Good place to spend 3 hours of time. It started with a 10 minutes boat ride from Cobh to Spike Island. There will be a free guided tour for 40 minutes in which they will explain why this fort was built and how it was used during British and Irish. After the short introduction we have a option to take a trail outside the prison which will take 30 minutes max and then rest of the time you can spend inside seeing the history of the prison. You can see different types of guns used for defense, different weapons and dresses used by military people. Also you can experience the dark room which was used a punishment cell during British era and modern prison also. Overall it is good place to visit once and learn about the history.

Fantastic day from the friendly staff at the ticket station to the stunning ferry trip and whoever said the trip being 3 hours is too long no way I'd definitely have liked longer so much to see and explore. Our guide was fantastic so informative Aine and the staff in restaurant so friendly and we had a lunch and cake and drinks 4 of us for 50euro and it was gorgeous. I will definitely visit again just for the views alone and so much history amazing thanks to everyone involved from ferry staff to cleaners best day trip over had in Ireland in years.

Fascinating place absolutely packed with history. The boat ride over only takes around 10-15 mins. It was a very smooth journey on the day we went. The island has literally hundreds of years of history all built on top of each other. When you get off the boat the guide gives you some options including to stay with him and walk up to the gates with a guided tour by him on some of the history. 100% do this! It only takes about half an hour and is a great introduction. Some people rushed on in and missed all of it.... there is a one way system around the fort which works well in guiding you where to go next. Make sure to walk around the coastal paths of the island too. It doesn’t take long and the views are incredible out into the bay where Titanic was once moored. There is a small gift shop too upon exciting the fort. A great experience and one of my favourites on our trip to Cobh. Amazing value for the price!

Loved this tour. Amazing views of Cobh on the way out to and back from Spike Island. Our tour guide was great, gave us lots of interesting information about the area and Spike Island itself. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Cobh. You'll be on the Island for just over 3 hours which I felt was a bit too long. But still a well-deserved 4 stars.

Spike Island was an amazing piece of history. We had the best guide call Rob from spike island tours. He was knowledgeable and it was very informative. It was a lovely experience going over on the boat, then being able to walk freely around the island.

Very interesting place with an interesting atmosphere. Best to visit when not too windy and ideally not raining. The tour takes ~3h, and it's enough time to see almost everything. Restaurant is a bit expensive (as you may expect) and food could be much better for the price (better than nothing) Overall, interesting place and would recommend to visit.

Great place to visit. Full of history. I would advise following along with the walking tour. Our guide was Karl, he was very well versed in the history of the island and had a very pleasant demeanor which is great to see from a guide. The walking tour is about an hour which leaves a further two hours to explore on your own as well. The time flies which is always a good sign.

Hugely interesting experience, great to see and hear all about the fort and its change over back and forth from military defence to prison institutions. Definitely try and stay the whole day, 3 hours is just too short altogether.

Really cool place to visit, full of history. Personally found the tour was off the mark in what they were telling us. I’m sure everything we were told was accurate, but it just wasn’t that interesting.

A place I would highly recommend visiting. Full of History, the tour we had allowed for 3hrs on spike island however that time flies and 3 hours just doesn't seem long enough , we stayed for a bit of a guided tour to get some of the history of the place.

Great tour of a very interesting place. Could easily have spent another couple of hours at the various exhibits especially the independence display. Our guide John G was very knowledgeable and friendly and was more than happy to answer any questions or to him. Nice boat journey between Cobh and the island too.

Interesting place! Learned so much about the Irish history. Bit expensive from my perspective but still think there should be more places like this!
