The homemade corn tortillas are a must!!! They offer the option of regular corn or homemade. Regular corn tortillas will never taste the same. The barbacoa was delicious. While it is not west Philly barbacoa as in made with goat or lamb leg it is pretty good. The chicharones were great as well as the homemade flour tortilla picadillo taco. The menudo had great flavor. It was more on the softer end for the texture but it was almost closing time. I’m sure the meat for the menudo is better when it’s earlier. The service was top notch as it was friendly, helpful, and quick.

Carnitas were hard and very salty. Mostly dark large pieces and some crumbs. I was there around 2 and probably the carnitas weren't fresh. It was almost closing time.

Wonderful staff and Amazing Food! My family and I were in Corpus visiting from San Antonio. We were given this restaurant as a suggestion from a family member and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is doing take out only right now due to staff shortage. The staff and owner Trey take care of their customers. We picked up our food and headed to shoreline to eat breakfast with a view. :)

I live out of town. I tried Sonny's last time I was in Corpus Christi and I was so impressed. I returned this week and had to make Sonny's Barbacoa a stop and I was not disappointed. I was greeted by several staff members - all very kind and smiling with very good attitudes. The food is also very good. I highly recommend and plan to return again next time I am in town.

Friendly service. Barbacoa is the best! Enchilada plate is good. And I highly recommend the fireball hot sauce. Unfortunately it's only served on the weekends but I highly recommend it. And the green tomatillo sauce is very spicy and made me sweat! The red sauce could use some spicing up. That is important one of the Staples of Mexican restaurants good hot sauce and good flour tortillas and corn tortillas.

Disappointed. Barbacoa was so dry and the chicharrones were not as good as before. Was looking forward to the chicharrones and it was just a chunk of meat. Not crunchy and tasteless. Will not go back. Used to be my favorite place.

Food use to be better, plus in one occasion we were at the drive thru- (mind you: they come out take your order and give you your food at the window) after taking my order the male employee asked if we wanted to tip. We answered no, due to its a damn drive thru!! (We usually carry extra dollars but not in this occasion) male employee walked away mad.. we go there often and he avoids us ever since.. we are looking for a new barbacoa place for now.

Drive thru on a Saturday morning. Those are not the flavors of a restaurant "gone downhill," that was excellent! The Chicharron Guisada (Charlie Brown style) had a sweet tomato sauce balance going on, the all-meat barbacoa worked well after some red salsa, and the chicharrones were addicting - soft and crisp, not crunchy and too salty like I've had at so many other places. Excellent!

A Corpus staple for traditional Mexican Breakfast items grandma would make. Tacos are hot, fresh, and well portioned. Try the number 1 special and don’t be disappointed. Beware the Fireball; muy pícoso!

So being from corpus all my life, i had never tried this please. Then the "pandemic" happened ,so they weren't allowing people to eat inside. With all that said, today i finally got my chance to try it out, and wow way better then i was told from the service to the food. They also let me try samples to make sure i was going to like before i ordered. This place is a must try and definitely on my A+ list.

Been buying Sonny’s for a while especially the barbacoa and I always order the all meat special but lately they’ve been giving me the mix instead .. disappointing when you go home to feed the fam and it’s pure mix all mainly fat . Food is not how it use to be

I very rarely give 5 stars to any restaurant. In my humble opinion, they have to hit everything just right, which, let's be honest, very few ever do. But Sonny's, MAN, this place hit it all just right. Upon entering this place, I was greeted by both the man taking orders outside for drive thru, and then as well as the lady inside. Very nice people. Next, I ordered 2 tacos to go, one barbacoa, and one bean and cheese. Guess what, paid UNDER $4 for both tacos. WHAT...?!? Mind blown. In this economy, (bear in mind I bought two bean and cheese tacos from some taqueria yesterday's and paid almost $7), those prices are crazy!! Awesome pricing. The tacos came out within 2 mins. Super fast. Flour tortillas were so delicious. Barbacoa was just right. Perfect. Not dry, not super greasy. I come work in CC once a month. I will DEFINITELY be coming to Sonny's Everytime. If you haven't tried his place out, do yourself a favor and stop by. You won't regret it. Sonny's, GREAT JOB!

This place we visited pre pandemic. It was bustling with what we believed valued, satisfied patrons. The food was really good. My wife and I revisited last week and were a bit saddened that the dining area was tapered down a bit, with only a few tables. That was before we had our breakfast plates served. Man!! I had the breakfast omelet and a the attached image shows, I completely forgot about taking pictures. It was just like the way I make them at home! Not bragging, just saying....

Used to be a nice place for breakfast but not anymore. Place closed off sitting areas. So now it's cramped and gloomy 😕 only 4 tables. Will not go there anymore

First timer here.. got the barbacoa pound combo and it is delicious!!! I will most def come back to try diff items and the barbacoa!!

Waited over 20 minutes for a pound of chicharrones… which wasn’t cheap. Just for them to be cold… semi burnt black stuff on them… tasted like old burnt oil. Some hard as a rock. And I’ve had them many times here before nice and fresh. Never again. Nasty after taste.

This was an interesting experience. Very tender, bland beef that really needed sauce. Not going back again for that. But. Perhaps the best sausage and refried beans I have ever eaten, added to some very good rice. Apparently those were the only main dishes available, at least on the Wednesday when I stopped in. The portions were, for me at least, too big for one meal, but too small for two so the next day I made leftoverroni. See the photo. The leftover refried beans worked well as a gravy substitute. As others noted, the drive through is less than optimal and because of it, there is a significant wait time. They also appeared to have separate cash and card prices.

The only place in Corpus Christi where I’ve been able to find food like back home in the RGV. Great Barbacoa, carnitas and chicharrón! And the staff is so kind and friendly.

This place was amazing. It does not look like much, but the food was wonderful, the staff was super friendly, and it was clean. I had barbarcoa tacos. They were some of the best I’ve ever had. The tortillas were perfect. I’m not sure what they do with the beans, but wow! Stop by for lunch sometime.

Sonny's is where I go when I'm craving barbacoa and don't feel like making it myself and their chicharrones, omgosh, are so delicious!!!

Great breakfast tacos! Danny is always friendly and if you’re a regular, he can usually remember your order! The owner & his sons always have the food on point!

I asked for 2 chalupas and a taco. Asked for everything on the side because i like to build my own. Told waitress to not give me much lettus, but to make sure i got lots of tomatoes and cheese.. this is what i got. That is enough cheese for one taco only. When i asked the waitress about it, she gave me attitude and brought me one more little cup of cheese and charged me for it too. If you can see in tbe photo, they also give you salsa in the little itty bitty sour cream cups. They charge too much for these skimpy servings. Its good food but they are not taking care of the customers well enough. We won't be back. There are lots of restaurants in this city that are reasonably priced and serve you well.
