As
a
fellow
health
care
professional,
I
am
extremely
appalled
by
the
behaviour
displayed
by
the
supervising
technologist
towards
me.
I
went
in
for
a
simple
MRI
and
the
religious
discrimination
I
faced
by
this
lady
was
absolutely
unbelievable
and
straight
out
disgusting.
As
a
Muslim
hijabi
(religious
covering)
woman,
I
have
never
felt
so
uncomfortable
and
judged
by
an
individual,
especially
not
with
in
the
medical
field.
Our
code
of
ethics
aligns
with
all
other
healthcare
professionals,
which
is
to
care
for
the
patient
and
practice
as
well
as
promote
the
following
principles
of
care:
1. respects
the
dignity
and
autonomy
of
the
patient.
2. recognises
and
respects
patients’
diversity,
cultural
knowledge
and
skills,
gender,
beliefs,
values,
characteristics
and
lived
experience,
and
does
not
discriminate*
on
any
grounds.
She
most
definitely
does
not
practice
the
above
principles
that
should
be
embedded
within
every
patient
to
health
care
professional
interaction.
In
other
words
she
is
no
professional.
She
showed
no
respect,
sympathy
or
care
towards
my
concerns.
She
was
extremely
rude
and
dismissive
of
my
feelings
when
I
expressed
and
defended
my
self.
To
give
you
an
insight,
I
walked
into
the
MRI
room,
where
I
was
confronted
by
her,
who
immediately
told
me
to
remove
everything
under
my
hijab
despite
there
being
no
metal
which
I
expressed
to
the
lady
outside,
who
said
it
was
okay.
She
rudely
replied
“no,
just
take
it
off”.
I
was
happy
to
do
so
regardless.
I
then
asked
her
as
we
were
in
open
rooms
connecting
to
other
rooms
with
large
windows,
“Are
there
any
males
in
the
next
room
just
so
I
can
comfortably
remove
my
hair
ties
under
the
hijab
without
revealing
my
hair”,
she
responded
sarcastically
‘
do
you
see
any
males’,
I
dismissed
this
and
further
proceeded
to
explain
“I’m
just
asking
to
make
sure
so
I
can
do
what
you’ve
asked
me
to,
I
don’t
mind
if
they’re
present
during
the
MRI
,
it’s
just
that
I’m
unable
to
reveal
my
hair
Infront
of
males,”,
she
then
further
responded
“
even
if
there
were
males,
so
what,
I
cant
do
anything
about
that’’.
It
took
me
a
while
to
process
her
rude
and
abrupt
responses.
I
confronted
her
about
her
attitude
as
it
was
completely
inappropriate
and
unnecessary
to
talk
to
me
like
that,
let
alone
anyone
in
that
manner.
She
became
very
defensive
and
refused
to
acknowledge
her
behavior
or
take
any
accountability.
She
did
not
listen
to
my
concerns
and
said
that
I
was
over
reacting
as
she
raised
her
voice.
At
that
stage
I
was
very
uncomfortable
and
felt
unsafe
with
her,
so
I
requested
for
another
person
to
do
the
MRI
or
someone
else
I
can
speak
to.
Unfortunately,
she
said
no
one
else
can
help
me
and
that
she
is
the
supervisor.
I
was
in
shock.
As
a
person
in
a
management
position,
her
responsibility
is
to
resolve
conflict
and
act
in
an
acceptable
manner.
I
kept
trying
to
reason
with
her
to
avid
further
dispute,
however,
she
started
yelling
further
and
pointed
her
finger
directly
at
me
and
becoming
extremely
aggressive
with
her
body
language.
I
could
no
longer
deal
with
that
type
of
harassment,
so
I
asked
help
from
her
colleague
who
just
walked
in.
Not
surprisingly,
I
was
faced
with
the
same
cold
treatment
and
was
asked
to
leave.
They
were
not
willing
to
resolve
the
matter
at
all.
So
I
left.
It
was
evident
that
she
had
a
personal
issue
with
me
the
moment
I
walked
through
those
doors.
She
was
an
older
woman
who
acted
with
so
much
hate
and
ridicule
against
a
young
female.
I’m
100%
positive
she
has
acted
this
way
with
other
women
who
may
not
have
been
able
to
stand
up
for
themselves
and
had
to
tolerate
this
type
of
disrespectful
and
condescending
behavior.
To
I-Med
Radiology
Epping,
please
ensure
your
employed
staff
act
with
basic
human
empathy,
respect
and
professionalism
as
this
is
unacceptable
and
reflects
poorly
on
the
type
of
health
care
you
are
offering
to
the
public.
Plus,
considering
the
demographic
of
north
Melbourne,
wiser
choices
on
staff
should
be
implemented.
Thank
you
for
not
following
up
with
my
complaint.
Ps.
I
have
further
be
reported
this
incident
to
AHPRA
and
ASMIRT
