The only thing decent about the hostel is that the staff on reception were very nice and location was OK. We got a 4 bed room.Rooms are tiny! Way too small for 4 adults! Beds were uncomfortable and sheets didn't fit the mattresses properly! The cord for the blind was too high. You had to stand on a stool or the windowsill to put the blind up. The shower and toilet area was smelly. No lock on one shower or toilet! In the end we got up at 6.30 in the morning and just left. I have stayed in numerous hostels but I'm sorry to say I wouldn't dream of staying here again!

Stayed for one night and got woken up by 3 builders walking into the room at 8am in the morning doing bathroom maintenance. The dorms are pretty small as they are and this one was all female so it was pretty disrespectful having males walk through at that hour with no notice. The front desk was lovely tho but this was not okay for privacy reasons.

Giving one Star to write this but I would give it no Stars if I could. This was a horrible experience. Stayed here to be able to get to work easy the next day as my car was being repaired. The rooms are NOT 161ft² and crammed full of beds. I was in a 6 bed room where you could barely move if more than one person was standing up. No one had any respect for the fact people wanted to sleep. Doors opening and closing and people shouting etc. until 3am and then started up again at 5am. Room was boiling hot. No lockers or storage in the room. Nowhere to place your clothes etc. in the shower to keep them dry. Everything was dirty and stank. You have to pay extra for a locker to keep your things safe. I would not recommend anyone stay here. Avoid if you can.

If i could I'd leave zero stars. Disgusting smelly rooms, staff isnt very polite or helpful when asking questions. I would avoid this hostel at all costs, especially if you are a woman traveling alone. Better go to Bru bar & hostel. Same prices but much better.

Very tight rooms. Really busy hostel, so quite easy to make friends. Everything you'd expect. Wasn't there long enough to figure out parking rules but I think you can buy a parking disc from them. Parking charges between 8.30am and 6 pm, where you can only stay for 2 hours without a disc. and I couldn't find a ticket machine so had to use the app which requires credit with a min top up of 10 euro.

Liked · The location is great, walkable from bus and train station. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a storage room to keep your luggage if you check-in early. The kitchen and dining space is great. There are several toilets and shower so there was never a wait. Everything is clean. Can't get anything better at this price here.

Beds were clean and overnight laundry service was fab! My review is based on my experience with the private room, which was a great price for the location. Staff were friendly too. Only cons for me was the shower was a bit wonky, took ages to heat up and you kept having to press the button. Also my window didn’t have blinds and looked right onto the back patio! Had to cover with a towel and pillow for privacy 😬

Dear Sheila, Where is your spirit gone? Let me explain to you: I came here for the first time in 2006, came back a few times since, then stopped a while when I started to call Cork home. Then I left Cork, and I needed you to host me. Which you always do, with great staff, and cleanliness. But my God, why your prices skyrocketed that much? I remember the time I could have a 4 beds dorm for 16 euro. Or less. But now, I was lucky to have an 8 beds dorm for 29 euro!! And the man who wanted to check in at the same time as me was given the price of 40 euro for the same kind of dorm! I know, you are probably telling me inflation, rise of property cost and insurance... but, Sheila, is there really nothing you can do? Your mission is to offer a safe, affordable and friendly accommodation to travelers with low budget. Please, do not sink into greed! That would not be one bit like you! Dear Sheila, once again thank you for having me and I look forward to seeing again. But please, never forget your mission! Still with love, Clement

I just want to note that the staff was super nice and super kind. The location is great! Now... Don't stay in this hostel. EVER. Really, I've stayed in so many hostels and my experience here was just dreadful. I booked a 6 bed room and that space is for 4 persons maximum. I could literary feel and hear everyone's breath and if you add the fact that there's just a tiny tiny skylight it makes it even worse. The room was VERY hot and the air was just trapped there. Plus, the beds are zero comfortable. I don't even want to talk about the toilets but it's necessary. They STINK and they look like they get cleaned once a day at the most, and taking into consideration the fact that it was full house... you can imagine. I booked 3 nights and after the second night of not sleeping and being so uncomfortable tossing and turning all night, I decided to leave and never come back. I suggest that you look other options, you may find a hotel for only some more euros (and believe me it's worth it)

Positives about the hostel: low price, close to the city, and friendly staff (shoutout to MG!). I felt safe in the area. However, it is crowded, difficult to sleep in the larger dorms (because of the noise outside and small, cramped rooms), and does not have an elevator. At the end of the day, it's a budget youth hostel and you get what you pay for... but there are much nicer hostels. If you're looking to get a good night's sleep, I'd go elsewhere.

It was so bad that I decided to go back to my country. It's noisy and overcrowded and the thing that should matter the most, which are the beds, are very uncomfortable and you can't even move a muscle or it will wake up the entire room with their metal sound, this goes on on the entire night.... I've been to military facilities that are more comfortable. It's better than living on the streets or in prison, I suppose. If you are a woman you will suffer more, prepare to be placed in a male room without warning (at your check-in to be fair), and all bathrooms are shared, the most uncomfortable place I have ever been. As I can't give zero stars this one is for the cleanliness, it's clean, but the toilets not so much. You have to try to believe! I wish you a better luck than me.

Ive stayed here many a time before and have always had a great experience. Staff are so friendly and willing to help anytime, booking was so easy. The beds are comfortable and the place is kept clean. They have a lovely outside area with a shelter and benches. Never had a problem with this place, and really not expensive but such a comfy place to stay.

Overall the hostel was just not very clean. The room was very smelly and the toilet and bathroom were not clean. I had a shared dorm with 5 men and honestly I didnt feel safe at all because of the open beds. I would NOT recommend this to female solo travellers. The service however was very good and when I was disgusted by my roommates in the middle of the night they helped me out. Very friendly!

The room I was in was small and only had a skylight that couldn't be opened making the room hot and stuffy. (No chance to switch rooms as it was fully booked) Bathroom was dirty as people had come back from partying late at night. Breakfast was just toast and cereal for €4. Lots of space to seat and eat meals, plus a big kitchen. The location was great, close to the bus station and down town Cork. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

Stayed for 2 nights in a private dorm with en suite with my friend. All the staff were lovely, helpful and friendly and it's in a fantastic location. Room was clean & had towels, plenty plug sockets, was able to borrow a hairdryer from reception. Noise does travel through the corridors and walls are quite thin but can't really fault it for the price. Thank you very much & would recommend!

My best friend and I stayed there on two separate occasions for three nights each. We had a private room with our own bathroom. It was a simple, clean room. I really enjoyed the kitchen and the common areas. The kitchen was like a commercial kitchen - fully stocked and well organized! I loved how many sinks there were for washing up, and I loved how many little refrigerators there as well. Fantastic shelving too. Overall a really good stay in a good location. The people at the front desk were helpful too. ☺️

Stayed in a mixed 8 bed dorm. The staff was nice and helpful and the kitchen was great (except for scratched up teflon pans). The dorm felt really crowded and warm. The beds were made with a huge sheet that you had to wrap around you if you didn't want to end up on the rubber mattress. No security lockers in the dorm and no notice to be quiet during the night so people were loud in both hallways and the dorm long after midnight. Very few toilets, showers and sinks. We had to wait to wash our hands after using the toilet. And wait to brush our teeth.

Average experience : private room is a bunk bed with a single on top and double on the bottom with very light mattress so very little comfort The room offers a mirror and little space. Bathrooms are limited (2 for a floor) and so are toilets. No shower gel dispenser in the shower (and not temperature adjustment possible). Only one hook to hang your things otherwise it's the floor. It's clean though. All has a cost : towels, lockers, parking (disk sold not lent). Breakfast 4€ for cereals ,coffee, scones milk so we didn't take it. No elevator and quite steep staircase. For one night it's fine.

Good location, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. If you are planning a 2 or even 3 days trip to Cork this hostel can be a good option. Sometimes is very noisy because of the wood floor. Also the kitchen equipments and cutlery very dirty in a very disgusting way.

In a crisis where I was on the verge of homelessness on my first day of four months in Cork, I stayed at Sheila's Hostel for five days while I sorted out my long term stay. For a cheap price (compared to other short term housing in Cork) I got a bed, a warm shower, and incredible service during my entire stay. On top of that, a great location so close to the city centre. One night there was a situation with an overly drunk customer in my room, and that is just what can happen, it's out of their control. They did however handle it expertly at 4 am, without it bothering me too much. Can't stress enough how nice and friendly all the staff were, I would recommend it to anyone who needs somewhere to stay a few nights!

Stayed in the private room with ensuite. My experience was great, so the current rating makes no sense to me. Location is great, lots of restaurants and pubs nearby. I would stay here again.

Loved my stay here. Great hostel. Location is great. The building is clean and safe. Facilities are great. Kitchen free to use. Has everything. Chill areas are large and comfy. Rooms are clean. Best thing was staff and travelers. Real good vibe. Managed well. Good thing going here for now. Back for sure

I did not expect that the hostel could be as good as at home. Everywhere so sterile clean. A lot of thought is given to every detail that would be necessary for a person staying there. Because everything is like home there! The service is at the highest level, the staff is very sensitive and welcoming! Recommend!!

Good hostel with kindly service at good place to the city center just 10 min. walk. The room was okay, but the shower sometimes was dirty especially at evening. Breakfast is 4€ it you want. It’s worth it but not expect too much - the jam not a real home made jam and no fruits. I spent there 10 days, thank you.

A bit of a walk from city center. The room was for 6 people but definitely should have only been for 4. You could hear the people by you breathing and their wasn’t much ventilation or sound proofing so it was very easy to hear noise from the hall way. Lockers you had to pay for unless you got lucky and could have one of the 3 available in a room of 6. I don’t think I’d stay here again and as a solo traveler they hold nothing for you to meet people.

Stayed for 3 nights, had just booked 2 so for the 3rd I had to change the room. Worked no problem, just like check-in and -out. Very friendly staff. Towels to rent, min. 2 common areas (I used only one, Cork itsself is too beatiful), with electronic lockers. The kitchen is upstairs, where many of the rooms are, right next to one of the areas, well equipped, fridges and other storage too. The rooms are clean, beds with plugs, USB-plugs and light. The first one was an 8-bed room. The facilities are pretty far away, had to walk like through half the building for it, but I think mine was the one furthest away, others are nearer. They're pretty alright regarding size and cleanness, there was a bit of mold at the air vents for the showers though. The 6-bed room has it's own bathroom, was just one though. The street to the hostel is steep so it can be exhausting. Walking distance (5 mins) to the city center where the buses go as well. The coach stops from Dublin and to Limerick are both in walking distance too.

Nice and wholesome staff. Reasonable price given the living cost of Ireland. However, the room was not well-ventilated. Also, the room was poor soundproof especially at night.

Good value for money but the shower is almost always cold no matter how many times you press the button. Guests are very loud even late at night. Staff is very professional.

I came late, it's okay, but giving me an occupied bed is not a good thing, especially when you're charging me 27 euros a night. The ensuite bathroom was okay but it would be awesome if lights didn't turn off when I'm in the middle of a shower. Also breakfast toasts weren toasted.

DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOSTEL DURING A PANDEMIC. I don't know how this place is able to stay open during covid. I booked a mixed dorm room for 3 nights but packed up in the middle of night the first night and left. The rooms are small with the beds absolutely not 6ft/2m apart and NO CURTAIN. There were older men in my room who were coughing ALL NIGHT - at least 3 people coughing all night... During a pandemic! No vaccination proof or proof of negative COVID test was checked. NO ONE was wearing a mask and this hostel was FULL. I will say that the staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable. They refunded me for the other 2 nights I was planning to stay, as I decided to find accomodation elsewhere due to the seemingly unsafe conditions during covid.

Unbearable hot, heating is on 24/7 and can't be turned off even when you ask, had to sleep with all the windows open in the middle of winter when it was frosty outside. Staff member threatened to call the police on us for not being out at 9:30 when check-out time is clearly stated at 11, they clearly have a problem with younger people. Bad atmosphere and hostile.

This was a beautiful hostel i stayed only a night but all the people around were so lovely and the room was fab this would definitely be a good place to stay for eneyone that is moving around the place well improved place well done💗

Probably the worst room I've ever had in a hostel. Way too many beds for a room of its size with an almost total absence of windows. The bed itself was just foam pad and duvet, both too short to sleep on without your cold feet hanging over the end of the mattress or else onto someone else's pillow.

Nice hostel near the city centre just 7 min walk , the staff friendly and helpful , the bad thing is some of the guests they don't care about leaving the shoes in room and smile bad , please guys to the visitors keep ur shoes in bag or plastic bag and respect the others, because no one can feel his smile from his shoes thanks ☺️

Decent hostel (especially if u get a private room) with decent facilities. Clean. Very good location. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere in general. Lots of amenities on offer. Downside, very noisy, not much ventilation in the room. The biggest problem this hostel has is their beds. They're metal and make so much noise when you toss and turn, i think people in alcatraz had more comfortable mattresses. They are rock hard, short, flat pillow & with a noisy metal frame it's impossible to sleep. If you are an easy sleeper it should be fine

  • 2/5 Clare 1 year ago on Google
I thought it was overpriced for a hostel. It's not possible to get a decent night's sleep here. The walls are so thin and the outdoor area is right outside the window so it was noisy until about 2 or 3am - this was on a Tuesday night. The WiFi didn't work. The bedroom floor was dirty and sticky. The bed was uncomfortable and the sheets had stains on them. The only socket in the whole room was right next to the door and you couldn't open the door if you had something plugged in there. I didn't use the kitchen but we went in before checking out and it was quite dirty. The few positives were the location being only a few minutes walk to the city centre, the friendly staff and that it seems to be a great place to meet people and socialize if that's the purpose of your stay.

Good Hostel for Cheap Price. Book atleast 2 months back to get a room on weekends. Clean. Reception staffs are friendly. Breakfast can be improved. Overall Great Experience.

if you’re a solo female traveller beware, the hostel doesn’t care about your safety concerns. i expressed discomfort with some people i was sharing a room with, and the staff simply dismissed me and stated that ‘i would be fine’. this was not the case. sheila’s hostel is neglectful and carelesss

The room for 4 people was very small, only with the bunk beds, not even a place to store things. The shared bathroom was in another floor and not very clean or spacious for too many people to share with. Very noisy hostel. Not a pleasant experience. The only value is the price and the location.

  • 1/5 Guillaume G. 1 year ago on Google
Few days before we arrived, they ask us to pay the first night with no reason and threat us tu cancel the order if we don't. The bed a too small if you are over than 1.70m. Breakfast is not included. Toilettes are dirty.

  • 3/5 Léa C. 1 year ago on Google
Staff was friendly, the location is good but the room are very small and the matress unconfortable. The shared bathroom was pretty clean regarding the amount of people meant to use it, but the hostel was loud until late in the night.

In 2022 when you book a place to stay in Ireland you expect it to come with the basic amenities like water, toilet, heating etc but never did I ever think that a room would come with NO ELECTRICITY!!! Not only did we have no electricity we were never informed about the issue prior to arrival or on check in, and when we went down to ask about the lack of power in our room, we were answered with "oh are you in 305 yea that room doesn't have electricity", we were offered a free breakfast to the value of €4 in compensation. When I went down to follow up with the issue as it was just not acceptable to have no electricity and mainly not be informed. The staff as helpful as she could really wasn't offering me much only a full refund if we didn't want to stay, which wasn't really an option as all accommodation at this point in the city was going to cost a fortune. Taking into consideration they wouldn't have been able to turn over the room as they had already let us check in, enter the room and no housekeeping would have been available to clean the room again until the following morning. I asked to speak with a manager, who unavailable to speak with me until Sunday afternoon after we had checked out, so after some further discussion she offered to phone the manager and I had to return to the front desk a hour later, with the end result being €16 returned to us for the inconvenience. #energycrisis 😑

Very simple hostel. Most of the place is clean but the bathrooms and showers have seen better days. Renting a locker is cheap and easy, front counter staff was super friendly and helpful, good security measures, lively atmosphere, great kitchen, multiple hangout areas, enough bathrooms (compared to my last few hostels), and pretty decent for the price.

  • 3/5 Sandra S. 1 year ago on Google
If you have many luggage or heavy baggage, try not to stay at 3rd floor because the hostel did not have a lift. Breakfast is 4€ and laundry is 10€. Poor heating that building was cold, especially in a shower room. Location of the hostel is near downtown shopping center.
