This place was 🔥🔥🔥 the atmosphere was fantastic and our waitress was on point. She said she is 41 and never eaten an egg but had all the great recommendations for us and they did not disappoint. Four of us came in and we had a blast. Will be a staple moving forward.

First of all, I just love everything German village. This is such a cute restaurant, so well decorated, amazing menu, service and happy hour deals! I had calamari and mussels! I mentioned to my server about a Brazilian drink and even tho that wasn’t on the menu, they went ahead and prepared that for me! 5 stars service! Will be back for sure! Ps- the restaurant has 2 separate rooms, one of them is a sushi restaurant and you are able to order from both menus!

I love the variety and the range of the menu here. Steak, sandwiches, seafood, pizza, pasta, sushi-- if you can't decide what you want to eat, this place has you covered! The service is friendly, the interior is lovely, cocktails are tasty, and they have great lunch specials + a Monday night oyster special.

Oh goodness!!! Wish I took a picture of the cocktail, the food is so good (shirt rib pizza, To Wong Foo roll and Nigiri)! Even ordered takeout burger, chicken sandwich and the COD sandwich. Not sure what is scratch bc it all taste so fresh. The bartenders have all the knowledge and so very friendly. The hostess was very sweet and let us know they were full and got us in asap. I plan on going back over and over. Thank you team, your customer service was beautiful all around :)

Delicious food, and the prices weren’t bad either. I was very satisfied with what I got, and would definitely go back. The prices are a little on the higher side, and the atmosphere was a bit loud for me which might’ve just been because of the day I happened to be there, but the food was worth it.

Outstanding pizza. Perfectly cooked crispy thin crust. Delicious sauce. Tasty toppings. Pepperoni pizza had tons of flavor and the Margarita pizza was also excellent!

This small very comfortable neighborhood bar restaurant has some surprisingly good food. The staff is great I'm usually there for up until the end of happy hour and I've had the pizza I've had the Burger I've had the Ruben and most recently the Turkey club. All amazing and each one of the sandwiches was more than a meal. Check it out

The food was excellent. The drinks were well balanced, with a variety of options with different types of liquor, which is something I look for in a cocktail menu. I haven't tried their wine yet, but at almost every other table, someone had ordered wine, so it is clearly popular. This has been added to the short list of favorite Ohio restaurants. Everyone loved what they ordered. Their calamari and pear crostini were truly superb. My mother in law stated the shrimp pasta was as good as she gets in the Gulf Coast, which is a high compliment for her. Their hot honey pizza was quite good. I can't wait to visit again. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a wide menu upon which anyone can find something to love, friendly service, a quality alcohol menu, and doesn't mind spending $18-$30 per entree. At that price point, I need the quality to make it worth it and South Village Grille delivered on all fronts.

We love South Village Grille 😍 we come for the delicious food and cocktails, the personable staff, the chill atmosphere, and we've been coming here since before we lived just a few blocks away. 😉 We've never had a less than excellent experience here. Everything is delish. Tonight, we stopped by on the way back from the airport, where I picked Stefan up from coming home from 2 weeks in Africa (Senegal). He had sushi from Jonys Sushi and some saki recommended by the server - it was both adorable and delish! I had the pecan-crusted salmon with haricot vert (French green beans) and butternut squash puree with The Sage Man cocktail; the entree and cocktail were amazing. Just fabulous, as always. Call ahead or make a reservation if it's the weekend, or be prepared to wait, but definitely go to South Village Grille and Jonys Sushi, you'll be glad you did, they're well worth your time! Unless I get there before you, cuz I'll be hanging out for dessert, too. BTW, did we talk beignets? They take a while, because they're made when you order them, and oh, man, they are so perfect. Stefan just got back from Senegal, the birthplace of beignets (you learn something new every day!) and he said these compare well to the originals he had there. Get you some! You'll be super happy you did.

Went there for a late Sunday dinner and was highly impressed. I had the Virginia west roll and it was, easily, the best sushi I’ve ever eaten in this city. The bartender was super nice. Not to invasive. Just a great service! Will def recommend!

Parking is limited to street, which can be a headache depending on when you go. But Friendly service. Jerry was nice and knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered the Ohio pepperoni and harvest salad. Both were delicious. I'm not a fan of mozzarella but the chunks on the salad were really good. And the dressing compliments the sweetness perfectly. I took pictures halfway through eating 😬. Friend ordered grilled chicken sandwich and simple salad. He really enjoyed it. Had tea to drink. Everything tasted fresh and I really have no complaints.  I'd easily return and would recommend it.

The food here is amazing. It is very nicely done and full of complex and interesting flavors. We tried the Chicken & Grits, House Burger and the special of the day (Veggie Omelet) and all of them were wonderful. The bacon on the burger is huge. Service was rather slow. Fortunately we were not in a hurry.

The meatloaf lunch special is delicious. It's tender and flavorful. This is a restaurant that provides simple but skillful dishes. I like this restaurant over the other local restaurant Lindey’s 😉

We have been here several times in person prior to the pandemic shutdown but we will not be returning. I’m not tone deaf to what has been happening for nearly two months, but if you’re going to continue to operate and take people’s money, figure out how to serve decent food. The encantado fish sandwich was fantastic the first time we ordered it for carry out. The 2nd and 3rd times it was terrible for both of us. Not seasoned, slimes and there was more sauce than fish. I even spoke to the manager prior to placing our 3rd and final order.

We came here based on good reviews and a 4.6 Google rating, but had a pretty bad experience. Let's go through the menu. Had some decent cocktails and there were some good beers on draft. The oysters were served room temperature. That was gross and we did not eat them all. The fried green tomatoes were too thick and too firm, and the breading was too thin and too bland, and the ranch and cheese dips were not enough to turn them into a satisfying appetizer. The deviled eggs were fine, but they candied 100% of the spice out of those jalapenos. My wife liked the simple salad but I thought it was overdressed and didn't eat all of it. The shrimp scampi looked soupy and I'm told it was somehow too lemony. I'm told the fried chicken sandwich was pretty good, but it came with bottom of the barrel fries. The margherita pizza was not very good. We left unsatisfied.

The food was amazing, and the atmosphere was pleasant, very quiet, especially after the noisy group beside us left. I was disappointed in one gentleman, Alex. We asked about chef/summer menu specials, and his answer was a quick no! He was wrong. Our vibrant and very pleasant waitress, Jennifer, cleared that up. They have chef specials aside for the everyday menu items! My sister had a pistachio pasta with grilled chicken, not on the regular menu. The soup special was delicious, and the steak was made perfectly! The sushi is okay. The drinks are always amazing; I can't remember the name. However, the bartender is an amazing mixologist.

Great happy hour even on a Sunday. The service was very fast and friendly. We had the calamari, green hummus and Brussels sprouts. The calamari was just a tad soggy but flavors were there. Definitely coming back to try more of their main dishes.

The food is fantastic, but I'm not sure if we went when they were understaffed or what. While I thoroughly enjoyed my chicken sandwich and my husband his sushi, we did SO MUCH WAITING. We waited for 10+ minutes to be seated in a small room and then another 15 before we even saw our waitress. Mind you it wasn't busy, only 4 tables at the time. Lunch took 30 minutes to be served and we must've waited another 30 after finishing to get our check. I felt like we didn't even have a waitress and if I'd had more cash I would've slapped a $50 and left. We would've loved to eat the beignets but I felt like we wouldn't get them for another hour. Go if you have the time to kill!

The decor is wonderful in a great spot on the street. We were there for Brunch only but enjoyed our food. We both had a burger and it was very tasty. Our waitress Kristen was friendly and helpful. I'd like to go back to try the dinner menu before I rate it higher, but i'm sure it's just as delicious.

The food is amazing! Everything is so good. A must try is the salmon, green goddess hummus, Cobb salad, Philly special, tomahawk pork chop. So many yummy things to choose from! Not to mention, Wade the bartender is incredibly nice and makes the best drinks in Ohio!

We loved everything about this place! Tim made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant with a full expert over view of the menu and great drink recommendations. The burger was one of the best ones I’ve ever had in Columbus. With an appetizer and great ambiance to match as well as a menu that had a little bit of everything but wasn’t overwhelming we’ll definitely be back and making south village grill a new go to!

My wife can be very picky, so when it came time to find a restaurant for Valentine's dinner, I had my work cut out for me. I came across South Village Grill, and it looked very promising. Saying that it did not disappoint would be an understatement. Starting with the beautiful ambience, a very well-appointed restaurant and an extremely friendly staff. Every time someone walked by our table, they stopped to make sure we were doing OK and ask about our experience. We started with the potstickers, which were absolutely delicious; crispy, juicy, and fully stuffed. For the main course, my wife had the carbonara, which was delicious. I had the curried cauliflower that may have been one of the best dishes I have ever had in my life. We finished the night with a gooey butter cake based on a recommendation made by our server, and it was absolutely divine. 10/ 10, we will absolutely be back to South Village Grill

Very cute American restaurant in the German Village. Reservations definitely recommended for weekend nights. My partner and I were able to sit at the bar and our bartender recommended some lovely red wines. You can also order sushi if you'd like but we came for their American menu this time. We had the Carbonara and Chicken Madeira, both were fantastic. The carbonara was my favorite and had an egg yolk on top to mix in. I will be thinking about that Carbonara until next time!

  • 5/5 Chase H. 9 months ago on Google
Personable, friendly staff. Our party of 4 ordered 2 entrees and a pizza to split - all were tasty. The staff were kind and helpful to split the carbonara pasta entree into two bowls and the house burger entree into two half burgers, each served with a generous portion of fries (without us asking!). The wine selection was also good - we enjoyed our French red blend.

Went in last Friday, they were fairly busy and I didn’t make a reservation. We did have a little wait but we were able to be sat! Service was great from my server ( so sorry I couldn’t remember her name) and the food was delicious best carbonara I’ve ever had. But as I look around to just notice the room, there was a lot of awkward behavior from who I could safely assume was the owner. Don’t know what was going on with him but he didn’t look well, something was just off and I could see it every time him and my server walked passed one another. Would love to come back just not quite sure when.

Ive only come to this restaurant three times & ive seen familiar faces, so my service was equally amazing like my prior visits! I came to celebrate my birthday, unfortunately my sensitive skin had a mild reaction to the raw cinnamon in one of the alcoholic drinks, but the lovely staff went above and beyond to check in on me to make sure im okay/offer me an alternative drink! Everyone was very friendly, im glad the staff has a wide variety of personalities! all of them made my birthday & were wonderful to speak to!! thank you food service workers. Y’all deserve the world!!!

This place has a pretty cozy atmosphere with nice ambiance and an extensive bar. I think that's what attracts many people, as it stands out amongst the other restaurants in the area. Service is good and the bartenders are skilled and friendly, but the food is just okay from my experience. There really isn't much flavor to it, and they don't do much to elevate their dishes above the basics. I will admit, I've never tried their pizzas, so those could be their saving grace. Nonetheless you can enjoy a drink and a very pleasant dining experience at South Village Grille, as long as you're not expecting to be blown away.

Surprisingly bad experience. The service was slow and infrequent when we needed to order, we waited maybe 30 minutes before getting everything in and then they were completely overbearing once we received our entrees and wouldn’t let up. The food and cocktail I had were also bad and led to me being ill that night. Manager offered us free dessert which we were then charged for so we returned it.

My first experience with SVG was an Ohio pepperoni pizza and an order of wings through uber eats. I was so impressed with both the items. No one is making pizza like this. The crust is awesome! Crisp and chewy. The topping were appropriatly portioned so the pizza wasnt soggy at all even as it cooled. The wings were also delicious. There is something comforting about a place that knows their wing sauce is so good that they dont need other options. It was so nice to get a good meal delivered. I really appreciated their thoughtfulness in the preparation of everything.

I AM RETRACTING THE BELOW REVIEW. My wife and I did in fact go back and have not regretted it. We must have gone on an off day before. Since being back it is now our go-to spot for a date night. The irony right? The vibe is great including their music chouce, drinks are great and the food is amazing! Yes, you may spend a little more than other places but it is well worth it. casual dining spot. The service was nice but I felt the food was a little overpriced. My wife had the kale and beet salad (no meat) and it was over $10. I had the cuban sandwich, which was tasty. We also had a bowl of mushroom soup, which was very bland. Tasted like water to be honest. Beer was $6 and I didn't even look at the wine prices. Wont be going back. Nothing against the restaurant because the food was overall, pretty good. Just not my type of restaurant.

My fiancé and I traveled to Ohio for a little date night celebration for my birthday. We came across this wonderful place by word of mouth and had to get there! Upon arriving we were asked for our reservation (we did not have one) they were completely booked, instead of turning us down they made us a spot on the bar! Service was great, food was amazing but all around the the staff made our experience perfect. We will definitely be back! I posted a picture of my dinner and my hometown went crazy for the details of where this place was. So we will and maybe others will be back! For sure

My Mom, friends and I found ourselves looking for a tasty new place to eat while in Columbus for the day yesterday. We stumbled across the South Village Grille on a Google search. What a wonderful place! The food was amazing!! The Meatball appetizer melted in my mouth!! My Mom and friends all had the hamburger. And raved about it!! I had the Salmon with forbidden rice and crispy kale. Holy moly!! So freakin good!! I need more of this in my life. Oh and the Chef came out and spoke with us. So handsome and friendly. Too bad I am a Cincinnatian. 😉

Went for the half off wine bottles on Wine Wednesday and was not disappointed. The mussel appetizer was delicious along with the sauce. The scallops and honey, Pepperoni Pizza were good picks as well. To cap off a first time experience, our server brought us free beignets. They were absolutely amazing and would go back just for those.

Very disappointed in this restaurant. I am trying to support our local businesses during this awful time. I ordered a chicken sandwich. I couldn’t wait to try it. When it arrived it was burnt. I tried to eat around the burnt pieces but it was so over cooked. How do you burn fried chicken? And how did the chief not notice? I’ve always wanted to try this place, finally I have, and I am very very disappointed.
