The pros: - they have something for everyone (can also be a con) - no contract to join - decently priced, especially if you're in the military - multiple shower and locker facilities - good hours of operation - childcare is available The cons: - equipment is outdated and not well maintained - workout areas are small, especially during busy hours - parking can be a pain during busy hours - understaffed during the holidays - workout areas and equipment are not cleaned on a regular basis - no deadlift platforms or enough powerlifting/"rubber" plates. Hope you like hearing 315 lbs being dropped on a concrete floor with minimum padding!

My fist time here just visiting from out of state and i liked it here 🤭😅 its clean and the staff are helpful especially that i was coming with a membership from another state. Overall. Its a great gym 💪🏼 i will be working out here for the next week! Update: well sucks that they didn't let me work out the next morning at 6:30am because i don't have the national membership or whatever and they wanted to charge me a fee for a guest pass. Which i wouldn't mind if the front desk person did her job the previous day and verify my status so i wouldn't have wasted my time waking up early. It's a great gym but the front desk person wasted my time and as a gym person its horrible.

This YMCA is a bit out of date… very small but it has plenty to do.. (the rock wall is gone) I think it need to be upgraded. (Redo locker rooms, extended the building, repaint or deep clean the pool and hot tub, space out the equipment more, more than one court to play basketball ball, etc.)I’ve traveled around the USA and I’ve seen the upgrades of how YMCA’s are looking now and days. I think this location would benefit from a upgrade because it’s in the heart of downtown Phenix City and new residents. I gave this location 3 stars because the staff is the best and they do what they can to keep this place up and running. The staff is also helpful, nice and also help me and my family when we go inside. I feel safe when I go here.

I just finished taking the adult swimming class at the JP Thayer location in Columbus, GA and I want to let everyone know what a great experience it was. The adult instructor I had was Chloe and she is absolutely amazing!! It’s never too late to learn to swim and if you want someone who is patient, kind and just an all-around wonderful person Chloe is the instructor for you. When I began, I had a fear of deep water, but at the end, Chloe helped me conquer that fear. I also want to acknowledge the other instructors Cody, Sarah and the lifeguard Kate. Thanks to you all this girl can swim in any depth of water. Yippee!!

Nice gym with friendly staff. They have several good classes that I enjoy, however I'd like to see more yoga, pilates, Barre, and other body weight classes instead of the Body Pump - but I know that they only have the one fitness room and they have to offer the classes that are most popular. The equipment is in good condition and the facility is clean. I wish they had ceiling fans in the weight and cardio areas, it can get very hot working out in there with no moving air. I don't have any problems with other members and I feel safe working out at this location, but that feeling of safety stops at the doors. I do not feel safe walking out to my car if I'm leaving after dark.

It's okay if you're trying to do tons of cardio at a gym that is right next to the river walk, WHERE PEOPLE DO TONS OF CARDIO, but it's a pretty trash experience that is not worth the $40/mo if you're trying to primarily build muscle and lift weights, because the weight room is: - Too small for the amount of people who frequently come to this gym wanting to do weight training - Lacks a decent amount of weightlifting equipment - Literally only has 1 incline bench - Literally only has 1 decline bench - Majority of the weight equipment that they do have is way too close together. I'm talking less than 3ft apart close, and no I am not exaggerating. - The number of cardio equipment outnumbers the number of weight equipment. The only reason I am still a member of this gym is because of the convenient location it is in. I most likely will eventually get a membership at a different gym so this specific gym is just a placeholder for now.

Came to this location with intentions to get a gym membership, no one cared to acknowledge me what so ever. Asked the lady at the front desk where can I get information on getting a membership she said she could help, she said this was her second week so understandable. She gave me a brief tour and advised the man at the front can assist me if I was wanting to move forward with a membership, still no one acknowledged me while I’m standing right in front of him you would’ve thought they had people lined up all the way outside the door. I decided to just leave and I will look for a gym that’s more welcoming and just have a better energy/vibe within the establishment.

Was really enjoying my membership. But the cleaning crew goes overboard on the pine sole which I’m deathly allergic to. I’ve asked repeatedly for a cleaning schedule so I can avoid the health trigger, to which I was laughed at, and told to come at closing or at opening don’t matter what my time frames are for work or life. And that the issue is unresolvable. Have left several messages with the manager to be ignored. So I will be in this week to cancel my membership and will be letting others know that if you have a medical emergency there you will be ignored and laughed at

Unfortunately not the cleanest of facilities, outdated rusty equipment, over crowded, childcare little control and needs to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected especially the bathroom, there was pee covered toilet paper stuck to the seat and stuck to the wall beside the toilet. A complete disgusting mess. You had 10+yr olds sitting in baby swings and bouncers, little kids were running around knocking babies over and the only thing the young man in charge could say to the baby is "oh, your alright" definitely not comfortable leaving my baby at all... We have only been members for one month and cancelling.

The staff is kind and helpful for the most part. Beautiful Y with a lot of great options for exercise. You should watch your belongings here though, I’ve had shampoo, swim ear plugs, and goggles all disappear here. Make sure you have everything before you leave. You’ll be disappointed when you come back looking for it and it’s gone.

Friendly staff, friendly people in there. Lots of space. Swimming lanes never crowded. Locker room is annoying with a bunch of big lockers with locks on them not being used. Open lockers are tiny tiny. Other than that good

Lack of lifeguards means limited hours of swim times for pool. Add in kayak hours and water aerobics means no lap swimming.

Friendly and helpful staff but this place needs some work . The whirlpool is never working , shower handles are broken . Loose boards everywhere in the sauna I stepped on a nail the other day in there seriously the sauna is just completely unsafe . Steam room out of order nothing seems to ever be working there

My daughter was there for parents night out. She was shy at first but the staff made her feel comfortable. When I came back for pick up she was definitely happy and asked when she was going back. Thank you for looking after my little one.

Great experience with my swim lessons... but the front desk people need some lessons on hospitality. Anytime I asked a question one of the girls would have an attitude either the one with blonde hair that always work night or the burnette with glasses.

Great atmosphere and friendly staff! I also have to brag on their Child Watch staff - they’re all so genuine and friendly, making drop-off incredibly easy and comforting. So glad to be part of this community!

Love going here to swim. The water is clean and a comfortable temperature. Accessable stairway to get in, if you find the ladders difficult, like I do. Best part- reward your workout with some time in the adjacent whirlpool. Heavenly!

I've had my membership for about 2 months, I like the facility is clean, I feel safe, and the people are kind and accommodating, but for $40 a month, I wish there was more weightlifting equipment. On one of my days there, there were 3 sets of couples working out on the leg press and hip adductors/abductors, going back and forth for about an hour. Which is fine, but I would love to see 2 of each of the popular machines.

I enjoyed the group fitness class but, felt that it was very rude that no one at the front desk spoke or even smiled as I came in. Most YMCA's that I attend are very welcoming. Staff should be trained on customer service.
