Alaia bay is unethical and disrespectful organization. We had everything booked but their wave was broken last year and they cancelled our booking. Instead they offered ridiculous extension for the voucher. It was obviously not realistic to plan a visit within the timelines offered. We lost 500€. Nobody even responds to the complaints now. They are only interested in keeping the money but not the customers. Would NOT recommend to buy voucher/any other offers with Alaia bay.

Dear Alaïa team, it should be your goal that your clients leave satisfied. We spent so much money for surf and food and wetsuits and season upgrade etc. and we are unfortunately not happy at all with your service. The webpage is not working for reservations. Those at the phone have obviously no idea about surf and the people at the reception treat you arrogantly. I have been surfing for more than 20 years, I have never been treated badly like at Alaïa Bay. The pool (left side) was broken and you only could surf it with surf shoes. Later we realised that some people had apparently the right to surf it without… Better spend your money in a flight to the Ocean and enjoy the real waves.

    - i booked my session over the phone , as a birthday gift to my boyfriend. I told that he has a right leg in the front. Instead receptio made reservation to the incorrect side of the pool. I asked if we can rebook but they said „no, do you have a proof”? Very bad customer experience, - No dogs allowed, this is really unacceptable in 2023 having in mind the concept of this place

We (3 people) arrived from Ticino (3.5 hours by car) and were impressed by the facility: beautiful, functional, fairly well organized. We chose the beginner course even though we have been surfing in the ocean a few times before (quite some time ago). Simple introductory lesson and then 1h in the water with 12 people. Instructors explain well and give you the right inputs to improve. The waves are maybe a little underpowered, but for beginners they are fine. At the end small debriefing and then free water to drink at will. On the site you can download free footage of your runs. You can go up to the restaurant (even without a shirt, without flip-flops just like at the beach), and cosume different menus (again very good but the prices not very popular ...) ... do not try the iced coffee ... undrinkable. All in all a nice and pleasant day!!!

Super disappointed about the way Alaia Bay is handling customer relations… As mentioned in previous posts it seems like their main goal is to make money. I had the same experience as Simon Jerie. Have a 5 session voucher that had expired and even though according to swiss law, vouchers should be valid 5-10 years they claim the sessions are not a voucher but rather a “surfing entry”… so the above mentioned law doesn’t apply. I totally agree with Mari Caterina: “Price / performance catastrophic. Let's not even get started on customer service....Money making, nothing else. Too bad for the actual surf spirit you are supposed to experience there:-(“ It takes so little to make customers happy and it really is a shame that Alaia Bay doesn’t care.

Alaïa bay is a beautiful experience and you should try it at least once! However, this experience will cost you no little money (130-170 per 1h session) which makes it difficult to repeat it often. On the negative side, the booking system on their website is very difficult: many sessions per day, mixed between teaching classes and practice sessions, at 3 different prices ranges depending on the season. Also the experience with the teachers is mixed. Some are superficial and give very little tips. Here, we got lucky with Sergio who was able to give very personalized suggestions (before and after the sessions!) making our two sessions particularly instructive. You can tell he's very passionate and experienced in teaching. The restaurant is also very good, the pizza and the Thai food is really abundant and delicious with a price average of 50-60chf. One of us was disappointed by the poke and by the smoothies being too expensive.

Still the best option to surf in Switzerland and the vibe in the session with the coaches outside has always been very nice. However, I find customer service is deteriorating by the time. I signed up for 3 sessions in one day (peak time so you can roughly calculate how much that cost) and surprisingly I was asked to arrive 1.5 hours before the session. I emailed to ask if it would be ok to arrive later as I anyways had already been many times to the briefing of that wave. No reply until after my sessions were actually over and the briefing only started about 20 minutes before the actually surf. The reply from alaia bay which was anyways too late and after I don’t know how many calls attempts, was that they noticed I had already asked a few times to skip/be late at the briefing and next time I should make sure I arrive on time. No mention of “we’ll let the coach of your session know as you have surfed this wave many times and h e might unlock the free surfing option”. Hopefully by being a returning customer, I get better conditions instead of being told off and not helped. Hope customer service can improve to the levels expected by the price paid for the facilities.

3 days ago I had 2 surf sessions with my girlfriend. Alaia Bay is misleading when uploading pre-session photos for video access: "You can skip this step if you wish; in this case, your videos cannot be linked to your account and it will be more difficult for you to access them after your surf session. " We did not uploaded photos as we were in rush and accessing videos from our session is not DIFFICULT, it is IMPOSSIBLE. Additionally the media panel is misleading: "No videos/photos for this session... please come back later". I acted after 3 days waiting for some access to videos. I wrote to customer service assuming something is wrong and we received such a message from customer service: """ Hello Konrad, Thank you for your mail and your interest in Alaia Bay. Unfortunately if you haven't uploaded the pictures of your face, it is not going to be possible to get access to the videos. I'm sorry for that and you'll be able to do it next time you come to visit ! """" Very disappointing, and can break all the good mood after surfing at this place :( Update: I received a hint I could download videos from Surfline website, which was somehow relieving :)

i did 3 sessions at alaia bay- i’d consider myself an intermediate level surfer - the waves are left or right breaking, the first session I did a class- the teacher was awesome, he gave me small changes in my stance or positioning which left me feeling confident and improving. the second class I did the teacher was really not engaged- he sort of sat on his board and would just make off handed remarks and seemed annoyed to be there at all. For the cost per hour of 120-170CHF i’d expect the best coaches who give you constant feedback and people who want to be there. in the one hour session you catch anywhere from 18-20 waves so in theory you could improve much more rapidly here than learning in the ocean where you might catch this many ways in a week if you’re lucky. i will return but will likely either go during off times or be specific about which coaches i have. they also recently started to charge 5€ a day for parking at the nearby lot so be prepared to pay and likely in cash.

We bought vouchers with a value of 600 CHF. Unfortunately they expired and Alia Bay was not willing to extend them further (only a couple of month till November, thanks!). After we finally managed to book our sessions they were canceled because they had some technical issues. We are a family with two small children in Basel. It is really difficult to find the time and plan this activity. Now they cashed in 600 CHF without offering any service. From my point of that is unethical and should be illegal.

Great place and amazing experience. The waves can be from small to great powerful waves. Even in "advanced" modus there are small waves (which might be hard to surf with small performance boards if you are not a pro in "pumping"). It's quite weird how the waves comes from "nothing". It takes a while until you understand how to positionate, take off and pump up properly. That can be frustrating if you reserve just one session. If you are fit and your budget allows, reserve 2 sections in one day. Negative points: - There's no professional photographs from Alaia Bay taking photos or video from the waves. They could do one extra money and maybe even allow them to lower the prices. They should really think about that. - The price ist quite expensive. Anyway if you can pay for that, it is surely worthy.

I was on Waikiki left wave which was lots of fun…although it rained. The instructors only checked for security in the water. I expected some useful hints. Very astonished to hear that dogs are not allowed “anywhere”, not even in the cafe. Totally surprised about this as it is common in Swiss restaurants to always allow dogs in outside areas(the cafe is and outside terrace). No mention anywhere on the webpage about this. My wife could therefore not watch and enjoy. Very disappointing!!

I had an exceptional time at Alaïa Bay. Our preparatory meeting was led by Hugo, a seasoned surf guide from the surf school. He provided straightforward and invaluable instructions, peppered with a touch of humor – it ensured we got off on the right foot! The surf session wasn’t packed, allowing each of us ample opportunities to catch waves. Plus, there was plenty of time to rest between sets when needed. David, our session guide, was a tremendous help. He offered pointers on the ideal take-off spots, when to commence paddling, and was always there with words of encouragement. The entire experience was infused with professionalism, smiles, and an abundance of positive energy. I wholeheartedly recommend the Alaïa Bay Surf School to anyone keen on learning to surf, honing their skills, or simply seeking a thrilling time in the water. I'll definitely return, and my gratitude goes out to everyone who contributed to making it a memorable experience!

Alaia Bay is truly a fantastic place to make progress in surfing. The facility is top-notch, and the instructors are all very friendly and highly skilled. Especially Sergio, with whom I had two hours of lessons, was extremely motivated to share his knowledge and made a great effort to focus on each individual, despite the large group. A big thank you once again to all the staff who made my weekend enjoyable and, more importantly, a successful learning experience. I had a blast and look forward to returning. Just the prices... they could really be a bit lower, especially for those of us who are not from Switzerland and have a different salary. ;)

The place is well organized and build. You book and manage everything online. Check in quick and easy, Staff super friendly . About surf: the waves are perfect. Team tell you a lot of tips and instructions and they check you while you surf . In a sessions if you are a good paddler (just to go back to initial point) in one hour you’ll have enough waves.Any level of waves from zero to big!Restaurant and bar are on the 1 floor with view . About price . Food: you are in Swiss, price are higher then Europe. About price for surf session: if you consider the product price are balanced. It cost less then take a flight+car+hotel and pray for waves (I’ve been 7 times to Hawaii…)Next to the place there is also a very nice park with lake , perfect for kids .

We were four intermediate surfers and had an amazing experience at Alaia Bay. All the surf coaches are so nice, especially Sergio that had amazing advice to us. Pro-tip : Take one session under your real level since the wave is quite technical, especially the takeoff. You will get more waves and progress faster.

Alaia Bay rocks and if you are lucky to be coached by Simo (@Simo_tmt) your skills will improve exponentially as compared to a session in the ocean. Thanks so much for helping me to overcome my aversion re “lefts” and finally surf them! I still prefer rights, but with your support I will eventually barrel a left once in a while. Look forward to see U soon again. Cheers Sophie

Alaïa Bay is he perfect spot for getting a “close to” surfing experience in Switzerland! Even watching surfing sessions is a whole experience itself (and for free). Also, the restaurant has plenty of great food options and drinks (really loved the chocolate cake). There are sufficient parking spots close by. The only thing which I think is not reasonable is their cancellation policy, which literally does not exist and you would lose your session credit and money if you cannot participate. I would have appreciate a 48h or 72h canellation option.

Absolutely an amazing experience. My 2 daughters and I enjoy the perfect waves and with the help of the coaches it was pretty easy for all of us to stand up and ride the waves. Snowy mountains as a backdrop while having fun in the water - absolutely mind blowing. The staff and the coaches were super nice and we felt very well taken care of throughout the whole experience. We can't wait to go back!
