We have lived in Dubai, London, California and Amsterdam and this is definitely one of our top-3 restaurants worldwide. It’s not an overstatement. We had the 6 courses experience with wine pairing and we loved it. The presentation of the dishes is just the beginning of the experience and every course - the majority from local suppliers - makes a trip to Covilhã worth just to dine at Açafrão. The service is amazing and the waiters explain with thoughtful detail every dish and where each ingredient came from. The room is simple but elegant, small but private, cozy and warm. Açafrão is simply Unmissable.

Enjoyed a lovely 3-day stay in mid August. The pool was delightful and well attended. The stone interiors of the building were charming. Two favorite standouts-a quaint beautifully decorated bar area with fireplace, table, cushioned chairs and sofa. Miguel did a terrific job of taking care of us each evening until 2:00 am while he ran the front desk and checked-in new arrivals. The last day we dined in the hotel restaurant for lunch. What a surprise! The food and service were superb, with some of the most creative cuisine we've had in 6 months in Portugal. The chef is immensely talented. The restaurant needs to be advertised and showcased. It is a first class restaurant and a jewel of the hotel. We will be back. Highly recommended.
