Unfortunately the UCD gym has been converted into a commercial facility. Its so full of corporate members it is very difficult to get to the equipment in spite of it being funded by compulsory student contributions. It closed to students from 4pm, loads of classes are corporate only, loads of personal trainers who paid to be trained by gym management now use it to access corporate customers. The plan seems to be to push students to the old worn out gym while making them pay for the new gym. The students union seem to be asleep at the wheel. Its a mess! Complete sell out by UCD President and student union. Huge queues for students who have no choice but to pay, so many private members you can't get a machine and students banned at peak times. Unbelievable! Why do students put up with it?

Avoid the coffee shop inside. The worst coffee I've tried in this area. Sad to have this quality building with this coffee and pastries.

As a student, the gym was great at first when I was in my first year. Spacious enough and you could get around the busy times. Now there is a student restriction so students can’t use the gym from 5:15pm to 8:45pm and I think that’s ridiculous as it’s a student gym, and should be used by students. Now the gym is full with students up until 5 because of the restrictions and it’s impossible to find space. I pay the student centre levy, I should have access to the gym.

Try to avoid this gym. Cancellation includes 30 days notice which is theft (its in the T&Cs, yes. It's legal but it is important to know) and when you need to cancel you have to be physically present. They also make you wait so they make the process as painful as possible so you dont leave. Edit: plus a cancellation fee. Lovely Bad management. Gym itself is fine and monitors are fine. Management is not

Good gym for members, terrible gym for students. The student gym is bad equipped and very (too) small for the number of students that use it. The member gym is a bit larger, but still very small. It's better equipped but it's not accessible for students after 5 p.m until 8 p.m. that is a shame since the gym is suppose to be a University gym. Membership is quite expensive, it is acceptable only because you have access to the swimming pool as well, but you can't choose to do a membership only gym or only swimming pool. Only advantage, is in the campus, so it's very comfortable for people working/studying there.

The performance gym is a mess. It's very small and it can be very very busy. During break times it's okay and there are not many people. The main gym is great but again, it can be very busy. They don't let students in from 16:45 to 20:45.

A private member’s review ....... Feb 2020 From a staffing perspective, the pool lifeguards are, I understand, also charged with responsibility for the Tepidarium. In this regard, and despite the many signs, they only tackle noise and noisy students if specifically asked (and then pushed) to do so, and it is a daily issue. The lifeguards are extremely reluctant to talk to their peer group where the lifeguards are also students - somewhat surprisingly, the boys are slightly better than the girls! A number of the lifeguards occasionally join the students in the jacuzzi “shouting match” adding to the noise or where some are throwing ice, presumably for fun - the latter represents a health and safety issue: if a member got struck in the eye (for example) by someone throwing ice, UCD will get sued, make no mistake. Training and some oversight (of the lifeguards) is badly needed here to deal with both issues and ensure the lifeguards are actually doing their jobs ...... Similarly, come closing time, the lifeguards stroll in but show the same reticence in getting students out of the jacuzzi, particularly if there is a group of them talking, the lifeguards make no attempt to get their attention, none, and they remain as long as they like! There needs to be one rule for everybody here. Again, this should be covered by training and oversight (of the lifeguards). Additionally, while UCD spent a lot of money on an expensive fit out for the Tepidarium, the maintenance needs to be vastly improved. Both the window frame in front of the Sauna and that in front of the Jacuzzi is covered in rust and the beds in the Jacuzzi are also rusting badly on the underside - this can actually be cleaned off! The plastic surround of the jacuzzi is filthy and the hand showers in the Steamroom and shower area are broken for quite a while now .... similarly, the door and door handles going into the male and female private members’ changing area are also covered in rust ........ again, this can be dealt with ....... The maintenance matters are things which only require a limited amount of effort, are low cost and would make a huge difference, especially when the Sports Centre is competing for members with the likes of Westwood Club, for example ......

Very Poor & Unprofessional The Gym: The two gyms on offer (the performance and the poolside gyms) are nice structures, they have a lot of machines, weights and more. However, if you're a student that wants to go to the gym, you have a 1-2 minute window to book when the slots come available (especially for the poolside gym), the performance gym is a bit easier to get into. I am understanding of this due to the fact UCD is providing the gym for free for students. The Pool: I had decided to purchase a swim package for €99 to get better at swimming during my year at UCD. I was using the pool quite regularly, the tepedarium was closed, which annoyed me considering part of my membership was for the tepadarium. I've had a problem with my UCard (student ID that allows access to the gym and pool facilities), which staff had taken back and issued me with a new "temporary card" whilst they got the machines back up and running. I didn't mind at all, however when I went to the pool with friends, the ignorant staff told me they were not going to let me in, I informed them that I had paid for the membership and even had my membership number on me, but they refused to let me in. I really thought this was pathetic considering I was paying for this service. The Tepedarium looks great, but sadly it hasn't been opened yet because of Covid, (which is funny, because all other hotels/gyms with tepedarium facilities have re-opened, it's a handy excuse to keep costs down whilst charging patrons the same price)

We have attended the festival and it has been one of the best family events I’ve attended so far. The campus is very big and the buildings are beautiful and very bright. We had coffee and lunch and very good food/coffee for good price. I love this campus! Also very clean

Great facilities especially for 50mt swimming pool as not very common to find pools like it in Dublin, great relax area with sauna, hydro massage etc, big equipped gym and all sorts of pitches. Few drawbacks as some hours it is very busy and gym courses are not that varied.

Beautiful! Swimming pool with spa zone is absolutely great, love it. And even with a lot of children, place still doesn't feel crowded. Special prices for UCD graduates.

Ucd offers amazing sporting facilities that I recommend all students to take advantage of. I'd like the gyms to be open longer hours however and during the day it can get very busy.

Only use the gym but it's a good one with nice equipment! Only issue is that it gets full very quickly.

They need to think of finding the solution for the heat and humidity of the gym during the summer time. I don’t think ucd fitness sport would want people suffering heatstroke at their gym! At least put a fan in the gym!

Conventional. Pretty dated equipment in the student gym. No aircon. Staff pretty helpless. Pool is good. Beyond that, wouldn’t be recommending it.

Gym is well equipped, many classes available, plenty of support staff around. Tends to get crowded on certain days e.g. Mondays and at certain timings e.g. noon. There are special hours in the evening for public users (students are denied entry then).
