I attended counseling here for many years. Now I am a (recent) adult and aged out of the system. I have been struggling to find a new psychiatrist and am almost out of the medication that THE PEOPLE HERE PERSCRIBED ME. (lithium) I am doing fine right now and excelling at college but I am a case where the second I run out of meds I am physically unsafe to myself and others. I called the nurses line for advice on what to do at this point and where I could get a refill because I am 19 years old and I do not understand well how the system works. I tried to be as cordial as possible despite my looming panic. She was VERY rude and short with me and did not help at all, and coldly said to just go to the ER. One I cannot afford that and two that is clearly not what I need. I simply need a medication refill, that admittedly I am stressed about . I am not suicidal AT ALL. I asked if she had any suggestions for what to do now (again I have very little idea of how to navigate the system) and she gruffly said no and hung up. I am grateful that I am physically safe right now because I can’t imagine the outcome if she treated an actively suicidal patient in that manner. Disgusting. I really hope that all others who had a negative time here are doing okay on their mental health journeys and are safe.

My daughter has been struggling with mental health issues for 6 years. We took her in after her first attempt at suicide. The staff was wonderful with her and with our family. They had a really nice comfortable facility for a suicide prevention unit. And they worked to make sure she wasn't bored as she had to wait 3 days to begin her inpatient treatment with YSCU They gave us more useful tools in our week there than we have gotten in 6 years. Even her therapist was impressed at how much the YSCU had my daughter and our family work on. The reason I have them 4 star is we could really use some follow up. My daughter isn't really any emotionally healthier, we just have some better tools. We could use more resources to help her.

Dr. Nayeem has NO business being a doctor. Her attitude and respect for her patients are beyond rude and unprofessional. She showed absolutely NO care or regard for my suicidal child and I can't imagine what others have been through. You can't even call them with simple questions without being told to go to the ER. We are done with this place.

The behavioral health pavilion is currently in the process of trying to discharge my teenager, with a suicide note in their hands in their handwriting that states they intend to kill themselves, with a date and a plan that includes how, that includes several statements that say verbatim that they will lie to everyone to convince them they are fine until they are left alone long enough to carry it out, based on this child’s verbal statement that they do not have suicidal intent. This child also told a clinician as documented in their MyChart that the second they are discharged they plan to run away, to a home where they have already accessed an item they used to self-harm. My husband asked the NP if this was her child and she had this evidence if she would be comfortable having this child discharged into her care and she refused to answer the question. I am disgusted at the level of negligence being displayed here. My child has had several stays in the YCSU and every time I have tried to advocate that they needed a higher level of care. We have never been taken seriously, and I fully believe that if we had, my child would no longer be suicidal at this point. And I absolutely do not believe that this hospital cares about children’s mental health and it is unacceptable that there are no other options in Columbus for minors to get emergency psychiatric care.

Below is my original post. However, I do believe that my experience with the professionals there warrants an update. Despite any issues one may encounter with a schedular or other indirect person, the professionals there that assessed and worked with my grandson in person were awesome. They were professional, expert in their areas, trusted and liked by my grandson (who is a trauma patient). It makes what I had experienced in my attempts to schedule appointments worth it. I cannot speak for everyone's experience, however, ours, once we were in, was great. For those persons and the work they did with my grandson, I have added two more stars. ---------- I did not think that I would ever give a negative rating for this hospital. However, after the intentional attempts of the scheduler in the speech department to keep my grandson from making another appointment, rudeness, and I do believe I heard an inappropriate remark whispered by her , I think that it is a good idea to do so. She clearly represents the whole of those who directly work with her (but not the whole hospital) as they behaved similarly. First, the person that would be in charge of his behavioral concerns was yawning the entire time she interviewed and cut off the speech and occupational therapists who had to reschedule with us. I am taking him elsewhere and as for us, all things do work together for our good. I am not at all disappointed beyond that with their behavior. I am glad that I had the opportunity through no fault of our own to see how dark this could be before it could happen. I would never choose this kind of service and will not do it due to their name alone. I know that wherever I take my grandson for care in this regard, the entire experience will be far better. To them, "thank you so much."

Some of the staff is obviously very young and inexperienced, quite unprofessional (girls that room patients upon intake: Please stop calling teenagers “kiddo”! No 15 year old with anger and mood issues wants to be called that ). But the professional staff that evaluates the patients in depth is great. Unfortunately unless your child is homicidal or actively harming themself you will be sent home. After two visits where we waited 8 hours for help we decided never to go back unless we felt a tragedy was imminent. This Behavioral Health pavilion is huge and beautiful. Very sad that they dont possess the staff and beds to actually meet the needs of the community.

The level of care we have received the past 2 years from them doesn’t even deserve 1 star. They are heartless, rude and have done absolutely nothing to help our family. A complete waste of time.

We left after waiting three hours to talk to a doctor. We never did see a doctor. Just an awful experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

This place is patheic. I came here on a Monday at 4pm there was 6 families ahead of me. Two other familes came in after me. They had the nerve to take all 6 families back including the other two. Needless to say these people never saw my child. I had to end up following up with the peditrian next day. These folks let us out at 430 AM..... Meanwhile, I missed 2 days of work. What a waste of time. Children's you need to do a better job in helping our kids. If I could take my child elsewhere I dam sure would but because you guys have placed a monoply on our kids we can't. We are subjected to your poor service. Absolutely insane.

We went into our visit with low expectations because of the hospital's reputation among first responders. BUT, we were extremely impressed with the care our daughter received. The wait for a room is long - but that is due to the depth of attention and care being given to the patients who are in those rooms before they are discharged. During her stay, the clinicians were able to get our daughter to talk about things that even her therapist and closest friends did not know. And they were able to provide her with the words and tools she needed to understand and discuss her illness moving forward. We have referrals to a number of outpatient programs that we intend to pursue and we are so grateful for the support we have had from all of the staff. You guys are doing the work that matters!

Very disappointing. My 15 year needs help and they discharged the same day she arrived, even after I explained our concerns, being pink slipped and my daughter herself saying that she needed to go to the hospital. The entire process was pointless and a waste of time and energy. Here I thought they were one of the best…

they don’t really care and discharge you after they talk to you for a short amount of time after you’ve been waiting for 3 hours :/ been in inpatient here multiple times and the way it’s ran is not the best :/ definitely don’t recommend trying to get your kids help here .

Not a very good experience. The nurse practitioner herself didn’t seem very caring.

Son has been taken there 4 times by the police. Each time they say he's suicidal, each time the hospital does nothing to help him. If your child is in crisis, I hope you have another option.

Save your time and go elsewhere. They do not care about the children at all. They are there to schedule pointless appointments and collect money - period.

I first came here in february it was alright, the staff were a little rude and the doctor was also rude. i left after two weeks. then my grandma and sisters thought i needed to go back recently, so when we get there the nurse who took my vitals was really rude the doctor was too. then we sat in a room for a few hours and talked then they said i dont need inpatient care, when i just told them i tried to kill myself the other day. like miss girl what if i were to go home and try again? THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!! DO NOT GO HERE!!

My daughter has been struggling with her mental health really the last 7 years, but outwardly 4 years, PTSD, depression, anxiety, SI. We have been knitted closely with Nationwide and the services they provide. She has been through 2 Psychiatrist who were not a good fit. If you feel that from the beginning, say so. They work for you. She has been with php, IOP, therapist and Eating disorder clinic. She has struggled so much since November of 2020 until now April 2021. Been in the hospital 4 times during that period of time. Some of those times she was rushed out. She wanted to die thinking things will never get better. PTSD stinks!! This last stay she was there for almost 5 weeks. Dr. Anna Kurlak was determined to find some answers for my daughter and went above and beyond with patience and perseverance to help my daughter get to a better place. She went in and for 6 days she refused food, meds and even water. 5 weeks later found the right meds to help her and she is hopeful for the future. It has all been a process and I’m sure there are still things to strive for in the future. But Dr. Kurlak and the staff including nurses, constants, therapist helped save my daughter and I will forever be great full.

The wait was excruciatingly long. I waited 6 hours for a room. I was locked in a consult room for 5 hours. I got my room at 1AM. The therapist i had was not nice, she would side with my abusive dad and never let me talk. My MHS’S were the sweetest people i’ve ever met! Sydney and Makenna were so sweet! Sydney would go on walks with me and we would talk about books, she even offered to bring me a book :,) Makenna was so sympathetic, after every therapy session she would go and make sure i was okay and go on walks and overall be there for me to vent. I will admit, being sent here didn’t help me whatsoever. All i learned was CBT (cognitive behavior therapy; finding cause of stress and solving it) and we didn’t talk about anything i was sent for. As soon as i got home i relapsed. My mental health team was so supportive (minus that one therapist) I loved all my MHS’S they were so freaking sweet! I still think about them to this day. If your seeing this Sydney or Makenna, thank you so much for being there for me during the hardest days of my life. But if i didn’t have those MHS’S i would rate 1/5. Makes you wait for hours before actually hospitalizing you. They legit do not care. If you’re sent to YCSU, you will be bored out of your mind. the only time i got human interaction was therapy. Other than that, i wanst allowed to leave my room. (btw i was in YCSU for 4 days, they only took me in because i said if they sent me home i would kms. I went back today and they sent me home and i still have the urge to SH and hurt myself. I was there for 7 hours this time. My physiatrist was talking down on me and belittling me for not using my safety plan. i didn’t see Sydney or Makenna if you were wondering :(

Where to begin? I was taken here after I ran away and thought about killing myself. I waited for about 3 hours, they told me I was going to be admitted, okay that's fine. The nurse grabbed my WRIST and forced me to show it to her. I wasn't allowed to see anyone except for my mother and grandparents. They forced me to see my grandmother even though I did not want to. I might add I got into my room at 1:30AM. The mattress is a gym mat, thin sheets, one pillow which is so uncomfortable. You cannot have anything in here, they don't even give you toilet paper. Only thing I liked was the fact the lights could change color and dim. Long story short PLEASE do not bring your child here in case of a psychiatric emergency. Take them somewhere else.
