to let them know they had this in a fridge and they were going to dispose of it. They then called me about the issue after I filed a complaint, told me breast milk had NO value so there is nothing they can do and gave me 10k Marriott points for the inconvenience. I am in shock with how horrible this location has treated me and hope no other working mothers have to experience this. With how much time and effort goes into making breastfeeding for your child this location should do some retraining on procedures. Extremely disappointed.

Stayed with my mother at this location. Wasn't terrible but there were definitely some issues. 1-In the gym there weren't any wipes to wipe off items. 2- when looking for ice i found a disgusting sight behind the microwave (see photo) Guess there was a major event taking place late at night, wouldn't affect me... or so I thought. Around 4 a.m. I heard people from multiple rooms talking as if they were outside. Not sure I would want to stay here again. However to end it on a positive, when I left my thermos in the room, post checkout an employee did retrieve it

Disappointing stay. Unprofessional, unwelcoming and unfriendly staff. Maintenance kept knocking on my door to complete repairs after I arrived and even gave me an attitude when I told them I'd like some privacy please. The staff was so loud in the lobby that it was too distracting to get any work done. Guests waited for coffee at the Starbucks in the lobby while the staff loudly carried on in the break room and took their time getting to attending to the guests. Staff sitting outside smoking near the fire pit, which otherwise would have been nice ambiance. I also did not receive my requested wakeup call for my early flight on the day of my departure. After complaining up the chain, they offered a refund of one night's stay to be received in 5 business days. It's been a month and a half and I have yet to receive. Not recommended, especially if you are traveling for business and appreciate a quiet place to focus and good service.

Room was quite raggedy. A lot of cosmetic things but a little jarring for the Marriott. Would only stay again if I absolutely had to otherwise it would be another location.

Great place for staying and touring around the city. Also this place is great place for any vacation season in the year. There are many large sections for ceremony, meeting, gathering party, etc..

Spacious room and get everything one is looking for room amenities, including a mini fridge. However, one can hear calls from the adjacent connecting room; the light goes through the blinds so bright at 5:30AM, wifi connection with phone is constantly off (missed messages). Also got gym and swimming pool but they are small for such big hotel. There is an on site laundry room which can be handy. Convenient location with many restaurants nearby.
