Iā€™m really not a person that would complain, but things wonā€™t get fixed unless someone says something. I go to this gym 4-6 times a week and the gym is only getting worse. I donā€™t recall ever seeing an employee clean or vacuum. Weights are always laying around and unorganized. Thereā€™s trash everywhere and I added a picture of a sweater that has been hanging on a rack for over a week. So employees definitely donā€™t clean. Not the best photos but I tried to add some small examples. In the era of Covid and germ freaks I feel like a business like a gym should be extra clean now of days.

This isn't my normal Esporta but it's the one close to work. I tried it twice, going at 5am when they open. I won't be going back...so dirty and un clean. Mud, trash, dirt, locker room has not been cleaned in days. When I talked to the guy at the counter about how often they clean the sauna he said "sporadically".....what a response. The sauce floor was coated in dried sweat, can't describe how the benches looked. If you go, don't touch anything

Yeah, this gym is absolutely disgusting. I go here 5 times a week and the only reason I still go is that the fee to back out is heavy. Same with all the other fees (freeze, annual). The basketball court, which I pay a lot more than a regular membership to use, is broken and ā€œgetting repairedā€ half of the year for the last two years. For being such a large gym only having two flat benches is unacceptable. No one is ever cleaning anything, in fact I saw a vacuum being used this week for the first time since Iā€™ve been a member. Please, save yourself some money and go somewhere else, you wonā€™t regret it.

If you are thinking about a membership, but are on the fence, do yourself a favor and walk away. This place is not worth the price. Most of the equipment is broken with signs that say ā€œservice scheduledā€. Those signs have been there for monthsā€¦management does not fix anything. Half of the machines are broken without signs so that when giving tours, it doesnā€™t look as bad as it actually is. They oversell memberships so that the gym is always full and you have to wait to use machines; also, they shut off spaces for ā€œpersonal trainingā€ even when they have no classes or personal training session scheduled. Soā€¦.packed gym and empty rooms with free weights and benches that you are not allowed to use. The water fountain (there is only one) is broken so you do not have access to drinking water. They never restock toilet paper, so be sure to bring your own. The ceiling leaks and there are cobwebs and serious spiders in the stairwell so be on the lookout. If I could get out of my membership without paying a hefty fee, I would. The Powell location is the nicest one (not nearly as dirty and broken down) but they are closing it down. So reallyā€¦donā€™t commit. You will regret it.

This is easily the dirtiest gym I have ever seen in my life and I'm in the military and I've seen some trashy gyms. I literally walked into the men's locker room 3 days in a row and the ENTIRE place smelled like body odor. I quit going into the bathroom as a result altogether. The people that work there have zero customer service and are rude when u ask questions. I literally walk to any piece of equipment no matter what time of day or night and see plates scattered around the floor. I know this can't be helped but the other gym goers have no respect for personal space. They don't understand simple gym etiquette. I have had people walk over to my bench and try to take plates off as I'm working out. And the equipment is all trash. Everything looks like it has been there for 10+ years and never been replaced. I moved here from out west and the ones out there r light years better in all ways then the LA Fitnesses here in central OH. I would absolutely never recommend this place to anyone.

I am over this gym. I have been going to this gym for almost 3 years, and the gym has just been getting progressively worse. The gym is never clean. The place is dusty, paper towels are always gone, and the bathroom is disgusting. The members just leave weights everywhere, and do not pick up after themselves after using dumbbells, plates, and bars ect. Then I have to go look for them. Other members are rude, and do not understand what personal space means. I had someone stand in front of the bench I was on, and gave me maybe a foot of room just so they could check themselves out in the mirror. People will sit on the bench press doing other exercises that have nothing to do with using the bench bar, people will sit on their phones taking 20 minutes just to do 3 sets. Equipment is constantly broken, and takes forever to fix. This place is a joke, and I will be leaving to go to a better gym.

TL;DRā€” Walk away. Gym is dirty and equipment is not maintained. I signed up for a tour of the location and was given a haphazard walk around the gym. The guide knew little about exercise and needs of a customer. She pressured for me to signup that day but gave little information about options, etc. I knew more from the website than from her. THANKFULLY I asked for a 5 day guest pass I went 3 days out of the five and discovers that this gym is a NO GO. While it looks like they have tons of machines many are out of orderā€¦ so youā€™ll hop on several and have to figure out which ones are working. Also the gym is DIRTY. I mean layers of dust laying on top of cardio machines. This wasnā€™t just in one place but all over. One day I did wipe down and clean all of the equipment in the ladies only room because it was just awful. The pool is murky and though I brought a suit one dayā€¦ I decided to not risk jumping in a dirty pool. There are much better options than Esporta. I opted for Next Level Fitness for a similar price just up the road. They have an amazingly friendly and knowledgeable staff, more (and working) equipment, and it is SUPER clean.

Place is not what it use to be. They literally haven't updated a thing in probably 10 years. Also only having 2 benches with so many people is crazy. I'm always waiting at least 5 min for a bench. Gym is just being milked for it's last leg. Staff is awesome and very friendly, but the people that come here are inconsiderate a lot of the time. Weights scattered all over the building. 45lbs on the outside with smaller weights on the inside. People using the bench to do forearm curls...

I have mixed feeling about LA fitness or Esporta. So - one star for the name change but this locations parking lot is horrible, so many pot holes itā€™s not even funny. The front desk lady in the morning has this ā€œI HATE THIS PLACE, KILL ME NOWā€ look and itā€™s so depressing. The stairmaster are so out of date itā€™s sad. It just needs a face lift and maybe a front desk replacement with a robot that smiles. Just because sheā€™s pretty doesnā€™t mean she should be there..

Only been here three weeks but so far Iā€™m not impressed. Every piece of equipment is a hand me down and in poor shape, the facility is definitely not cleaned every night, and, as with most gyms, thereā€™s far too much cardio equipment that gets unused and not enough lifting equipment. Only two bench presses and one squat rack. Apparently the people here havenā€™t learned gym etiquette either since nothing gets wiped down or reracked once theyā€™re finished. For $40/month itā€™s fine especially since you get access to every club in the country but overall unimpressive. Planet Fitness while not having any serious lifting equipment, at least provides a clean facility at half the price.

This gym has all the amenities needed (Pool, weights, sauna, cardio, basketball court, racquetball) however equipment is often broken and never gets fixed in a timely manner. Staff is friendly but it seems they only have 1 janitor on staff as toilet paper is often empty, bathrooms are disgusting and paper towels are empty. Sauna never gets cleaned and basketball court is dusty. Basketball courts have had broken rims for 5 days now, and the roof often leaks when it rains heavy in various spots throughout the building. Signs indicate the rims were broken due to guests which is likely because the front desk is looking at their phones rather than ensuring everybody checks in. I go to this gym a minimum of 5 days a week and would appreciate if staff and management gave some effort into making this gym a better workout experience.

I usually donā€™t make effort to publicly comment on business or employee in negative response, however feel my frustration needs noted. Steve (GM) took my call in response to inquiry as Iā€™m comparing local fitness centers. I asked Steve about fees not mentioned or noted during our initial conversation, specifically offering me a month to month contract ($39.99), but neglecting to mention the ($54) ā€œannual feeā€ charged two weeks after you sign up, nor noting the $25 cancellation fee if your commitment is less than four months. Making a well informed decision was my priority, however I hope Steve was just having a bad day, but my right to inquiry caused Steve to hang up on me. I hold no Iā€™ll will toward Steve, but his approach to the drawback couldā€™ve been handled better. Note to viewers, be well informed before signing a contract.

Been going here for years. Simple, good gym. I love the cycling classes and spend most of my time on the top floor. Most of the real weightlifters, aka free weights are downstairs. Every now and then there's a machine that doesn't work but they get repaired pretty quickly, and for the price this is a great gym.

  • 3/5 Jeteia J. 8 months ago on Google
The gym is conveniently located. I love that thereā€™s a track upstairs and plenty of light. Lots of different machines to use. Has different rooms so everyone can be comfortable. BUT the biggest issue is the equipment upstairs is FILTHY, itā€™s visibly covered in dirt and even mold. Itā€™s really a shame that itā€™s not getting cleaned or the attention that it deserves. Please do better Esporta New Albany!

Equipment maintenance at this location is nonexistent, and the equipment is also increasingly dirty. The chest press machine has been out of balance since the beginning of April due to a missing rubber bumper. This used to be a very popular machine, but hardly anyone uses it anymore. I brought this issue to two managers' attention back in April/May, but neither bothered to make a note of it. I also sent a letter to corporate in June to see if this would help get the ball rolling, but I got no answer. The lever for the adductor machine has now also been broken for almost three weeks. Apparently, no one cares about the state of the equipment. I am hoping that someone at Esporta will take note of this review and take care of these issues. If this review is still up, that means the equipment has not been fixed.

I agree with the previous posts. I guess you get what you pay for in some cases....but there is equipment that has been broken for months, paper towel dispensers that have been empty for days or up to a week, and a front desk staff that usually ignores patrons when they walk in. There are a few friendly exceptions that I really appreciate but they aren't typical. It's neglected and isn't customer oriented. Yep, the policy on masks was not enforced with staff for the past 3 months, and certainly not with patrons. I like to work out in the cardiotheatre but when the movie ends it can blank for 15-20 mins before the desk crew notices it needs rebooting. Usually because I call them.

The place is really not kept up well at all. Pretty dirty, cramped, and were out of paper towels frequently. The racquetball court was the only reason I signed up, and it was so dirty all the time it was barely usable, even after we notified management and requested help several times. The extremely grippy racquetball shoes I have would not grip at all due to the amount of dirt and dust. When trying to plant your feet you would just slide 6 inches. It really could have been fine if it got swept regularly. Plus people would use it for whatever they wanted, and left trash in there that would not be cleaned up. On top of that, the court was down for multiple weeks due to a water leak and we got the runaround when trying to find out when it would be fixed. Never even heard back from them. Overall very poor experience.

The gym is simply not big enough. Youā€™ll feel squeezed if you donā€™t go at the most inconvenient time. Cleaning stations are not close to anything so equipment doesnā€™t get cleaned by guests. Some equipment has been ā€œscheduled for serviceā€ for Weeks. Already feeling ripped off and itā€™s been 2 months since I joined.

Steve, the peppery bald man at the front desk with no name badge and an attitude that screams ā€œI need laidā€ had the heavy task of helping me to cancel my membership. Might I say how delightful he was upon first impression. I walk in, and have to greet Steve myself as he stares blankly in my direction. He asks how he may help. I say ā€œ I need an operations manager toā€¦ā€ he immediately cuts me off and says ā€œWELL what are you here for??ā€ I turn to my husband, and he takes a few steps away, affirming my discomfort. Steve says the operations manager is out of office with a headache and he makes a call to cancel my membership. Wonderful. What I came for was handled, but after this interaction Iā€™M the one left with a headache. Steve, do you cut people off mid sentence when theyā€™re applying for a memberships too, or do they get a different approach from you??

As a new member, the cost is good for what you get and it is in a great location from my home. There is not a mask in sight (not even when people walk in) and there is not cleaner throughout the gym, are my only complaints. Overall, a good experience.

A few issues...this gym isn't very clean. There is dust and clumps of dirt all around the equipment, in the locker room, and in the sauna. I saw an employee actually smoking (or vaping) in the mens restroom. But honestly worst of all, with noice-cancelling earbuds in while working out...the amount of noise coming from the basketball court is just ridiculous. The yelling from the players is non-stop and it echoes throughout the gym. It's such a distraction that I've left quite a few times while working out due to that noise.

I was here from California in early January while visiting family for 10 days. Emma was gracious enough to let me use the facilities for no charge while I visited. Other gyms were charging around $10/day. Esporta has yoga, a basketball court, a spin room, a pool, a private ladies only dedicated area and every other piece of cardio/weight equipment imaginable. Yes, it could be cleaner, but everything I used seemed to be in working order and I was able to get in some great workouts. There is very much a community vibe there. Will definitely return on subsequent visits!

Split on this review; they have everything you need and more with dumbbells going up to 125 lbs, but I do have my complaints: 1) seats in free weight area are in dire need of repair, specifically the fully adjustable benches. 2) mirror spacing in free weight area isā€¦ odd. During busy hours, which is pretty much early morning or evening, good luck finding a spot to watch your form. 3) entire place could use a refresh honestly, otherwise itā€™s a good place to workout.

Iā€™ve been coming here for a couple years now. Due to the pandemic the hours of operation at the nearest YMCA didnā€™t fit my schedule and ESPORTA was right there to step in their place. Best move I made. The gym hours can pretty much fit anyoneā€™s lifestyle unless youā€™re a 3rd shift only gym rat. Idk where the people in these interviews are coming from saying they donā€™t clean because Iā€™ve seen someone vacuuming and wiping all the time. Do things fall off at times? Sure, but theyā€™re right back at it. The equipment is solid. Every once in awhile something breaks down but isnā€™t that normal? I love coming here. Theyā€™re a part of BCBSā€™s Well on target fitness program so thatā€™s a plus.

Pretty good gym/ club alot of good equipment favorite being the technogym series and cybex chest fly machine. I would chose this gym if you are a frequent lifter and need a good gym in your area besides the local planet fitness. Only gripe is the locker room. There should be measures in place to prevent people from smoking in there as it gets very humid from the sauna

Iā€™ve been going here for two years and the quality has gone down terribly. Not only that but Iā€™m heavily tattooed, I get harassed by staff constantly now. I have had workouts interrupted to ā€œvalidate Iā€™m a memberā€. Itā€™s all pretty funny now because I bought a pricey advertising deal for my business in the gym beginning of this year. Now I have employees harass me if I snuck in while I see my business being promoted, lol. Now, onto the sanitation. There is none & there are tor nails on the floor. I see old men without shoes regularly. Maybe go harass them?

For the price it's pretty good for a gym, people here are generally nice and supportive for newcomers. The staff is nice and always willing to help you. Only complaint I do has is sometimes the weights or missing or in the wrong rack. The sauna is nice and enjoyable after a good gym session.

Could be the dirtiest gym Iā€™ve ever been too. Theres are often piles of paper towels and dust in the corners. I go 4x a week. Iā€™ve never seen anyone cleaning. Even the front desk is dirty. Why canā€™t the employee at the front not clean that area while he is there? Disinfectant bottles are often missing or gone. Very limited free weight selection. Iā€™ve emailed management about the cleanliness issueā€¦no reply. Alsoā€¦they donā€™t open till 8am on the weekends?! Covid excuses for the opening hours but not the cleanliness?

Itā€™s not bad, they have a lot of equipment and itā€™s a large space. Cleanliness and outdated equipment could be updated. The front desk staff are always kind and friendly. Parking lot is very small and shared with the strip mall, but they did recently get a lot of the pot holes fixed. There is a lap pool, sauna and womenā€™s only fitness area that I enjoy using. Overall a fine usable gym, but looks could be improved. Also sucks that theyā€™re cleaning the girls locker room from 5-6AM so if you go then you have to carry your things around with you. It would be better if it was just throughout the day or 30min in the morning and 30mins at night.

Esporta is a great gym. Surprised at how clean all of the locations I've visited are. Most locations have plenty of space so even when it's crowded, you're not elbow to elbow with people. The biggest issues I've experienced are the saunas sometimes are on the fritz. The sauna and the pool are the reasons I've kept my membership for over 2 years. Esporta has a great app that hosts a digital membership card and put up announcements but there's never any community updates on the status of broken equipment like the sauna. It would be great if there was a better way to see more detailed updated so I don't waste a trip to the gym to find the sauna is closed. The hours are also somewhat restrictive. Monday - Friday the gym is open from 5am - 9/10pm. The weekends are open from 8am-5pm Sundays 8am - 1pm. Not nearly enough time for people busy during the week. I'm not sure how it would work but if this place was open 24 hours I would give a solid 5 stars!

I have been a member at LA Fitness/ESporta for over 5+ years now and the current conditions of the New Albany, Ohio ESporta has taken a serious decline. Most notably the Sauna, elliptical, treadmills and the overall cleanliness of the establishment is very disappointing. The Sauna floor is constantly filled with black very noticeable dirt from not being cleaned consistently, the sauna benches are weak, rotten and unclean. Every other treadmill or elliptical machine is broken or you have to apply extreme force to the buttons in order for it to work, cup holders are broken. The locker room smells like a sewer "everyday", lockers are dirty inside, broken or both, and the locker room floors consistently have trash on them. I am not sure what has happened to this establishment since changing hands but something has been missed here. Many have provided this feedback to the front desk, but I am not sure if it really matters to them at this point. I patronize this gym because of its close proximity to my home, but I can no longer pay fees to an establishment that conducts business in this manor.

I have been a member of this gym for years and it has just been steadily going down hill since esporta took over ownership. Safe to say today was my last day attending the gym. I found a bed bug in the locker room and management acted as if itā€™s not a big deal, i would strongly advise to not put your stuff in any lockers!

I joined recently as I was in need of a gym that had more stations and heavier free weights than my previous facility. The location is super convenient and the staff is quite friendly. But after my second day, I have some really serious concerns about the place. For starters, benches, weight trees, and even a few portions of the rubberized flooring are in very serious states of disrepair. There doesnā€™t seem to be much in the way of routine checks of the floor during business hours as weights, plates, and equipment are scattered about EVERYWHERE throughout the weight room floor to the point that finding certain weights, bars, etc. is a scavenger hunt. Though I wouldnā€™t call it filthy, there seems to be an overall ā€œdirtinessā€ specifically within the free weights and machine portion of the facility. Benches are just serviceable at best and some of them are outright unusable and dangerous at worst. The main entrance is due for a major overhaul as the doors require a rather hefty jerk or push to open. On a positive note, the indoor track, cycle/spinning theater, and circuit training areas appear to be in good shape and the (menā€™s) locker room seem to be serviced relatively well. For under $30 per month, it is a decent value but there needs to be some serious replacement of and remediation done to this locationā€™s equipment and amenities.

Iā€™ve been working out at the Old Hamilton club for a few years now. Over the last few months I have seen significant improvement in the status of the club. Itā€™s been much cleaner, the locker rooms are always neat, and the staff is always very nice and friendly and make me feel welcomed. Despite the club being old and dated, they have done a great job keeping up with it. If thereā€™s ever an issue, it usually get fixed the next day without having to ask twice. I have not noticed this urgency in the past. This gym is always a great outlet for me and I always enjoy coming in. -Korey J.

Love the facility. There are a lot of different machines to choose from. The track is nice. The pool looks nice, I haven't used it yet. I also enjoy that I can work out and watch a movie in the theater room if I would like . This gym is pretty good for the price. Some of the equipment seems kind of worn down and old, but it gets the job done! Iā€™d recommend if you need a decent place and donā€™t need anything extra fancy! My one complaint is the childcare area can be inconsistent on the weekend which is my one guaranteed day to go, but other than that itā€™s pretty good.

Steve Gill is an amazing asset to this gym. The front desk folks leave little desire for anyone to want to interact with them. Twice I've been in since joining and Steve set me up to automatically be checked into the gym, each time I went in I scaned my membership card on my phone. I NEVER get a greeting upon entering the gym or a goodbye upon leaving. Someone needs to come in and teach the front desk staff how to be friendly and personable. Honestly if it wasn't for Steve and the gym being close to where I live and Steve being friendlier than the other gym I looked at I would have kept looking, but for $10 a month you can't find that anywhere else. Well where the gym is good.

This gym gets the job done but the weights smell straight up like broccoli. Ive been going to La Fitness/Esporta from the age of 16-25 currently. I do feel like the people who work out here dont judge eachother and just want to get their workout done and leave. Great beginner gym. I also can use my membership in other states too when I travel.

Very good gym especially for the price. Very knowledgeable GM and there was no pressure when I was deciding to join or not. Pool, sauna, weights, and a rig, good stuff. I do wish the customers would clean up after themselves, act like adults and put their weights away, but that isn't the staff's fault.

I've been going here for over a year. Great staff and friendly clientele. I do the spin class with Matt at 5:45 a.m. and he owns it. Chris also does a great job at the spinning class. Gym is generally clean, front desk is staffed and nice, and other than the crazy amount of leaks when it rains, the juice is worth the squeeze. I got my membership early and it's $25 a month. I think now it's $35, but that's still very low for what they offer.

This place is absolutely mismanaged and terrible. Equipment is constantly broken. A machine broke within inches of my feet dropping 100+lbs on the floor. Weight benches are held up by pins from other weight stacks so that the bench is shaky. This place is unsafe along with disgusting showers and locker rooms. Find another gym.

The gym is okay, it does the job. But the place is filthy and you can smell it! The dumbbells and free weight area smells like farts and weed mixed together lol. Also the equipment placement is horrific, makes the gym feel so crowded and dangerous! Thereā€™s so many machines in there that are old and can probably be replaced/removed. And thereā€™s also equipment that I would love to see added that other gyms have, like a hip thrust machine. I agree with the majority of other reviews that this place is dirty and just overall not a clean environment to be in. The only saving graces that save this review from being a 1 star is the location and the friendly employees. The employees always greet you and bring a positive energy to the place. Otherwise, this gym kind of stinks! But w/ living in New Albany not many options remainā€¦so I am stuck here :)

Was in the area visiting family for the holidays and decided to get a couple of workouts in at the New Albany location. Staff/front desk was very friendly, equipment and floor was clean, and locker rooms were spotless! Iā€™ll definitely be coming back to this location when I come back to town.
