Parking is not free but if you have National Trust membership, it is cheaper. There is small kiosk to stock walkers with drinks and snacks, and maps, a small cafe past the car park near the Estate with food and drinks and toilet facilities. Apparently this is a kid friendly walk/track to Padley Gorge. It starts like one but once you are past the lake and across the main road, you reach a stream which when the weather is nice attracts picnicers and from this point forward it will be a rocky, up and down woodland area which can be a bit tricky for smaller kids and will require your constant attention. It is good fun, though, exciting and you're in the fresh air. Had a lovely time, kids were nowhere near other food option outlets than what we had brought and they were hungry! So a lot of healthy food was consumed without grumpy noises. And when we got back home they slept like a log.

Lovely national trust visitors centre with toilets and cafe on site. Various walks available around the estate of varying lengths. Well sign posted the length indicators too so you don’t bite off more than you can chew! There are some information signs around the house and it’s history dotted around aswell. Dog friendly.

Out of this world Favourite places: Hathersage, Longshaw Estate Country Park, Froggatts Edge, Castleton and The hike I took up: the out of this world walk way. #limestoneway. I recommend walking a dog to get you up rocks quicker Haha. No but WOW nothing better than sitting up on a rock up there looking down at the valley beyond.

We find it relatively easy from our side of Sheffield. Has a lovely cafe . Recommend vegan pasties and the coffee good Lovely to be walking there in the countryside and the kids love Padley gauge and the paddling . Lots of bushes to hide in for the children too. Great during lockdown. A real breather.

Nicely set out estate with some lovely paths to follow. The coffee shop is excellent with the usual NT high quality. The only downside is that the car park isn't the biggest so just get there early.

Fantastic place. Parking can be difficult. Nice views. Enjoyed paddling in the water and climbing on the rocks with my 9 year old.

  • 5/5 Lexy F. 1 year ago on Google
Lots of lovely walks and a great cafe with decent vegan food. Dogs need to be on leads around the grounds and near wildlife/animals but can be off lead in some surrounding walks

Love it here. Great in any season. We had a snack at the cafe before a walk down to the lake and back. Even the rain couldn't spoil it for the surprising number of Monday morning visitors. All staff very helpful and welcoming as usual.

Great place for either a short or long walk. Looking forward to trying out the refurbished cafe when it opens

We started our walk at the station cafe in Grindleford and made our way to Padley Gorge. The walk is steep and certainly not level but it's so worth the effort. It's about a 2k clime mostly up hill but the scenery is wonderful and when you reach the top of the gorge it levels out and after crossing the wooden bridge you can see the entrance to the Longshaw estate. Just a small note that if you enter the Station Cafe in Grindleford do try either the bacon cobs or the chip cob's but beware you must be hungry, see photo.

Such a beautiful area with a lot going on!! There was a running race, sheepdog trials, trail cyclists and so much more. Had a lovely conversation with another couple where the wife is American and the husband British, and then a nice long walk. Absolutely will go back!

Nice place to walk around, nice views. Unfortunately came back to a car swarmed with flying ants though. Be cautious if your car is silver !!!

The walk around the estate is lovely. The tea room is over priced and cramped at busy times.

I had a wonderful sunny walk from Stanage Pole and down from upper Burbage to Fox House. Lots of walkers especially dog walkers and a few early boulderers were already out too.

Really lovely walk and lots of different routes. A steady family friendly part and a more adventurous route, and just a good day out around the hills and river.

I love getting out here. I love the deer just wandering about munching on the leaves of low hanging trees, the wind whipping across the landscape, the people always smiling enjoying exploring, it's nice easy paths to walk with no bogs etc. Its just wonderful there. Lovely cafe too and plenty of parking (although to avoid paying just park on the road outside if you don't have any mobility issues).

  • 3/5 Michael T. 4 years ago on Google
So it's open with plenty of seating to sit and eat your food the food they sell here is well over priced and doesn't need to be it's not like it's a million miles away from civilisation but £30 for a tea cake and two pasta meals a sausage and 4 drinks this should of been no more than £10 - £15

  • 5/5 sam b. 4 years ago on Google
